War is coming between humans and Arvies, leaving me trapped between two enemies. This time, I don’t think I’ll survive.
The government will stop at nothing to get me back in their clutches. They want what’s inside me—a power I call Venge—and will use my greatest weakness to bring me to my knees.
The Arvies know of my gift, and use my telepathy and their numbers, in an effort to take me out.
My name is Abigail Park, and I promise retribution against those who’ve wronged me, even if it’s the last thing I do.
I was born in San Francisco, raised in Maui, Hawaii, and now reside with my husband in Las Vegas. I am a dreamer and caffeine addict who loves to laugh and loves to read to escape reality.
One of my greatest satisfactions is creating fantasy worlds filled with adventure and romance. It is the love and incredible support of my family and fans that keeps me going. One day I hope to uncover my magic wardrobe and ride away on a unicorn. Until then . . . I'll keep writing!
The final Instalment in the After Light saga didn't disappoint. It was filled with tender moments, blood and gore and plenty of Arvy killing. There were a few moments that made me cry, both happy and sad tears. I won't spoil it for you. You'll have to take the adventure for yourself. It's worth much more than 5 stars.
All I can say is thank goodness this series is over and my OCD can pack up and leave! I still maintain the concept of The After Light Saga is brilliant, and I loved this story in theory, but the writing and execution was hella-poor. It had every bad YA trope I can think of. I still cringe when I remember how Protagonist Abi named her gun and her psychic ability. Hellfire and Venge. Ugh! It wasn’t even done ironically.
Abi loves to blurt out everything to complete strangers. She hasn't learnt to be cautious despite all of the crap she has found herself in since leaving the bunker. People are fighting to survive, so some caution should be common sense by now. Especially by book five. Not only does this reflect badly on her as a character, but is a form of info-dumping. I hope Cameo Renae grows as a writer because she has a great imagination and I’d love to read her stories if she can level-up.
How many times was Abi going to pass out? It felt like every two or three chapters ended with 'my world went black.' It felt like cheap storytelling. I was really gritting my teeth trying to get through this novel.
I’m still not convinced of the romantic paring of Abi and Finn. I can't relate to either of them. From the first novel until this finale, still every description of either revolve around how sexy they are. Nauseating. The overly lovey-dovey carry on didn't feel like it was properly established or grounded in connection between Abi and Finn. It was all about muscles and abs - a strong emotional connection that wasn't explored. This pairing could have been iconic if treated differently.
But having said that, some of the romance is cute – though other parts immature and sickly sweet, bordering on unrealistic. People that age don't wax poetic like Cameo has written. It felt more like wish fulfilment than grounded in the character and relatable to the demographic of this series.
Reference to 'normal' life' pre-bunker was made, but given that Abi has spent her life underground, she couldn't have possibly experienced everything mentioned. Big contextual error there.
The introduction of the dog was a pleasant surprise - it added some interest and lightness to the narrative. Though this, and the astral travelling thing, felt a bit forced and not in the same vein as the rest of the story.
It feels like everyone is dumb. The army grunts, the government. And it only amplified how immature I felt the writing was. Characters are so quick to offer forgiveness and detailed explanations (more info-dumping) - they feel two-dimensional and obviously guided by the hand of the author. Where's the complexity, the tension, diversity. It added to my frustration. This whole series reads like a child's imaginings.
However, ‘Retribution’ cutely wrapped the series up (even if it had a tone of convenience.)
I hate to say this, but this collection makes me want to gag. 'Retribution’ is a touch better than some of the previous sequels, but certainly not one I recommend. I’ll be donating the series, it’s not something I want to keep in my library.
Dang what a rush of emotions I've just endured thanks to the FINAL book in the After Light Saga. This series is thrilling and captivating, not just because of the crazed zombies at every turn, but because of the characters and the happiness they have amidst an apocalyptic world. So if you haven't read the first 4 books do so asap and then you'll love this ending.
Running from the government leaders while still trying to recover from her last usage of Venge, Abigail Park is the most sought after person in the world. Abi's enhanced power to destroy Arvies comes at the price of herself, leaving her on the verge of death. Lucky for Abi she has a handsome soulmate named Finn who will do anything he can to protect her. Abi and Finn find themselves constantly on the run as they still try to find their safe place. It's not until Abi is once again forced into a position where her family is threatened to make her unleash her power that Abi realizes Venge may be fueled by something greater than hate. The question is will she survive the toll it takes to use her gift to save those she holds dear?
