Hi Romance Fans,

My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me. Not those boring history classes in high school, but the history of people. How they lived their lives, what they ate, what they wore, the challenges they faced, what they worried about.

I have recently delved into Historical Cozy Mysteries. My very first one, For the Love of the Baron, a Historical Romantic Suspense novella, spurred me to try a full length, non-romance focused cozy mystery. A Study in Murder released last year from Crooked Lane Publishing, and the reviews have been excellent. The second book, The Sign of Death, released this year and the next book, The Mystery of Albert E. Finch will release in January of 2022.

I've also been busy keeping up with my Regency/Victorian romances. Check out my latest series, The Rose Room Rogues. Four brothers who own a gambling club and find themselves caught in the net of love.

Watch for my new Highlander series, The Sutherlands of Dornoch. The first book in that series, To Deceive a Highlander, will release March 30th.

Take a look around my website and check out some of the books I write, and their lovely covers. www.calliehutton.com

I am not reading what other people are reading apparently--either that or I'm grumpy. I bought this book at a charity event and the author was a lovely person. I really wanted to like her book as well.

However, this just wan't my thing. I think I read too many historical romance novels because this all felt like something I've read before. There is a heroine with no desire to marry because she has her INDEPENDENCE and her desire to help animals! There is a first meeting that is so over the top to be ridiculous and eye-rolling with a cat up in a tree. The heroine also is rude and argues with the hero like she is a child of 15 or 16 because he is such a cad! How could someone be less than charming after being pushed into mud, humiliated in public, and then told to do something ridiculous like climb a tree after a feline he's allergic too? How?? There is a scheming mother desperate for her daughter to marry. There is a hero who is, of course, a rake and dashing and slightly stuck up but still attracted to the heroine and all her loveliness. BUT HE CAN NEVER LOVE BECAUSE IT'S COMPLICATED. Then it is the battle of the sexes as the hero wants to make the heroine into something she is not and the heroine acts like a spoiled child because INDEPENDENCE. And then there are sex scenes...though nothing crazy so that's good. And then despite all the differences, they love each other. HEA.

Maybe I'm just becoming too cynical...yes, I definitely am and this review is unfair...and perhaps this book got a bad shake because I loved the book I read by another author before this where the heroine actually WAS a bad ass. I don't know. I feel bad, but this just wasn't my thing. It was just a bunch of tropes I've read before mashed into a story with two characters I couldn't like. I skimmed/didn't finish it.

Review For: Marrying the Wrong Earl by Callie Hutton 'Marrying the Wrong Earl' by Callie Hutton is book Two in the "Lords and Ladies in Love" series. This is the story of Lady Arabella Danvers and Nash, the Earl of Clarendon. I have read the previous book 'Seducing the Marquess" but feel this can easily be a standalone book. With that said I will updated you on the characters in this book: Nash is the brother of Lady Eugenia Devon who was the Leading Lady in the first book and Arabella was a friend of Eugenia. But Nash and Arabella didn't really mix much at all in that first book. Arabella mother is trying to marry her off quickly due to the fact that her husband...Arabella's father died and left them with little to no money. Arabella doesn't know this part but does know her mother is trying to marry her off fast. But Arabella isn't looking for marriage as quickly and turns the suitors away. The town thinks she is a Odd Girl because she likes to take care of sick animals. Arabella knows it will be hard to find someone will to take on her odd behavior. Nash is the proper Lord who is looking for a biddable wife who is young and can be 'trained' in her duties as his wife. Nash has Lady Grace in mind for that title. Although he doesn't love her he feels she can be brought up to scratch with what he wants. When an odd encounter with Arabella where he is forced to help her get her cat down from a tree he quickly knows she isn't the type of women he would want as a wife. Arabella knows too that Nash is not the one for her too. But an accidentally set up might have them forced to think something else! This was another Great Story by Ms. Hutton! 3.5 STARS.

A rather interesting little romance. The H in this novel is Nash, The Earl of Clarendon and he's the big brother of the heroine Eugenia from Seducing the Marquess. Nash is a handsome and sexy hero but he's still a bit inferior to his sister's studly husband. The heroine Arabella is the daughter of an impoverished late Earl and she has no brothers to inherit her dad's title and estates. She's only got her selfish and manipulative mother who keeps trying to marry her off to senile rich guys, fat and ugly rich guys or skinny and ugly rich guys. All Arabella wants is to be left alone to take care of her beloved pets. I enjoyed everything about Arabella's pets and all the animals she saved. It made a refreshing change to see a heroine with such a giving heart to helpless animals. Arabella has the natural skills of a veterinarian but her fellow aristocrats in the Ton think she's odd because of her love for animals ( stupid f*****s ). I can't blame Arabella for preferring the company of her cute pets to that of these F up snobs. Arabella is very pretty but her lack of a large dowry and her veterinarian hobby make it almost impossible for the younger titled guys to ask for her hand in marriage. They all want a biddable, dumb wife that they can control and Arabella does not fit into that category. That's why her horrible mother has to play matchmaker between her daughter and a set of ugly or senile guys.

