The Soulmate Chronicles #1

Trusting a Highlander

Rate this book
A clan war stands between them. Can fate bring them together?

After each life cycle, Catherine returns to the heavens for a new assignment. This time, she’ll be born in the Highlands of Scotland, and she’s thrilled to learn she’ll meet her soulmate. Circumstances will try to wrest them apart, but they must stand strong if they’re to live a happy life. There’s one drawback: Catherine won’t remember anything once she’s born...

Catherine is married to Henry Merrill, an abusive Englishman who resents her for her failure to bear him sons. Their one daughter means nothing to him, and though the bairn is sickly, he refuses to send for a healer. Desperate, Catherine ventures into the Highlands alone—intent on saving her only daughter—only to find herself in a life-threatening situation mere hours after she leaves the castle.

Revenge consumes Graeme MacGregor’s every thought. Henry Merrill attacked his castle and slayed his parents and brother in front of him, and he’s intent on paying the man back in kind. Finally, after years of training, he and his warriors are ready to mount their attack. But when he rides to Merrill land to conduct a final scouting mission, Graeme instead finds—and rescues—a beautiful lass facing sure death. The brave and feisty beauty reminds him that there’s a life beyond revenge, but everything changes when he finds out she is Merrill’s wife.

First in a new series, this is a stand-alone novel with no cliffhangers

Didn’t finish this one.

There seemed to be big chunks of story missing in between scenes that would have been needed to get me to understand why people were reacting or feeling how they were. When Graeme gave Catherine back to Henry, I was done with the story. It didn't make any sense that he would do that after saying he wouldn't hurt her but he was okay giving her back to a man that beat and tortured her, knowing he would likely kill he when he got her back? It just didn't make any sense to me.

Great book!

Another great read from one of my favorite authors. I always have a hard time putting her books down. Her characters are interesting people and her stories fast paced.

Loved this book. It's not often the female lead is attached to the wrong guy - really attached, like married attached and she wants out. She has a child she would die for. And she gets to meet her one true mate. Just as she has in previous lives and just as she will again in lives to come. Very intriguing story line.

When I go on road trips, I love to listen to books on Audible. I recently listened to another book by Keira Montclair and loved it, so when I saw that this one was available as well, I downloaded it. Wow! Oh! Wow! This one was even better! If you even remotely like Highlander novels, you will love this book!

This is book #1 in the Soulmate Chronicles, but there is no cliffhanger. It can be read as a stand-alone novel. It is a quick read of around 230 pages, or in my case a 6 hour 35 minute listen. But Keira Montclair packs a lot of story in those 230 pages! Although some of the secondary characters were not as well developed as I would have liked, the main characters Graeme and Catherine were so lifelike and so fully developed I could almost imagine being right there with them. And the little twist of soulmates in Heaven was beautiful.

The story line details are pretty much explained in the description of the book, so I won't go into that, but the love that grows between Graeme and Catherine is outstanding... a bit spicy (just in case you need to know that)... but I enjoyed it!

Trusting A Highlander

Gramme and Catherine's story is one of pain, hate and then a love above all the turmoil in their lives. Catherine has been abused by her Father and then she was sold to Henry Merrill and married to him. She has a child by Henry but it is a girl and he beats Catherine because she did not have a son. The girl must live in the basement/dungeons because Henry hates her. Catherine is only allowed to see Issy when Henry permits it. Issy is sick and Henry will not send for a healer. Catherine sneaked out to go find a healer for her daughter and loses her horse and winds up being attacked by a wild boar. This when Gramme comes upon her in the woods and saved her from a sure death. Gramma brings her to his castle to tend her injuries. This is where I leave you to read this novel to find the whole story for yourself. YOU WILL NOT REGRET READING THIS BOOK. I HAVE READ ALL HER GRANT SERIES AND THE FOLLOW UP SERIES AND WILL CERTAINLY RE-READ AT ANOTHER TIME. HAPPY READING. Keira Montclair is a great author and you can read any of her books as a stand alone. The ending never leaves you hanging wondering what comes next.

