The Baytown Boys Mysteries

Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.

Grant Wilder, one of the original Baytown Boys, came back from the war a changed man, walking away from his hometown and the girl he left behind.

Jillian Evans worked for years to hide her broken heart, especially when Grant moved back home to become one of Baytown’s police officers. He wanted friendship only and that’s what she’d give him. Focusing on her own career, she expanded her coffee shop into a local art galleria.

Grant and the Baytown police fight against drugs running through the small, coastal town, but when Jillian is threatened, Grant has to fight his wartime demons to save her…and finally declare his love.

****Due to scenes of an explicit sexual nature and language that some consider crude, please be warned - for 18+ only! If you do not like alphas with heart who fall instantly in love with strong female characters while dealing with real life issues...again be warned!!*****

As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.

My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.

My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with.
I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.

I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.
When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

I love to hear from readers, so please email me!

HATED IT!

Grant was a total douche bag to Jillian and she was a complete doormat. H went into military and asked her to wait. She did. He came back and blew her off, and fucked everything he could for SIX years! Then gets mad because she goes on a date! And of course leaves with a blonde bimbo after seeing her with the date. Then is all over her trying to get her back.

I like this author, but this was a total rage inducing book!

I could’ve sworn I got this from a OW drama list, but I’m doubting it because I’m halfway through and despite him supposedly getting around (which is also fuzzy on the details) there’s not one catty biatch in this small ass town giving the h shit. 🤷‍♀️

The blurb sets it up, Grant and Jillian dated in HS, and he asked her to wait for him while he joined the military. Four years later he returned with baggage and told her he wasn’t the same man and could only offer her friendship then moved away. One year ago, he moved back to their little town and has pretty much ignored her since while dating OW. The book opens with Grant hungover and reflecting on what an ass he was to Jillian the previous night when he saw her out on a date.

I had three major issues…

❌ There are WAY too many secondary characters and subplots. I mentioned this in my last review, but IMO this had so much extra secondary character filler that it stalled the plot and took away from developing the romance…making me SUPER bored. There’re several friends, art gallery stuff, 2 random kids picked up for truancy, their club, drug busts, PTSD, etc. – but what there isn’t - is yelling, crying, discussions of the hurt he caused, or relationship development.

❌ The writing/plot felt superficial glossing over instead of digging deep which killed my feels. For example, the h mentions a couple of times how hurtful is has been seeing him out with other ladies. We’re even told the night before the book starts that he grabbed a blond teacher after chewing the h’s ass. BUT, we’re given ZERO details or confirmation AND we’re not shown her heartbreak, so it feels flat and ambiguous.

He’s flirted with just about everyone and while I have no idea how many he has actually slept with, he’s certainly earned a reputation!”

“Maybe he didn’t—” “Doesn’t really matter if he took her home and banged her silly or not, does it?”

Um yes, to me it matters a lot. For starters, I’d be less open to hearing him out about giving him “one more chance” if he just banged a teacher. Plus, this doesn’t scream heartbreak to me. There’s no emotion in her outburst.

❌ The separation was too long especially for the h to be sitting on ice waiting around for him. If I understood it correctly… She waited for four years when he was in the military, I think it said she was a year younger so 17-21ish. Then he returned, rejected her, and moved away for TEN years, so 21-31ish. Now he’s been back in their hometown for a year, so 32ish. We’re supposed to believe this chick has sat around for 15 YEARS waiting on a dude that she had a HS romance with… granted they grew up together, but still, that’s excessive IMHO.

Bottom Line- This had potential had they hashed out their problems… like discussing the OW details. It wouldn’t have hurt if one or two were lurking about causing problems and put the focus on the couple working through their crap than a ton of insignificant filler. I'm also so OVER these h's that don't date or move on with their lives for YEARS... it's silly and illogical. I was so bored I started skimming and eventually gave up when nothing new happened.

Why did Jillian put up with Grant's bullshit?

I just want to know.

Why would anyone put up with his shit?

description

I understand he's got pain and PTSD to deal with. However, getting mad at Jillian for liking someone, getting mad at Jillian for having a date, and getting mad at Jillian for all the other stupid things was stupid on Grant! I liked Grant, especially in the first book, but he needed to put a dollar in that douche jar!

Additionally, I wasn't happy with the ending. It was very anticlimactic in comparison to so many other books she's written.

Super disappointed.

