This paranormal reverse harem romance book has been professionally edited. If you have previously bought this book an update should be available soon. My apologies for any inconvenience. Your comments are appreciated and definitely noted. Thanks for reading Dark Hearts!. If you enjoy it please take a few minutes to rate it.

A few months ago, I’d never heard of Dark Hearts, an organization dedicated to the destruction of the entire human race.
As far as the Order goes, they’re supposedly the good guys although I question some of their tactics. The name stands for nothing more than their goal, which is trying to maintain order among the planets and keep the inhabitants safe.

A few months ago, my life was the simple existence of a normal teenage girl. I’d never heard of either of those organizations. I had a mother that loved me and a roof over my head.

A few months ago, my biggest problem was not having a boyfriend. Now I have six or is that seven...even that has become complicated because you see they're all gorgeous males that would do anything for me, however they aren't human.

You say how can a normal teenage girl fall in love so quickly with a gargoyle, two wendigoes, a sun seraph, a warlock and a shape-shifter? I don't know. I only know that I do love them all and possibly an ancient vampire. My mother is missing and an ice storm is brewing. Could my life get any more complicated...

This is a paranormal reverse harem romance. It contains sexual situations and some bold language. It is not recommended for children.

DNF'ed at 14%. I tried. I really did.

But I couldn't do it. This is by far one of the worst books that I have ever had the displeasure to read. Dear Lord. The writing was something akin to a 12 year old writing self-insertion fanfiction where they shed their ugly teenage self and become a smoking hot bombshell with millions of boys tripping over themselves to lick her boots.

And I quote:

"My image in the mirror was the reflection of a reasonably pretty girl with short, curly, dark brown hair and brilliant blue eyes. I was still adjusting to the brilliance of my eyes. Thanks to the colored contact lenses, my nondescript blue eyes were not emphasized with a brighter shade of blue. That seemed to be my facial pivotal point, which the receptionist at the optometrist's office mentioned."

Multiple uses of the same words and descriptions over and over. You would think it would get better as the book progresses. Shall we find out?

"I wasn't a vain girl, but as I turned in front of the mirror, I couldn't help admiring what I saw.

I'd like to take the opportunity here to state that I am now 4% into the book and the only thing that has happened is a lengthy description of her appearance and how she became hot over the summer.

Okay, I'll give it a bit more time. I'll read a bit more. Maybe some dialogue will help!

"Wow, you look great girl. I can't wait to see the faces of those bitches, Brittany, Nicole and Janelle. You're prettier than any of them on their best day."
"Thanks, I'm not sure that's totally true. I don't really care what the 'sisters' think anyway, Tori. You know that. I'm only interested in one guy's opinion."
"Don't scrunch your face like that. You'll get wrinkles. You know they're bitches as well as I do. It doesn't really matter, this year's going to be different for both of us. Maybe we'll have the entire football team wanting a date with us. I know. I know, you're only interested in Raven."

I must continue! I will make it! I will soldier on!

"He was almost too handsome. The guy was at least six-feet, four-inches tall, with a face that was nearly perfect. He had a predominate chin, straight nose, and full lips that even looked kissable to me. Salvatore Brothers look out! The hunks on Vampire Diaries had nothing on this guy. He wasn't as handsome as my guy Raven, but he was definitely a looker.

Do you see what I mean? The language in this book is so stilted. It reminds me of one of those college introduction scenarios they make you sit through freshman year. "What do you do if your friend passes out at a party?" "What do you do if your friend wants to drive home drunk?" "Why do we not try to pet the deer on campus?" .

The dialogue in this book comes in blocks where they answer their own questions and move on. It doesn't flow like a normal conversation. There is no real excitement or disdain or life in this book at all. The author has no concept of what real people sound like.

The characters are all vain and one dimensional. I can't get on board with a character that spends the first 10% of a book talking about her clothes. It's stupid. You are a fucking high school senior. You should be worried about your GPA, your college applications, your ACT, your SAT, college finances, the AP tests...not whether or not you're going to be confident enough to wear those mini skirts that your friend omg TOTALLY made you buy!

