Celestial Mates #3

Imperial Bride

Rate this book
Hating her isolated, sheltered life in the Japanese Imperial Family Maiko longs for action and adventure among the stars. When her opportunity come, she grabs it with both hands and risks everything to protect her new home world when a temporal anomaly threatens to swallow everything in its path.

Little does she know her father has made an exception to the longstanding rule that no Imperials leave Earth, only because he plans to have her fitted with new husband from the Krylon Imperial House. There are two brothers. She has her heart set on the scarred one with curious eyes. Unfortunately, arrangements were made for her to be courted by the one with a smirking face, snarky attitude, and reputation for running around the galaxy chasing women.

No thank you dies on her lips about the time he hits her with their very first kiss. A handsome clone from a nearby world seems mesmerized by her intelligence and charm. He would be a much better fit, since he’s not been caught cavorting in the harems but something is missing when they are together.

It all may become a moot issue unless they can figure out how to stop the darkness from swallowing their world.

I received and ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you CJ Scarlett!

There are a few reasons why this book simply didn't work for me.

First of all, it took me a very long time to finally begin liking Maiko. I still can't put my finger on it, but I think it's because she was letting her emotions cloud her judgement on multiple occasions, whereas I am more of a logical person. In addition, I wasn't a huge fan of either Rose of Jen and they were both present in this novel to counsel Maiko... At least Selene popped in for a bit! Okay back to the issues.

Second, I also didn't grow fond of Ora. I found him immature, and inconsiderate for the first half of the novel. For an imperial prince, I would have thought he'd have a greater sense of tact and responsibility. He simply didn't think things through, and well, when the two main characters don't... You get my gist.

Lastly, the last third of the novel finally got interesting, but was a little confusing, especially with the narration and all the extra characters coming into the plot. Wowy that took concentration and re-reading.

Now, what this novel did succeed in doing was peeking my curiosity and properly setting up the following novel. It almost seems as though this novel was the introduction to the next novel, which may also be a reason why I wasn't fond of it. Regardless of my character opinions, I do believe the next book to be enticing and riveting, if the last chapter of this one is any indication.

A twist A turn An Adventure unfolds

I enjoyed the story and though the idea of an impending doom that Maiko had to help fight was great. I do wish it was executed better though. What the blackness is, is never really explained and how its eventually defeated isn't really explained or described clearly. That being the main reason I give this book 4 stars instead of 5.

I enjoyed the progression of Maiko's and the Prince's relationship. It didn't move to quickly or without hesitation or question like I found the relationships in the first two books doing. I did find the sex scenes to be numerous and detailed in this book compared to the others and the sexual progression of their relationship was a bit fast but then again that was to be expected due to the type of book this is.

I found this story to be a quick and easy read and though it was only 36% of the book it was enjoyable. That being said, I still do not understand why the authors keeps insisting on including the same two stories at the end of every book. It's unneccesary as the reader is not going to have book 3 of this series without having read the first 2 and to keep getting copies of the same additional stories is pointless and maybe its just me but annoying as well.

I did receive this as an ARC and wanted to share my opinions with others.

This book is #3 in the series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, it will certainly increase your enjoyment of the story if you have read the previous books because there are recurring characters and some world-building elements that are described in more detail in the earlier books. Still enjoyable as a stand alone, though...you might just feel a little left out if you start here.

The plot was fast paced and the characters were interesting. There was a bit of a jump in the plot when the Reverend Mother and Keiko were introduced. I admit I swiped back a few pages to see if I missed something. But the story came back together soon and made sense once I connected all the dots. Other than wishing the transition at that chapter had been handled a bit differently, the plot was smooth.

One of my favorite things was that this is not a book about insta-love. While I enjoy many of those stories as well, it was a nice change to have our H and h grow to care about each other in a more realistic fashion (and yes, I realize I'm talking about realism in a book about intergalactic marriages and alternate dimensions). But Ms. Scarlett showed real character growth in both Ora and Maiko, which lead to a much more emotional connection when they finally did find each other.

Overall, a fun, quick read with enjoyable characters and a bit of a cliff-hanger ending, even though Ora and Maiko are definitely together at the end. More of a sci-fi plot than most alien romances (where the only real difference is the alien is a difference color or something), since here we have actual sci-fi elements making up large plot points.

I would recommend starting the series at the beginning but it isn't strictly necessary.

The aventure continues. I loved all the books in the series.

