Book 8 in #1 bestselling Wishes Series To a wannabe princess like Fiona Black, Jean-Luc Décarie is storybook perfect. He's incredibly handsome, worldly and wealthy beyond measure. Best of all, he loves her. At first, her dreams of a fairy-tale ending with her Prince Charming seem to be back in her grasp, but she soon realises that all that glitters is not gold. The Décarie name is mud... and through no fault of his own, Jean-Luc's crown is rusty.
You know what I love most about GJ Walker-Smith's writing? Her ability to make the story feel like music. The way in which she writes is almost like a score. With ups and downs, peaks and valleys-I can almost hear the melody as I go along. It's perfection. Her writing skills are superior to so many and yet, so humble at the same time. She has a gift, a rare gift and I'm ever so glad to be able to review an ARC for her second instalment of SILK QUEEN.
I've been waiting a long time to get into the heads of both Jean-Luc and Fiona. What makes them tick? Why are they the way they are? What shaped and moulded them into the people we meet in the SAVINGS WISHES series? I get it now. I see it all. It's crystal clear and I'm forever in love with their LOVE.
I think I'm more infatuated with Jean-Luc than ever before. And I also feel I'm finally able to understand what make Fiona tick! Why she is so hard on Adam in the future and why it is so important for her boys to ensure the loves of their lives are special. Fiona is a romantic. Dead romantic. She's loved her whole life believing in the fairy tale, and with a man like JL, why wouldn't you?!
From all of the supporting cast, to our two MC's, Walker-Smith's characters are rich and colourful and pure perfection. I enjoyed every moment and couldn't stop from laughing out loud at certain points. Even my snorting made an appearance!
A gift, that's what this is. And I'm so glad I was a recipient of her words. I cannot wait for Stone Roses.
I've been highly anticipating the second part to Jean-Luc and Fiona's story because these two have a very real place in my heart. My feelings for this couple started with hate and ended with love through the first five wishes books. Now to get their meeting and journey in the 80's first hand has turned out to be fantastic reading with perfect humour and some serious swoon.
Jean-Luc has really opened up in my imagination in this instalment of SILK QUEEN as I found him to lack self-confidence and belief. The younger Jean-Luc is somewhat different to his later self and I'm beginning to really see now how much Fi had to do with that. Fiona herself flourished in book two, with her confidence finding root and advocating for what she wanted in life. I found myself mentally cheering her baby and bigger steps.
There is some amazing dialogue in this book with more than a few laugh out loud moments. I cannot begin to do justice to Melinda Lazar, Thierry Decarie and others. What really made me stop was the resonance between Fiona's interactions with Thierry and how similar they were to Charli's early interactions with Jean-Luc through SECOND HEARTS and STORM SHELLS. It felt like a full circle and I loved that. GJ Walker-Smith writes these characters in a way that the reader is completly transported into the story.
SILK QUEEN has fulfilled a spot in my love for this family that I didn't know I needed but now can't do without. SILK QUEEN 1&2 are not heavy books and I value having books that I don't have to labour through the angst to get to the other side. I know GJ can write like that but this walk on the light, humerous side was a delight.
What a brilliant ending to this couple's beginning. I loved taking a trip back into the '80's and seeing how the Queen came to fruition. No matter how life may have changed for them in the years to come, I loved reading how they found each other and developed their relationship and formed an unbreakable bond.
Fiona Black come from a middle class broken family and on a day she was hoping to bump in to the Queen, she met her very own French prince. And what a dashing young man Jean-Luc was! Just the accent alone would have me running away with him. This book picks up with Jean-Luc heading to Manchester to find the girl he stubbled across in London. After reading her diary, he knew she was a keeper. He just had to convince Fi he was the man for her too. Their humble beginnings in London were a treat, and when they moved to Marseille, things only propagated for them.
There were so many things to love about this book. The writing style keeps me captive until the end and I feel so drawn in that I am a secondary extra watching it all unfold. The characters are rich and delectable, I want my own French prince. There is plenty of romance and humor, just a perfect balance. The epilogue had me giggling with Ryan's early high jinx! Thank you GJ for giving us this insight to a beautiful couple, and showing us exactly where Ryan and Adam get their wit and wickedness from. Can't wait for Stone Roses.
Silk Queen book 2 sees Fiona’s rise to royalty come to fruition. As she moves to London from Manchester to find her inner self and spend time with Jean-Luc (who so reminded me of Adam), she realises that quite possibly those she aspired to be like weren't quite as nice as she thought them to be. Jean-Luc also comes to the realisation that London may not be the place for him. As usual, I was hooked, the writing (told in dual POV) was Faultless, the story was funny (so many laugh out loud moments) and it depicted Northern England in the 80s perfectly, transporting me back in time (after all I actually lived it). With wonderful supporting characters (I loved Nellie, she was hilarious), the story gave me a better understanding of Fiona and Jean-Luc, I loved this story so so much, the series is wonderful. GJ Walker-Smith is a go-to author for me, if she writes it, I'll definitely read it, in fact I think a series re-read is on the cards. A full five star read, I can't praise it enough.
