What's a "Speed Reader"?
...

That's one fucking damn good question... I could put it as the program which shows the truth in all it colours... like it or not. That's the truth!

(For 6 weeks I read this book... the first few days was slow and the last two days I read it with 350 WPM, sometimes 450 WPM and as a last card in my pocket I played with the card 501 WPM)

An ambitious female detective must confront political intrigue, corruption, a moody partner, a disturbed and disturbing ex-husband while she endeavours to undo a child pornography ring. It is choppy and I remained detached from all the characters. The cops all have attitude, relationship and drinking problems. None of them inspires confidence or interest. The first half meanders and then solutions come fast and furious if rather illogically. It feels scattered and rushed at the end. Not my favorite.

So, the first half of this book was pretty good, but by 3/4 through the author was rushing to tie up all the loose ends before the end of the book. Others might say it was fast paced, but I disagree; associations being made without the backup involved. For example (without including spoilers) the identification of the murderer of Sophia's ex, the culprit of the porn publishing. Things were dropped on the reader out-of-the-blue.

By the end of the book I was just a bit disappointed.

Great read, couldn't put it down

You can't help but love the heroine of this story - straight by the book. There were so many twists and turns, and the finale was so unexpected with a two punch combination.

This is a book abou the dark world of underground extreme porn. It has some very dark and disturbing moments. But despite it's content it's a very enjoyable read with some clever twists and turns as well as some very tense moments. 4/5 stars will definitely keep an eye on the author for future releases!

This is the beginning of what I hope will be a lengthy series for Detective Sophia Benedetti. “Dead Drop” is a fantastic story, which takes place in Seattle with detectives from the Seattle Police Department and a host of other fascinating characters. Detective Benedetti and her partner, Detective Tommy Stinson, find themselves in the midst of a multifaceted mystery filled with murder, child pornography and a complex virtual world in which the bad guys operate. I don’t want to give away any part of the story or the surprises, but it’s a mixture of suspense, darkness and is filled with unexpected twists and turns. To the author’s credit, the dialogue in the story is what makes this book amazing. The banter and lingo used between the characters gives so much insight as to who they are as people. The exchange was so smooth that it felt for me as if I was in the room with the characters as I read each line. The complexity of the story is handled beautifully. There is so much happening with different people at different locations and times, and yet somehow the author manages to keep the information flowing, bringing them all together for a dramatic conclusion. As a point of comparison, I found the main character, Detective Sophia Benedetti, to be on par with Lee Child’s Jack Reacher or Patricia Cornwell’s Dr. Kay Scarpetta, and the story to be equally exciting. Highly recommended!