( Um... maybe not so... ) great second book in the series. Wasn't too sure about Grant at first... but I warmed up to him ( or at least I had in 2019, not so much in 2020 or 2021!! ). Really liked Jillian ( but I think she was just toooooooo easily swayed.... ). Good romance with lots of suspense.

Sighs... just re-read this... although I get that Grant had issues I cannot get over the way he treated Jillian. He threw his man-whoring in her face and yet the first time he sees her with another man he throws a shit-fit. Double fraking standards piss me off... big time. So... 3 down to 2.

He is a piece of shit
She is a looser
I don’t believe in this kind of love
You need to move on and find your happiness

Years and years wasted waiting in celibacy for a man who parade women in front of you and all your small town to see, and of course, when she wants to move on, H is tired of easy sex and wants her,
Her friends encouraging her to accept him again after telling her H left with a woman last night… well, that’s disgusting, beautiful friendship

Spoilers: There’s no grovel
She takes it all and oh! Poor man he has a trauma…

I loved Just One More Chance, the second book in the Baytown Boys series by Maryann Jordan. It can be read as a standalone, but the first book was so good that it shouldn't be skipped.

Grant was one of the "Baytown Boys" who had joined the military longing to escape from his hometown. He returned from his tour a changed man and had stayed away from Baytown but was now finding that the small town called to something in him.

“Life can be rough…just like the waves beating on the glass. But it is from the rough treatment that our edges can be polished out and we can become as smooth and shiny as what you see here.”

Jillian has always loved Grant, but since he returned from the military he has pushed her back into the Friend-zone. She is starting to realize that she needs to just move on and find her own happiness. Jillian considers starting to date and also begins to work on her dream of opening an art galleria in the empty space above her coffee shop.

"...you’re going to have to ask yourself which is better—guarding your heart or taking the risk and possibly finding the one you’ve always needed."

I so enjoyed returning to Baytown. This story had elements of suspense and some surprising twists along with the emotional romance. It also dealt with some difficult and real issues that many of our servicemen and women face when returning from war.

“Maybe we just needed to travel different paths for a while to end up on the same one again,”

Not my kind of hero

I liked Grant's personality as it was written, but the background premise of this story is a guy who says "I'm a mess, and I love you too much to hurt you by being with you, so I'm going to hurt you over and over by rejecting you with no explanation, and by being with other women in front of you". This is not love and this guy is not a hero. I understand he had PTSD, but don't tell me that "I hurt you because I didn't want to hurt you." The present day story was fine, but the backstory? Not so much. And the "one more chance" phrase is overused in the narrative.

This is book 2 of the Baytown series, it is best, though not essential, to read book 1 first as the series is about a group of friends who each have or will have their own book but also feature strongly in each book.
This is Grant and Gillian's story.
From Book 1 we gleaned that Grant and Gillian had some history before the boys went off to serve in the military and when he returned, although she waited for him expecting the relationship to develop, as did most of their friends and family, he moved away taking a job elsewhere and then when he did return he 'dated' almost every woman known in the area except Gillian.
I have to say at the outset I don't like man-whore books at all, but although it is said that for Grant there was a parade of women, it is not mentioned in any detail or going on at present so it is more palatable. There is obviously a reason he behaves the way he does and this is explored as well as the issue of big men facing up to post war life. For me, although what he goes through is traumatic, he needed to be more of a man and prove that by having an adult conversation with her not by sleeping with everyone and shutting her out but admitting the problem is part of the issue.

It starts with Grant recovering from a hang over after attending Mitch and Tori's engagement party where Gillian had finally decided to stop pining for Grant and move on so she attended the party with another man. Grant did not take this well AT ALL. He has a go at her and then marches off picking up a girl and leaves with her. There is no detail as to what happened between them.
He then reconsiders and a few things take place and he decides to win her back.

Gillian is confused by his actions and personally I wanted her to make him work for it a bit more, she seems to give in quite quickly, and is could appear that he is only behaving this way now someone else is interested in her. He does apologize but I would have made him work for it.
There is also a case going on involving drugs and you just know this is going to affect Gillian somehow though the plot is not as simple as you first may think.
It's a good story, sweet, not too much angst, quite quick to get together but as there is history this is quite believable. There are some extra hints at the other friends lives that may lead to their stories and we catch up with Mitch and Tori.