Overall, great ending though really don't think I could get enough of Abigail Park! Seriously the girl can kill with her mind, shoot without missing and act like it's all nothing. Yeah I squeal at the sight of cockroaches. Finn is also my favorite hero because he's all about his girl and making sure she is well cared for, *sigh, I want a Finn. One of the most interesting parts of this novel for me was the different bunkers and survivor camps Abi and Finn visited. It helped show the world was healing and not as crappy or crazy as that horrid government bunker. Oh and the epilogue so cute love when authors give us that nice tidbit to leave us fans with happy feels. So if you've been an After Light Saga fan this book will take you on that last journey with Abi and I suggest keeping tissues nearby.
This series is one of the best I've read in a long time. The Earth is completely devastated. People are living underground. After 13 years they have decided to emerge from below. Little did they know, the people left behind were given a vaccine the government told them would protect them from the effects of radiation. It hadn't been tested. What it did was turn then into vicious, bloodthirsty monsters whose bite could transform you into a monster. One day Abigail connects here mind to one of the monsters and hears their pain and suffering and anger. The government hears about her and the story really begins.
I don't read stories about zombies. But these creatures are not dead, reanimated people. These creatures are living, breathing people who were left behind during the apocalypse.
I loved this whole story. The action and adventure is unbelievable. There is even romance. There is a little bit of something for everybody
I LOVED reading this series! Book 5, Retribution was the book I enjoyed the most in the After Light Saga. The book keeps the excitement going. I love how the author has built the protagonist, Abigail, into a mature, level headed, intelligent, compassionate woman. She is not a complainer and takes all the end of the world challenges and responsibilities she is faced with head on with drive and determination. The way the various bunkers are described and the living conditions gives you a very good feeling of what life could be like in such an unfathomable time. That aspect with the love and good humanity that still existed among a few made the book heartwarming. I loved all the characters especially the addition of Midas in this last book. If you are an animal lover, I hope you love Midas and enjoy his addition and part in the story as much as I did!
It is possible this has been my favourite book from this series. It was great having Abi and Finn together again. I truly believe they are stronger together even if they are each others weakness. Abi and Finn gain some new friends and family in this book.
It is nice to see there are still good people out there. People who are willing to look past her gift and see the girl inside, willing to help her when she is in need. I loved the ending even though I am sad to say goodbye to this series Cameo really did well finishing it off. One thing I would have loved to see is some parts from Finns POV. Really see inside this strong young man. For anyone considering starting these book I cannot recommend them highly. And what a great time to start with the last book out in the next day or 2.
As I read this saga of life after a collapse of society, it reminded me of so many others of this genre. Throwing in special powers reminded me of Sienna Nealon (from the mind of Robert J Crane) another teenager who discovers a world needing to be saved if only she can find the strength and will to do so. Both of these characters are worthy of your time. This was very clean with love, romance, without having the unnecessary bedroom scenes found in so many novels along with danger, suspense, good vs. Evil. This story would easily make a movie worth watching.
Going out with a bang! The last book in a series is always hard, and they are either absolutely perfect and amazing, or they are a huge disappointment leaving you wanting. Retribution is an absolute masterpiece of perfection!! It is everything we have loved about this series, and then vaulted to excellence, just like Abi Park. I can't say a word about what is behind this gorgeous cover, because that would be doing the reader a disservice. But this is full of kickass, love, laughter, friendship, and survival! A perfect ending to an amazing series! Never felt rushed or forced. The timing of every moment was perfect! Full of so many powerful and emotional moments! I found myself overwhelmed and struggling to read through my tears, and not necessarily in sadness, tho there was that... but caught up in the emotion of the moment! So awesome and exactly what a series finale should be. We definitely get a complete sense of closure. And damn, the epilogue is epic.
From the first time this author introduced me to this series, I fell in L O V E! The characters she brought to life had me from the beginning.
Now when she told me she was working on this book, I was beyond excited. My favorite heroine and her hot ass boyfriend were coming back to be after a extremely long wait (not that long, I over exaggerate when it comes to Cameo's series) then she told me this was the last, oh hell no that can't happen. I need my doses of Abi and Finn (and of course hellfire)
This book had it all, from some bad ass action to the heart felt moments that filled my heart.
But of course all awesome series must come to an end, and boy did this one end well!! It's everything I needed in a series finale. It gave me the closure I needed.
