#1) The Witch's Kiss ★☆☆☆☆
The Witch’s Tears was disappointing. It was a complete filler story; nothing happened and anything which did happen did not warrant being made into an entire sequel. Its 400 plus pages could have easily been reduced by half. The first book at least incorporated a dual timeline and had a clear end goal. The Witch’s Tears had no direction or clear-cut plot, relying on romantic drama to push it along. It was predictable. It definitely should have remained a standalone.
Both of the MCs, Merry and Leo, were incredibly irritating. I appreciated that their sibling relationship remained a focus of the story. However, the fact that every character interaction in this book was over the top and dramatic. Leo was much more likeable in the first book. He completely lost his way in this book, which I understand is realistic. He was grieving. I would have accepted that if we had gotten to explore his grief but we didn’t. Merry also remained the juvenile, reckless protagonist I came to dislike in the first book. I appreciated that she was struggling with lots of things but I just could not connect with her on any level. The characters all felt one-dimensional and flat. We were told so much about them but their personalities never shone through. It made it difficult to care about them.
The romances were no help; neither of these characters should have new love interests. They were both meant to be in mourning. I was not a fan of Jack in the first book because Merry barely knew him before declaring her undying love. The fact that she moved on so quickly bothered me even more, though. Same with Leo. He is going through a lot at the moment and the very last thing he needed was any sort of romantic drama.
With that being said, the aspect of this series that disappointed me the most is the lore. The witch lore is completely underdeveloped. I have so many questions about how it works! We have no real knowledge about the coven members besides Merry and the leaders, let alone how this system works on a global scale. The mechanics of spell-casting is also left hazy. We know they cast spells by singing, using runes, making potions and that sort of thing but how does magic work in this world? Are they challenging energy? Are the ingredients magical in themselves? Lots of little details like that are left out and the authors’ inability to create a rich and atmospheric witchy world really distanced my immersion in this series.

As far as sequels go, I really, REALLY liked this one! I loved how much we got to read about Merry learning about her powers and how to control them. Normally, that's a part of magical fantasies that I feel gets skimmed over and to me it's the most interesting part!
Whenever I read about witches, I'm always skeptical about newcomers and it's always for good reason. Both Leo and Merry had new love interests in this book and I was constantly battling with who was going to not be who they said they were. Wizards, man, you can't trust them.
With disappearances and deaths, magic and mayhem, The Witch's Tears was a great continuation of The Witch's Kiss and now I'm dying for a third book to be announced. It can't end where it did, it just can't!

The Witch’s Tears, is the sequel to, The Witch’s Kiss, which I reviewed earlier in the year. With a lot of sequels, the book never seems to live up to the first one, but there are always exceptions, and this is one of them.
The book starts off three months after where The Witch’s Kiss left off. It’s the school holidays, and with their grief still strong after what happened in book one, Merry and Leo need one another to get though this tough time.
When their grandmother, and leader of the coven mysteriously vanishes, it’s up to the pair to find her, though with Merry still learning her craft, and Leo being consumed by his grief, becoming withdrawn, this is not going to be an easy feat.
The plot felt more in-depth that the first, especially when it came to Merry and Leo’s relationship, as these two seemed to be at the forefront of this book, as they both need one another to survive.
Merry is trying to learn and control her magic, even-though others don’t always believe in her. Leo is losing himself, but with newly-arrived Ronan taking an interest in him, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for him. We also get to meet another newcomer, wizard Finn.
There is more action, magic and mayhem in this book than the last, especially right at the end, leading to the cliffhanger. The story is exceptionally well-written, and has you turning the pages at lightning speed, absorbing every detail, being sucked into the characters’ lives, and the dangerous situation that they find themselves in.
If you have read book one, then you must read this one. If not, and you are a fan of magic/fantasy books, get reading the series, you won’t be disappointed.

