With the Shadows from her past hot on her tail, Del Bellator is committed to growing her magic. That means hunting demons and stealing their powers, a job that’s as risky as dancing with the devil. But she’ll need all the power she can get if she wants to defeat the Shadows, so she’s willing to take the risk. While out on a demon hunt, she spots her boyfriend Roarke’s long-lost brother. He’s the only person who could tell her what the Shadows are up to. But only if only she can catch him.

As she and Roarke set off to track his brother, things get darker and deeper than they’d ever expected. The Shadows have hatched a world-ending plot with Del at the center. Worse, they’re smarter and stronger than she and her whole team combined. It’ll take everything they have—and more—to find a way out of the Shadow’s web, particularly when Del learns that she’s been prophesied to fail.

Narrator Review: Laurel Schroeder
Distinguishable between characters: 5 Stars
Impersonating opposite sex: 5 Stars. She is one of the few female narrators that I think does an excellent job in this.
Accents: 5 Stars - very small Scottish brogue part.
Overall enjoyment of Performance: 5 Stars. Laurel Schroeder is one of my favorite narrators and I highly recommend audiobooks with her as the narrator.
Recommend audible version: Yes.

Story Review:
This is not a standalone series. You will need to start at book one because each book is picking up right where the last one left off.

These books seem to be one adventure after another. Del, with the help of Roarke, has a goal/challenge to accomplish in each book that will ultimately help her towards the end goal, and that is to defeat the shadows so that Demons can not run free on earth.

In this book, Del and Roarke track down his brother and find that he has been cursed. With hopes that is the reason Roarke's brother went bad, they now have to track down a cure for the curse. I thought this would be the only challenge for book 4 but we actually get part of the big battle with the shadows as well. The shadows were able to create a new challenge for Del that she needs to end in book 5 and save earth.

On to book 5....

Well this was another nonstop book that just pulls the reader in. Like a juggernaut the adventures keep coming as the author mixes fact with fiction to give her readers a paranormal series like no other.
Del is on a mission to outwit the Shadows that are hunting her but luckily she's not alone. Seeing her interact with her 'sisters', her friends and now her lover Roarke is always fun but this time the author has them catching up with Roarkes brother but he's not an ally or is he? Del is being manipulated in such an insidious way that it's impossible for me to say too much but I can say that she will be tested more than once and it's a jolly good thing she has those around who are determined to have her back.
I love the crazy mixture of paranormal , historical and even mythological ideas that all comes to glorious fruition in this series. The author often has me googling sights and legends as she brings life to the adventures her treasure hunting 'sisters' face. Whether it's stories from the wilder parts of Florida or lost settlements in Peru and don't get me started on what her idea of hell is! Yes there's always something happening to get the readers heart pounding. This edgy series is a delight to read and every book is a guaranteed gem. Read in order and enjoy the magic that is The Seeker books
A copy of this was provided for me which I have voluntarily read and these thought are my own honest opinion

Roarke has managed to rescue his brother with the help of Del and her friends and comes to know that he had been cursed and was doing the bidding of the Shadows. He becomes essential to their crusade against the Shadows. The situation gets more complicated as the Shadows con Del into setting their evil schemes into motion. Rogue demons now have access to their world and even though she has managed to get rid of half of the Shadows the other half are speeding up with their dastardly plans.

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the author for voluntary review consideration.

I love that point in a series where you feel you know the characters so well it is like catching up with friends - no need to remind yourself of who is who, the world is familiar and comforting (if deadly and dangerous :-)) and the backstory is as familiar as parts of your own life. The Dragon's Gift series has come that far for me and has reached top favourite auto buy status.

There is a desperation to Del in this instalment that is a little heart breaking to witness, she has few clues and gets landed with more problems, but in her usual unique style she faces them head on and learns from each experience, with her family at her back. Roarke is ever present and is becoming her rock in his own very gorgeous way. They have a wonderful blossoming relationship, and I also love seeing how well integrated Aiden is into their 'family'. If it weren't for the fact a demon would probably turn up, I'd love to hang out with them in P&P :-)

If you've got this far in the series you already know how brilliant these books are, if not you're missing out on a real urban fantasy treat and I suggest starting with Ancient Magic and enjoy.

***4 ‘With a little help from my friends’ Stars***

And were back in the crazy world of the crew from Magic Bend as they put their heads together to find a way to help Del defeat the Shadows and their goal of opening a portal between the worlds so the demons can be set free.

