Visiting my hometown for the holidays so I’m going through my backlog of comics I left behind. I believe I got this issue as a gift with a big stack of older superhero issues, so I haven’t read the previous Cloak and Dagger issues. This is also my first Cloak and Dagger comic Yipee. Though I’ve known of their existence for a few years now. I’m not used to 80’s comics, don’t know why I’ve not got aorund to that era yet.
But I did notice that there’s alot of explaining, something that people who read all the isssues will find annoying. But for me who hasn’t I was like oh thank goodness for telling me what’s going on.
Also there’s religious themes in this, caught me off guard. I don’t think I’ve seen religion featured in a superhero comic, but it’s a big part of this issue.
I think the story was kinda uninteresting, I was more into the characters. It seems like I landed in the middle of some major character arcs.
I was pretty into these characters already idk. I’m easy to please. I love cloak and dagger’s dynamic. I really want to read more of them. Also Mayhem. I believe she’s a forgotten character (not a big Marvel nerd so I might be wrong), but I also really liked her. Even though I’ve never seen her before. Cop who came back from the dead with poison powers, also like her design it’s funky. Idk she’s fun.
I think the themes covered here really interested me like man I didn’t know you could talk about that kinda stuff in an 80’s marvel comic. I mean it’s not crazy but it’s still like surprised me. The bit where the priest argues with Cloak and Dagger was a good scene like dang religious commentary? Crazy. I mean like I’ve read comics older than this that tackle religion but like I didn’t expect to see it in a marvel comic.

This feels like an issue setting up conflict and tension for later (which is why I’m kinda invested). But like there is a fight so you get your superhero punching bad guys fix. It’s really just Dagger angsting and trying to stop the bad guys. I think it was enough to get me interested in the characters at least.
It’s hard to review a random issue in the middle series so I guess I’m just gonna use this review as a diary to scream my thoughts.