I'm also not digging the girl hate in this book. There are three popular girls that apparently make life hell for everybody else and while I am not denying that that exists in high schools, there is no real description of what is happening. The author does not understand how to use description to further a point. Show, not tell. I can get on board with a mean girl at school. I hate when a girl is considered a "bitch" because she is popular. It just shows that the main character is as shallow and judgmental as the mean girl.

I just found this gem:

"OMG- could this day get any worse? Mr. Bruns couldn't have made my day any more unbearable if he'd tried.

Child, he is a fucking teacher. Of course he can make your day more unbearable. Especially when you have to sit next to a guy that is apparently unbelievably attractive for just one period. Shoot me now. Nothing could be worse.

I can't imagine the rest of the book getting any better than this pile of nonsense. So, with a good laugh and a "I hope to never see you again!", I am trashing this book and wiping my hands clean of it. Be gone.

Edit: Apparently this thing is the result of someone editing it? There is a little note at the beginning about it. What do you mean this has been edited? This author must have some terrible betas or they were smoking something really potent. Everybody needs to have that one friend who can be honest with you and say your work needs some work.

- teen drama;
- Did I say vain & self centered MC?;
- it's probably safe to say that I didn't enjoy it at all.

No. Just.... no.

The rough idea of the story is interesting, but the writing is so incredibly terrible! How did this get published?! The over use of "therefore" and "as you know" made this a painful read and I definitely wont be looking out for book 2.... ughhhhhhh

Just ok

I struggled to fully read this book. Although I absolutely love reverse harem books, this one just didn't work for me. The characters were nice and the guys were great. The storyline was OK but the style of writing is very difficult and frustrating. When the characters talk to each other they repeat the same things over again and speak unlike normal people. They use each other's names too often and go into far too much detail about the situation that no real person would ever do.It's very frustrating and makes for a unrealistic read. I did like the storyline of the characters like I said before but I had a hard time with the verbiage. I will read the next book just because I want to know what happens next because that's who I am.

This is the first reverse harlequin book that I have read and I have to say I quite enjoyed the concept of it.

I love reading, especially when I get caught up in the story line but while I did get caught up in the story line, I had to skip through some parts cause it just seemed to drag on. Even though I skipped parts I never had to back track cause I felt like I missed something. I hate when authors drone on about something you have already understood.

The characters are great I just wish the author would get to the point faster. I love Raven and hope that the second book moves faster. I am excited for the second book but I got to say if it doesn't move faster it will most likely be the last I read.

Who doesn't love a book where gargoyles, Angels, windigos, and a vampire all want to share one woman???

I really wanted to like this

Seeing the author had made an effort to Gabe her worked professionally edited i really wanted to like this book but i just didn't work for me. The first 33% covers one day of school and could be summarised as: girl has summer makeover and find boys more interested. The story is just a bit clunky, a male bff / boyfriend who is unconvincing as both and a female lead who comes across as shallow and a bit mean. On the one hand she's described as shy, on the other she has lots of friends. plot "reveals" are handled too bluntly e.g. the first make narrative reads like a bad movie "save girl save universe" ...it just isn't sophisticated enough.I rarely do this but I gave up at the half way mark. I'm sure there is a good story in here somewhere but the "read" just isn't good enough right now.

Hmmmm.......I finished it

Well the good news is I got through the book .....the bad news it took me 3day. For someone who goes through 3 books in one day that says a lot. It was a great story but the way it was executed was terrible. I was actually surprised this wasn't your first book because it read as if it was. I loved the way you set it up the story and ideas were great I don't want to be negative #sorry. The writing was a mess you were super descriptive when you didn't need to be and the character just sound wrong . I had to walk away from this book a few time because I got frustrated with how your writing was done .I can honestly say if I had to pay for this book I would have request a refund but because I am a member it was free. Thank goodness

I think that this book has possibilities. Its been edited, so I don't know how it was before. There is sometimes too much description, and sometimes when its conversations, not enough as its easy to lose track of who is talking. Sometimes the speaker says the name of the person he is talking to more than once in the conversation.
However, I am interested in the follow up book whenever that comes out. I think the story has promise. Having looked at the writers other stories though, they are not written the same...yes they are more grown up, but the main characters don't seem quite as though they need everything saying simply.