The novel starts with one of Arabella's most earnest suitors, an old, obese Earl called Lord Pembroke, trembling on his knees as he holds out his sausage fingers to propose marriage to the heroine. He's sweating like a pig and poor Arabella is grossed out and mortified. I really felt her pain in that scene, but it was funny though ! Arabella is lucky to be interrupted by 2 of her female friends and the Earl of Obesity is forced to postpone his proposal. The heroine then meets the H when she goes on a walk to deliver a healed cat to an old lady. The cat escapes from the basket, climbs up a tree and Arabella asks Nash to climb the tree to get the cat. Nash complies but he finds Arabella and her cat very annoying. He thinks he's lucky that he is never going to marry such a loud mouth upstart like Arabella. Nash has already decided to propose marriage to a simpering, empty headed girl whom he doesn't love but who seems suitable. Nash and Arabella meet at a ball again and this time I was happy to see a cameo appearance by the couple from Seducing the Marquess, especially when that heroine Eugenia reveals she is pregnant with her husband's heir ( hopefully ).

Nash hurries away from Arabella but circumstances bring them together again in a most scandalous manner. Arabella's scheming mother sends her a note telling her to meet her ( the mother ) in the library. The mother also sends a note to The Earl of Obesity telling him he needs to meet Arabella in the library. The mother's aim is to create a scandal and thus force her daughter to marry Lord Pembroke. Nash wanders into the library and finds Arabella and since it is darkly lit in there, she stumbles and he catches her in his arms. Mommy turns up on time with the biggest gossip in the Ton and finds her daughter locked in the embrace of Nash. Lord Pembroke turns up a second later, huffing and puffing ( literally ) because he is out of shape and strenuous activity like walking makes him tired. He is so heart broken when he sees Arabella in Nash's arms that I feel a bit sorry for him, especially after he behaves in a noble fashion by withdrawing his proposal. He does this after Nash proposes marriage to Arabella right then and there. Nash only proposes in order to avert scandal and because the silly girl he had intended proposing to, turns up with her mother and faints when she sees him holding Arabella.

The hero was a bit too stuffy at times but he was a good, loyal man. It didn't have great over the top chemistry between the MC's, unlike the previous novel Seducing the Marquess, but I enjoyed the banter between the MC's. Most of Nash's issues revolved around Arabella and her pets. That pissed me off because I love pets and I wanted the H to love them too, but I understood why Nash felt the way he did. He had not been used to so many animals around him so the sudden influx of so many of them into his neat townhouse must have been really annoying. He did take a long time to understand Arabella and I admired how much she remained loyal to her pets. The MC's were really a mismatched couple because they were true opposites yet their love and respect for each other did grow as time passed. I hated the heroine's mother. That woman should have died for trying to force her daughter to marry that repulsive Lord Pembroke.

Marrying the Wrong Earl is a fabulous blast to the Regency era. It features Lady Arabella, a woman who is beyond her time. She is a dedicated animal lover and loves to care for them. In the modern era, I have no doubt she would be a vet. Her animals mean more to her than anything else. No one understands at all what its like. When accidentally, but forced, into a compromising position with Nash, she unwillingly becomes a Countess.

I loved Arabella. She is a strong, independent heroine. I felt bad she had to live within the restrictions of her time. While Marrying the Wrong Earl is lovely romance, I also felt it highlighted the plight of women during the time period, which was appreciated. Nash was sexy, albeit a bit arrogant. He is so multifaceted, I was rooting for him even when I didn't want to.

Their story is a different take on a common historical troupe. It was energetic and hopeful. I really enjoyed Marring the Wrong Earl and would recommend it to any Regency Era reader!

