True Mates #4

Witch's Mate

Rate this book
***Can be read as a standalone werewolf shifter billionaire paranormal romance book***

The next arc of the True Mates Series begins with San Francisco Alpha Liam Henney and witch Lara Chatraine as they fight their growing attraction.

When a chance encounter with Liam Henney sparks instant lust, Lara Chatraine discovers that the Lycan Alpha may be her True Mate. Lara Chatraine was born with special powers, but it comes with a price: a curse, one that would put Liam in danger if they pursued their attraction. Determined to protect him, she resists his advances and keeps the knowledge of their true connection to herself.

As Alpha to the most powerful clans on the West Coast, Liam Henney has a duty to his family and his people, not only to protect them, but also to produce the next Lycan heir. But, weeks after their passionate encounter, Liam can’t get Lara out of his mind. The normally constrained and reserved Liam has had one thing on his mind – to possess the bewitching beauty and make her his.

When members of the San Francisco clan turn up dead, suspicion turns to the bloodthirsty mages. Liam and Lara must work together to stop Master Mage Stefan, and take him down before he harms more people and exposes the existence of Lycans and witches to the world. As Liam breaks down her defenses and stokes her desires, can Lara keep him safe from her curse and defeat the mages before it’s too late?

Witch’s Mate is a full-length (over 70,000 words) werewolf paranormal romance with explicit love scenes, naughty language, and shifter suspense action with guaranteed HEA and no cliffhangers!

Although it works as a standalone romance story, this book takes place in the True Mates series. Though not necessary, I recommend you read the rest of the books to understand the world and the main plot.

Finally, Liam gets his girl!

I’ve been waiting for Liam to get a girl since the first book when he was talking to Alynna at her introduction party. Throughout the series, he’s struck me as a sweet guy who deserved his happily ever after. I am thrilled that he got that with Lara. Speaking of Lara, I loved her character and her parents. I loved that we got to see her and Liam interact with them.

There may have been editing issues, but they did not take me out of the story. Usually I highlight typos and other editing issues; however, I don’t have a single highlight in the book. Granted, I was speed reading the story (series) while I on a trip and dealing with horrid insomnia so I may not have been paying much attention.

I suggest reading the books in order to get the most enjoyment as the overall storyline arc does build with each book. In each book, the main couple gets their happily ever after and the immediate issues are resolved.

Writing quality: Good
Violence: Some
Sexual content: Some
Narration: Third person
Plot: Some twists
Mood: Light-hearted, Suspenseful
Pace: Fast
Character development: Semi-developed

I have read everyone of these books in this series. I love each and everyone of them. This one might be my favorite so far.

Lara and Liam go at it hot and heavy in an elevator when he is visiting from California.
But when he returns home neither of them can seem to stop thinking of the other.
Lara's not sure but Liam might be her True Mate.
When tragedy strikes in San Francisco Lara and another Dr must help Liam.
Who knew Liam was such a dirty talker.

