Come.

Take a moment to delve into tales from the dark side, have fun with fantasy, dabble in dystopia, and court danger in a little science fiction.

These tales touch upon death, grieving, war, fresh starts, hope, courage, change, choices, and encouragement.

And then, after all that, you’ll find the poems.

From the lonely echoes of an empty house to the soaring heights of unexpected love and joy and learning to live as free as clouds and water.

For each of us, a moment encompasses a lifetime and, yet, passes in but the blink of an eye. In but a moment, everything can change. And in this very moment, life beckons in all its potentiality.

When the shadows fall, what will you do?

I read this book via an Amazon-US KINDLE Unlimited download.

My first encounter with Harmony Kent had been when I’d read/reviewed her book “Slice of Soul,” which had been a collection of her poetry. There, like here, the myriad items contained in this book need to be absorbed into your mind, and if any emotions start to appear, then you must listen to your heart and meditate on whatever you’re happening to be feeling at that moment so it can become real for you. These tales run the gamut from being encouraging to resolution to death.

This time, Ms. Kent takes her readers into the realm of being more gloomy/sinister as these tales are where everything is essentially unpleasant or bad. If this is not the situation her readers can experience an entertaining romp with some their imagination or even woo some science fiction perils.

For having given her reads a collection of short stories and poetry which can’t really be rushed into reading, I’ve given Ms. Kent 5 STARS.

I have read several books by this author and can vouch that she is a fine writer with a very strong handle of the word and an impeccable use of it.

Moments, her collection of short stories started with some familiar shorts that I have read before, but one left me wondering about the state of the author’s mind as it was hauntingly so unclear. In the Seven Days, the author soliloquized with herself throughout. Some of these monologues were so subjective, they didn’t carry me along.

By the time I came to Arvum, the stories started to pull me in. Arvum was a great story about survival. From there on to the end, I had some very pleasant, interesting, and entertaining reads.

The shorts ended with a series of short poems. I am not a poet and do not really understand the mind of a poet, but these poems revealed the author more to the reader. I could feel and empathize with her struggles and could understand her search for peace. The poems really helped me to know the author better. From now, I will begin to pay more attention to poetry! In the whole, this was a very pleasant read.

Moments is a collection of art with short stories and poetry that are sure to move readers to their core. Although this collection can be read in one sitting, I encourage all to savour each piece for its unique, reflective, and profoundly engaging form.

The collection holds twenty-one short stories and thirty-seven poems; all engaging in their unique form. I’ve read several stories in other anthologies, but it was a pleasure to revisit them again. My favourite is The Jewel in the Mud. The raw emotion and tranquil beauty in this piece is exquisite and bleeds from the page.

Author Kent never disappoints with her skillful, soulful allure of enticing, thought-provoking words. This collection has something for everyone. A collection I continue to revisit and highly recommend.

In its Grip

MOMENTS by Harmony Kent cannot be read in one sitting - I did at first, but then I went back to savour her words, especially her poetry which is meaningful and thought-provoking, gut-wrenching, painful, yet hopeful and memorable.

Her short stories on the other hand, almost acted like a breather aid, refocusing my thoughts and enjoyment of reading brief moments in life's journey. A highly recommended read, sometimes short and sweet, but mostly deep and full of meaning, something to ruminate on from time to time.

Author Harmony Kent caught my attention when I read FINDING KATIE - a powerful story of finding one's self. MOMENTS is a glimpse into our interior life - of light and dark, of longing and letting go, of fear and trust. My favorite part of this book was the poetry because Kent's artistry with words left me speechless. Sometimes the lines, such as this one: "neither one of us looking for love both content to live and breathe one another", gave me pause; but other lines, like those in Blindsided, brought me into my own heart.

Isabelle is a fourteen-year-old girl. She's on the run from her abusive stepfather. She hasn't told her mother about what happens when she's at work. Isabelle sees no way out anymore and badly wants to kill this mean man. When she hides beneath a willow Isabelle finds help in the most unexpected place. What will she do with the knowledge that she's gained?

Isabelle is just one of the characters you'll meet in Moments. Harmony Kent's stories are dark, but always hold a glimmer of hope and light. She addresses topics that most people have dealt with in their lives, for example negative thoughts, grief and illness, but also second chances, choices and love.

One of the poems that I felt deeply in my soul is about dementia. My grandmother is suffering from this terrible disease and this poem brought me on the verge of crying.

In My Shoes

Footprints in the dust
the traffic of life
rubbing them away

Wandering
back in time
no longer present

A stranger wearing my shoes
each step erases
a little more memory

Harmony Kent has written beautiful stories and poems that made my mind go into overdrive. She encouraged me to think beyond the literal content of her stories and made me contemplate the deeper meaning of her poems. In a Letter to my Future Self she writes: 'Those that matter are the ones that love you come what may'. If you could have written a letter to you future self what is the one thing that you would've written down for sure? I loved the questions I couldn't help but constantly ask myself while I was reading Moments. Normally I'm not into short stories very much, but I loved reading Harmony Kent's collection. When I'm sending a postcard to someone I always like to personalize the card by using a fitting quote. I'm sure that I'll consult Moments on many occasions for the poems and the messages they contain.
