Checked it out from my local library on a whim. I didn't really care for it. I tried to go into it with an open mind hoping I would come away from it having learned something new. It's not even what would generally be considered basic or fundamental by any standard. It's honestly pretty boring. If you are new to Paganism/Witchcraft, I would suggest Scott Cunningham, Donald Michael Kraig, or Raymond Buckland.

They give better instructions and explanations that are less repetitive and random. An example of which is her use of lavender water in everything. It's not a bad idea, but it's a shame if it's one of your only ideas. Nobody likes a one trick pony. The way she puts things makes it seem like she just made it up as she went along and didn't think she needed an editor or any source material.

A final note I think is worth mentioning is that she has a passage where she shames the use of "black magic". Hard to enjoy a book that has the author high upon her horse talking down to us peasants whom do not all follow the threefold law and are not Wiccan. I'm not even opposed to an author expressing their viewpoint in that regard. I just think there is a more respectful way to go about it. Like in Modern Magick, Kraig believes in karma and gives a word of caution based on what happened to a female Satanist friend of his. Using an anecdotal experience as a warning (very briefly) is very different than shaming those who practice their craft differently

Whether you are a beginner of magic practise or someone more advanced, this book will benefit you. With plenty of information on how to build an altar, cast a circle and prepare your magical environment, the author has answered all the need to knows before you even get to the spell portion of the book.

This book is well organised and makes it easy for you to locate just the kind of spell you are looking for. The spells range from simple to more complex and include a variety of topics and ways to perform them to get the utmost effects from them.

This is an enchanting read, filled with good ideas and a lot of useful information for any stage of a magical journey.

I found this book to be highly useful and look forward to having a copy of it on my magic shelf.

This review is based on a complementary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley, All opinions are my own.

First impressions (and it’s physical resilience when tossed in my purse)
The Little White Book of Spells is absolutely adorable. This sturdy, hardcover book was able to survive the black hole of swirling confusion that is my purse. Good job, buddy! And I’m so happy it is sturdy because I brought that thing with me everywhere.

When The Little White Book of Spells starts, it doesn’t play around. When you pass the table of contents you’re tossed into the world of Magick, with a tight-fitting safety vest on. Ileana Abrev, the author, guides the reader through every learning road block they come across. Or, rather, she equips you with the… equipment necessary to follow along with the book and practical application of the spells within.

The book dives in headfirst
Opening with the chapter “Colorful Magic,” Abrev describes what color magic is and how it can be applied to your practice. “Crystal Magic” and “Bath Magic” followed. Halfway through the book she focuses on the intention of the spell for each section, knowing that you’ve read the meanings behind the herbs or crystals or candles necessary for the spell. She doesn’t lay you out to dry without fabric softener; she explains how and why this or that is.

The spells aren’t usually complicated, both in application and explanation. Most of them, when you have the basics like colored candles and holders, and a morter and pestal, you have the tools you need. In the rare instance that some ingredient is hard to find, there are others spells that may touch on what you need. That being said, most of the spells are very specific. For instance, the spell “Blue Light of Protection” creates protection for your family while “Knots of Love” will create peace from those who want to wage war against you. While those two spells are very specific, they are still related. The Knot of Love can offer protection by ending the threat.

TLWBS is a book that you will use when-needed. This isn’t a book to be read front to back. For instance, I read the intro to the various tools for magic and used spells that I just needed at that moment.

However…
However, there’s a drawback to this book, a big one: there’s no index. No index means that I have to try to figure out where what is when it’s needed. That’s a time-killer but not a huge problem. Becuase the TLWBS is so tiny, and most of the spells don’t even take half of a tiny page, it isn’t that big of a deal. If I were reading The Crystal Bible I would absolutely need the index. But for such a small book with short spells, I could live without an index.

Organization of The Little White Book of Spells
The wayThe Little White Book of Spells is organized is fantastic, too. There’s an overarching subject, like, for instance, love, and subsections for specifics. There is a spell for protection: Spells for the Strike Me Once Method; that spell section has a variety of small, different spells for subjects within that specific subject. If you need something quick and specific, then you’re likely to ind it in this book.

The end of the book has something fun to do: a Book of Shadows worksheet. A Book of Shadows is like a witches journal, where they record the spells they did; spells they created; the effects of the spells; how they felt before and after the spell; and how much time it took to manifest. (The BoS doesn’t need to be limited to spells, however.) The worksheet Abrev put in the book is short and sweet and to the point. She suggested that you write the answers in your own BoS.

Finally, The Little White Book of Spells ends with a glossary of Witchy terms; most of which I already knew but essential ones to the craft.
Would I recomend this book to someone else? Sure, Witchy or not this is a fun book. It’s instructional for the beginners or those who have no intention of becoming a Witch, but also to the more experienced that don’t have a lot of time to cast spells.

The Little Big Book of White Spells by Ileana Abrev

9780738751696

408 Pages
Publisher: Llewellyn Worldwide, Llewellyn Publications
Release Date: January 8, 2017

Nonfiction (Adult), Religion, Spirituality, Magic, Witchcraft

The book is divided into the following sections.

White Spells
White Spells for Love
White Spells for Protection
White Spells on the Go

The book contains spells for colors, crystals, candles, herbs, and essential oils. It is like having your own grimoire with spells for every need. I was pleased that the author does not use manipulation especially in love spells, or what she refers to as dark love. I must admit, this is one of the most complete spell books I have come across. The author did a wonderful job writing directions and providing supply lists for each spell. If you are looking for a specific spell, I am sure you will find it in this book. I recommend this book to level practitioner.