Another hit for Callie Hutton! Lady Arabella Danvers was up for this season. She was hopeful that if she is forced to marry, she could at least find someone with whom she would enjoy spending time. Truth be told, she would rather spend her days with her pets. But her mother has her sights set on marrying Arabella to the Earl of Pembroke, an unsightly man who just happens to be rich. She encourages his pursuit of her daughter at every opportunity. Arabella has already turned down three offers, and has tried her best to dissuade the earl's pursuit. She has no intentions to let this man--old enough to be her grandfather with a fat, fleshy sweaty body--become her intended. In fact, she hoped to deflect his offer if there was any way possible, and cannot understand her mother's persistence in trying to saddle her with someone from whom she just wants to run and hide.

Arabella loves animals and is passionate about helping them. More often than not, if she cannot find someone to take the animals after she has healed them, she keeps them as pets. She is much more willing to spend her days as a spinster taking care of animals. This hobby of taking in strays with wounds and fixing them up has already earned her a questionable reputation with the ton.

She has promised a cat to a woman in town and decides to deliver the animal. On the way there, the cat finds her way out of the basket she is being carried in, and up a tree. Not able to stand losing her animal, Lady Arabella convinces an innocent bystander, the Earl of Clarendon (Nash), to help retrieve her cat. Despite falling in the mud, tearing the seat of his pants, and succumbing to his allergy of cat dander, the Earl climbs the tree and retrieves the cat. His walk through Hyde Park ruined, he leaves as quickly as possible, hoping to never cross paths with either Lady Arabella Danvers or her cats again.

Later that same night Nash joins his sister and her husband at the Ashbourne ball, thinking he may 'settle' and offer for a young debutant -- Lady Grace. But he doesn't count on seeing Lady Arabella --his sister's closest friend. The two are forced into a waltz by his sister, and do nothing but irritate each other throughout the entire five- minute affair.

In need of some peace of mind, and perhaps a shot of brandy, before he proposes to Lady Grace, Nash heads to the Ashbourne dark library. He hopes to take a breather before making his proposal. Unbeknownst to him, Lady Arabella receives a note on the ballroom floor requesting she attend her mother immediately, who was waiting for her in the Ashbourne library. She rushes there thinking her mother ill. Nash and Lady Arabella find themselves together in the library - in the dark. They argue and Lady Arabella tries to leave. But as luck will have it, Lady Arabella trips and lands in his arms at the same moment her mother springs the parson's trap that she had intended for her daughter and Lord Pembroke, only to find the wrong earl was caught. Compromised and facing ruin, Nash realizes that not only will Lady Arabella be ruined, but his good name will take a hit. There is nothing for it but to marry. But does the marriage have a chance of a happier ever after? And what will this rocky road look like?

Ms. Hutton does a great job with her characters. She takes the storyline of marrying off a young debutant to for the sake of money, and makes it one that you never saw coming. The story flows quickly and has hilarious moments. I read from cover to cover - not wanting to miss anything. I have not missed a single Regency written by Ms. Hutton, and look forward to her next one. This book deserves all five stars - I hope anyone that loves Regency Romances picks it up!

I received this arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What should one do when they are not convinced that the heroine is truly in love with the hero? I feel like Arabella fell in love with Nash, because the book was ending and since this is supposed to be a romance novel, the main characters had to fall for each other. It took me 3 weeks to finish the book because I couldn't stand the characters.

Arabella was too open minded and independent for a woman who is supposed to live 200 years ago. If she lived in the modern era she would have been a feminazi. When the readers ask for a strong female character this isn't what they have in mind. In the end, Arabella comes off as a snobbish person who thinks that everyone else is beneath her especially the male characters. I have read books with heroines stronger in a sense than her, independent and willing to be free from their current station who are by far more developed and the reader falls for them.

Nash is also a unlovable character, but for me, he had more redeeming qualities. He wasn't the one who in one chapter though he could never even care for the other person an,d in the next chapter admits his undying love. He acted more like the way I think men were acting at the time, rather than the way a hero in a romance novel would do. He was always forbidding Arabella to do something, but I also don't believe that she ever tried to make him see her point. Arabella operated on animals in their library for the love of God. Nash was a jerk about it, but Arabella thought she could do whatever she wanted to. It was like she hadn't realized that her circumstances had changed and kept on living her life as a woman with no responsibilities other than caring for the animals.

I don't think there is anything else to say. The big obstacle in this book is the two main characters. If someone can find a way to like them, then they might enjoy the book. Unfortunately, for me, I was dreading to read it.

A lady of this time, Lady Arabella Danver she loves animals. She loves to care for them. She also loves her freedom to do so. She knows that she will need to marry but she wishes to marry a man that will understand her and her need to care for the sick and injured animals. She was also very aware that her mother wanted to marry her off. She was not aware that the money was tight and her marriage was needed to keep them afloat. The earl was the other side of this duo. Nash, the Earl of Clarendon wanted a wife that he could mold to be what he wanted but of course that was not going to happen. He had the perfect pupil in his sights, but Lady Arabella steps in or stumbles in.