Omg my heart was broken. Good thing I only read HEA's.
  It was mended pretty quick.
 I truly do love Vivianne.
Even though these are standalones I suggest starting from the beginning.
I can not wait for Jade and Sebastian's book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Witch’s Mate Book 4 of the True Mates Series
A Billionaire Werewolf Shifter Paranormal Romance
by Alicia Montgomery
What a Fantastic and engaging story! It's a great magical read! I enjoyed reading these characters. The twists and turns in this story makes it a really awesome read. Their journey to love is wonderful ,sexy , funny and sweet. I will just say that this story is a awesome journey of how and when feelings can grow and how things can change from a simple miss understanding to so much more. The story has a few twists that will keep you reading and there are certain scenes that will leave you completely breathless, as the story changes pace it will keep you engage and interested. This story provides a in depth look at the details of love and romance that will touch your romantic heart. Alicia Montgomery writing style is romantic, entertaining, mature, she is a great storyteller, It's so unique and creative with a stream of consciousness that feels so realistic. Her characters are interesting, engaging, intelligent, witty and lovable. Alicia puts heart and soul into her stories, she creates male heroes that's so enticing that you will want them to become your book boyfriend. She makes her heroines sassy and smart that it's easy for readers to identify with the characters. I completely fell in love with Liam and Lara! Lara is the type of witch that I love to read about. She's mature, sassy and intelligent with a no-nonsense attitude, she is born with special powers, but it comes with a price: a curse, one that would put Liam in danger if they pursued their attraction. She has loved before and he had a deadly accident, it's left her feeling utterly alone. But she and Liam are fated mates! When a chance encounter with each other sparks instant lust, Lara Chatraine discovers that the Lycan Alpha is her True Mate. Liam is Alpha to the most powerful clans on the West Coast, Liam Henney has a duty to his family and his people, not only to protect them, but also to produce the next Lycan heir. But Liam and Lara fall in love and share a joy and contentment that neither has experience before. Unfortunately, their life circumstances throws a wrench into their relationship and growing love. The miss understanding tears them apart and each of their lives are thrown into a unhappy spiral. It's hard to get a feel for how things are going to end and if they are going to get their HEA, that's in itself is unique in comparison to some romance novels. I'm excited to read what the next book is that she writes, but I know for sure that's it's going to be exciting and entertaining! This is a 5 star read and so exciting and that it's difficult to stop reading until you finish. I voluntarily reviewed this book. Because I like sharing my thoughts with my fellow readers.

Liam and Lara's story is great. It is curious that many of the true mates are not Lycan. It was interesting that Lara was aware that she might be a True Mate but that Liam really hadn't considered it might be a possibility. Really liked that even though witches and Lycans aren't supposed to like each other Lara's parents and her coven accepted Liam from the very beginning. I enjoyed the watching their relationship bloom and wonder if Liam is correct about the sex of the baby. Look forward to the next book in this series

A witch and a wolf get in an elevator…

Sorry could not resist.
Enjoyed the story. Main Characters were wonderful. Especially her parents and his dog.
Do wish there was more about San Francisco clan.
One unfinished part was were they were going to end up living. Is she going to start new coven in San Francisco or are they going to live in NY?

Okay, I know I clearly haven't really been enjoying this series. But I was actually kind of looking forward to this one (in the scheme of this series), because Liam has been one of my favourite side characters since the first book. And when Lara was introduced, I thought she was interesting. So their book had the potential to be great. Unfortunately, it just, well, wasn't.

Liam was such a disappointment in this book - in previous books, he'd been such a loveable little himbo (and we all know how much I love a himbo), but in Witch's Mate he randomly became an asshole alpha male. Not only did this not fit his character, but I just wasn't here for it. For the most part, I liked Lara - she was a bit boring but at least a multi-faceted character, and their romance together was too cute. But did there need to be so much drama? Like, Liam literally turned on Lara in 0.5 seconds when he thought she'd betrayed them - his brain literally went no think. And then the drama was all resolved in like 2 seconds. Why can no one act like a rational adult in this series?

I don't really have much more to say in this review because again, this book was basically exactly the same as the first three in the series (and could, once again, use an editor). The exact same things happen at the exact same time - true mates, pregnancy, hiding the pregnancy, etc. Alicia Montgomery has essentially written the same book four times (and I wouldn't be surprised if this continues for the rest of the series), and passed it off as a series.

The San Francisco Alpha and the New York City witch get their story! And while I loved not only the change in scenery (a lot of the story takes place in San Fran) but the new characters (Liam's family is amazing, and I'd like to get to know more about his mom), there was one thing that struck an off note for me. Beware going further in this review: Here Be Spoilers.

Liam, the San Fran Alpha, has always been a quiet, thoughtful guy. But as soon as he scents his True Mate Lara? He turns into a pushy, possessive jerk whenever he interacts with her. Granted, all of the guys in this series have a serious problem with letting their loves be their own person. But things get wrapped up in the end, with a bit of give-and-take on both sides. (Typically, the guy loosens up a bit, and the woman lets her guy feel protective...but nips it if it gets too crazy.) With "Witch's Mate", Liam goes from sweet to Raving Id Monster in no time flat. It's a strange shift in personality that could have been laid out better. But the "will they or won't they" problem they've got is an intriguing one, and plays out well.

