They call me Ghost for a reason. Silent and in the shadows, I don't make my move until I am absolutely sure of everything.
Four years ago I was sure about Jenna. My best friend's kid sister had grown up into a spitfire I couldn't resist.
One night we stopped resisting...
We promised we'd keep it a secret. It was a one-time mistake, but we'd put it behind us. Jenna left but I kept my word.
Jenna tried to get out of our corrupt town, but it pulled her back in again. Now she needs help. She needs protection. I'll do all of that for her, if she'll just shut the hell up and let me. She can even keep all of her secrets, except for one...
JENNA
The Lords of Carnage MC has haunted me from the moment I was born. No matter how much I try to get away, they are there -- waiting to pull me back into the life that stole my father, my mother and then my brother from me. The ghosts of my past keep rising from the dead.
Now the past is stirring again and all I want to do is run away. I'm back in the world I fled, and the secrets and lies of my whole family are about to be laid bare. But it's not just me anymore. I've got my little boy to look out for, too. I’m his only family. And his father has no idea he exists.
I swore I would never go back to the MC. I swore I would never make the same mistakes again. But making mistakes with Casper Watkins is too hard to resist…
USA Today bestselling author of alpha males, feisty females, and smoking hot romance.
Small town girl in the big city. Incurable romantic. Hopeless optimist in a realist's body.
Owned by two cats.
A sucker for a bad boy with a soft center.

Ghost was the first book I've read by Daphne Loveling and the first book in the Lords of Carnage series. I can't wait to not only read the rest of the series but to also read other books by Loveling.
I loved the start of this series. I also loved both the main and secondary characters. They were all interesting, intriguing and worthy of their story being told.
Ghost, Cass Watkins, was the Sergeant of Arms, for the Lords of Carnage MC. He was the typical big, strong, sexy alpha. He never expected to settle down but once he recognized his feelings for Jenna, he owned them and claimed her as expected of any alpha. Jenna Abbott was beautiful, independent, single mom to 4 year old Noah, little sister to the Lords MC VP, and daughter to the town Mayor.
Loveling quickly caught us up to speed with Ghost and Jenna's past while laying the foundation for the main storyline. I loved that Ghost and Jenna didn't fight their attraction. I also loved that their relationship didn't create loads of drama. The drama stemmed from the series storyline and not necessarily the relationship. I only had one issue with the direction of the storyline within their relationship; however, to refrain from posting spoilers, I won't detail it here. It wasn't enough to deduct stars; however, I question the plausibility.
All in all, Ghost was well written with a well developed storyline and well developed characters. It also set the stage for the series perfectly. I'm expecting the foundation of the MC storyline to carry over within each book.
I can't wait to see where Loveling takes us in the series. Hawk is next and I'm hoping Angel will follow shortly after.
I’m a sucker for MC theme books, it’s a guilty pleasure. Lol. I was looking forward to this series, the GR ratings are good as well as the synopsis but it missed the mark for me. The characters and plot were bland, very lackluster.
The writing style was ok but the main characters were dumb
- Jenna (h) did not tell Ghost (H) that he got her pregnant and when they got back together again after 5 years, she still did not tell him in their first few weeks/months of dating - Ghost and Angel (jenna’s bro) kept a secret from the mc. I thought mc members are supposed to be super loyal to the club?!
OMG This was so awful that it was hilarious!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂
Jenna(stupid twat) has a steamy night with her brother's BFF, Casper(idiot biker), the night before she leaves for college. The only thing we hear about that is Cas's memory of, "I broke the lock on the motor home, pulled Jenna inside, and took her once, then twice, the two of us writhing and clutching at each other until we were both drenched with sweat and exhausted." LMFAO Seriously what kind of sex scene is that?!?! I wish I could say their sexcapades get better, but they don't. Anyway - Jenna flunks out of college after she finds out she's pregnant.