I don't like second chance books where the H is a manho and the h is the sweet innocent celibate girl. I know why Grant did what he did and the author did a good job of explaining but it's me not you...lol.

The only reason I read it at all is because I like the authors writing. I have read several of her books again but I won't re-read this one.

* I volunteer to read this book for my honest opinion.*
Another great story
Maryann Jordan's book always has you on the edge of your seat, Although this book had some suspense it dealt with much more and for that I loved it. Grant and Gillian were always supposed to end up together but Grant leaving off to war it changed him. With what he saw overseas, had scarred his brain and refused to let Gillian suffer with him. Gillian held on to hope, hoping he will wake up and take a chance on her. Not making a move to change his ways she sets herself to move on and finding love. When a coworker mentions getting help for his nightmare he is on the fence about it but hopes this will help him. Getting help was the hardest thing he did but was the greatest because he faced his fear and went all in with Gillian proving himself that he is worthy of her love. Being together might seem easy since they knew each other but they still had mountains to cross to reach their happy ending. All while giving love a second chance, gillians coffee shop is turned into a galleria upstairs where she shows some beautiful pieces and challenges herself to make it. While Grant is working on himself he is focusing on catching the crew who is trying to pass drugs through his town. This is where things get intense and you just know who it is and it's a mystery until the end. Great story of second chances and courage to get help when needed. I can't wait for the rest of the Baytown boys.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, sadness, pain, suspense, and heartbreak.

Before reading this story please read the below books first
Coming Home (Baytown Boys #1)

This is Jillian and Grant’s story. Years ago, when Grant left for the Military he asked Jillian to wait for him. But when he came home he was not the same man so he broke her heart. Now they are just friends. She gives him chance after chance to be with her but it seems he does not want her until she decides to move on. Grant knows if he does not get the help he needs he is going to lose Jillian. But if he does not hurry and get that help he just might lose her anyway. These two have a lot to overcome. He has caused her pain for years by flaunting around his woman. Now he needs to prove that all he ever really wanted was Jillian. What happens when she is in danger? Can he protect her? Will they finally get their chance to be together? Will that chance be taken away again by the danger she is in? Or by the past hurts she is still getting over?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

4.5 star review of Just One More Chance (Baytown Boys #2) by Maryann Jordan
This is Grant Wilder and Jillian Evans and is a second chance at love story.

They loved each other when they were young and Grant asked Jillian to wait for him to return from his tour of duty. Jillian waited but when Grant finally returned he was a man changed by the horrors of what he saw in the war and avoiding his hometown and Jillian.

Grant has finally returned to Baytown to join the police department, however all he wants from heart broken Jillian is to be friends.

What will happen when Jillian is targeted and danger lurks around the corner? Will Grant be able to protect her and finally realize what he gave up? Will Jillian be able to forgive the pain and hurt he caused her? One click now and find out.

This was a gripping and well written book and I loved the camaraderie and friendships between the men and their women as they all banded together to help one another.

I "discovered" in 2017 Ms Jordan’s books, and have fallen in love with her writing. My only regrets are that it took me so long to find her and that I missed book one of this series.
Though I had read this story at that time, recently I listened to the audiobook and the story was brought to life.
It centers around Grant, ex-military man who is currently working in the Baytown police department and Jillian, owner of a coffee shop and new gallery. These two have a history. One in which Grant has hurt Jillian deeply, not because he doesn’t love her, but because he loves her so much, he feels he is not good enough for her. Will she forgive him and give him “just one more chance” ?It’s a book filled with a great plot , intrigue, good secondary characters and ex-military men who were all friends in their youth.
What I liked best in this book, is Ms Jordan’s treatment of our returning troops. Their experiences in war will affect them forever and we as a nation, and individuals , need to support them, offer services to help them integrate back to civilian life, and we must not forget their families and loved ones as well..
I was gifted this copy . The opinions expressed are solely my own.

‘Military duty called them away to war zones, but after tours overseas, the group of friends found their way back home as men, seeking the peaceful little seaside town. Now, the band of brothers, together once more, work to provide a place for less fortunate veterans to call home.’