I must say that this was my favorite installment of the series, so far anyways, because it felt more settled to me. I know that’s a strange thing to say because the Shadows are still wreaking havoc and Del is still working to gain more power in order to defeat them, but the secondary storylines that are woven into the main one are either resolved, like Roarke and Del’s relationship or they become resolved, like the whole what is going on Roarke’s brother deal. With those having been dealt with the focus is truly on how to defeat the Shadows and for me it allowed me to truly focus on just that and enjoy watching the pieces of the puzzle come together. And I must say that I really liked how everything came together and where things ended up at the end of the book.

As always, I really enjoy getting lost in this world that the author has created and this one was no exception. I loved hanging out with everyone and seeing how their relationships have evolved along the way. There were a few surprise twists tossed into the mix and I liked what they brought to the story and how they were resolved, if they were resolved that is. While the ending isn’t necessarily a cliffhanger, it does have me wanting the next book sooner rather than later, so bring on the next installment!

Magic Wild by Linsey Hall
Dragon’s Gift : The Seeker #4

Another action-packed adventure for Del, her half demon boyfriend (Rourke) and her besties!

With demons to fight, continents to visit, secrets to uncover, a lover’s brother to find and a whole lot more this is a great addition to the Dragon’s Gift series. The gang all make appearances and with only one more book for Del I am eager to read book 5. I also wonder how Nix’s story will unfold in the books to follow.

Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.

Who wouldn't want to go gator jumpin'? Um...not sure I would but it's was a blast reading about Del doing just that. I absolutely love the family togetherness and the love throughout this whole series. Del is a kick to get to know just like Cass was in her stories, I can't wait to learn more about Del and her gifts as well as when it's Nix's turn. Linsey Hall really knows how to capture and hold a person from being to end.

Cruel predictions

As the story gets closer, the enemy is much better defined than the mysterious "Shadow". I thought it was pretty cruel of Aethelred to tell Del that she would fail at one thing. At least by the end of the story she knows that one failure and now the rest of her endeavors will be successful.

In Del's case, this failure will lead to her success, along with her friends and family. I'm onto the last book in this series.

actually 2.5 stars. this book was unremarkable. not too bad but also not that good.

question: if nix was a conjurer, why can't she just conjure money?

Recap:

Del and Claire was out hunting Telenec demon who ate the mayor so the Order told Claire to kill it while Del wanted its telekinetic power. The demon went to a gambling den and there, Del saw Caden, Roarke's criminal brother who was also half-demon. when Caden saw her, he immediately ran, using his new power to teleport. but Del's objective was to kill the demon so she let him go and stole the demon's power. Roarke and Aidan had been looking for information about Caden and found out that he had a hideout in Florida and he would brought dampening charm and freezing potion to capture him. so they went through the swamp of Florida, riding on a boat, met THE bigfoot (del got kidnapped) and arrived at a town where supernatural bad guys holed up together.

they went to a guy named Willy to find more information about Caden. Willy told them where to find him and they went to Caden's house. Nix came in first in phantom form but it seemed that he could sensed her and attacked her. he could hurt her in her phantom form (like he was transferring some dark magic) and he made her phantom for a bit gray but she easily got rid of him and immobilized him with one of the potion.

but he easily recovered. caden and roarke got into a fist fight while del quickly made a shackle. when they were about to leave, the town people tried to stopped them and attacked them. but the friendly gators helped them along with the incoming skunk ape (the bigfoot's name?), they easily escaped and went to roarke's house to meet with del's sister along with the blood mage sister.

Mordaca and Aerdeca said that Caden was cursed, he was forced to do things by whoever put the curse. also, the curse was decaying and the more he fought it, the faster it decayed and eventually kill him. he also transferred some of the curse to Del and if she didn't get a cure, she'd be like him. but the cure was somewhere in a society of half-phantom called the Incate that already extinct in Andes mountains. fortunately, Del had the power to bring back the past. and they found out that these people like a rare obsidion in red or green.

they left the next day to Peru, pay 10 grand for a boat and llama, journeying through the plane full of reed monster that couldn't be killed, meet another guide, hike up the mountain full of stone path traps, arrived to the Incate's settlement, drunk the translation potion from connor, and brought back the past. everyone there was in phantom form. they easily traded with the healer (she said if the victim wasn't a phantom, they only need to drink it while a phantom needed to kill its caster).

when they were about to leave (cliche time), the healer's husband threw them a sedative and captured them, brought them to the emperor and planned to sacrifice them. fortunately, Del still got her phone and the communication charm and called her. but the jailer saw her and knocked her out. she woke up ready to be sacrificed. but cass and friends immediately swooped in to save them. they gave the potion to Caden (now Cade) and he said that he didn't mean anything bad he did, it was all under the influence of the Shadow and yes, the Shadow indeed meant to cursed Del and use her to open a portal on Earth to unleashed all the evil demons. there used to be six shadows but Del killed one of them so there was 5 more to kill.

