Millions of dieters using chemical sweeteners will be shocked by firefighter Janet Starr Hull's story. Diagnosed with a deadly case of Grave's Disease after she collapsed on the job, Hull was told she would die. Searching for the cause of her illness, Hull discovered that the chemical sweetener aspartame found in Nutrasweet was to blame.
This is a fascinating book about the dangers of artificial sweetener. I was already trying to give up Diet Soda and this just helped me get over the hump. What was an accidental discovery (as a drug for ulcers) is now in over 5,000 food products and a billion dollar industry. Consume aspartame with caution!
The book is poorly written, edited badly, titled misleadingly, yet I was facinated by the story and its possible implications. The short of it all is this: be aware of what you are eating and drinking. Know what it is and what it can do to you.
A very good book with lots of facts, research, and her personal story as well as many personal stories. I do wish she had covered more details of the recovery process but this is definitely worth reading!
Poorly written, but had some very interesting facts about Nurtrasweet that I hadn't heard before. I will probably stop chewing Nutrasweet-sweetened gum after having read this book.
I wish more people would read this in a day where everyone seems to be drinking the diet sodas without knowing the ugliness that is aspartame. It can be downright dangerous to your health.
