When Sluggo cruises online chat rooms, he isn’t looking for a hook-up; he’s looking for love. But love has a way of being elusive, especially when you’re not being honest. Presenting himself as “Sir Raven,” Sluggo promises his chat room cohorts he’s the “master of the night.”
And then he meets someone who challenges him -- someone who claims the title “master of the night” as his own. TepesAllure’s enigmatic and flirtatious messages to Sluggo start out as fun banter, but quickly turn to eerie disquiet.
As the night unfolds, so do the advances of TepesAllure ... and even when Sluggo tries to escape, he finds that getting out is not nearly as easy as getting in.
NOTE: This story appears in the author’s collection, Unhinged. Genres: Gay / Erotic Horror / Dark Fantasy / Vampire

With Halloween approaching I thought it might be time to read something that elicited a few chills. This short by veteran writer Rick R. Reed does that.
Sluggo is a past his prime balding banker, who can’t really recall the last time he got laid. He’s quickly developed an addiction to internet chat rooms where, in his persona as Sir Raven, a svelt and sexy cubano, he gets off and gets others off. But when he encounters TepesAllure he quickly becomes aware that he’s not the biggest catfish in the sea. Yet the guy seems to know way more about the “real life” Sluggo than he should…
There’s nothing terribly new in this (now more than 10 year old) tale of cat-fishing, and horror but it’s still a fast, fun and chilling read from an author with a gift for spinning engaging tales. This tale feels like it could easily have been introduced by a chain smoking Rod Serling, but maybe more Night Gallery than Twilight Zone. Download it ASAP, but perhaps sprinkle a little Holy water on that Kindle before reading this one on a “dark and stormy night.”
“Sluggo Snares a Vampire” by Rick R. Reed is my first read by this author. I’ve seen his books on Amazon and Goodreads and they looked interesting. This book was and still is free as a Kindle Version on Amazon and I thought this would be a good place to start to get to know this author's work. I‘m happy to say I was not disappointed. This a a very short read, approximately 22 pages. I found it witty, dark, suspenseful and cleverly written. There’s a lot of substance in this short story, LGBT horror/suspense. I am looking forward now to delving into other genres of his work.
Synopsis (from back cover): When Sluggo cruises online chat rooms, he isn't looking for a hook-up; he's looking for love. But love has a way of being elusive, especially when you're not being honest. Presenting himself as "Sir Raven," Sluggo promises his chat room cohorts he's the "master of the night."
And then he meets someone who challenges him -- someone who claims the title "master of the night" as his own. TepesAllure's enigmatic and flirtatious messages to Sluggo start out as fun banter, but quickly turn to eerie disquiet.
As the night unfolds, so do the advances of TepesAllure ... and even when Sluggo tries to escape, he finds that getting out is not nearly as easy as getting in.
This was a great, short read and exactly what I needed today. This author has a tendency to have the reader expecting one thing but getting something else entirely. You’ll think you know what’s about to happen, but you’ll be wrong. That’s one of the reasons I keep going back again and again to Rick R. Reed’s books. They are always entertaining and could never be called predictable.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for something quick, a bit creepy, and if you don’t mind stepping a bit outside the norm.
The title of the book says it all. Great, short horror story. I've enjoyed many of Mr. Reed's books, but this is the first scary tale. You might not want to be alone after reading it.
4½ stars - Rick Reed is a masterful storyteller whether he's writing horror, suspense, or romance or any combination thereof. I'm not going to say much about Sluggo Snares a Vampire 'cause I really don't want to ruin it for anyone. But if you're a fan of Rick Reed's and like a sizzling good short story then may I suggest you give this one a try?
Sorry, but this is the worst short story I have read in a long time. I read a ton of gay and lesbian erotic fiction, just because I don't believe in labels. This book was just plainly uninspired and cliche.
An interesting concept of a digital vampire and catfishing, though it was brief enough to not really explain much of anything and the ending was rather confusing. Had TepesAllure taken over Sir Raven's account and persona or had he been changed into a digital vampire himself? The story could benefit from additional content.
VERY short story (30 pages the PDF) VERY scary, but also full of humor VERY good, and I certainly recommend it!!!! I'm just taking one start because of the title... It ruin the suspense! Why tell the reader, before it, what the mysterious guy is?
So, anyway, I recommend it to horror readers, and people searching an unusual vampire story.
Well done... And creepy story deserve my creepy applause
This was really short, but well done. Sometimes in really short works the characters don't come across well because there's no time to build them up or develop a rapport with them. Rick's characters came across very well, even Sluggo's frustration and lack of self esteem were made clear.