Just One More Chance is the second instalment in the Baytown Boys series by Maryann Jordan. Having seen these books pop up on social media and reading my GR friend’s reviews of the series I started collecting the books quite some time ago, but has taken me till now to finally plunge in.
Maryann Jordan’s Baytown Boys series is a 17-book romantic suspense saga that masterfully weaves together themes of camaraderie, love, healing, and personal redemption. Set in the fictional coastal town of Baytown, an idyllic seaside town, this series follows a close-knit group of former military friends who return home from service overseas and strive to create a supportive environment for themselves and less fortunate veterans. Ms. Jordan’s storytelling fuses small-town charm with emotional depth, making the setting a vivid and integral component of her storyline/s.
Each book centers around a different MC, exploring their unique struggles and romantic journeys. The veterans’ experiences and wartime scars are written with sensitivity and authenticity, adding an extra element of emotional resonance to the relationships and characters personal growth.
Ms. Jordan cleverly balances romance with mystery and suspense. From murder investigations to drug rings, each plot includes high-stakes elements that kept me engaged, all while the romantic tension sizzled. But, beyond the romance/s, intrigue, and action - the stories also show the healing power of friendship, love, and a supportive community - which created a warm and reassuring backdrop for the more intense elements.
This series is ideal for readers of contemporary romantic suspense with a military element and small-town setting.
Happy Reading…

Grant Wilder is one of the original Baytown Boys, who joined the military right out of High School. However, after serving in Afghanistan, he came home with serious demons, to the point that he broke up with his High School sweetheart, Jillian Evans, who he had asked to wait for him. He made the decision for both of them that she was better off without him, and put her firmly in the friend zone, even going as far as flaunting his hookups in her face. Jillian did everything she could to give Grant chance after chance, as she never stopped loving him, but she finally hit her limit, and started moving on. Grant doesn't like it one bit, seeing her with other men, but will he finally step up to be the man that she loves? Just One More Chance is another great story in the Baytown Boys series, as I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough. I loved Grant, but at the same time, wanted to junk punch him more than once for the things he did to Jillian, because I had her back completely. When he finally got his head out of his behind, it led to some serious sexy time that lit the sheets up. And of course, there was the entertaining cast of secondaries that added humor, & more depth to the story. I love Maryann Jordan's talented writing style, as she pens stories that are heartwarming, with a big side of angst that bring out all of the feels. Not to mention, she has flair for a great underlying suspense factor to her stories, so her twists have my f-bombs flying! I CANNOT WAIT for more of this awesome series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

After leaving the service, Grant had avoided coming home but the call of the closeness of friends and family won out. Now on the police force in Baytown, he has to face Jillian.

Jillian promised to wait for him and she did. Even when he determined to put her in the 'friend zone' she was still waiting. Now after seeing him with so many hook-ups she's decided to try moving forward.

That didn't seem to go over very well with Grant, he apparently doesn't get that what's good for the gander is good for the goose.

Now Jillian has some new plans for the Gallery above the Coffee Shop and as Artists contribute their work there are other forces working against the small town.

Drug runners are shortcutting through their peaceful little town and the Police department is following up one lead after another. So many trails, leading only part of the way to where they want them.

As busy as he is Grant and the others returned from the service make time for their new VFW Post through which the group is making many more connections including counselling for PTSD.

Now Grant realizes that if he is going to have anything build with Jillian he's going to have to face his demons, demons that come to the surface every time he looks at her. The chance he wants isn't going to come easily, she isn't sure she has another one to give.
Full of suspense, action, misunderstanding, interesting drama, smoldering scenes, laughter and scenes that brought tears to my eyes.

I fall more and more in love with this series with every book I read.

Maryann Jordon – Just One More Chance - (Bay Town Boys Mysteries – Book 2)

You can read this book as a stand-alone or as a continuation of the wonderful series. Ms. Jordon continues to provide her readers with convincing plots, mystery and a lot of steamy passion. What more could you ask for?

We met Grant and Jillian in book 1. The “gang” have watched as Jillian and Grant dance around each other every since Grant returned from the service and is now a Bay Town Police Officer.

Before Grant left Bay Town, he and Jillian were a couple. When he came back, all he wants is friendship. Now all Jillian can do is mend her broken heart and move forward. She doesn’t know what happened and thinks that perhaps Grant but he is a changed man, she guessed war could do that to people, but that didn’t help her to fight her feelings for the only man she has ever loved.

Jillian must Grant when he is with other women and she, on the other hand, can’t think about starting something with another man. But, she is determined to move on, starting right now.