(Although, I'm sure I'll be in book hangover hell!!)
After waiting for what seems like forever for the last book to come out, this series was awesome. I'm so sad that it's over but glad to see it end so amazingly. If you like Zombies then you will love this series but don't think it's just your regular Zombie books, this has mega enhancement and a heroine that will take them out with nothing but her mind. I'm gonna miss Abigail and Finn...Thank You Cameo Renae for finishing this series with a bang.
I have to say that this is an amazing action packed suspenseful series that has you following the characters and the love stories all the way through I would recommend it to anyone the new take on a post apocalyptic world and the trials and tribulations that a young woman may have to deal with combined with fighting against a major power for freedom makes this series a page turner
This was a good ending to the series. I was happy that Finn and Abi finally got their HEA with their little addition. This was a good series full of suspense, action, laugh out loud and sweet moments, get family and friends, enemies, threats, deaths and more. However, I think that when it comes to a series like this, for me, it's the type of series that will be a one-time read for me although I think it's a series worth reading especially if you enjoy paranormal romance stories.
OMG what a great final book! My heart was in my mouth at times, especially near the end when I had absolutely no idea who, if anyone might live. The government body is even more evil, the Arvies are even more deadly and Abi has to fight even harder to protect her family. What a great series this has been.
Great ending! I absolutely loved this series. It was a fresh take on the whole zombie apocalypse but still showcasing how tough it is to survive during the time.
Great plot, characters, and just enough romance. I am a fan of this series!
I loved the final book in this series. I feel that the ending came too quick and could have had more meat to it but other that I would not change a thing. Well written and kept me on my toes.
This was a pretty good conclusion to th saga. I have to say the love scenes did drone on a bit too much and got repetitive after a while. All in all though, the plot was excellent the final chapters were edge-of-the-seat exciting!
It's been a while since I read book 4 of this series and at times I did have trouble remembering what had happened. However, there were a few reminders here and there to help me out, but I would recommend reading these books quite close together so that you don't forget key events.
I found Retribution a little repetitive in that Abi and Finn escaped the government bunker to another bunker run by other survivors, were located by the government and were on the run again. I thought the point of their escape was to head to Colorado but that didn't seem to happen. It was only at the very end that Abi's Grammy was mentioned and only in passing. This was a little disappointing as I would have liked to have seen more of Grammy. I was also expecting Abi and Finn to trek across America to Colorado and I think this might have made for good plot and opportunities for interesting character development. The ending was a little predictable and short on detail but there were still action sequences that kept me engaged.
Overall, the After Light Saga is a decent post-apocalyptic series with some good action. However, if you're not too keen on American clichés and irritating language that borders childish, avoid this series. Instead, I would recommend Charlie Higson's The Enemy series - although this is aimed at a teen audience, don't be put off by this because it is a great series.
Wow... this fifth and final book of this amazing series was just fantastic. I Absalutely loved it.
I loved the plot of the whole series, the new charcteres introduced in each book. I loved the twists and turns.
The books have been written fantastically, the characters well developed.
The MC she is just brilliant Abi ( Abigail ) she is this amazingly strong character who deals with just about anything thrown at her. She is strong courageous and just makes this book perfect. Finn is the second main character although its just from Abi's p.o.v Finn has just as big a part of this book as abi. He is amazing, strong, loveable, sexy, corny with he declairs of love.
This book has a romance to die for. Totally over the top declares of undieing love. ( i loved it ) both Abi and finns characters just bounced off each other. I loved the relationship between them and think it made the story totally epic.
What an ending it was THE "perfect ending" just brilliant.... im gutted my journey with Abi and Finn has come to an end. But i will 100% be re reading this series in the future ans join them again from the beginning.
So sad to see this series end. This is one of my favorite series. I have to say though I am said to see it end I am pleased with how Cameo wrote Retribution and pleased with the turn out. Though I did have some tears. Abi and Finn are such a great young couple. I love how they stand by each other's side. HELLFIRE of course got lots of action which I was really happy about. Thank you Cameo. Abi is a very strong female character. Love how she can kick the ARVies butts. AWESOME STORY!! Very sad to see it end! But in the end there is always HELLFIRE!!!
There is absolutely nothing I would have changed about this final installment. I am sad to see this series end, but what a wonderful ride it has been! Bravo Mrs. Renae... bravo
