Sleeper SEALs #11

Freedom Code

Rate this book
When a CIA agent is found beheaded in a Boulder, Colorado alley just hours after speaking to an informant about a potential terrorist cell, retired Navy SEAL Levi Jones is activated to find his killer. The informant herself is a suspected co-conspirator, but Levi has to rely on her to get him inside the close-knit community.

Zaida Hassan is used to going against the grain in her family. Not only does she write sexy romance stories, but she hasn't married and settled down as expected, and has no plans to in the near future. She has a personal mission to carry out first. When someone finds out about her covert activities, though, and leverages that information against her, she asks a friend to send help.

The handsome, hard-hearted man who shows up seems to have stepped right out of one of her novels, but Zaida quickly figures out that Levi Jones hasn't come to bring her fantasies to life, or even to help her. He's there to avenge the death of her friend, whom he thinks she sold out.

The Sleeper SEALs are former U.S. Navy SEALs recruited by a new CIA counter-terror division to handle solo dark ops missions to combat terrorism on U.S. soil.

Each book in this multi-author branded series is a standalone novel and the series does not have to be read in order.

"Elaine Levine is a wonderfully fresh and original voice in western romance.
RACHEL AND THE HIRED GUN is full of fast-paced action and powerful emotions. I loved it!"
-- Joan Johnston, New York Times bestselling author of A STRANGER'S GAME

"A pair of appealing, well-matched protagonists (with a bit of a history), a slimy villain, well-drawn secondary characters, and plenty of action make this rough-and-ready Western one that fans are sure to enjoy."
--Library Journal on AUDREY AND THE MAVERICK

"A beautiful romance…keeps the reader hooked from the first page to the last.” -New York Times Bestselling Author Catherine Anderson about LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

Though this is the third book of a romance trilogy, the story stands quite well on its own. Elaine Levine gives us a multi-level story about trust and being able to overcome personal fears to achieve a goal. Set in the post-Civil War era, Leah and the Bounty Hunter gives us a window into the rough-and-tumble lives of our settler-forefathers and what they did to succeed against lawlessness and the incredible challenges to settle the old West. An enjoyable read, recommended. --Monica E. Spence, Historical Novels Review on LEAH AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER

ABOUT ELAINE:

Elaine Levine is an agoraphobic who lives in her son’s basement and runs doggie daycare for his pack of hounds. Her mind, however, is irrepressible, and she fills the endless moments of endless days crafting romance fiction from dystopian headlines she reads online. Be warned—her stories are addictive and dangerously appealing to those with similarly twisted minds and hopeful hearts.

A pretty interesting book. Hard to believe that all of men couldn't understand the Freedom Code, but then they have never had to deal with the same issues as women.

It's been quite some time since I have written a review for Elaine. That in no way, means that I have not been devouring each and every one of her books. When people ask who my favorite author is, Elaine is in the numero uno spot and has held it down for years now. But I digress. I could go on and on about her books and the lovely author herself for some time.

On to the review.

This is a new one from Elaine that is different from her Red Team series. We thankfully get to see some of the beloved characters from the Red Team, so that was a nice surprise. What's different about this series is the feel of it is not as heavy as her other romantic suspense. Our main squeeze, Levi, is pretty humorous for a good portion of the book.

We are introduced to Zaida and I instantly loved her backbone and way of thinking. She is a refreshing change that I'm not used to reading. As always, Elaine writes female characters that are relatable and someone you can see yourself becoming good friends with.

The steam was on point, the mystery factors left me on the edge of my seat. Elaine is a master at weaving a tale that leaves you wondering how she does it.

It was an excellent read and I can't wait to read more exciting books from Elaine!

Freedom Code is an interesting, romantic, suspense story that brings to light that every cultural/racial group have their own inner bad groups that do not represent the moral values of the entire group, but their actions greatly affect the view of the entire group. Zaida and Levi are great together and Beau is an amazing dog. I love seeing characters from Mrs. Levine’s Red Team series helping Levi Jones in his investigation. It was a fun, action, romantic reading.