I choose 5 stars because I did love this book, as I did all the books in the series. The different aliens, the coming together of different species to join an alliance. I love the respect they show the human women and how they treat them no matter their backgrounds. This book got a bit confusing toward the end where I had to reread a chapter to understand what was going on, but it was worth it. The only thing i disliked was another complete cliff hanger. I did not mind the first one because I was able to get the next book. But now I am left hanging with an impending tragedy, a couple important births, and more aliens I want to see get a mate Hurry up and get more books for this series.....

This is an incredible continuation to the series, I love how this book threw a wonderful selection of twists and turns into the storyline, you have not one but three budding romances and a whole compliment of disasters and complications to keep you turning the pages and trying to guess what happens next. This is a great series and I cant wait to see what happens next.
If you enjoy fun characters, Hunks of Alien men, love, action and adventure then this book is most definitely for you.

Good direction

This story is heading in a great direction. Maiko has no idea what is going on she is naive and very innocent. Her attitude during this whole thing made her seem far wiser than what is her description. I'm glad at times she put Orcha in his place. The playboy who feel for the unnoticeable girl was a good story with aliens and a royal couple. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

Hot and heroic

Another and uniquely different story of the Celestial Mates series! Pay attention because this book is loaded with characters and action that will literally blow your mind. Lots of sass and who rules who! Chemistry and intimacy that is evocative and entertaining! I was gifted with this copy and my review is my honest opinion!

I loved this book. At first you think she will never fall in love but she takes on a big task. She rethinks everything and gives him a chance. They go through a lot together. I can't wait for more of these books.

A shelters Japanese princess is sent to be a mate to a alien prince. To bad the nice one is taken and the spoiled, entitled, womanizing loudmouth is her in tended. They fight like cats and dogs till the first kiss. Butt he still needs some humbling. Some sort of entity threatens their galaxy and they struggle across time and parallel universes to save themselves, discovering each other along the way. It is not a stand a lone novel . It does come with two other works that are excellent reads. This serial is action filled and humorous along with the living romance of the main characters.

You're SO missing out if you're not reading this series!!
Absolutely loved this book! It seems as if the further into the series the author goes, the more comfortable she gets and the longer and better the books get! As a reader, you've got to love that. The character development has always been good but in this one, she definitely hits it into orbit. It was nice to run into characters we've met before and to even get a happy for two seconds for another character. Lol, I definitely think we know who the next book will be about and I can't freaking wait!!!!

Fun

There are so many side characters that I wish we were able to see more of their stories. Some times the story seemed to jump ahead. It is a fun read filled with humor.

I received an ARC of this ebook and chose to voluntarily submit my review as a result. I found this book an interesting sci-fi read with quite a few erotic encounters mixed in for good measure. Ideal for readers that prefer their sci-fi adventures a bit on the heated side.

Interstellar Bride is the third installment of C. J. Scarlett's Celestial Mates series. This time around, it's Japan's Imperial Princess Maiko's turn to find love - and a way off Earth. She's promised to the head of the Krylon Imperial family. But Crown Prince Oracha insults, offends, and embarrasses Maiko, and she's not one to forgive. Working out their personal relationship, mixed with Imperial and intergalactic politics, and a military threat which morphs into an extinction-level event on a galactic scale, is an exceptional challenge for both rogue prince and renegade princess. Unfortunately, keeping track of the complexities of this far-flung plot turned out to be an exceptional challenge for me as a reader. I love the author's rich imagination, I think highly of her character development - even the minor characters are distinct and memorable - but this story tries too hard to cram too much into one book.

This book can be read as a standalone, would recommend to read the first 2 books. They have some characters from the first two, so you can fully understand the background. The characters are so different in views and personally it not too far out the reach that they would first hate each other. The suspense will keep you on the edge with all their banter between them. When things really start to heat up and come to a point they will need each other they will surprise you. Recommend this book

Great Book

The book had plenty of action, mystery, adventure of the unknown, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. Their is plenty of steamy romance that doesn't take over with awesome characters and characters from the previous books? Highly recommended series and keep them coming.

time and space

Maiko is tired of her isolation and is thrilled that she is visiting her friends little did she know she was not only there visiting but also to get married but her future husband is the last person she would have wanted to be married to. But things beyond their control brings them together in more ways than one, they realized that they are destined to be together not only in this timeline but in all of them

It was great really great, opening to more adventures and it was indeed a great adventures and how love, fate, type seem to be attracted in any dimension. Yes, I am being cryptic just as the book because by the really end, I was absolutely lost but I was like who care
Anyway, in this book, and moreover, I loved the characters, their stories, their combine/fuse stories. I didn't expect to like both characters like that, and how surprising they were.