When Jillian is threatened, Grant decides that he will protect her at any cost. He realizes that he doesn’t want to live in a world without Jillian in it. But, Jillian isn’t going to give Grant another chance to break her heart again.

I got this book as an ARC and feel so privileged to have been able to read it ahead of its release date.

Grant Wilder, one of the original Baytown Boys, is a cop and a veteran. His service memories are haunting him to the point he is keeping the woman he loves at arm's length. Jillian, Grant's long time love, has all but given up on him. He's had one too many chances and she needs to move on. Finally realizing he may have very well lost her, Grant finally takes steps to get the help he needs. Now, if he and the area law enforcement can figure out the drug problem infesting their communities, they will have a safer place to live. There are some tense moments and a few dead bodies complicating the situations though. The good news is....there is an HEA here, so enjoy reading this highly entertaining book.

So many of our service personnel are dealing with the horrors of war means not dealing with them instead stuffing them deep down inside which causes untold problems. Maryann Jordan's putting a spotlight on this epidemic and some of the measures the are being taken to help these men and women, no matter what the age, deal with them. I loved the tie-in with the American Legion and its Auxiliary.

The Fear of Love

Grant Wilder and Jillian Evans have been connected since childhood. Growing up in Baytown they were high school sweethearts. With dreams of forever he shipped out to the military, and came back a changed man. She, in the meantime, has started her own coffee shop and art gallery in Baytown. Grant has found his way back home and is a police officer, and a good one. But his attitude toward Jillian is quite hypocritical. He avoids Jillian, flaunts his one night stands at the same time he dissuades Jillian from dating other men. At first he is not a sympathetic character. But as we learn more about him and realize his military history has interrupted his true connection with Jillian. We better understand his predicament and how she's been dragged along into it. Their work with a new American Legion, the community and a wave of unwanted criminal activity provides a mystery that makes the story intriguing and moving. As Grant and Jillian rediscover their attraction the book becomes hot, sexy and still sincere. Well done, indeed.

When Grant decided to join the military, he planned to serve his time and return to his hometown and resume his relationship with Jillian. That plan derails when he is unable to overcome what he has overcome and decides the best thing he can do for her is set her free. It is only when she starts to move forward with her life that he realizes what he has lost and now finds himself trying to convince her to give him a second chance.

After years of waiting for Grant to finally realize they are meant to be together Jillian has begun to lose hope. When she starts spending time with another man it forces Grant to finally confront why he has distanced himself from her however as the chemistry starts to escalate between them so does the danger.

This is a story about love, healing and a second chance at love. Grant has made mistakes in the past which causes some turmoil but the feelings between them were never in doubt. I listened to an audio copy of the story and the narrator managed to convey both the suspense and emotional aspects of the story.

Another really good read from Maryann Jordan. This is the second book in this Baytown series. You don't need to read book 1, but it will help you to get familiar with some of the characters, although she does a good job introducing them again in this one. This is a close knit group of friends who have grown up together. The men went into the armed services and have now come home.

Grant and Jillian were high school sweethearts. Their future was always each other. When Grant was over seas though, he experienced a horrible loss and instead of going home to Jillian, he ran from her. When Jillian finally decides to move on, Grant realizes it is time to address his fears or lose the woman he has loved his whole life.

This is a great small town romance with an element of romantic suspense. It held my attention through the whole book and I loved the second chance at romance for Jillian and Grant. Another good read in this series.

I was glad to get to read Grant and Jillian's story and as usually in a Baytown Boys book, there is always some mystery and suspense that happens that kept me guessing (and I guessed wrong, lol). As is the "norm" with the Baytown Boys, they aren't too bright when it comes to knowing when and how to love the woman they were meant to be but that just makes the romance all the more real. Grant and Jillian were always meant to be together and I am glad she gave him the One More Chance to get past all the things that happened during his deployment that kept him from realizing that Jillian was his One More Chance at happiness. Great book and can be read out of order as I have done with this series which gives a different prospective to how the characters interact before they become a "couple" in a later book.

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.

Overall I liked this book but it could have been a bit shorter...the relationship between Grant and Gillian seemed to drag on.
Grant and Gillian grew up together and were dating before he joined the military. It took Grant a while to return to Baytown but he’s finally back and is in the police force. He came back a broken man and feels unworthy of Gillian...until she decides to move on...then he decides to accept the counseling recommended by his fellow American Legionnaires.
Gillian has loved Grant all of her life but she’s tired of him breaking her heart. He broke her heart when he joined the military but she still waited for him...but when he got out, he moved to VA Beach. Now he’s back home and it’s been a year...that’s two strikes and she’s moving on. Then Grant asks her forgiveness and for one more chance. Will they have that chance or will they become a casualty of the criminal element that’s invading Baytown?