Here was where it all changed for the duo. Things get interesting and life takes on a new meaning for them both. Arabella was sweet, loving, and caring. She was a woman out of her time with the need to care for animals. On cue there was Nash, he was sexy, arrogant, and authoritative. This was a romance that grew and bloomed with interaction and time. Some schemes catch the wrong prey but makes a perfect match. This was a delightful historical read of romancing the wrong prey but getting a perfect fit.

such a fun and exciting new tale. Callie knows how to weave a couple that have such chemistry in a love hate relationship and to many animals. Nash wants a mild manner woman to become his bride and it is not Arabella. she is head strong and has a love for animals. Plus he's allergic to cats! what kind of life could they have together? but the wrong people witnessing them in a compromising position has them rushing off to the alter and learning about each other afterwards. they have a passion amongst each other but will it be enough to keep a marriage going? tempers rise and furr will fly in this hilarious tale.

I have been provided with an ARC of Marrying the Wrong Earl from Entangled Publishing through NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the first book I have read by Callie Hutton and it will not be the last. This book is the second book in the Lords & Ladies in Love series and it is written to be a standalone so I wasn’t confused by not having read the first book in the series. This book just had me laughing so much to see what other interesting things would happen. I loved getting to see Lady Arabella and Nash find each other and how they get through their differences. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

This was my first by Callie Hutton and won't be my last! I really enjoyed this!

Lady Arabella is not the typical lady of the ton. She likes helping animals that are hurt and in need. But when an accidental meeting thrusts her into marriage with Nash, Earl of Clarendon, she knows how to be a proper lady, but her caring nature comes in between them. In my opinion, Nash was a bit of a jerk about the animals and her caring for them.

Yes, this was the second book in the series, but it was easily read as a stand alone.

While this is not a bad book, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. Arabella wasn't overly likeable, unlike the hero, Nash, who was rather endearing.

Oh my! What a Refreshing read!"Marring the Wrong Earl" was such a fantastic read. Right from the beginning I was lured into this beautiful story, that captivated my attention throughout my entire read. In this book, you will meet Lady Arabella and Nash, the Earl of Clarendon.
Lady Arabella is a spirited young women and loves to nurture injured animals that are in need of her care. She is beautiful, smart, and different from the ladies of the ton.
As for Nash, he is a dreamy handsome man, with blond curls that haves many women falling to his feet. He has been considering taking a wife who will be dutiful, "perfect', and an attentive countess.
Nothing goes as plan for Nash or Arabella, which I for one would not mind finding myself "Marrying the Wrong Earl" (lol). There was much chemistry right from the start, I was honestly trying to predict what would happen next. Much to my surprise I was wrong, there will be conflicts that the couple will experience, and It will take their love to realize what is important. I cannot say more, I do not wish to spoil for the rest of you that have yet to read. It was an emotional story for me, I cried, laughed and felt the heartache. ( And the Love) It was unpredictable; If you have read Callie Hutton's previous books, you are in for a big sweet surprise! If you have not read her "Marriage Mart Mayhem series", it is okay but, I find that you will enjoy her other novels just as much as I have. Happy reads! Enjoy, you will not regret!

Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life just the way it is. She is free to be herself and take care of broken and abandoned animals. Her mother is desperate for her to marry, and has decided to take things into her own hands. There is just one little problem with her plan she doesn’t count on Nash, the Earl of Clarendon being in the library. Nash has determined it is time to take a wife & he has selected a woman to whom he intends to propose, Lady Grace but he wants a few minutes to himself so goes to the library where Arabella arrives after receiving a note from her mother. There’s only one thing Nash can do! & three days later they are married.
An easy enjoyable read. The story is well written there is plenty of humour that has you at least smiling if not laughing. Both Nash & Arabella are very likeable, although Nash can be arrogant at times he’s never over bearing. The plot is tried & tested, compromised & married then have to get to know each other & hopefully fall in love. The author does make the plot enjoyable & I wanted to see how their HEA worked out.

3.5 ⭐️

I thought the book was fine, but nothing particularly special. I found Nash a bit irritating at times, especially with the way he kept nagging Arabella about behaving “properly” and how he seemed mostly focused on sex. I didn’t really get the sense that they had much of a connection beyond their physical attraction. Overall, the book was a bit of a disappointment for me.