5 YEARS LATER this twat comes back to town with her kid, broke, and moves into a run down apartment her dad found for her. She gets a job at the MC clubhouse as the bartender and her and Cas pick up like they were never separated. I would usually love how quickly they got to the naked part, but the sex was so crappy that it didn't matter. Plus, LOL, she took her damn kid with her to the MC and one of the club ladies babysat while Jenna worked. Then!!! The same club girl would continue to keep the kid at night so she could go home with Cas and they could fuck! LOL Like holy shit. Then Cas starts spending the night and spending a lot of time with Jenna and the kid, growing close. All the while not knowing it's his kid. Then these two confess their love and SURPRISE she's pregnant again!!! LMFAO and he still doesn't know the other kid is his! SOOOOOO he says, "well it's ok because I love Noah and I can be his dad". So then she flat out tells him that hey this is your son and his response is, "man she's been doing this all these years on her own. She's so strong. I'm so happy." SERIOUSLY!! WHAT THE HELL, DUDE!!! She has kept you from your son for 5 fucking years and you're just going to be like oh ok all is good. I nearly DIED when that happened. Here's some of the other ridiculous things that happened:
There's this part where a bad man breaks into their house and she's yelling at the man to get out of the house when the stupid kid wakes up. She tell the kid to go back to his bedroom, and then the BAD STRANGE MAN says, "no, you stay here, kid" and that's followed with, "Noah stops in his tracks, not knowing who to obey." WHY WOULD YOUR KID BE TEMPTED TO GO TO A STRANGE MAN YELLING AT HIS MOM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?!?! Omg.
Her and Cas are fucking and she thinks, "he finds this spot that he's found before that I didn't even know was there." LOL Can you make sense of that?!?! if he's found it before - then how did you NOT know it was there??? did he find it on someone else and told you about it????
Plus, the book doesn't give you any actual story. Pretty much my summary is the whole story. It jumps through all the steps so fast that you don't even develop any feelings for the characters.
If you want to read it for comedic purposes, I would recommend it.
AUDIO: I listened to most of it, then checked out the book so I could highlight the hilarious parts. Troy Duran narrates for Cas, which is hot. Jillian Macie narrates for Jenna and she's AWFUL. Seriously hate her voice.
59% of the book and the bitch did not tell the hero that they had a child. After weeks of much sex and she did not have the decency to say anything. No sympathy for her. What a bitch!
Update 7/8/17 - One of my spring favs is free for a few days on amazon in preparation for the release of the next book in the series: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XKV...

I do love finding a new MC series. This one looks really promising. As the first book in the series (each is a standalone about a different couple) it has a lot of work to do to set up the background and introduce secondary characters.
Cas (Ghost) and Jenna hooked up nearly 5 years ago. They had liked one another for ages and finally connected for one night before Jenna left town. Now she’s back and once they reconnect passion runs high.
If you like MC Romance, second chance romance, best friend’s sister or secret baby tropes, then this has it all.
I'm not sure what to say about this one. There are a few other reviews that summarize very well what went wrong with this book.
It was quite a mess. It did have potential.
Let's see: - I'm not sure why she flanked her college - I'm not sure how she was so attracted to such a manhoho - I get why she thought he might not be happy with having a kid, but girl, get the f*ck out of your head and ask for help when needed - His reaction to founding he is a father was so out of character - They forgave her father!?? just like that!? the f*ck was that part of the plot!? lazy writing , that's what it is, it just didn't make sense
I might try the next one. Just to be 100% sure this series is not for me. ✌️
I am confused. The book was leading up to a gang war or an internal struggle for power inside the MC and all I get is an epilogue 4 months later?!? With nothing explained?!? WTH?
It started off really good then the plot hit a wall and all we get is a HEA? Does the author think the readers are that dumb, that the ending outcome is all that we want? Argh!
Maybe a three is too high, but I didn't enjoy it for part of it.
The FMC annoyed the shit out of me. She has no problem hooking up with the dude again while not telling him about his kid. She lets them bond while keeping the massive secret and she has no reason for not telling him, she just doesn’t. It’s so fucking frustrating.
DNF 10% it reads like a story my students would write as a creative writing piece—trying to sound cool and exciting but just getting lost in their own head instead of actually saying anything. Glad it was free for ‘stuff my kindle day’ and I didn’t waste much time on it.
I really wanted to like this book as there’s so many in the series that I wanted to read them all. But it’s really not happening. I can’t get past the fact that she had someone’s child and thinks it’s ok to not tell them! To keep it from her son and his dad. She has a huge chip on her shoulder about his dad being part of a bikers gang, but he didn’t belong to the mc when she had sex with him and fell pregnant! So why didn’t she tell him? She fobs her son off when he asks about his dad, and when he gets upset about other people having moms and dads. She’s a bit of a screw up! Not really likeable. She has a son to look after and she’s moved back to her hometown without a job and renting a run down flat that she can’t afford, as well as not being able to afford to feed her son, she can’t pay the rent. If she’s so broke, why didn’t she move back home for her sons sake? If you think this review is boring it’s because NOTHING HAPPENS in this book!!! It’s going on and on, and I really hate remembered sex scenes!