As a Baytown Boy, Grant, has strong ties to his hometown and good childhood memories. Most of those memories involve Jillian, the only girl he has ever loved, but the girl he now keeps at arms length. Jillian doesn’t understand why Grant acts likes their past didn’t exist. She still loves him, but how many second chances can she give him.
This is another book that storyline involves PTDS. Grant is a former army soldier, now a local cop, that finally seeks out counseling to deal with his nightmares and fear of loving Jillian. He finds comfortable in the newly formed American Legions chapter. (I really respect the author’s dedication to our Vets.)
The second chance at romance doesn’t bring any surprises to the book, though there is intrigue and a twist involving the drug trafficking case Grant is working. While much of the book worked for me, there were too many sex scenes and I don’t like when a child is put in harm’s way.

I loved the narration of Kale Williams, he just brings everything to life in your ears.

Grant had asked Jillian to wait for him while he joined the military. Jillian is in love with Grant and for four years waits for him. He returns with baggage. Telling Jillian he is not the same man and could only wants friendship then moved away. A year later he moves back to their home town and is now a police officer. He starts sleeping with anything that moves and ignores Jillian. Until drunk night and Grant wakes with a hungover and reflecting on what an ass he was to Jillian the previous night when he saw her out on a date.
He begs her for one more chance . The police are now dealing with drug runners and danger is now at their doorstep.

This book has it all, angst, romance, steam, life of veterans and their families deal with.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Way We Once Were

Grant & Jillian grew up together and dated and had planned a future together in till Grant joined the Military and went to war. He came home a changed man and only wanted to be friends with Jillian. She kept giving Grant chance after chance in till she decided to move on. Grant decided to seek help with a Military Counsler and asked Jill for one final chance and within a couple of months Grant told Jill the story about what happened. I wish it was that easy spent 48 years with my demons and the last 9 years seeing a counselor. This was the only part of the story I did not like. This is the second book of yours I have read and just love this story. I am not very good at writing so I usually don't leave reviews but I just had to say something about your storytelling it's great and I am giving it 5 stars.

Just One More Chance

WOW! This is an intriguing story about second, third and fourth chances. Grant was keeping Jillian at arm's length since he returned from war. He couldn't deal with the thought of losing Jillian that he kept pushing her away. It finally dawned on Grant that Jillian was giving up on them. That's when he finally decided to seek help. Meanwhile, the drug problem was getting worse in their part of the country. When the FBI informed the guys about Jillian's involvement with the drugs, Grant about lost it. Jillian was unaware of her part until it was almost too late. Thankfully, everyone got to the place in time to save Jillian and the guys she was with. The only person who died was the drug runner. Once things finally calmed down, Grant and Jillian finally found their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Maryann! I would recommend this book.

I am really into this series. Mary Anne Jordan has a way with portraying her characters and they become bigger than life. Once again a home town hero over comes his demons of war and wins back the love of his life since they were kids. Jillian and Grant’s story and love is so profound, special and heart warming. Once again evil interferes in the health of the town. Together with the Baytown boys, the neighboring law enforcement, and the brotherhood of veterans and childhood friends come together to root out evil and make home a better place.
I was worried after Mitch and Tori’s story that I would be disappointed in this book #2. But, Maryanne did not disappoint. I am looking forward to book #3.
I was totally off about the drug runner. Bi was so sure who it was. Was I ever wrong. I never expected the culprit.

Jillian waited for years for Grant to come back to her after he returned from war. He has loved her since grade school. Only now, he no longer believes he is man enough for her. Deciding to move on, Jillian has decided she needs to make a few changes in her life forcing Grant to man-up and do whatever is necessary to claim her begging for just one more chance.
Being a police officer now, he discovers trouble brewing in their small town and somehow Jillian and an event happening at her newly opened art gallery are in the middle of it leaving Grant doing whatever is necessary to keep her safe.
Narrated by Kale Williams, this audiobook is highly recommended. Loved the respect the author gives our military veterans and the issues they may face once they return home. Like it or not, going off to war changes people.
