I don't have a review about this book, as I do a story about it.

I bought this book back in the 90's when I was working a Busch Gardens, Williamsburg VA., (one of the only places on earth you might run into Ben Franklin waiting in line at the grocery store to buy a gallon of milk and Cheetos).

I was reading it one day while on break at the Fest Hause, when a friend (let's call him Henry) of my manager's approached me and asked "Hey, what's that you're reading?"

"Um, it's a little embarrassing, a book on palmistry." I said. "It looked interesting so I picked it up. I don't believe in any of it, but it's kind of cool."

"So, you can read palms?" Henry asked.

"No....well....yeah I suppose technically I can tell you stuff I've learned from this book, but I ...don't have any special..."

"Read my palm!" He slapped his hand down, palm up, next to my lunch. Spork jumping a half a foot.

"Ok, I guess, but all I did was read a book." I repeated. "Anyone....almost anyone can do that."

So I look at the guys palm and "read" it. I tell him everything I see according to the BOOK. His face went white and stammered a bit and asked "You don't know anything about me, do you?" "not really" I answered, which was the truth. I wouldn't have known his name but for his name tag.

"Oh my god! You are amazing!! How did you know all that stuff about me?" He asked, starring at me bug eyed. It freaked me out a little to tell the truth.

"I didn't.....I read this book." I held it up and tapped the cover for emphasis. "I'm not amazing, I'm not psychic, I'm literate."

Ignoring me "You have to read my friends palms...they won't believe it!! You're spooky!!" he said "I'm going to set something up with them. Please do it...please, I'll pay."

"Oh for Pete's sake, I. Am. Not. Psychic.....FINE, tell me where and when....don't pay me, I'll do it for the alcohol."

That's the day I learned that I could have made a living at being a "psychic" with out any ability in that area what so ever. Then it occurred to me that maybe everyone that does do it for money, has no more ability than I do.......

Huh.

This is a book intended to be an introduction to the subject of Palmistry for people with little or no knowledge in this area. And that's in the context that I read it. Despite being an introductory book to the subject, it is very complete, covering various aspects (shape of the hand, fingers, lines, and mounts) in quite a detailed way. The explanations are simple and enlightening, and the structure of the book, as well as the various illustrative figures, are well executed. It did not clarify all my doubts, but that was not the purpose. The goal was to familiarize myself with the subject, and that purpose was achieved. Four and a half stars.

So, as someone who doesn't really believe in this sort of thing, I can't say how useful this book is, or if you'll learn how to read a persons' future or past or what else. It does tell you how to do it, and what to apparently look for and the like, and if you really believe in it and want to give it a go, then you'll most likely get something out of it. If you have an open mind, then you'll also get something out of it.

I liked how it was divided into different sections, and how it gave visual readings. There were a few things it didn't give ideas on how to read, but as this is a basic first step to palm reading, well, you can't get everything at once.

But hey, if you're just looking to see how palm readers do it, and where they get their info from, give this book a flick through. It's fun.

I found this book to be very interesting. It presented everything in an educational manner so that I really felt like I had a better understanding of reading the lines of the hand. It almost offered too much information, too much to really retain anyway. It was if someone wanted to share all their little secrets and that's a lot of information to cram into one how to book.

I am not interested in palm reading, but I received this book along with another one by the same publisher. I will say it is a very nice looking book, clear drawings, and appears to be packed with information. I skimmed it, to be honest. I intend to keep the book, however, because it looks so nice tucked up next to the other one I have.

Bought this a while back to learn to read palms. I can now do a basic read and that is about it. But it was a great read and a lot of fun to learn the history and culture behind palm reading, lines and fortune.
