I absolutely recommend this book for beginners to identify the birds that live around them. So easy to use - especially the little map that shows the birds’ range by season. Today I identified six different cool birds wintering on the Columbia River using this book. Much better than relying on the Internet because you can quickly compare the bird to other potential candidates ... making it easier to confidently identify your fluffy little subject.

While the idea of "reading" a field guide is not exactly relevant, I have read through this guide enough to know I really like it. I have been a birder for 40+ years and have seen many books (and apps) come along, and while many have (and share) important features, this book wins me over with its site-specific listing (Idaho/Oregon/Washingt0n) for hard-to-find species.

One of the best on-going references I have, and our most used and recommended kitchen window book. It has helped us identify a lot of birds (Lazuli Bunting!) and find out more about their behaviors. My favorite bird to spot is now the Bewick's Wren (but there are so many great ones).

Skimmed through the book. Definitely a good pocket encyclopedia I’d keep around and compare with photos I take on trekking trips

It is much harder to thumb through a birding guide on your phone but it's handy to have in your pocket!

Though I don't have much experience using field guides, I found this one extremely helpful and interesting. I rely on this book, and have relied on it for a few years, for quick info dives on a specific species or long study sessions covering many. Pictures are included, along with descriptions of habitat, range, breeding habits, status of endangerment and more. I recommend this book for any birder in the PNW.