I love this series. Getting each writers viewpoint on the story premise has been fun and exciting. Elaine’s story was no exception. We got to spend time with some of our favorite red team characters. The story was full of intrigue and suspense kept you on the edge of your seat. Loved seeing this hard core Seal give into love so easy and fear for his heart. It was great seeing the dynamics play out. Loved the book

I very much enjoyed the suspense and ethnic subject matter in this story, to understand customs and behaviour of other nations helps take away some of the prejudice and fear we carry these days with all the attacks. I found this to be very useful in helping to understand a little better. The plot itself was something very much in the forefront of life these days and the worry people carry if going to big events or very populated places. The main characters were likeable and you really wanted them to succeed in finding answers as well as getting together, I also loved Elaine's characters from Red Team becoming involved since they are much loved from their own series. This is well written and has a great flow throughout, the drama keeps you on edge while the romantic side has you hoping all will be well in the end. Amazing book and a great addition to the rest in this series, I would quite happily have these go on far longer than 12 books.

I really like this author's Red Team series, so when I saw that this book was loosely connected I wanted to check it out. I liked that if you hadn't read the Red Team series you could still follow this one, no problem.

Zaida was interesting. I really liked how she explained what she did, how her books supported other women and brought up topics for them to start discussions in a place where often women are seen and not heard.

I wasn't sure about her and Levi, mostly it was Levi, he seemed a bit cold. But as things went on you could see that all Levi wanted was someone who wanted him. If he found that he would move heaven and earth to give that woman anything she wanted.

I liked seeing Levi working with the Red Team, figuring things out and beating the bad guys before they were able to cause damage. But the best part of the book was Levi talking to Zaida's parents at the end. He countered every remark right as they were spoken, giving great counterpoints.

Great book

Loved this whole series. The books all had great love stories with a lot of action. This story was well written and had a great story about problems that are happening in our country today that could be eliminated. If we could all just love each other.

Once again Elaine Levine writes another brilliant book! Her characters are well written and believable. Although this is a stand alone novel it was great to see members of her Red Team series involved. The story was action packed and I couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend it.

Out of all the Sleeper Seals books I've now read I thought Freedom Code was rather eye opening as it deals with how Muslims in America are perceived here as well as how the infected Freedom Code worm categorized whether they would be most likely to become a radical.

I have read some but not all of Ms. Levine's Red Team series so I recognized some of the characters so this can be read as a stand alone without problems.

Zaida Hussan is a romance writer who also helps out the Muslim women stand up for their rights as well as employing women to translate her books into different languages. But when one of the women comes to her with a message that her computer has been locked down by a ransomware worm, she turns to a family friend who help her parents escape Iraq years ago. When he turns up dead after their meeting Commander Lambert calls in Levi Jones to see if if Zaida is part of radicals planning an attack. She has to convince her parents that Jamal whom they've chosen for her to marry isn't her choice all the while fighting off possible kidnappers who want her dead. You'll love her description of Jamal when she tells Levi how he was in bed.

Levi Jones is an ex-Navy SEAL who is a Sunflower and herb farmer who takes an occasional job helping out Commander Lambert shut down the sleeper cells. But when he receives information that Zaida may be part of them and let loose the Freedom Code worm that identifies who could be a radicalized part of ISIS. It will take several of Levi's friends and Red Team members to discover who created the worm, why, and keep a white supremacist group and a ISIS splinter cell from attacking a fair. I loved Levi's dog Beau and help him deal with his guilt from a former girlfriend's death as well as calming Zaida down when things turn rough.

Freedom Code

This was an amazing suspenseful action packed romantic addition to the Sleeper SEALs series of books by multi authors with this one centering around Levi, a retired SEAL who was assigned the task of locating the origin of a computer worm that was invading computers around the world and holding some for ransom and ending the terrorist threat. He found this Freedom Code worm had started with a woman, Zaida 's computer who was a romance author, unbeknownst to her. After their operative, Mike was beheaded they felt a terrorist group was behind it and were threatening Zaida's life as well. Levi was a Sunflower farmer so cyber crimes were not his specialty but he would do anything that was asked of him to protect this country from terrorists. This was where this story for really exciting as Levi, his Sleeper' s group, Zaida, the FBI and Levi's friends the Red Team found the origin of the worm and who was behind it and stopped a terrorist attack which was involving drones manned with explosives that they were going to be used to kill innocent people at a local fair. Through it all Levi and Zaida ended. up falling in love and he was doing everything in his power to keep her safe from the terrorists that were out to kill Zaida. It was terrific how they accomplished taking down this terrorist cell. At the end two cultures came together Zaida's parents and Levi and they accepted him as their future son in law because their daughter loved him and he loved her. I highly recommend this book and series and am looking forward to the next release in this series. I am also sad that the next book will be the last because they have all been amazing to read.

