They told me never to be frightened
in the hills around Matagalpa.
They never said why, just
that it was the worst
idea of all.

of severed thumbs

rough canvas hood
with drawstring
& filled
with quicklime
pulled down rapidly
over the head
while the arms
are pinned
drawstring
pulled tight
Nothing more to it
than that
It is then
highly advisable
to stand back
& watch
from a distance
