Kurse is a 16 y/o boy in the Queendom of Gaol. Gaol's queen has eliminated poverty, hunger and other things but did it at a price. All of those who are unable to take care of themselves are made slaves of the state and given to those who can take care of them. Kurse though is a mage, and by law all mages belong to the crown. KUrse is ripped away from his family and his love to serve the queen like all mages must, there are no friends, no family only the Queen. It soon becomes apparent Kurse if different from the other mages, something more powerful. As war with the Zora empire looms Kurse will find himself tested
I know a bunch of you have been asking exactly you the heck I am. First off, my name is Whiskey Flowers, I was active duty army and now I am a proud member of the New Mexico National Guard. In my day job, I am a corrections officer, I watch the best and brightest Albuquerque has to offer and make little money doing it. I am originally from Oakland, California, home of dumbasses and knuckleheads everywhere where I attempted to become their leader until the army put me on a different path. As many of you have pointed out, I never got my high school diploma, I am a GED student but I make it look good. If any of you are ever in New Mexico and want a drinking partner, I got you.
The tragedy and injustice of those in power with their attitude and behavior towards those with less or no power is appalling. Yet, Kurse is compelling as he trys to maintain his humanity while the powerful attempt to mold him into a tool of terror for the Queen. After they have taken everything from him trying to keep him under their control, he makes his move.
Wow, what a horrible book. There were so many disgusting people and horrid acts talked about in the story it was a bit nauseating. I tried to like this after reading a couple of other books by the author that I enjoyed, but this sucked big time. So sad.
I liked the story abs the ending. I liked Kurse as a character and I’m really interested in how he develops in the future. I just that there us a sequel to this story sometime in the near future.
I really tries to like this book but I just can't! A little out there and way to short, like the author was hurrying through it to get it done. Waist your time if you want but I'm not going to waist any more of mt time with this author!
Loved it, what a tragic great story. Full of sadness cockiness but also goodness. Looking forward to finding out some more of the events that have unfolded near the end. Awesome.