But Del still couldn't drink the potion (of course she didn't want to kill Cade), so in desperate attempt to control her fate, she asked Claire for mercenary job, and together they hunted 6 demons the next day. Del ended up with two new power, sounds and weather but Del was in this crazy addicted state so Nix and Cass had to interfere before she went mad.

the next day, Del, Roarke, Cass, Aidan, Nix, Claire, Connor, and Cade went to Egypt (wow, that's a correct capitalization there), to find the 'lost city' Zerzura. they were riding camels when 2 giant snakes made of sands appeared. Del easily got rid of them using her weather power, making rain, so they were puddle and the continued to trudge through the desert. it was getting hotter the nearer they were to Zerzura until they finally arrive. but the portal couldn't be opened except if they lit fire, easily done, and they teleported to the Underworld, right to the Shadows' headquarter.

it was not easy, they almost fell to lava and fought 50 winged demons. when they almost killed all the winged demons, the shadow came and threw them a freezing spell and a demon infantry came and took them inside the castle, to the library to be exact. the shadow came, put the video of her past live with her mom about how she would destroy the world (and she agreed) on repeat and try to manipulate her into compliance. she pretended to agree and fell under the Shadow's influence but it ordered her to be taken to the 'chamber' instead. on the way to the chamber, she asked for Pondflower's help, killed her demon guards and seek her friends.

but another Shadow interfered. this one had electricity power (the previous one could immobilize her). with Pondflower's assistance, they manage to (probably) kill it. she went to the dungeon only to be captured by the Shadows again and this time, one of them could control her. she told pondflower to leave when one of the Shadow harmed her but she returned so Del asked her to save the others.

the Shadows took her to a room where there was a machine that could enhanced Del's magic to ruin the barrier between Earth and Underworld. Del couldn't fight the Shadow's command so she had no choice but to make the portal and demon could slipped through, but it took times. The Shadows said that it'd get faster overtime with the machine speed it up.

while the shadows was in ecstasy, Del tried to escape but the Shadow noticed her and commanded her to stop. at that time, Pondflower and friends came but so did the demons. they kept on coming so they decided to fight another day but not before Del attempted to destroy the machine. the dragon phantoms, all 4 of them, came to guard her so she could freeze the machine (it was ridiculous, the Shadows did nothing while she meddled with their machine! SERIOUSLY?!) and after Roarke took one of the stone that empowered it, she destroyed the machine (but not the portal) and they left.

the next day, Del practiced closing the portal with the one on the stronghold where she grew up. she only managed to close half of it but it was progress. now, they only need to find the portal she made on, stopped demons from overflowing into Earth, and kill 3 more Shadows (huh, they were so easily killed).

I really feel like the crew from Magic Bend have become like friends to me. Now they've all put their heads together to find a way to help Del defeat the Shadows, whose goal it is to open a portal between Hell and Earth, so that the demons can be set free against humans.
While I've enjoyed the other books in the series, I'd have to say that this book was my favorite installment of the series because everything seems to be coming together and resolving itself. This doesn't mean that there aren't grave dangers ahead and Del's still working to gain more powers from slain Demons in order to defeat the shadows. Roarke and Del’s relationship seems to be coming along nicely. Also the issues with Cade, Roarke’s brother, seems to have been dealt with, so that Del's focus can be on the defeat of the Shadows. I enjoyed how Ms. Hall is masterfully putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, including he way she ended Magic Wild. I must say that I'm looking forward to Phantom Magic, the next installment in the series.

The book was the same as the others, if you liked them, you'll like this one. I have a rather hard time reviewing it as nothing stood really out.

Del is trying to learn new powers in order to gain enough strength, while Roarke is looking for his missing brother. After capturing him, they realize that Cade was cursed by the shadows and have to go looking for a cure.

While most of the time Roarke and Del are on their own, sometimes it is also a team effort with everyone pitching in. Contrary to Cass' series the contribution e.g. battle is more evenly balanced between Del and Roarke. He feels like less of an accessory than Aidan did.