A quarter of this book has some interesting information about spells.

However, the majority of this book is about how to attract a man…or woman. Literally over half the book is dedicated to this endeavor!

Apparently there are a bunch of witches sitting around casting spells to bring love and lust into their lives… or to keep some harlot from stealing their man.

Where are all the witches looking to be omnipotent!?

C’mon ladies….and some gentlemen …I assume. Actually, I bet the male witches…Mitches?…aren’t sitting around their cauldrons casting spells for Miss Right. Nope. They are casting spells to make double the pay of women. Guess what? It worked.

Also , when I read about rubbing pumpkins on your vaj to increase fertility…. WITCH, please!

I just want a spell to make Debbie at work quit being a … well…it rhymes with blunt.

So I read the bio of this and it's exactly what I wanted.
Now I can fix up sh*t in my school. I can stop my ex from being such a drama queen with his depression, I can pay mum's back, I can remove a curse (mum doesn't like negative ora's), I can make life so much easier for everyone else.

The best thing is I can find my true witch potential even though I am born with both Light and Dark magic but I guess some good in the world can't hurt.
Chaos I can control but for now I'll do with how I was raised(most of how) with good, that bad stuff can live with a skeleton underground.
Anyway bye!!

I promised myself I’ll be more open minded and cut all the judgement towards others out of my thoughts this year (or at least try my best to do it) and as a part of that journey I decided to read some books I normally never would :) I enjoyed the positivity of this book and found it easy to read and quite fun. I cant wait to try some of the spells myself 🤓 will report back if they work.

The Little Big Book of White Spells is for both the novice and the advanced. Covering a range of topics from love to protection. The spells and topics are both informative and easy to follow along. A must have for every witch's library.

Some fun ideas, but I didn't really enjoy the organization of the material -- it seemed caught between a classic, traditional tone and modern times, so there was an overall dated feeling to this. The brevity of the spells/advice reads choppy and lacks flow.

Checked this book out from the library. Not really a book to read front to back. I need to own this book! Not very interested in the spells about relationships and love, but the rest of the book felt less fluffy than others of it's kind.

I’ve already tried few rituals from the book and I can confidently say, I recommend it for witches and magic practitioners, who don’t want lots of theories, just a list of potential rituals to apply to one’s practice. It’s not knowledge filled but definitely reliable.

I absolutely loved how personal the authors voice was when writing. This book was full of lovely, simple spells, base knowledge of associations in Wicca between elements, colors, days, the moon, etc., and everything else a beginner needs to know to get started. There were short, on-the-go spells (I loved this) along with lengthier, more complicated spells to ease readers into. This felt like listening to wisdom from an auntie when you were reading it. I’d definitely recommend this for both new and more experienced witches.

I've just finished Ileana Abrev's "The Little Bog Book of White Spells", which is a good spell book with some useful information in it. I've read several different types of spell books, and this one is pretty on par with what to expect.

Abrev discusses how to get started using this book and the basics of spell working. How to set up a altar, color magic, some crystal work, correspondence charts, items you will need to set up a practice, all of this is useful setting the groundwork for being successful. This is great for beginners, and a useful reference or refresher for the more advanced worker.

This book has a wide range of different spell workings, ideas for candle spells, love spells, workings for letting go and so on. Most of these are easy to do, with ingredients and supplies that shouldn't be too hard to find. I do appreciate that in a spell book (or well any "crafting" book for that matter) as trying to find ingredients like eye of bat and tongue of newt can be hard to come by. My favorite section of this book is titled "Once, Twice but not a Third Time Around". These are quick spells Abrev designed to get your message across quickly without having to to terribly long workings.

If you have other spell books, you may not need this one. I liked some of the workings in it, but nothing in this was dramatically new. That isn't a bad thing, but if you already have a shelf full of spell books you may not "need" this one. If you are just starting out and your collection is small, I can recommend this book. Seems to have a solid foundation for to grow upon and these are easy workings and information you can do and use to gain confidence in yourself. I enjoyed the book, I found it useful as I love reading about how other people approach the craft.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Do you want money, love, power, friendship, more color in your life, and are you interesting to defeat your most common disturbs? Maybe The Little Big Book of White Spells by Ileana Abrev will be the answer for you! The book will be published this January 8th by Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd.

You can have good luck, you can attract the world, you can avoid negativies, you can be more...colored do you know? Yes you can, also that thanks to the help of... Colors! Yes colors, and in particular choosing them carefully for your wardrobe.

Crystals, another chapter of the book will be able to cure a lot of symptoms and little illness, and then magical bath, herb and plant magic...An important chapter to me the one of candles.

I don't know you but I love candles. After my dad passed away I sure enjoy everyday to bring him some candles for avoiding any kind of obscurity.

Each candle and each color of the candle you will pick up will have a different meaning. If you will choose the white one you will search for protection and purity, purple for family and so on. It depends the use you must do with candles and the message you want to spread to the Universe and the answers you are searching.

A special section of the book all dedicated to love, and self-love, break-up, negativities connected to love.

The book written with great enthusiasm by Ileana Abrev The purpose: helping you to realize your dreams and desires using remedies pretty old, more commonly used by pagans. Fascinating.

It's a great book! and I like the cover so badly. When I meet a black cat I can tell you my day will be extra-lucky! Oh, what a terrible witch I am! ;-)

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

After reading this book I have mixed feelings about this book. When you are really into witchcraft, i think this is a perfect book for you. I have lost my interest over time though and therefore I was less intrigued by the book as hope. It contains different kinds of magic like color and candles and spells you can use in different areas. I think the fysical version would be better received...
