THE UNDEAD NAZI ARMY CONTINUES ITS MARCH ACROSS EUROPE IN THE THRILLING SEQUEL TO SCREAMING EAGLES!

The German stranglehold on the town of Bastogne has been released, only for the living dead to rise up and take their place. A ragtag group of men fight their way out of the chaos and make a frantic escape from the rubble and ruin. One of them, British soldier Lieutenant Robert Wilkins, uncovers crucial information about the source of the zombie scourge. Along with a crack team, Wilkins is dispatched to where the outbreak began - the ominously silent concentration camp at Polonezköy, Poland - to try and find a way to halt the undead advance.

The fate of the entire world rests on the shoulders of just a handful of men.

David Moody

David Moody first released Hater in 2006, and without an agent, succeeded in selling the film rights for the novel to Mark Johnson (producer, Breaking Bad) and Guillermo Del Toro (director, The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth). Moody's seminal zombie novel Autumn was made into a movie starring Dexter Fletcher and David Carradine. He has an unhealthy fascination with the end of the world and likes to write books about ordinary folks going through absolute hell. With the publication of continuing Hater and Autumn stories, Moody has cemented his reputation as a writer of suspense-laced SF/horror, and "farther out" genre books of all description.

This is a new-to-me concept, three authors working together on the same project where there is a clear, defined, concise point where one author hands the baton off to the next. David Moody has grasped the baton handed to him by Timothy W. Long and he is off and running with Red Devils.

The transition from Long’s to Moody’s portion was well-executed; I was brought back into the lives of the characters I knew and was familiar with before being introduced to the new character who is the focal point of Red Devils. This was crucial in order to maintain the continuity transitioning to a new story in this world, otherwise, it could have felt like a completely new story.

I’ve read a few books by Moody, nine to be precise. I like the protagonists that he crafts. Robert Wilkins is no exception, I felt the connection to him. Wilkins is not your archetypical British 007 hero, he may not even be the best man for the job. He is just the guy who can get the job done. Wilkins is in over his head, but he has a job to do and he’s damn well going to do it.

If you read my review of Screaming Eagles, you know that I had some issues with the TLC aspect of the book; rest assured, there are no such problems with Red Devils. Moody has taken the time to make it right.

Red Devils has given me the taste for more. I’ll be on the lookout for Craig DiLouie’s leg in this relay.

Nice alternative history tale

Great writing and engaging characters in the second book of the series. Setting this story within the historical, battle of the bulge gives it a strong plot arc. Really good use of historical locations, and life in the 40's, made me feel like I was a WW II soldier watching it all unfold. Can't wait for the third book.

This second book in the series starts in the town of Bastogne where there's a group of soldiers trapped and facing hundreds of the undead. One is a German with information about the serum that started this apocalypse and a possible way to stop it. Swedish Dr. Egil Mansson knew what the ramifications of this dreadful virus would be, so he started to develop an inhibitor to stop the scourge spreading across Europe.
Wilkins gets the information to Pocklington Hall in the UK and is volunteered to head a mission to rescue the doctor from the Polonezkoy concentration camp. The mission is a combined venture with Americans from the 84th Airborne and the Brits. The Brits go into the camp while the Americans go to hold the Leginow airfield so they can make their escape.
Of course with hundreds upon hundreds of the undead involved, they are in for the battle of their lives with no option to fail this mission.
This is definitely a book and series for anyone who loves the zombie/military genre. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Book one was decent, book two is better. A creepy and satisfying read. Hoping that the characters from the first two books team up for the third instalment.