This wasn’t bad. For an MC theme it was definitely on the tamer side but I found the story enjoyable enough. Jenna and Ghost, who is Jenna’s brothers friend, had a secret fling. Jenna left town with a secret only to return 5 yrs later. Ghost is now SOA for the local MC and Jenna’s brother is VP. The story has some drama but not over the top.
Did I read the same books as the 5 star reviews? There was no spark or magic in these stories; nothing super interesting or unique to hook you in. There was also a LOT of internal rambling thinking paragraphs. And so MUCH telling and not showing. A lot of common sense sentences that weren’t needed, like explaining, “I walked over…”. Sex scenes were so – so. A whole lot of going down on the female first. So much smirking. Not a lot of violence, but a little here and there. It was a very mild, small town MC vibe. Books 1 and 2 just STOPPED. Like you’re reading and then just BAM, it was over and moving on to the next book. So you were left thinking, oh…okay… There’s no real plot line / story development. Tiny bit of drama in each one, but nothing really planned out or mysterious. No cheating drama. They do have club girls.
Book 1 Jenna and Ghost How dense does a character have to be to not do basic math or ask questions? Did NO one think to ask Jenna who or where the kids father was? Also, how did Ghost not do basic math and wonder if he was the father? You slept with Jenna roughly 5 years ago. She has a boy who’s about to turn 5….umm this didn’t throw up any flags dude? She just kept waiting and waiting to tell him also. Even after seeing how good he was with Noah.
It had a slow beginning, fast middle and slow end.
Jenna (main character) is so weak. She wants to do everything on her own and be the strong woman she believes she is. With her “I can figure it out on my own” attitude, she gets old really fast. She cries a lot too.
An annoying thing is that she waited almost the whole book to tell Cas Noah was his. She goes on and on about wanting to tell him but never does. Her thoughts are so repetitive.
How can a child be so annoying? He is four years old and is so infuriating.
I always love starting a new MC series I just tend to love the characters and story lines in them - so I was looking forward to reading this book and series.
Ghost was a nice read but not particularly memorable, the MC war which starts in the book was definitely a background story and it felt very unfinished and I was quite confused about it by the end of the book.
The hero was the predictable alpha male that you would expect in an MC novel but I didn't quite understand how he didn't recognise his own kid - that didn't sit right with me. I also didn't like how the heroine left telling the hero about his kid until so late in the book and I didn't really understand his reaction either.
What saved this book for me would have to be the secondary characters like Angel - I cannot wait to read his book!!
I definitely think I will continue with this series just for the other characters.
I love a good MC read and my library had this one available to borrow on audio, so why not? (Thanks so much to the author and/or publisher and/or producer for making this widely available!)
This one did manage to grip me right away with its fresh-start vibes for a female lead who seems to have escaped from a bad situation. That POV alternates with an honorable ex of hers, who has worked his way up to club VP. Sparks start flying as soon as they lay eyes on one another again …
Some of the qualities this book packed that kept me intrigued:
🏍️ A shady landlord (more like: slumlord) 🏍️ Strong male lead 🏍️ Second-chance steam 🏍️ Secret baby 🏍️ A shady father (the FL’s) 🏍️Lots of angst 🏍️Long-standing secrets (hence aforementioned angst) 🏍️Action 🏍️Extortion 🏍️Violence (and for a while the promise of it) 🏍️Betrayal
Things I’d change:
🏍️ Whenever we’re in Ghost’s POV, prior to he and getting back together, ALL he talks about is his package and its ever-expanding state. According to this book, dude was just running around with the ‘tightening pants’ problem, 24/7, at the mere thought of her. It was a bit hard to believe, and … author could’ve used a small fraction of the amount of mentions she did and still very much gotten the point across.
🏍️ Some of the steamy scenes and dirty talk could be cheesy at times.
🏍️ It’s 100% predictable, every single little aspect, every detail, everything I think should be a plot twist has been done many, many times before and there’s no way to not see it all coming.
🏍️ Plausibility, at times. I don’t want to share spoilers, so I won’t get into this too much, but there are a few details that just don’t really work.
Overall: I enjoyed the gist of the plot, the angst, various conflicts flying about, characters I love to hate … but it’d have been better without the steamy stuff, only because writing those parts doesn’t seem to be a strength of this author’s. Or perhaps if they partnered up with someone for those parts … something. This author either should either improve their craft, or possibly just write violent, action-y MC-reads, without the steam and romance.
