Galactic Courtship #2

Claiming His Champion

Rate this book
Anara may just be a human woman in the merciless Friren arena, but her ordinary exterior hides a deadly killer. As reigning champion, she's earned her freedom three times over, but each time she chooses to stay. After all, she's the best at what she does, and there's nothing that can replace the feeling of the audience cheering her name. Complacency can kill, though, and the Frirens have thrown out a new twist to knock her from her throne - a champion-killer to end her winning streak. In a world where it's kill or be killed, Anara's not going down without a fight.

Rauhq lost himself in the arena years ago, tormented by the slaughter of his family, and unable to exact revenge. Now he takes out his rage on his opponents, and no one can stand against him and his devastating power. Taking out a human woman won't even be a challenge - until Rauhq discovers, mid-battle, that she is his mate. Now Rauhq faces a new challenge: claiming a mate who doesn't want to be claimed, keeping her alive, and getting them both out of the arena.

Lily Thomas is a world traveler who speaks Danish. Lily uses her experiences from other countries to bring her stories to life, drawing on the rich history and culture she enjoyed during her time in Europe, and in particular, her time in Denmark.

The Giant Wars series was inspired in part by the tales of Scandinavian folklore.

Ice Age Alphas was inspired by her love of all things caveman/early human history. She also loves shifters, so creating a paranormal ice age romance series was just perfect!

Her short story series, Galactic Courtship, is written proof of her love of sci-fi and romance.

"The arena either became your life or took your life"

In the previous story, neither of the leads characters was in the arena by choice, they had been stolen from their lives. I'm "Claiming His Champion" both Anara and Rauhq are fighting in the arena by choice, the outside world... feeling either empty for them, or a place they were choosing to take a time away from.

Each of these characters seem to have used their time in the arena to grow stronger, not just physically, but in the inside, where it can't be seen, but often is most needed.

This done in one quick read was a lot of fun, finding humor in unexpected places, and showing too people who never dated imagine the Universe would give them even a small gift, giving them more than they could have ever dated hope for.

Second review/thoughts, after listening to the Audible version:

There can be only one! Right?

Each arena has a champion... and when the folks who run the arenas want to shake things up, they bring in the champion from another arena, because there an be only one, right?

Inara is a human woman, an unlikely champion, yet not only is she her arena's champion, twice she's had the chance to take her freedom and leave, and both times she stayed -- in part because she had no where to go, and no idea how she'd make her way in this Universe.

Rock knows being transferred to a different arena from where he's the champion means he's expected to provide some deadly entertainment... nothing new really. Except his reaction to Inara changes everything.

This done in one story focuses on the different choices we make when we're alone in the world vs. when we're in a relationship, how family can give us strength, be used to hurt us, or feel like an impossible hope/dream.

I really enjoyed the narrator for this story, some nice alien accents, and subtle changes between his and her sections that made it super easy to keep track of whose perspective we were in.

Alien battle arena? Yes please!!!

I really enjoyed this book. It is the second in the series, but I feel like it could be a standalone. This one was better edited them the last, but still has some typos. Anara is champion of the arena and then she goes up against the champion of another group. Sparks fly because they are mates! Good ending.

Rauhq and Amara was awesome. Once Amara learns to trust Rauhq they become an amazing team in the arena. I can't wait for the next book.

Story: Anara (h) is the reigning champion fighter in an alien gladiator fight arena. Rauhq (H) is a large blue alien champion fighter brought in to the area where Anara fights. They're shocked to discover they're fated mates - Rauhq is thrilled and Anara less so as she never thought to have anything more than her role as a fighter. Anara starts to come around to seeing the value in having Raugh as her mate and figures he can just be her back-up protector in the fight arena – for a bit I felt like Anara was just using him to help her fight and was annoyed at her given how patient and endearing Rauhq was towards her. Their feelings and sexual tension between the two deepen and things get very hot and steamy between the two. Lots of action and adventure with different battles along the way as Anara and Rauhq have to work together to get out of the arena to win their freedom and find their HEA.

Audio: Narrator was actually pretty good for both the male and female voices in this one. I enjoyed listening to this in the car over several days, though I did have to make sure the windows were up during the sexy scenes.

Anara and Rauhq

Anara is a bada$$ b*that who is the an arena to fight for her life. She's also the top champion!

Rauhq is a species that is known for their superior fighting skills. Brought to the arena to take out the top champion. Little does he know she's steal somthing he thought long gone, his heart.

I do love when the heroine is just as or more fierce then the hero. So good! Must read!

Gentle Gladiator Novel

I procrastinated reading this book because so many recent sci-fi novels are so graphically violent. Was surprised at how well balanced the gladiator scenes were with the romance. Pleasant Read.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story was extremely interesting, especially in seeing how two strong personalities come together and learn to rely on each other. Seeing their relationship slowly come together was nice.