Soulmate Chronicles Series Book One

A series with an unusual concept. The characters are in heaven but before moving on, they will live several more lives. Each life they will find their soulmate that they meet while in heaven. The thing is, they won't remember past lives or who their soulmates are, but they will find each other.

Catherine and Graeme are first sent to 1500s Scotland. He is Laird MacGregor and set on a seven year trek for vengeance against the clan that murdered his parents and brother. Catherine is married to that cruel and hateful man.

Graeme is set on destroying the Merrill clan—men, women, and children. How far does he have to go in his revenge for his family and for his clan?

Awesome story well worth 5 stars and another wonderful narration by Paul Woodson whom as also gets 5 stars. Keith's books always teach subtle lessons or provide food for life changing thoughts. I have loved every one of her books an every audible book as well. Easy to recommend, some sex but not too graphic, very well developed characters and plot. Every one of these collaborations between Keira Montclair and Paul Woodson are exceptional. Well wore the price and time since they are all considered do not miss material.😀

I love this author.. if you haven't read any of her books yet ( Do you lived under a rock?) She is one of my favorite... Graeme and Catherine are soulmates.. but life isn't fair, nope they have to jump through hoops... Catherine is married to an evil man... A man that has killed Graeme's family, and because of that he has sworn to kill him and take his vengeance... But Catherine puts a wrench in his plan... This is the first book in this series and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series...

Too stereotypical

The prologue seemed cheesy but the first chapter started out great. Catherine's husband was a creep who punished her in torturous ways. He kept their daughter in a dank basement of the castle. He was over the top evil.

Graeme hated Catherine's husband because he killed his parents and eldest brother in front of him. He vowed he'd get revenge. Graeme was the stereotypical Highlander laird whose only goal was revenge.

I tried so hard to like this story but everything was too predictable.

Loved this story. It isn't often that the lead female is already attached to someone - REALLY attached. As in married attached and looking to get out because it's a horrible relationship. And there's a child involved that mom would die for. Add to that the mates not only find each other in this book, but they have found each other in previous lives and they will find each other again.... Very intriguing.

This was different from all other books. Interesting concept. Happy for Grahme and catherine. It seems abuse is a common occurence no matter what era. Izzy was so cute sounding. The only thing I wish there wound have been more about the births they had. Glad Boyd could come out of his shell. Another great read.

Good Read

Once again, women who are nothing but chattel come to the forefront of this story. Much abuse prevailed throughout history and this time period. Determined to save her daughter from the abuse she endured by her husband, the heroine escapes the castle to look for a healer for her little girl. It is during this trip she encounters her soulmate. A nice love story.

Fantastic Highland Romance with an interesting twist. I loved Catherine and Graeme and all the secondary characters. The story was captivating and kept me on the edge of my seat. Parts were hard to stomach, there is abuse and violence. However, it is balanced with a good amount of passion and love. I am eager for the next in this intriguing series.

Different

This book was definitely not a normal highlander book. The heaven soulmate was pretty inventive. The rest was pretty standard highlander, except I had thought this was going to be an ongoing series of the MacGregor's. But the ending was very surprising. I will read the next book, but I am kinda disappointed. But don't take me wrong, I still liked the book.

I love this book though I did not realize the 2nd book in the series is the same 2 characters reborn into different lives so it is their reincarnated selves again trying to find that happily ever after I am answered and seeing how the characters differ in their new lives from how they did in their lives in this story

I almost didn't finish this book when it began in a setting in Heaven. I'm not into what I call "woo-woo" scenarios. but I stuck it out and by the end of the first chapter, I was hooked. I've read several books by Keira Montclair and I have enjoyed her books. I highly recommend this series. I can't wait to start book #2 of the series!

First book of this series

I've not read any other books by this author but this one was a quick read and entertaining. If you enjoy clan romances and/or time travel-angelic stories, this is good.

Pretty Good Story

I like Keira Montclair's Highlander series and was intrigued by the premise of this book. I thought it was a great story with an interesting plot. Not as steamy as her other books but certainly not a "sweet" romance either.

Great historical romance

I usually don’t care for time lapsed stories but this one was good. My ancestors came to America from England, Scotland and Wales. Things I have read could happen in a book.
