Several key NATO figures are assassinated...by animals? Russia comes under attack using animal technology based on Dr. David Loren's designs. Mirra Sway is made to suffer in response and to top it all off, a figure from David's past emerges. Still recovering from his recent suicide attempt, Loren is forced back into the military game to help uncover who is behind this. He must deal with WTF is going on with Estonia, while discovering just how much his technology has been perverted. David must decide how to take a stand against the humans behind the animals.
A modern Cold War tale with Russia trying to discredit the U.S. by assassinating various politicians throughout the world and leaving evidence behind pointing to the U.S. If you like your comics based on cutting edge science and spy thrillers, you'll dig this book.
Cold War-type conflict breaks out and David & Mirra save the day
A lot to this volume including a look at modern warfare methods used by the USA and Russia as an attempt to discredit the US by Russia is unveiled. David, recovering from his suicide attempt, is part of the solution and this volume delves more into his character and background.
The fifth and final of several volumes, this now-in-colour series is written intelligently and well-illustrated. It is engaging and I'[m pleased that the writer knows when a series should come to a satisfactory end. Recommended for lovers of intelligent story-lines.
This volume starts with dr Loren’s attempted suicide, then moves to animals controlled via an implant to kill pro-Russian European politicians and believe it or not it even has a happy ending.
Amazing, intelligent series. At the end of each volume you’ll find information on the making of. Which books, reports, research papers and YouTube videos the authors used and why. My to read-list just got longer.
Why does the final volume of every comic series seem like they were having a fire sale and slapped together the ending in a cram session?
There are like 10 straight pages of exposition about modern politics and the deteriorating nature of American ties with current day superpowers. Then, they drop 4 pages to wrap up 5 volumes of relationships and characterization with like 6 panels and a totally hack final word on happiness.
I would've been more comfortable had the ENTIRE volume focused on David coming to terms with his situation. Instead, they spent less time than any other previous volume so they could flatten the story with shallow military plotlines. I'm just confused about the direction they took to finish this.
The drama is still there with David's father Ronald being brought into the facility to meet his son. 'I'm not a twelve-year-old girl, Mr. Loren.' This quote finally resonated with my thoughts on David who even tries online dating after Mirra 'needs her space' or whatever. 'Amaze-balls' is apparently a word in his vocabulary. Delightful, isn't it? The story is filled with these things.
The global conflict between the superpowers is interesting, though. Everyone fears that it will escalate to World War 3 and even nuclear warfare. Russian troops are mobilized and occupy Estonia, a NATO member, in retaliation to what looks like the US targeting Russian supporters with mind-controled animals.
David begins in a hearing for his attempted suicide in the last volume. He tells everyone what they want to hear and returns to work, since he is one of DARPA's most valued assets. He must investigate an application of his thought-reader on animals and again feels responsible for inventing the device.
Mirra is tasked with freeing Sejic from a Russian group that kidnapped him, but he is really working with them because they are holding his mother captive. Mirra is captured, but soon escapes and intends to go all Rambo after Sejic by herself. Sandra turns out to be a Russian spy. It's becoming more clear why she was throwing herself at all those men with valuable info. And at David as well.
Mirra is helped by David who sends supplies via a hacked Russian drone. She foils an assassination attemp on the Turkish president's life, one of the most important US allies because of his country's geostrategic location. This ultimately ends the worldwide threat, somehow.
And thank God that Mirra and David get back together. I was always rooting for those two love birds, God bless 'em. I mean she actually refuses to be paid for being David's sex slave. That's love right there! Yes'um!
You know that moment where you read the last volume, before you read the second last volume, because you got confused and you thought the author was just doing some weird time-skip thing?
Is it weird this has happened more than once?
Still enjoyable, if a little confusing due to some character introductions.