Plus, there are more new characters, and deeper dives into secondary ones! A bad girl who I'm sure will end up making good (note: I've read Book 5 already, so I know she does), and we get even more on Jade, the sweet Lycan scientist who gets her own story in #5.

All in all? Absolutely a worthy read. But not the typical 5 star review I've been giving this series. Still really digging the series though.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Gets better and better

The fourth in this series does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lara and Liam figure out that they are destined to be together.
Lara we got to meet in book three but I really enjoyed getting to know her character more. She's sneaky and in a guarding her heart kind of way. She didn't want to let on what she knew about her and Liam. She has an uphill battle I feel internally and with Liam. She had so many fears and reservations to overcome.
Liam I thought was a butt sometimes in this story. Alicia wrote him well as sometimes I was screaming 'you idiot'! When he finally took a stand and gave a chance to what he and Lara have it made my heart melt.
Jade's personality made perfect sense as being a friend to Lara. They fit together so well and I felt were bringing out the best in each other.
Lara's Mom was hysterical. I loved her. Again all the old characters are back as we get to watch them on this journey.
The battle is only getting worse and Stefan and the mages are coming with full force. Alicia did an excellent job of describing Lara's feelings and what she saw with the magic. It gave me the willies.
While this can be read as a standalone I highly recommend the whole series.

I really enjoy this series and recommend you read them all in order to get the most enjoyment. It can be read as a standalone.

Lara is a witch helping the NY alpha understand magic so they can fight their enemy. She does not expect to fall for Liam who is the alpha from San Francisco. They have a very strong attraction. His mother expects him to marry a shifter not a witch. She fears based on her past that a relationship between the two could be very dangerous. Lara tries to keep him at a distance but they can't seem to resist each other.

Liam is a character I have wanted to see more of since he was introduced. He is a good guy and Lara is a great choice for him. She is a strong woman who can be the mate he needs if she is willing to take a chance. You understand her concerns but are sad to see her keep a distance between them. The attraction is so strong. I really liked her mom who was not afraid to say and do what needed to be done to help her daughter. There are some surprises again that keep the story fresh and exciting. I am looking forward to reading more.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the characters and getting to know them better. I love how the books are interconnected but stand on their own. This book could be read as a standalone but if you've read the previous books you get some extra enjoyment as you already know certain characters and get to catch up with ones from previous books. I loved getting to know Lara better and finally getting to see Liam find his true mate. We get to know more about magic and what is going on in the research lab, (introduced in previous books). There was plenty of action, intrigue and romance/relationship building. I love how it was all blended together. These characters are great and I love expanding my group of characters as well as my knowledge of them. The book flows really well and kept me hooked the whole time. The sex is explicit and it fits both the characters and the story. I loved how the story developed and it had a great pace. The story is well written and I can't wait for the next one!

Finally a story for Liam . Liam is the San Francisco Alpha that befriend Alynna back in book 1 . A lycan in which Alex was jealous of . In this story , Liam finally met his fated in the form of a young witch . Lana, who is also Cady's cousin , is working for Fenrir Co. along with Dr.Cross in the research to end the mages .The elevator mishap pushed both Liam and Lana together in a heated frenzy . Lana, having believed she's cursed, tries to stay away from Liam as she was afraid for his life . Liam who was already smitten at this point tries to pursue her relentlessly .However, both of them must work together in order to save Jade Cross, who was kidnapped by a group of men under the order of Stefan .The mages are also getting bolder, controlling the humans as their puppets and risking the exposure of the supernaturals .Overall, even though i enjoyed reading this, I feel like this book is more of a filler to prepare us for book #5 with the kidnapping of Jade and the reintroducing of Sebastian . Plenty of fluff/romance scenes and Liam Henney is the most sweetest cinnamon roll .

