Jammie Day!

Rate this book
Cliffy is a middle child: a little less loud, a little less messy, and a little less conspicuous than his four siblings. One cold, winter morning, Cliffy doesn't feel like getting dressed. So he tells his mom it's jammie day and heads to school in his favorite footy pajamas.
His mom might not have been paying attention. His teacher and his dad are distracted, too. So Cliffy gets away with it for a day... then a week... then a month. The other kids at school catch on quickly and start making every day jammie day, too! This playful read-aloud pokes fun at preoccupied adults and lets the kids win. Adorable, nuanced artwork elevates the story with a true-to-life depiction of family chaos, emotion, and warmth. The illustrations especially show off Cliffy's jammies, which become more worn, torn, and beloved as the months go by.

I loved the idea of this book. Cliffy is the middle child of five siblings and he seems to be overlooked at times. He is not ignored, just not always in the limelight. When he decides he wants to wear his Jammies to school one day, his mother lets him. He tells her it is Jammie day. When his teacher wonders about what he is wearing, he tells her it is Jammie day. Next thing you know it is weeks, months and many of the kids in the class are wearing their Jammies. As I type this review, I am wearing my Jammies. This is a cute book where the large family can be chaotic and busy as shown in the illustrations and the parents sometimes not completely paying attention to what is going on. It is just a funny story as we see the parents wearing their jammies by the end. I did not see where Cliffy was really ignored or hard done by being the middle child so did not worry about that aspect, I just thought it was any large group whether it was a family or a classroom. The illustrations were adorable. They were done in a muted pastel type colour to show the whimsical aspect of the book. I loved watching Cliffy's jammies degrade as the story went on. A cute book for a family library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Jammies are a favorite in our house. A book about a boy who wants to stay in his jammies each and every day for school is a big crowd pleaser. While I found the story sweet and the illustrations positively delightful in their muted color palette, it made me feel slightly sad to see the middle child be "forgotten" as is regularly depicted. Even if no one seems to be paying attention to him, you still get the sense that all the children are loved in this family of seven.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What could be more comfortable than wearing your pajamas all day. Although I never had pajama day when I was in school, when my daughter was in school it was one of the spirit days, along with twins day, and spirit day, and things like that.

Cliffy doesn't want to wait for "Jammie day" to come, and instead decides that since pajamas are so comfortable, that he would just declare it Jammie Day, and no one questions him. Not his teacher, not his parents, and certainly not the other kids, who pick up on that every day is Jammie Day.

Cute picture book where the parents and teachers finally catch on, but don't stop him from wearing pajamas.

3,5/5. Story about being different and even if a bit «lost» or inattentive you still deserve love and respect. Ode to the difference. Nothing extraordinary here but an interesting book worth reading!

I'm a little bit conflicted about this book. On the one hand, I love the illustrations; they are very sweet and happy. And, I can easily identify with a child who wants to wear pajamas all day, every day. Sounds great! But, at the same time, I don't like the fact that Cliffy is completely ignored by everyone in his life except for his school friends. I know that in many cases parents with 4+ children can be distracted, but I don't think they are that clueless. I suppose that the final illustration in this story demonstrates that Cliffy's family does begin to take notice of him, but I would have appreciated if that point was more heavily emphasized at the end. Regardless of that point, I still gave this story 3 stars because I like the illustrations and the story has some good themes about individuality, even if it does seem to further the stereotype that middle children are often forgotten. Just as a side note, Cliffy is going to develop some serious body odor if he keeps wearing the same pair of pajamas constantly (I know, not relevant, but that's where my brain goes).

My Review: I received this book via Netgalley. I love the idea of a Jammie Day (even more so now that I am an adult) and Munchkin is always asking for a PJ Day at school, so I thought this would be a fun story. While it was a bit of a silly story with convincing everyone that it is jammie day for a day, a week and more, there is a bit of a sad part too. I didn't really like the idea of portraying the middle child as being ignored to the point of not truly paying attention to what they are saying or wearing. While I know this is meant to be a funny story, this little tidbit doesn't sit well with me. Munchkin, being an only child, didn't catch on and now tries to convince me all the time it is PJ day at school.

This charming book about Cliffy, a middle child, is all about a little boy who is sandwiched between a big brother and sister and a small brother and sister. He is just kind of there and often seems many times to go unnoticed.

One cold winter morning Cliffy decides he won't get dressed but wants to stay in his jammies all day long. He fibs to his mom and tells her it's Jammie Day at school. Distracted by her own thoughts and not delving into the truth of what Cliffy tells her she consents to let him do his thing and wear his jammies. Off he goes to school in his favourite footy pajamas feeling mighty fine and proud of himself.

His dad and even his teacher are unfazed about his strange attire and sneaky Cliffy pulls the wool over their eyes for a day... a week... then a whole month. Oh my this kid is good!!! The adults around him may be fooled but the smart kids at school climb aboard Cliffy's bandwagon and they start parading around at school in their pajamas too. The ending is just perfect and will have you smiling for sure.

This fun read-aloud is great because guess who wins? Not the pre-occupied adults but the kids themselves making this book a huge hit. Yes!!!! The illustrations are spot-on perfect, full of humour, family chaos, and emotion. They showcase how Cliffy's jammies progressively become more tattered and torn ... loved almost threadbare by their happy, contented owner. I highly recommend this book.