I loved seeing Jean-Luc and Fiona's early days. They are two characters in The Wishes Series that I've wanted to know more about and GJ Walker-Smith made it happen. You can see how these younger characters grow into the older adults they are, and what may have made them interact with Charli how they did in the throughout The Wishes Series. I really love GJ's way with words, she always manages to transport me into the world of her characters. I can't wait to read whatever she gives us next.
5/5 stars. What a great way to finish off the Queen and Kings' story. It gave me great insight to how Fiona and Jean-Luc came about. There is so much humour in there, its not a GJ Walker-Smith book unless you can have a quiet chuckle, and there was many. I never want this series to end, want to read more! If you haven't read the Wishes Series by GJ Walker-Smith, DO IT NOW! you will not regret it!!
As always, G.J. Walker-Smith did not disappoint. I Waited for this book for what seemed like forever, was it worth it? Definitely! I loved this book so much, I love this series so much, I love these characters so much, in case you hadn't noticed, I love pretty much everything about this series! If you are thinking of reading it. PICK IT UP. You won't be disappoint, I wasn't at least. I loved how this book tied in with characters we already knew. I also loved little things that we see mentioned, that happen latter! Especially, once Charlie comes into the picture... Oh all the little Easter eggs, were totally priceless!!! I just really enjoyed this book. Now I have to wait for Stone Roses. And I'm already having with drawels!
Spoilers I loved how even though I knew how this story was going to end, I still was surprised by some things. Like for instance.. They didn't get married until after ADam was born???? I mean what? Did I just miss that, and it was mentioned in the books, Because that totally surprised me! I Loved When they mention that Ryan called Adam's dimple a hole in the cheek, because Charlie is constantly doing that, That was just so perfect. And the Bad word that Ryan said in French!!!! That made me smile so big, as if I need another reason to find Ryan adorable! I honestly loved this book.... I can't say enough good things about. This isn't to say that I found nothing wrong with it, I did have some problems with it... However I was happy enough with it, that the good far out weighs the bad! Loved it.
I had been dyyyyyying with anticipation for Silk Queen Book Two and Walker-Smith delivered in spades. This book was utter perfection and I was equal parts speed-reading because I couldn't get enough and at the same time forcing myself to slow down because I just didn't want it to end.
I have such a deep appreciation for Fiona and Jean-Luc having read both Silk Queen books. They weren't always the arrogant, condescending characters we got to meet in the earlier Wishes books and it was enthralling to meet their younger selves and learn how they came to be their grown-up versions. I've always (always!) had a soft spot for Jean-Luc and seeing him sweet and vulnerable and romantic just took my love for him to a whole new level. I find Fiona's character fascinating: the way she purports herself is in direct contrast of her roots and I think that's precisely why she is the way she is.
Ahhhhhhhhhh I just want to shout out and make everyone read these books! The world Walker-Smith creates is utter perfection; beautiful settings, flawed characters, hints of humor. I just can't get enough! Can't wait for the next book from this insanely talented author.
I love this author! She is hands down my favorite of all time!!
I loved the story of Jean-Luc and Fiona. Just reading it gave me goosebumps and brought a smile to my face. If you’ve read this series you are very familiar with these two! To see how they got together and the road they faced made me chuckle. It was awfully similar to Charlie and Adam and it also filled in some questions for future things that happen in the series.
Silk Queen is another wonderful continuation to Fiona and Jean-Luc's love story. G.J. Walker-Smith has a way of drawing in her readers with the magic of her words, stories, and making even the non-romantics believe in the power of true love. Any fan of the Wishes series needs to read this!
I'm so in love with this world...Décarie World!! <3 To see the beginning, the start of something so gorgeous...I loved it!! Jean-Luc and Fiona's love story was wonderfully satisfying, all the way till the happily ever after!!
Loved it, loved it, loved it. Loved getting a look how Fiona and Jean-Luc began and they did not disappoint. I have re-read the Wishes series and can't wait for Stone Roses.
Was thrilled that this was FINALLY released. I loved the story between Adam's parents and how we get a little more understanding of why Fiona is who she is. Although I am struggling to understand her being so cold to Charli when she herself struggled to fit into the lifestyle at the beginning.
This would have received another star but the continuous delays with its release date drove me mad. I understand things happen and books get delayed, and although frustrating I get over it. But this book was delayed at least 5 times that I'm aware of and by the end I was very disappointed.