Summary;

(Spoilers)

Lady Arabella is content with her life. She has a few close friends, is generally well-liked in the ton, and is known, though sometimes gossiped about, for her unusual habit of rescuing sick or stray animals, caring for them until she finds them new homes. Her father, an earl, passed away some time ago, leaving her and her mother with little money. While the new earl is willing to ensure their future, Arabella’s mother refuses to have anything to do with him and is determined that Arabella marry a wealthy man. Arabella has already rejected three proposals and fears she will soon have to refuse another, this time from an older earl her mother is pushing toward her.

Nash, the Earl of Clarendon, is ready to marry. Having done everything expected of a young lord, he has chosen Lady Grace as the perfect candidate for his wife. He plans to propose to her, but his intentions are derailed when he is found in a compromising situation with Lady Arabella. To protect her reputation, he announces that they will marry. Nash has no desire for this match, especially after their awkward morning encounter when Arabella’s cat attacked him and then got stuck in a tree, forcing Nash to rescue it at her insistence. He finds her irritating, and she makes it clear that she finds him arrogant and has no wish to marry him either.

Arabella intends to break the engagement, but during a carriage ride with Nash, they encounter Lady Grace and her mother, who are shockingly rude to Arabella. Nash comes to her defense, insisting that everyone treat her with respect as his future countess. Though this was never his plan, seeing Grace’s spoiled behavior makes him realize he might be better off with Arabella. Still, his main reasoning for marrying her is practical, without a quick wedding, her reputation will be ruined by ongoing gossip.

Nash decides they will marry within three days, explaining that it is the best way to protect her name. Arabella agrees, though her small dowry is a concern for Nash, as Lady Grace had promised a much larger one.

After the wedding, tensions arise immediately when Arabella wants to bring all her animals with her, something Nash refuses, partly due to his allergies. Despite his frustration, Nash secretly anticipates their wedding night, but Arabella falls ill before they can consummate the marriage. Deeply worried, Nash stays by her side, making sure she is comfortable and cared for until she recovers. Once she is well, they finally come together, and Nash is not only surprised by her passion and curiosity but is also unexpectedly gentle and attentive during and after, showing a side of himself that is warm, protective, and deeply caring.

Life in the country brings them closer. Nash becomes suspicious about his finances, suspecting his secretary of embezzlement, and visiting his tenants only deepens that concern. They enjoy their time together, but eventually return to London for Nash’s parliamentary duties and for Arabella to be near her animals. Nash continues to remind her to behave properly to avoid scandal, which begins to wear on her patience. Weeks pass like this, mostly good, but punctuated by tension, until Arabella starts feeling tired and nauseous. At a ball, she faints and realizes she is pregnant.

Nash asks her to host a dinner party, which she manages beautifully despite feeling unwell. He is impressed with her skill and believes the evening will be a success, until Arabella learns that one of her dogs has been injured in an accident. She insists on going to see it, but Nash forbids her. She defies him, leaving him humiliated in front of his guests. That night, they argue fiercely. Nash wants a proper countess who behaves according to society’s rules, not someone who chases after animals. Convinced their marriage cannot work, he sends her to his country estate. Arabella tells him she is pregnant, but it does not change his mind. She had already planned to go, hoping he would join her, but now she realizes their marriage is over.

Nash is miserable without her, eating at his club each night to avoid being alone. He speaks with Drake, the Duke of Manchester, who is happily devoted to his botanist wife despite the gossip her unusual pursuits attract. When Nash asks if Drake is happy, the duke admits that he loves his wife. The idea of love no longer panics Nash, it begins to feel like a possibility.

Arabella, lonely without Nash, misses him terribly. Her pregnancy progresses well, and she decides to go riding to pass the time. During her ride, she realizes she does not want her marriage to end, she loves Nash and plans to reach out to him. But before she can, she falls from her horse.

Nash receives word that Arabella has been injured and that the baby is in danger. He immediately travels to the estate, a journey of ten hours, and is relieved to learn they will both be fine. He apologizes, tells her he loves her, and they agree to compromise so their future together can work, even if it means both must make sacrifices.