Going by the Goodreads rating system, I give it three stars, I liked it, the series is entertaining, but there are better series out there.

Loving getting Del's story and this chapter is no different. Lots of action, intrigue, temptations and the fun banter in the group. When Cade joins the group before they get him help he adds to the pile on Del's shoulder. Ms. Hall writes an amazing story with vivid imagery, characters that are strong and keep the story moving. Never a dull moment! Wonderful.

This entry into the series is very consistent with the rest in terms of quality and content. The small romance subplot is PG-rated and enjoyable, and Roarke and Del do have some chemistry. The fight scenes kick ass, although I still don’t understand why no one uses guns. There’s plenty of danger, tension, and adventure; people get caught, hurt, cursed, and so forth. There are always more demons to fight! Money is no object as the love interests are super-wealthy. Also, it’s now Del’s turn to worry about getting addicted to stealing powers.

As usual there are a couple of inconsistencies. If Nix can conjure acid bombs, which she does during a fight in this book, why has she never conjured potions before? And why are acid bombs doable but not other potions? I also still can’t get a handle on Del’s ability to haul the past into the present. Apparently she actually risks changing history, which is not a good position to put yourself in unless you are the most finicky, nit-picking author ever, because otherwise you’re likely to screw yourself over. I’m still not clear on whether the intersection between the past and present clears itself after Del leaves, or not. I’ve seen scenes in these books that seem to give conflicting answers to this.

I’m enjoying this series and I definitely want to find out what happens next. But if the inconsistencies I’ve noted will bother you, or you prefer your urban fantasy a little less formulaic, you might not be as interested.

Consider my rating a 3.5

This series with Del has so much potential, but I constantly feel like I'm being let down.

There are multiple points in the book where Del and Roarke are on an adventure to find something out the people they talk to say "don't do this! you'll bring on the demons/scarymonster/etc..." And of course, they do just that. It's predictable. And Roarke is almost always there to save Del. Can it be more creative?

We don't get any answers on anything from the previous books and I even got confused on whether Del was still considered the "Demise". It's barely mentioned until the end. I also get confused about Nix's powers. She can conjure up anything and you think since she can even do potions, foods, etc, she can conjure transportation charms as well as other charms. But she can't?

Honestly the best part of this book was when Del went demon hunting with Claire. It made sense that she would act the way she would as well as having Nix and Cass help her. I wish there was more of this side of her to show more character development...but there isn't any.

That's what the big thing missing in Del's series. Cass's series had a good amount of it but Del's (as well as Roarke's) falls constantly flat...like she seems to do in every adventure when she's told to be careful.

Del continues on her quest to conquer demons in "Magic Wild." She and Roarke go on a hunt to capture Caden, Clarke's brother. He drinks of dark magic and is working with the shadows. Initially things go wrong when they confront him and he infects Del with his curse. Now Del and Roarke must look for a way to break the curse.

In their search, Del is told that the fates indicate that she will fail at an upcoming task and now she is second guessing herself. She will face a major battle with the shadows and will have to rely on all of her friends and new skills of she has a chance to survive.

Once again Ms. Hall demonstrates her skill in writing action scenes. Additionally, the historical references offers an opportunity for the reader to expand their knowledge of they choose to do so. The characterizations remain strong and the relationships are stronger. There is one more read left in Del's story. I can't wait to see how this will end.

The adventures continue as they gather clues

Rorke, Del and Friends work to gather clues against the shadows and the evil demons. These adventures take them into more danger as the evil demons fight back. D e l is caught by the shadows and forced to open a portal to an unknown location to release evil demons. The good guys seek to find the location where the demons are coming through onto Earth. Del and Rourke travel down south and follow clues to a ghost bar to find the name of the location or a person who knows. As they find an old codger ghost who remembers the name and points out a young lady across the bar that used to have that name. It turns out she's not so young she's a couple of hundred years old as she's fae. She finally admits that not only was that her name but that she knows the location of the city where the evil demons are arriving. Before she can agree to help them a fight breaks out in the bar between the evil demons and Del and Rourke.

Wild magic is right!

