In story # 1 Young Henry loses his mother aka the Western Oracle to a violent death when he is but a child. He leads a impossibly long and very lonely life due to a spell his mother placed upon him before her death.Henry over the years grows in the legendary figure known as Bear Blackboots.

In the third stanza Heinrich leads a expedition into a strange and mysterious land where along with his men he and them will be put to the ultimate test of survival.

In the fourth story Shanti Pathena Laude learns a valuable lesson from her father at a early age.

In the final story we learn how Viper Sandes raised a formidable army in the lowliest of fighting pits.

I usually can't stand it when a series has between-book novellas, but this series has made it one of my favorite aspects of the story. My understanding of the history of the world and characters grow with every individual story, which is exactly what a novella should do. I look forward to seeing what character stories we get in the next origin chapter!

I fell in love with the main characters from these stories during the main books of the series, so enjoyed learning more about their pasts in these tales. The stories in this collection make a great addition to the series, as well as being entertaining reads in their own right.

If you love this series like I do, you must read the addendum books to the main ones that gives you more insight of your favorite characters! In fact I recommend reading these books as it will help you understand why a character behaves the way they do.