The only ability they seem to ha… The only ability they seem to have is having kids these don't pull you into the story like they could. I can't even think to give these a higher star than two because it seems like the author has missed the point in these being paranormal reads. When you take that in and review the story without the paranormal these come off as plain and boring. Liam moves to NY to explore a relationship with Lara, she doubts it from the beginning but still falls in bed with him. Of course she ends up pregnant and because she's always had her doubts she pushes him away and he lashes out at her in return. He's changed his mind before the end of the chapter and the next, you guessed it, their back in love and the marriage soon follows. Without the paranormal these are boring, the little given; shifting, potions and being able to get pregnant on the first go round is lame. I'm going to try and finish these out seeing as though I picked them all up and one time, maybe I'll take a break and comeback. Either way I can't see these getting more then 2 stars.

Cady’s cousin Lara is a blessed witch, meaning very powerful witch, believe’s she’s cursed since her first love was killed. She witnessed it weeks before the actual day he was killed, every detail down to the color of the truck from her dreams to the day. So Lara keeps her heart guarded from loving another. Remember in Grant’s book where he and Frankie has their office quickie that got the whole floor in sexual lust and when Lara and Liam was in the elevator right before Alynna told Lara not to go to Cady’s office? Well the alpha lust hit them and that’s when Lara knew Liam was her True Mate but she tried to fight the feelings. She knew but never told anyone.
Liam can’t stop thinking about Lara and their first kiss and tries to find ways to be near her even when she leaves to head to her parents coven suburbs he follows, now her mom knows but she also keeps quiet. Unlike the other stories Lara insists the Liam has condoms when she gives in to her desires..... that’s when the dreams will be close to appearing to Lara. What will she do know.....?

This visit with the Lycans of NYC ultimately takes us to the Lycan clan in San Francisco for the next beautiful True Mates romance. We met Liam in the first book as a potential suitor for Alynna, Grant's sister. He was absolutely swoon-worthy then and is even hotter in this story. We met Lara through Cady in book 2, and is she ever something! The Witches haven't always had a "good working relationship" with the Lycans, so expect some controversy and attitude adjustments as the possibility of a Lycan/Witch True Mate match becomes a reality. As we've come to expect, there is plenty of action and suspense that reveals the bad guys and lets our good guys do what they do best. In True Mate fashion we also have all the scorching hot love scenes and deep emotional connection that make this book, and this world, stay with the reader for a long time.

Honestly? I was fairly disappointed in this one. I've been enjoying ripping through the True Mates series, and was genuinely looking forward to when Liam would become one the MCs. I feel really cheated, though. What happened?

It seems that the story was torn between following Liam and Laura, and developing the overarching series plot dealing with the mages. Each of the True Mates were supposed to be able to be stand-alone books, even if much better being read in order. I don't think that was the case here.
Neither the relationship nor the clashes between groups was strong enough on their own, and yet together they seemed weaker.
I'll still go on and read #5, hoping this was just a one-off weak story, and not a devolvement in the series.

A nice series

Witches and Lycans have never got on very well but things are changing. Now that there are mages on the loose, killing not not Lycans but normals as well, some witches and Lycans are co-operating. One of these is Lara, daughter of Vivianne, one of the local coven leaders. Lara is working in the Fenrir building assisting Jade the Lycan scientist. Obviously, she is meeting male Lycans Dailey but it’s not until she meets Liam Henley, Alpha of the San Francisco pack that she realises how dangerous they can be - to a girl’s heart that is. Liam just can’t seem to get Lara out of his mind but really, she’s a witch!
But the mages aren’t going away and this couple have more on their mind than romance.
Quite a nice read.

