When the top headline of the book reads "Are you smarter than you think?," you know that the author is a very smart guy himself.
Why I'm saying this, because, I only discovered myself in my mindfulness practice in a retreat that, people subconsciously think highly of themselves, no matter what type of person they are. That's why Lord Buddha says, "no love is greater than self-love (among those who are yet to be Enlightened."
This book was clearly written for all of us who are yet to be Enlightened. We tend to believe that may be we are really "smarter" than we think....NOT! Well, to tell you the truth, I always fall for a brain-development, IQ improvement kind of book since I was a kid. I was known to save up my lunch money to buy those books at least once a week. I'm really a helpless case.
And that bad habit did not go away when I became adult. I kept searching and searching and still found myself inadequate. The book series by Tony Buzan, like other self-help guru, excited me for a while, then I went back to the same searching mode again.
Today, 7 years later after I first read this book and 5 years after I first went to my first Vipassana or Mindfulness meditation retreat, I look at the book in a totally different way. I found that it is nothing more than trying to "wake you us to the senses" which is barely touching on the surface of vipassana is! Lord Buddha has done much more empirical work and his paradigm is much more profound. This book might get you excited for a while, may get you the kind of "success" that is worldly, but it doesn't deliver you out of suffering.
My advice, learn how to do mindfulness meditation, by all means! It doesn't mean you have to sit and close your eyes all the time. Mindfulness is all about waking up all your senses in every waking moment, under the proper paradigm that Lord Buddha taught us about. He has clearly led us a path to get out of both physical and mental suffering, once and for all. After I did mindfulness and got immediate benefit and know what it can and will offer, this book, as well as other self-help book based on the same concept, suddenly becomes "kiddie stuff!"