I had issues with how overbearing the Heroine was. She, like her mother, was...mouthy, opinionated to the point of disrespectful, and stubborn didn't even begin to touch the attitude she had throughout the story. If she truly found the Hero to be a gentleman, she sure the heck did not treat him as such. She was, apparently, extremely obtuse in regards to the need for the marriage and she kept showing how poorly she appreciated the Hero's efforts to protect her reputation. While I understood her not wanting to be pushed into a marriage, because of the rules of the times, she really didn't have much choice, and the Hero was respectful enough of her to want to do the right thing, even though he could have ruined both her and her mother by exposing what had really happened. She later complained about his lack of attention but whenever he did try she always found a way to ruin it. She was positively shrewish throughout the story, determined to have her way, every time, no yielding, no compromising. The mother of the heroine is 100% detestable. I don't know why authors can't make extended family members and/or other characters at least a little bit likeable. No one is 100% anything and to write a character in this way is just distasteful. She had absolutely no respect for anyone. She was way too busy manipulating everyone she could. While the Hero of the story did seem a bit belligerent and controlling a good deal of the time, his heart was in the right place when he made the effort to save the Heroine's reputation by offering marriage. He continued in the same vein by championing her virtue throughout the story. I've never understood why authors have to write stories where most, if not all, the main characters had issues with the emotion of love (or any emotions for that matter), whether in a marriage or out of it. It would be nice to read a story where the couple actually fell in love, but maybe while wooing they found themselves in some kind of drama that hindered the process but eventually would lead to an HEA. That would have been nice here, but it wasn't to be. One, if not both, the main characters had issues with the idea/concept of a loving marriage...or even the very idea of marriage itself. The Hero's aversion to the animals is, somewhat, understandable...at least the part where the cats and his allergic reaction is concerned. But he also went overboard in being so adamantly against them. However, the Heroin's lack of sympathy and understanding in regards to said allergy was reprehensible. For most of the book she acted like a petulant child. With all that being said, there was little to no romance or passion between the two main characters. They just never seemed to find any common ground, nothing that would be expected in a romantic relationship. The constant fighting was a bit of a bore, with each of them struggling to maintain the ultimate control and neither willing to yield a smidge to the other. Again, both unwilling to compromise in any way, until it was too late...or was it? Is there an HEA for this story? Well, if my review hasn't turned you against the book, read it and decide for yourself. After all, a review is just one person's opinion, right?

Arabella’s mother is trying to quickly marry her off especially since her father had died and left them very little to no money. But Arabella has already turned three suitors away. The town thinks Arabella is odd because she likes to take care of sick animals. Arabella knows it will be hard to to find a husband who will accept her for who she really is. Nash is the Earl of Clarendon and is looking for a biddable wife who is young and can be trained to be the wife Nash wants and needs. Nash has Lady Grace in mind to propose to even though he doesn’t love her. Then Nash is in the area when Arabella is trying to deliver a promised cat to a lady in the village. Said cat gets away and goes up a tree Arabella gets Nash to go up the tree and get the cat even though he is allergic to cat dander. Nash knows Arabella isn’t the woman he wants and Arabella knows Nash isn’t someone she would want to spend her life with. Her mother wants Arabella to marry the Earl of Pembroke who is rich. But he is old enough to be Arabella’s grandfather. She wants nothing to do with the Earl, Arabella was Nash’s sisters best friend. Nash went to a ball with his sister and brother in law. Arabella was also there as was the Earl of Pembroke. Nash is forced by his sister to dance with Arabella and they just don’t get along. Nash goes off to a darkened library to get some peace and grab a drink before proposing to Lady Grace. Arabella got a note saying to meet her mother in the library she hurries there thinking her mother really needed her. When she gets there Nash is there they argue and when Arabella goes to leave she trips and ends up in Nash’s arms and her mother comes out and sees them. She had set this up for Arabella to be found with the Earl of Pembroke but found Arabella and Nash instead. Not only for Arabella’s reputation but for Nash’s good name so they marry.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved that Arabella followed her passion which was animals and taking care of them even if she was thought to be odd because of it. I loved the plot and pace of this book. I love how Arabella turned down three suitors as she felt they weren’t right for her and she didn’t want anything to do with the earl of Pembroke. I choked up at times and chuckled at times while reading this. I really enjoyed reading this historical novel. I liked that there wasn’t insta lust but a growing relationship in this book. I loved reading about the interaction between Nash and Arabella. This caught my attention right from the beginning and kept my attention until the end. I didn't like Nash when he sent Arabella away for being herself but I did understand just didn’t like him for it. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

TW: Fat phobia

First off, the title does not fit. There was not another earl she wanted to marry, in fact the hero was the one that wanted to marry someone else.