Unfortunately, for no particular reason, this outing with alpha Liam Henney and witch Lara Chatraine feeling a mate pull they try to deny and excuse until they cannot, it didn’t appeal to my taste. I think Liam has more depth than Lara but they’re both good characters outside this outing and the read should have worked for me. I mean Blood Mage Stefan and top minion (though she doesn’t think she’s a minion) Victoria are laughing maniacally in the background as a diabolical scheme succeeds; suspicious character, Meredith, makes a grand entrance, plus Liam and Lara go to extremes to avoid and connect with each other. Maybe it’s too incestuous with only the characters that started the series being around! Whatever reason, I didn’t care.

Great series with witches and wolves. If you like paranormal romances then you will enjoy the series. It does have some steamy scenes so for mature readers only. Each book adds on to the prior one. You can read out of order but it will spoil some of the prior stories then.

We get to learn more about Liam, the San Francisco Alpha and Lara, a witch working with the NY Lycan pack. From the start Lara knows Liam is the one for her, but a fear from her past will cause her to do anything to stop the romance from happening. Liam can't stop thinking of her and will pursue and protect her at all cost.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of the book.

The true mate series is literally the only paranormal I read. Alicia Montgomery has me so hooked into this story. The mages are getting more daring and dark. It's kind of scary at some points Also, Liam and Lara are Sexyyy together. Wow. I like the new addition to the group, Meredith. She's spunky and funny! There are some surprises in this book, especially near the end. Oh I can not wait for the next one, she needs to write faster! I thought I guessed who's story it would be but now I'm left with a couple possibilities. LOVE LOVE LOVE these books. That is all.
Oh I received an exclusive arc, lucky me!

Another excellent book for this series

What do u get when you mix witches and my fans together. So hot passionate and steamy sex scenes. Lara and Liam are made for each . He is a real gentleman, sexy and strong Alpha. She is a strong, powerful, independent, and blessed witch. She knows they are True mates from their first kiss but she is scared. Lara will do and try anything not to fall in love with Liam. But Liam as other plans concerning the two of them. I am starting the last book because I can't wait to see what happens next in the True Mate series. Will they catch the evil images. Will they all live HEA

This is a hard series for me to grade...I have found the plots interesting, but am having challenges with insta lust sex/borderline consent when Alpha Males who are generally nice/supportive get hit with True Mate lust. I am also having trouble with all the Heroines in the series who are also generally confident, capable and nice and then suddenly flip to pissy drama queens when stressed, so I find I am reading the books for the stories, but I am skimming over the sex stuff and the pissy scenes. Final Rating: 2.5 Stars

I think this book might have just caught me at a bad time...which is a bummer because I really enjoyed the first 3.

I can appreciate and understand the fact that Lara wanted to protect Liam by staying away from him. But...if she recognized that they were true mates, why in a million years would she think that Liam wouldn't know...or at least figure it out. I have the biggest pet peeve for characters who withhold pertinent information for no good reason. If she told Liam about the curse and still fought the attraction then I think I could have gotten into this way more.

Magic, Mayhem, and Cursed Mating

Liam the alpha of San Francisco has fallen hard for Lara, the witch of New York but she fears true love will begin a curse that ends his life. But fate pushes them together as the battle with blood magic users takes a new turn. No one resists the mating pull for long when the innerwolf chooses his mate, but can Lara thwart destiny?
I enjoyed the fast pace, with a great world built with shifters , witches, and evil sorcerers. The plot that spanned coast to coast had surprising twists and quirky characters.

This is the first book I read in this series.. and What an awesome book!

I LOVE Lara and Liam ❤️
They were amazing! And their chemistry was off the charts!
I wouldn’t mind getting another book with them as the main couple 😉
Maybe a book after the baby is born and they went back to San Francisco .. so we could see them as Alpha and Lupa!

I can’t wait to go back and read this series from the beginning!

Really good read

This is a good follow-up from the last book. I really enjoyed the story and the development of the characters. I really like how things to shape and I also like how the main characters remain strong and they didn't go wavering all over the place acting like they had no intelligence at all despite their positions. I like that they maintained how the characters would Elevate over time. I also love the ending. I can't wait to read the next in this series!