Romantic thriller

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers
There are a few errors but nothing to get irritated about
There are some sex scenes and some swearing.
The characterisation is good, the majority of the story told from Levi's POV which I can't make my mind up if that is a good thing or not because I found Zaida had more than a touch of TSTL on the go.
Still, her character evened out more as the story developed but I have to be honest and admit I found little to actually like about her.
Levi came through as a well rounded character and was quite likeable.
It was nice to see characters from the Red Team series, including my forever favourite, Max.
With regard to the supporting characters, there was something missing, I felt no affinity with them. Her parents being a good example, the situation at the end was forced because after all that had been said they had an about turn for no reason.
The romance element is there, but it felt stereotypical and slightly forced to push the plotline along.
The plotline itself is a cracking idea but I didn't feel it was executed as well as it could have been.
That said, I have no problem recommending the book, after all I have given four stars.
The best thing about the book? The sunflower descriptors, beautifully romantic.

I have read most of the Sleeper SEALs stories, and though it might not have been my favorite, it was still a very good story.
The Sleeper SEALs are former SEALs working solo missions under Commander Greg Lambert’s direction. All missions are under the radar/black ops with the goal of eliminating the terrorist cells spreading around the USA.
This one gives us former SEAL Levi Jones and Zaida Hassan , whose parents left Iraq with the help of a CIA agent they considered their angel.
Zaida is suspected of being a terrorist when information related to terrorist appears to have been initiated by her.
I applaud the author’s research not only on the Muslim culture, but also on highlighting the issues women of all cultures have to deal with on a daily basis. The “freedom ” to have a choice and a voice to express themselves.
The plot is engaging, full of action, bad guys and hunky good guys and of course, romance, with complex main characters. I have to confess I was partial to Levy.
Another entertaining book in this series. I still wish someone would write a story about Commander Lambert :)
I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

SAWEET (as my kids say...)

This book is by far the best of the bunch so far in the Elle James Kindle world series. I’m not surprised it’s my favorite, because I absolutely love Ms. Elaine‘s Red Team book series. If you have not read Elaine Levine’s Red Team book series; get it! Seriously, get it, the series is smart, interesting, and with super hot/sexy characters. (Plus as you see she sees the intelligence of have a MWD I a military romance book!) it’ll also help you understand the book characters (I so loved the Red Team folks being brought in - gotta love Val!) overall the book was a fast read, who I believed was the bad guy ended up just being a jerk (so way to go Ms. Elaine). I think there could have been more info provided to better close out this story & I did feel like there should be another book or at minimum an extended epilogue; as some things were left hanging. I enjoyed the story & even if you have no prior knowledge of the Read Team book series of is - I truly believe you’ll enjoy this story! Some really incredible women... Ms. Elaine-more Red Team please (Selena is on her own).. Would love to see Levi/Beau join the team.....

Freedom Code

OMG! What an edge of your seat story - exciting. Too bad what happened to Mike. This story is about Levi and Zaida. Levi accepted another assignment from Greg and was skeptical about Zaida from the beginning. When Levi rescued Zaida the first attempted kidnapping, she started falling in love with him. Levi - not so much...he thought she was a terrorist. She kept denying that, she said she was a rebel not a terrorist. So now Levi had to keep Zaida safe while they found the bad guys - two groups were after Zaida. It gets kind of hairy a couple of times but once Levi and the guys who supported him neutralized the bad guys, he has to face her parents to get their blessing so they could get married. They give their blessing so these two can have their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Elaine! I would recommend this book.

Fantastic

This is the first book I have read in this series. I am a huge fan Elaine's other books, so this is why I read this one. If you haven't already read them, go read about the red team. You will meet them in this book. Max is the main character working here, but many also come to help Levi.

Levi is a SEAL without a team. He retired after an op gone bad and started farming. Still needing that adrenalin boost, he takes side jobs unofficially for the CIA. This is one of those jobs.