I found the heroine truly insufferable, which saddened me because she was an animal lover, and there aren't enough animal loving heroines in my opinion. A little backstory, her father died, leaving no money for her and her mother. The new earl has said he will let them stay, but the heroine is very cavalier about letting a stranger take care of her indefinitely when he will have little to no money to do so. Her mother was terrible, but she had a point that the heroine needed to get married sooner rather than later. The heroine had no problem getting married, but she wants a tolerable husband. Yet, she keeps turning down suitors. The first two were old (which okay, I kind of get, but for a heroine who basically just wanted a husband to let her do whatever she wanted they could have been perfect options for her) and the last was fat. That's it, he was fat. There was nothing wrong with his personality, nothing to indicate he would treat her badly or try to control her. (Don't get me started on the way the author described this poor man) Once she meets the hero, she is outright hostile to him for no reason and continues to be hostile to him on subsequent meetings. I don't like shrew heroines, they are so rarely justified in their behavior. (Upon reading reviews, she stays like that the whole book, so I noped out)

I need to mention the fat phobia for a minute. I'm not personally overweight, but I was really uncomfortable reading about the only character that was overweight. He was described very negatively, like sweaty and waddling and sausage fingers. Plus, being fat was his only personality trait. He wasn't rude or condescending or lecherous or anything that would have justified the heroine's dislike. It just made an unlikable heroine seem shallow on top of everything else.

THIS STORY BORDERED ON AVERAGE, SADLY I CANNOT CLAIM THAT IT WAS EXHILARATING AND PASSIONATE, IN FACT IT STARTED OUT SLOW. AND PERHAPS A LITTLE UNEVENTFUL FOR MY TASTE.

OUR HERO did not intend for a walk in the park ending with him getting soaked in mudz climbing a tree to rescue a wayward cat AND splitting the back of his breeches, all for the sake of Lady Arabella. You can imagine why he shudders at the thought of her, trouble is her middle name and not to mention her peculiarities in treating wounded wild animals. It is most unbecoming of a society miss. He also didn't expect to be caught with her in his arms at the wrong moment by the ton, and thus their hasty marriage a few days later. While I do have qualms about it being sans drama and uneventful without angst, the blossoming relationship between him and Arabella was quite nice to read about, mostly because they were like cat and dog in the beginning before slowly falling in love. Clearly he wants a Countess who can run the household and throw glorious parties and such but what can he expect of a wife who is so unconventional?

OUR HEROINE is spectacular in the sense that she treats animals like a veterinarian. Of course during their era, that is a rare Job and women aren't even allowed to hold such positions. This is an appalling fact to her husband who is allergic to cats and he holds adamant that she will not continue this outrageous hobby of hers. Arabella is quite headstrong in doing what she wants and that is part of the fun of watching her interaction with the Earl, seeing him vexed by his beautiful wife.

OVERALL this while average was still an average read. If you enjoy a story with a sweet nature, a certified HEA and NO ANGST OR DRAMA, then this is the one for you.

This is a delightful book about a very headstrong stubborn young woman who refuses to change her ways and a true dyed in the mill straitlaced upstanding gentleman of the ton. Lady Arabella's mother is anxious to marry her off so that she will have a secure future. Arabella does not know why her mother is pressuring her. Arabella does not know that her late father tossed everything of value away. Her mother's security was gone and her dowry was what they were living on. Arabella's mother was matching her up with men old enough to be her grandfather and she has turned down all the proposals for marriage so far. Her mother feeling desperate that this is Arabella's last chance to marry sets up compromising situation between her and Earl of Pembroke. But as bad luck would have it, it was Nash, the Earl of Clarendon who ended up in a compromising situation with Arabella. they hardly knew each other but propriety demanded Nash offer for her. Arabella did not want to marry and offered to be fake engaged for a time then Nash could cry off. Nash simply refused. She would be ruined and his reputation tarnished. She had no choice but to marry. She had one quirk she refused to budge on. She took in injured animals of all types and healed them back to health. Nash was having none of it but compromised that he would build a kennel out of doors for the dogs and a shed for the other animals. But none were to live in the house. Arabella and Nash were new to being married and had a lot to learn about give and take, compromising, and what it meant to love one another. They experience took them from bad to worse to the point where they separated. This is an enjoyable read about the growing pangs of marriage and of life.

FANTASTIC FUN FILLED DELIGHTFUL ROMANCE

Callie Hutton has been placed on my keeper read and reread shelf. Marrying the Wrong Earl is a complete fantastically plotted fast paced romance filled with passion between the hero and heroine, disagreements, laughter, tenderness, strength, and eventually trust beyond question. The well-developed characters pull the reader into their world and carries them away to the faraway land where the story unfolds. This author magically captures from the first page through to the last. I very highly recommend this book and author to anyone who loves reading historical romance. I will be purchasing her past books and mark my calendar for each new release.

Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life just the way it is. She is free to be herself and take care of broken and abandoned animals. Her mother is desperate for her to marry, and has decided to take things into her own hands. There is just one little problem with her plan.
woman to whom he intends to propose. However, the annoying Lady Arabella has stumbled into his life at the wrong time, and in the wrong place.
But he of all people should know if Lady Arabella is involved, plans will go awry.

I am so glad I picked this book and have found a new author to add to my favorites list. Readers will in no way be disappointed to add this and any other Callie Hutton books to their to be read list.

This is the second book in this series but they can be read as standalone books. I haven’t read the first book in this series and didn’t feel like I was missing anything. This is also the first book I have read by Callie. I won a paperback copy of this book. I do love historical and regency romances. They are throwbacks to a different time. Lady Arabella Danvers loves her life just the way it is. She isn’t your typical lady. She rescues and helps hurt and abandoned animals. Her mother has other plans for her. While she knows that she will eventually have to marry she wishes to put it off for as long as possible. Nash the Earl of Clarendon has decided it is time to marry. He has a lady in mind. However, both his and Lady Arabella’s plan are about to ruined. Neither of them finds the other the ideal match. While Nash does think Arabella is pleasing to look at he doesn’t think she would make a good wife for him. After being caught in a dark room together it no longer matters what they want. If Nash doesn’t make an offer for her than she will be ruined. They have lots of adjusting to do. Nash must adjust his assumption of what a wife should do and how she should act. Arabella must adjust her wants and make some compromises as well. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the other books in this series. I also look forward to reading other books by Callie.

I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!

I enjoyed this novel. The plot contains romance and about accepting a person for who they are and not trying to change them.
Lady Arabella Danvers cares for injured animals, a "hobby" that is not ladies of the ton. Her mother needs Arabella to marry immediately, but does not tell her why and keeps having older men court her.
Nash, the Earl of Clarendon, has decided to take a wife that follows society's rules. He also needs money to fund his estates. At the time, he does not know why his estates are not providing income.
They meet when Arabella is chasing a cat and asks Nash to get the cat down from the tree. They meet again at a ball. When Arabella receives a note from her mother to meet her in the library, she discovers Nash there. Her mother storms in and sees them in a "compromising" position. However, her mother had someone else in mind for her daughter, but Nash proposes marriage. Arabella tries to get Nash to cry off since they would never suit. They marry quickly to avoid the gossips.
Nash is not happy with Arabella's "hobby" and wants her to act like a proper countess. Arabella was raised to be a proper lady but enjoys helping hurt animals. This causes arguments between them. When Arabella leaves a dinner party to help an injured animal, Nash sends her away. He feels he cannot have a wife who defies society and make others, especially those in Parliament, question him. Will Arabella forgive Nash for sending her away? Will they both realize they love each other and be able to accept each other for who they are?

I chuckled a lot during my reading of this cute romance ‘cause it reminded me of marriages in this day and age as well…not because of the way the hero and heroine met and were forced to marry due to societal strictures, but because of the ways husbands and wives have to get used to living with each other with give and take and sacrifice and understanding. Nash and Arabella rubbed each other the wrong way until they accidentally met in the library while at a ball, at which time their accidental private meeting was witnessed by a designing parent and others. From then on Nash and Arabella fussed and fumed with each other and then “made up” and gradually fell in love with each other. A lively, lovely romance!

Lady Arabella and Nash, the Earl of Clarendon clash at their first meeting in the book. She is chasing a cat she has nursed back to health, he is unfortunately in the way of the cat who pounces on his chest knocking him into a mud puddle, setting off a sneezing jag. These two are so unsuited for each other. She is a animal lover, caring for all injured ones who come her way. He is on the verge of offering for an heiress who is what he sees as the epitome of what his countess should be. Fate has something else in store for them. Their trials and tribulations make for an interesting read. Although I liked some of Callie Hutton's other books better, this is a worthwhile read. I look forward to reading more of her. I received this eBook from NetGalley for an honest review

wasn't sure how I'd like this book. Really, a lady who fancies herself a freelance vet, taking in stray, injured animals and performing surgery and first aid on them? But I was able to get past the story device and found I liked the H and h very much, despite some flaws. He is a bit prideful and constantly telling the h how to behave. She places her animals well being above her marriage. And neither thinks they love or need the other. Despite those flaws, they have a passionate relationship, and when their own selfishness separated them, both soon realized what they had lost. Ending up with a sweet story, with a well matched couple.
