DI Matt Piper #4

A Devoted Sister: A DI Matt Piper Mystery

Rate this book
Libby Wright is facing two court cases, both involving her older sister ‘Mad’ Maddie Richmond. The discovery that their Victorian ancestress, Decima Watkins, who was hanged for murder, was not only innocent, but was also secretly married to the son and heir of the local Stately Home. The birth of a legitimate son to Decima all those years ago has prompted a modern legal battle between Maddie, who sees herself as the true and dispossessed owner of Havering Hall, and the rich and powerful Allingham clan. However, Maddie is also facing the prospect of being jailed for ‘knee-capping’ Brendan Tulliver, an obsessed stalker who was trying to kill her sister. DI Matt Piper had hoped that his association with the sisters had come to an end. He has problems of his own, trying to catch the slippery Maureen Sefton, who he knows is dealing drugs but who has carefully disguised her true business by running a charity which has the police hierarchy idolizing her. While attempting to mediate between Maddie and the Allinghams, placate Libby who is convinced Brendan is still stalking her and keeping his own rocky relationship with the troubled writer Tess Brookes on track, DI Piper has his hands full.

Matt Piper Mysteries

I enjoyed this series as much as all the others I've read by Suzanne Downes. I find her stories to be most exciting. I look forward to each book coming up and what twist/turns will put me on the edge of my seat. I will always be looking forward to any new stories that she puts out. Remarkable reads every time. Thanks

Good story although I skipped through parts of it

I am liking this series. I do find that I get impatient for the story to move along. Sometimes I find some character reactions a little hard to be!I've.

The cliffhangers really annoy me. And the ineptness (stupidity?) vs aggression of the leading lady... 🙄 My reading stops here.

If you are ok with just the "twists" then you'll probably like this. No depth to the persons.
