So we finally get to know who the stranger is and what his motives are. I will say that at times I do think the author could have skipped some things (like all the Quin serving Layla stuff) but I am still really enjoying the series and I do feel like this book helps Layla find her real strength.

Yeah, I'm dine. I loved the first two books. The last 3...it's not going anywhere. And I'm so tired if reading "bicep" and various versions of "he would do anything for her"!!! And come on, why does Layla have to be so weak??? Being carried around like a freaking baby just because. And get your own dn coffee. I thought she was the heroine in this story!!! For someone who took care of a dying parent and worked and was still valedictorian...she has no freaking backbone! Ugh. Yep, I'm done.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to lose interest in the series, and I wish that hadn't happened. I really enjoyed the first three books, but books 4 and 5 seemed to veer off course for me. Once again, it seems like Burgess is trying to insert conflict where it isn't necessary. Further, the first five books take place in about a week, and for me, that's just not realistic, even in the wizardry world. I'm not sure I'll be purchasing book 6, even though book 5 ended with a cliffhanger. I'm not sure I care enough about the characters, except maybe the grandparents and the little girl.

Read books 1-5 on i books because they were free. Interesting idea if developed properly but each book just feels like long chapters and it’s no so much cliffhangers as feeling unfinished. Some bits are excruciatingly repetitive.. Quin gets Layla coffee, Layla feels guilty, they’re both desperate to sleep with each other. Plus Layla becomes less sympathetic towards the end, at the start she’s lonely and independent, then you understand finding her family and learning about her past is a rollercoaster but wanting to be carried about like a baby? Why?

Now the series is annoying. It has glimpses of a good story but then is full of “no you hang up”, “I love you more” childishness. Stop already. The very end has me curious about what comes next but I don’t know if I dare.

You can downloaded the first 5 books in the series for free in the Google Play Books.
The series was good, just too light and the plot seems repeating. Of course you can tell the stories, a war between factions and some romance like any other novels.