There is much to notice in this short, seemingly simple story of Cliffy, who is in the middle with two older siblings and two younger, and who knows what he knows, knows what he likes, and knows when the people around him are paying attention. Does he get away with pulling the wool, erm, fleece over his mother's eyes? Yes. Does his success encourage his classmates toward similarly "fuzzy" thinking? Yes. Is this cautionary tale to parents thoroughly endearing? To this mother of a once-upon-a-time little boy who knew what he knew and liked what he liked? Yes. I love the last illustration showing the whole family (cat included) walking away in their own jammies and that the back cover asks the question I want an answer to after reading this story. "Why can't every day be Jammie Day?"

Lesson ideas? This story could easily tie in to discusions of onomatopoeia and opposites. When my littlies are learning about days/weeks/months/years, this story can help to reinforce those concepts as Cliffy turns Jammie Day into Jammie Week, Jammie Month and then Jammie Year. This story could be a nice tie-in to inference and prediction when you look at the two-page spread showing the holes, patches, and stains.

Snyder, Carrie. Jammie Day!, PICTURE BOOK. Owlkids Books, Inc., 2017. $18.95.

Cliffy has a big brother and a big sister. He has a little brother and a little sister. He is smack dab in the middle. Cliffy knows what he knows and likes what he likes and one morning he decides that it is going to be Jammie Day. So, he wears his nice, fuzzy footie jammies to school and all the other kids think it’s awesome. Cliffy does too. They’re so cozy and soft, and they slide so well on the footies. He enjoys it so much that he decides the next day is Jammie Day too (so do a lot of the other kids at school). Then he decides it’s Jammie Week. Jammie Month. Jammie Year.

This book is a great representation of how kids often get stuck on one piece of clothing and wear it down to nothing. There is a cute illustration toward the end of the book that labels how Cliffy’s jammies have been worn out. Readers will relate to Cliffy’s Jammie Day desires.

*thank you to Owlkids Books and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

4 stars.
This was so adorable and it made me laugh. The idea of a jammie day! Now who hasnt wished that they could just call a work day or school day a jammie day. I know I'd rather be wearing mine more often than not. It was totally cute and such a FUN read! Little kids will love this! The images are splended and I love the choice of the colours that were used. Im adding this to my 'need to buy when released' list.

Well done to Carrie Snyder for the story and to Brooke Kerrigan for the wonderful illustrations.

Cliffy is the middle child in a family of five kids. One day he decides to wear his pajamas to school and tells everyone it's Jammie Day. The other kids copy him and he keeps going with the idea for months. My daughter enjoyed Cliffy (apparently) fooling all the preoccupied adults. The story is very cute and the illustrations realistically convey the chaos of a house with five kids. I love the breakfast scenes with the stuff all over the floor.

Thank you Net Galley for the ARC to review.

Cliffy has the right idea- Why not Jammie Day? Grownups can get awful busy with day-to-day life and as a middle child he realizes that they are not always paying attention. So off he goes to school, in his comfy polka-dot "footie pajamas"! What is not to love! The beautiful illustrations convey a nice calm feeling, even when a situation is the normal topsy-turvy life of a large family. Cliffy continues on in a nice calm convicted manner getting what he wants - Jammie Day!!!

Never judge a book by its cover. That's what they say. However, I do. If I see a cute book cover, I will read the book. If I hate a book cover I won't even give it a chance. I kow this is wrong, especially considering I work in a library...but I ramble. I LOVED this book cover!

What an adorable book. This would be the perfect book to read to students on pajama day at school! Who doesn't like to be in their jammies all day. I love being in my jammies all day.

The illustrations are wonderful, soft and I laughed when I saw some of them.

I loved this little cheeky book! The colors and pictures are wonderful and engaging. A child of toddler to older child would love this book. Cliffy (child in the book) has two older sibling and two younger sibilings. He decides one day is pajammie day, then a whole week, then a whole month, and finally a whole year.. He believes no one is paying attention to what he wears etc, not his parents or teacher. It is an all around great book.

Jammie Day' by Carrie Snyder and published by Owl Kids Books is filled with cozy fun for the whole family. Cliffy knows how to make the most of life's challenges. "It's Jammie Day," he confidently announces to his Mother, who might not be listening. Before long, Jammie Day has a life of its own. Brooke Kerrigan 's illustrations are a perfect fit! No pun intended. Great picture book for story hour and bedtime alike!

This story is adorable. The middle of 5 children, Cliffy is often looked over. And not just by his family, but by his teacher as well. It’s how he convinces them it’s Jammie Day at school. But the other kids notice too, and they all have a jammie day, for the next few day.

I kinda feel like I missed the real point of this entire book. The only thing that I really got from it was that parents, teachers, and most adults in general really don't listen to kids (or at least that's what the kids think). Cute illustrations, but overall....what was the point?!?!

Cliffy is a middle child in a large family. Sometimes it is challenging to be in this position, especially when your older siblings are know-it alls and your younger siblings don’t know very much at all. Cliffy discovers a rather funny way to distinguish himself in his family and become noticed. He decides that he will not get dressed in the morning and stays in his cozy flannel pajamas. Cliffy explains to his family and teachers that it is Jammie Day and interestingly enough, he is able to successfully go through the day wearing his pajamas.

Wearing pajamas all day certainly can be fun, but it also can pose some problems. Find out just how long Cliffy is able to stay in his pajamas!!

Cute story showing how one kid CAN make a difference. Even so, I was a little bothered by the insinuations that grown-ups don't pay attention or listen to kids. Even if it may be reality, kids don't need extra reinforcement of this sad parental behavior. Still, we liked the creative spirit of the little boy and how he was able to get the whole class modeling his behavior without even realizing it.