I read the second edition on the book (apparently there were some editing problems in the first book). The storyline was good (if not predictable) and the characters were fine. The writing was a bit annoying, but not enough to make me stop. Just a lot of repetition from one paragraph to the next, and I struggled thinking anyone actually spoke with way the dialogue was written.
Nevertheless - it was good enough for me to finish and move on to book 2.

DNF: maybe 10%, and that's a 9,99% too much. It actually hurt to read it. The dialogues were painful, the characters... I didn't even want to know what kind of supernaturals they were. Didn't like the protagonist or her BFF.
Hope to forget this book as soon as posible. I don't usually give one star ratings, in fact it's extremely rare, but this one... My God, if I could I would erase it from my mind.

Fire the Editor....

.... and proof read your own work! I only made it to 13% because of the grammar issues combined with the bad dialogue and the author's inability to keep the story straight. I should have listened to the other reviews and ignored the "Professionally Edited" stamp.

Just okay

First I'd like to say that I like reverse harem books. This series has potential, but for some reason the main character irritates me. She is young and very annoying to me. I like all of the hot males in the book! They are awesome! I hope their girl gets an upgrade in the next book though.

The overly formal manner of speaking is very much out of place. No 17-18 year old speaks like that. Emma is quite annoying in the little things like she changes her appearance to attract Raven, but insists he us out of her league etc. There is so much dialogue that seems forced and unnatural. I managed to read 15 chapters but could not finish the book as reading it became a chore.

I enjoyed the book. There were some over descriptive areas. I do wish the female in this book would learn how to kick ass a little and stop being the damsel in distress all the time. The female emma, needs to grow up. This virgin blushing all the time is getting old. Woman up and freaking handle ur 7 men. Stop being a wilting flower over sex.

Good but could be better

I would loose almost 40% of the book which is immature, adolescent mush up, make a book out of remaining part and spice it up. The first half of the book was unbearable. The second part with reverse harem was much better.

....

I read a lot and have never had a problem finishing a book... Until now. The story line was ok but the way it was written had me all kinds of crazy. I couldn't tell if it was a diary or story or what. And it used the phrase "as you well know" entirely to often.

It was alright but I felt a bit confused with a few characters as it seemed their personality changed throughout the book. also the storyling could have added a little more drama or action.

It gets better

At first I kept putting the book down Emma just seemed to immature for my liking but i don't know I just wanted to know what happens since I'm always ready for a good reverse harem book it did not disappoint it started to get better after a few chapters in now I can't wait for the second book!! Emma is a teenager whose father walked out on her so she sufferes major insecurities from it . She goes into her last school year looking different hoping to catch the eye of her crush . Well she ends up catching the eye of her crush as well as a few others but what she doesn't know is their deepest secrets that are soon to come out that concerns her and her family. What are those secrets ? What's going on? Will she catch the eyes of the others? Will she return those feelings or will she run blind into something she doesn't quit understand ?

I really fell in love with the idea of this book, but execution was kind of a problem. There was a lot of repetitive sentences within the same few paragraphs and this really detracted from the quality of the character and book in general. Even though I was interested in the plot and what was going on with the character's lives, I felt like there was a lot of unnecessary sentences and character speech. With a little editing and revision, this book could be really amazing, and even with these issues while reading the book, I am interested in seeing that the next one holds and how the author will continue the story line.

Great story needs an edit

I'll start with a positive, I loved the general story line and our main personalities.
I struggled when at times it felt like three paragraphs in a row or every couple of chapters were repeating the same information.
Another positive is the fantasy world beings and the variety you have provided. I do love me some variety.
The BFF is quite a frustrating character to have around, she almost feels like the fly buzzing in the background being annoying (though this could be her purpose I'm not sure)
Towards the end I could feel both character and author growth and started to find myself finally able to get lost within the words. The story was great but could do with some editing work.

Can we say way to much explanation!

I believe this could be a wonderful series, but there is way to many descriptions about the same damn thing. I'm all for descriptive writing, but there is a limit. You read the same thing described in multiple ways over and over. Shorten it a little and it would be a much better read.
