A secret romance four years ago had unexpected consequences for Valerie North. Now a young mother still living in her hometown, her life revolves around her daughter and the small newspaper where she’s honing her writing skills. When her brother comes home for a visit, she’s ecstatic until she finds out who is with him—Justin Brown—the green-eyed boy she never thought she’d see again. Except on TV, of course. The feelings she had for him still run deep, but her fears run much deeper.
Justin has a promising career in the NHL and a lifetime of opportunity ahead of him. So why does he feel so empty? A trip back to his hometown presents an opportunity to relax away from the ice and possibly to reconnect with an old flame. But why is she so determined to avoid him? What secret is Valerie North hiding?

This story started of pretty well but basic. Your usual child is loved, but I didn't tell the father story. The father is a pro hockey player and secret ex boyfriend/ best friend to her over seas older brother.
It started getting cute, but ended shortly after one night of him talking with him openly about his daughter, and them physically rekindling their previous relationship.
Him offering her to come to Boston was so out in left field though, just cause you scored doesn't mean a relationship can work with the pressure of moving, new place, new people to meet, his work, her work and a child to care for.
This story goes more on ideal and hopeful rather then the realism I prefer reading.
If your into quick, cute, Cinderella stories then this one is it.
This needed a more developed ending or epilogue of future months or years, it needed her telling her family and his, and him coming out to Julia on who he really is.
This is a novella so short and relatively quickly over. Apparently, this genre is called Athlete's Romance. Well, only if you define this a having sex with a hockey player. I am afraid the story isn't really believable or going anywhere. Not my thing.
This book was very short, less than an hour (about 20,000 words). Although it was a quick read there were quite a few grammatical errors and mistakes. I didn't love it but for what it is, it's ok.