Zaida is an author that has "stepped" into the sights of a few terrorist organizations. Thankfully, Levi is there to help out.

It is truly not one of Elaine's books without a few twists and turns in the key locations and of course some action. This is a definite must read.

Freedom Code

Both Levi and Zaida are fighters they fight for freedom in different ways. They are perfect for each other. He fights for the freedom of choice and to keep his country safe. She fights for a woman's choice over her body, future, and who she loves no matter what culture, ethnicity, or family she comes from. Elaine Levine has captured the heart of her characters perfectly and enticed her readers along the way. This book is harsh and gentle at the same time. You will not be able to put it down.

Alls well that ends well

This is the first Elaine Levine book that I’ve read and look forward to reading more. Freedom Code was full of subterfuge, espionage and cyber skullduggery. Zaida has difficulty explaining to Levi what her “ Freedom Code” means to her and women like her, being a man, it takes Levi a while to get his head around the concept. I really thought Jamal was one of the bad guys but he turned out to be just another standover merchant. I really liked Max, Ace and Selena but absolutely loved Beau.

A good read

I really enjoyed this story. It is a suspenseful, action packed romance. Levi has been given an assignment. Eliminate the threat. When he meets Zaida, he has already assumed she was guilty. Zaida calls a friend to help her, when one of the women in her office receives a threatening message on her computer. She has no idea what's going on or who sent the message. Can Zaida prove her innocence before it's too late? Will Levi accept that she is innocent and protect her?

Freedom Code

I enjoyed this story, the characters and the storyline. Levi is the male lead he is all alpha but has a sweet side. Zaida is a the female lead she is sweet, loving and is a romance writer. These two characters are complete opposites but their chemistry is off the charts. Their relationship will progress as Levi try's to figure out Zaida's innocence and find a terrorist cell in the United States will some help from Levine's Red Team series. Freedom code is a good story and I highly recommend it. Happy Reading!

Loved it!

This was so good. Kept me in their world with all the suspense, drama and the love that ignited between Levi and Zaida. The story was intense, and I could envision every scene, feel their emotions, like I was part of it.
The whole Sleeper Seals series was fantastic. Each book so captivating and unique, but all tied to terrorism in the USA and the fight against it.

Elaine Levine scores another home run!

When I saw EV as the author of a Sleeper Seals installment, I couldn’t resist. And I was not disappointed. (To also have some of the Red Team brought in was so great, but I wish I’d gotten Selena and Ace’s reaction to Kelan’s penthouse condo.) It was especially encouraging to see an inclusive setting of thoughtful and caring people from different (usually portrayed as combative) cultures.

And sunflowers!

Interesting

Not one of my favorites, I adore Elaine Kevin's work but the heroine in this book is prissy , entitled and of course she has a worthy cause. The hero of this story is Levi, I like him. I can't for the love of me figure Zaida out. I really enjoyed the technical background of this book , there is a lot of Levin Research here as well as a great cross over from the Red team. I loved the dog and the sunflowers.

Every single person should read this book

Reading this book the same week as the school shooting in Florida and what's going g on with the #me too movement really opened my eyes and heart. This book embodies the pure goodness and humanity of all people. Every person should be allowed to make their on choices. I think we should start a Freedom code movement.

I loved Zaida. She is a little naive but a spitfire. Levi is a gentleman and true brother to his military brothers. They are always there for each other. I am going to hate to see-this series end.
Zaida and Levi are soulmates. I loved their story. I would love to learn more about Ace and Salena.

I wasn't too sure what I was getting into with this book, but it turned out to be a real winner. There's a lot of great suspense tied in with some hot bedroom spices and believable dialogue between the characters. The editing is spot on. The action well choreographed. And the ending not overdone. I loved it!

5 stars for Freedom Code by Elaine Lewis

Another great read for an amazing series of Sleeper Seals. Love the suspense. Lots of action in this book. Loved seeing member of Red Team. I want to read that series now. This storyline is truly amazing. Zaida is a joy for a heroine, and of course, Levi is truly an alpha protector. Can't wait for the next installment of Sleeper Seals.

Another great book. I love reading about military personnel and what they do for our country. Reading about Levi and Ziada making a change in the way you think of other people who are not exactly like the normal Americans was great.