Oh this is good. Del has gotten more powerful by taking demon powers and learning to master them. Seems some are pretty handy in the evil abode of the Shadows. My heart breaks for her as she fights to no avail to stop the horrible plan the Shadows have for her. Again we see all is not lost, because enter Pond Flower the hellhound and Draka the phantom dragon and well there you have it. I'm coming up on Del's final book. It's been a great ride so far. I'm glad she and Roarke are finally together in every way. This is why I love Linsey Hall, because she can build to the romance and leave everything to my imagination instead of making the scene so steamy I have to skip pages. Romance minus the pornography makes for a wonderful read! Well on to book 5!

Good

Del thought that learning about her past would help her figure out what the shadows were after. Instead, she finds herself under attack from them, and she doesn’t even know why!

Del battles death defying antics, last minute reprieves, and evil incarnate in this book- it’s amazing how unlucky she is considering how many lucky talismans she is always wearing!
We do get to see some pretty big events in her romantic life, and some big deals with both Roarke’s and her own past.
Lots of action, adventure, magic, and a little romance combine to create an enjoyable, fast-paced urban fantasy.

Another winner!!

Yet another great read from Ms. Hall. I always appreciate her story telling, details within the story and continual movement. There is absolutely no time to be bored. The entire series is a winner and I very much look forward to its continuation. I never give a review that contains a spoiler alert. I don't like reading them for myself so I won't do th that to other readers. HOWEVER, I love the easy relationships in this series especially between Del & Roarke; I think the addition of Cade is a good move. Greatly looking forward to the next installment

Excellent paranormal/magic fantasy story with some romance. This is the ongoing story of Del. She and her 2 sisters are meant to save the world but things on Del's end to from bad to worse. Rourke monitors the demons in the underworld but more demons make there way into the world. The Shadows want Del and her powers but she fights when she can but has had some failures which hurts. The struggle continues as will the story. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Hall.

Wild magic indeed!

This book is really a wild ride for Del. She and Roarke and friends visit crazy places all around the world trying to keep the world safe from evil magical forces. Like all of this author’s books, the characters are very real personalities. Through reading this series, you really get to know the people in them and they become like friends. Of course, this book is full of action and angst and lots of inventive magic. I really enjoyed reading this book and hope you do too.

The Demise

Will Del be The Guardian or The Demise? A seer predicts she will fail a task, but which one? Del is on a hunt for more demonic powers in preparation for facing The Shadow. She needs to find the one responsible for her curse and kill it. Del and company travel the globe to complete the task. Will Del succeed? Or is she truly The Demise?

Looking forward to the next one!

Prophecies can be convoluted

I feel like Del is skirting the edge of discovery with stealing demon powers. Also Athelred (probably spelled wrong) isn't always very helpful. At least there were any really sad parts to this book. Is the amount of magic you can use similar to stamina? It seems like it since they say that the more you practice the better you get and the more you can do. Another form of exercise haha. Great book.

Uh-oh Del's in a big mess!

And Del thought dying and coming back was going to be trouble? This girl has had all kinds of things after her, but these Shadow's take the cake. They've been planning a long time and she is required for their plans to succeed. Lots of twists and turns, with Del suffering a crisis of conscience over stealing gifts from demons, then about Rourke's brother, then . . . Great book.

Fast paced

Del and her friends are running out of time. They were able to get the antidote for the curse and cured Caden but Del needed to kill Caden or the Shadow that originally cursed Caden. Del was not going to kill Caden so that left finding the Shadows and taking care of the one who could control her in order to break her curse.

Loving this entire series but this fell a bit flat for me.

It was just more of the same old, same old and I'm really NOT feeling it with Del and Roarke in the same way I did with Cass and Aiden. I think that 4 books into Del's story I should be getting her attachment to her life partner by now instead a sort of 'friends with benefits' feeling.

Friend or Foe -will it be too late once the truth comes out

Wow! Del has to find a way to defeat her enemy once and for all. If it means using her Fire Soul powers so be it. However there is a fly in the ointment, Roarke's brother. Why is he so hard to find? Watch the captivating chase against the odds for Del. Wonderful read.

Magic Wild is the fourth book in Linsey Hall's second Dragon's Gift: The Seeker series. The shadows aim at using Del as the Demise by having her open a portal to the underworld so that Demons can cross over without being summoned. Del knows that in order to defeat them, she has to build her magic arsenal.
Overall, this was a great addition to the series.

When Shadows from the past reveal themselves, things for Del are not looking great and even though she has Roarke and her Sisters she still doesn't feel capable of stopping the shadows but also failing is something she doesn't want to give in to either. You know what they say though 'if at first, you don't succeed, try, try again' this is definitely a line for Del to remember.