In this instance, removing the romance and steamy scenes would improve this read. Having them in does nothing but compromise plausibility and add a cheese-factor, because of the way they’re executed.
As it stands: 3 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Were the romance to be improved upon vastly, or just removed, it’d probably go up to 4 stars, because the other aspects are good. I do a ton, just about all genres, I could take or leave romance, but if it’s there, I’d prefer it be done well.
I’d maybe be open to other reads from this author, down the line, maybe her craft will improve as she goes on, or maybe she’ll stop trying to write steam and romance. But for now, I’ll pass on exploring the rest of her catalog.
Audio: The narrators were good—I’d listen to them again, though likely not in this series. 4-star performance.
Jenna is a single mom who is down on her luck. She never finished college and has been fired from her dead-end job. She is forced to return to her hometown where her family can help her. Her dad is the mayor of her hometown and has connections. He arranges for her to have a cheap apartment when she refuses to move in with him. The town has a MC that helps control the town, Her brother is the VP of the club. After having a hard time finding any job, Jenna is offered the job of bartender at the MC club. Jenna is reluctant to take the job since Ghost will be there. She had hooked up with Ghost 5 years ago and ended up pregnant, She never told Ghost that he was a father, Ghost is a loyal member of the MC family. He really enjoyed being with Jenna five years ago and wants to see her again. He is worried how her brother will take any relationship with her. Working near Jenna frequently brought back the old attraction and they are an item again. How will Ghost react when he finds out the truth about his son? This is a good romance story with only a little MC. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
*2.5* Decent cheesy fun, but wasn't overly impressed. Standard second chance MC story.
I didn't understand the h's motivation in this story at all. How could you not tell someone they were a father for almost 5 years?! Also, how stupid were all of these other people they couldn't see his son look just like him...
Ranting notes that have very little to do with the actual story. I know it's a running theme in the MC book universe, to make club women less than human beings, but could we please stop this? Why do we need to make OW look ok bad to raise the fmc up in the eyes of the hero? (not to mention the fact that the H slept with all these women and he's not made to look slutty and desperate) As far as I know, the only author that has successfully strayed from this theme, is Autumn Jones Lake. She features one of the club 'ladies' in her own book, Tattered on My Sleeve, book 4, of the Lost Kings MC book series. Not my favorite of the series, but still a more humanizing portrayal of a club bunny.
******I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book****** Ghost is the Sergeant at Arms for the Lords of Carnage MC. It is an astonishing and unique start in the series filled with pride, greed, deception, betrayal and second chance at romance. Once again, the author did a fantastic job weaving and intertwining this story that grasp the reader and demanded their full attention until the very end. I loved the different directions taken to describes each character reactions as they seek answers to the perplexing situation unravel around them. In the end, I felt that Jenna, Angel and Ghost was left with unknown answers for the perpetrator actions. Jenna Abbott and Casper (Ghost) Watkins was a great couple together with adorable Noah and truly deserved their happiness in Tanner Springs. I will not spoil your reading pleasure but I hope you read this book, you won't be disappointed by this authors writing technique.
DNF - 68% To be honest I don't like reviewing DNF books but I need to tell people what they should expect when they read this book. The synopsis is totally misleading because it says that Jenna is fleeing because she is endanger however that is not true. She left her previous location to return to her home town because her ex-boss got handsy then he fired her and she needed financial help.
Another point is that Jenna fools around with Cas (Her baby Daddy) for a few months without telling him that he is Noah's father, that is so selfish and it's so strange that she "forgot" to mention it. And then she realizes she needs to tell him because she sees how close that are getting...I was not a fan of Jenna at all.
I'm upset at how disappointing this book was since I was really excited to read it because I love MC/Biker books.
I’ve been trying to be nice with my reviews, but sometimes you have to be brutally honest. This wasn’t complete crap. The reason it has such a low rating is because it’s severely underdeveloped. The plot was rushed. None of the characters had any personality. The MC aspect was only a background setting. Nothing really MC themed happened except for about 3 church meetings. Also, the conflict made zero sense.
Nothing good here. Didn't like the writing, there was no story and the characters were often idiots and not likable. It's very repetitive with all the heroine's "I've made mistakes, upon mistakes, upon yet more mistakes", then she keeps making them. Not to mention her constantly moaning about not wanting to be indebted to her father, or the MC etc. None of it was even slightly enjoyable.