Merry has defeated a powerful wizard, but the coven she's a member of treats her with distrust. She has to learn how to use magic by abiding to their rules, using their ways of spell casting, when she's finally allowed to actually perform something, and learning plenty of theory. This isn't how Merry feels she should practice her magic, but as it's the way her coven wants it she has no choice but to agree. After losing the boy she loves pretending to be a normal teenager while also being trained as a witch isn't easy, but Merry has to keep going.
Merry's brother Leo is struggling with heartbreak as well. He's angry and while he used to tell Merry everything he's now withdrawn and secretive. When a new friend who understands what magic can do, is interested in spending time with him, Leo decides it's time to make his own choices. However, something isn't right and danger is lurking in the shadows. How long will it take before it strikes and will Merry and Leo be able to be victorious this time or does their rift mess things up completely?
The Witch's Tears is another fantastic gripping story by Katharine and Elizabeth Corr. I love Merry's strength. She's smart, resilient and powerful. She's always looking out for the people she loves. She's being held back by the coven and that's difficult for her, especially when she knows there's so much more she can do. She tries to be patient and I liked her determination to stay civil without losing her willingness to learn and to think outside the box at the same time. However, sometimes it's better for her to go her own way. She's a fantastic main character and I really enjoyed reading about her.
Leo is going through a difficult time. He's from a family of witches and has no power of his own. He's done an incredible thing, but Merry is the special one, because she's the one who's able to cast the spells. I could easily understand his frustration and his sadness about losing his best friend and the person he loved the most. It was painful to see him suffer so much, but it was also great to read more about him and I loved the extra layers of depth Katharine and Elizabeth Corr added to his personality. This made the story even more fascinating and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out where his unpredictable behavior would lead.
The Witch's Kiss is a fabulous series about magic, family, friendship and curses. I liked that The Witch's Tears contains another interesting part of the history of the coven Merry is part of and it was fun to find out more about sorcerers as well. I loved Katharine and Elizabeth Corr's vivid descriptions of magic and the story kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending is terrific and I can't wait to read more about Merry and Leo. I love stories about siblings and highly recommend this one. it's wonderfully enchanting, entertaining and charming.

The Witch’s Tears by sisters Katharine and Elizabeth Corr is another spectacular book written by the two. This is the second book in their series. A must read should be The Witch’s Kiss, the first book in the series and the beginning of the story. You can read my review for the first book right here.
The second book of the series, picks up right where the first one finishes and carries on the rollercoaster of a story that is The Witch’s Tears. The second book follows Merry and her brother Leo searching for normalcy whilst trying to grieve for the people they loved who were lost in the first book. But nothing goes to plan or how Merry wants them to when a spade of witch’s deaths reach close to Merrys’ door. Without knowing how to control her uncontrollable powers whilst being on the wrong side of her new covens list of demands, Merry has no idea what to do or who to turn to in her time of need. Her brother Leo is no longer her confidant, struggling with his lover’s death, their relationship isn’t what it used to be and neither of them knows how to ask for help when they need it the most. With her mother and grandmother out of commission, Merry is stuck with the help of an un-trustable wizard whom she doesn’t know if she can talk to her problems about, let alone trust and move on with him.
I am going to admit that I kind of struggled with the first few chapters of this book. It has been a long while since I read the first book, probably even almost a year, so trying to remember everyone and everything that happened in the first story is hard. I think a little paragraph giving a quick reminder of what happened in the first book would have been helpful, but none the less as you get further along in the story, the better it gets. And then the unthinkable happens. It finishes, it stops, and by Christ I hope there is another book to follow.
The writing is spectacular and just as good as the first book. The story is well written and well-paced and never misses a beat. It is intense, mysterious and never lets its guard down about who the bad person could be. It is spot on and a must read.
If you like adventure, fantasy and a bit of heartbreak all in one, then this is the book for you.

I am pretty surprised with this book. Honestly after the first one I was really wondering if I should continue reading the saga, but I'm glad I did.
The sotry takes part 3 months after Marry defeats a powerful wizard and now struges with the distrust and fear of the witches f her coven. I like the way the autors show the support she gets from her Gran and Mom after what we saw in the first book. The detachment of her brother was a bit of a surprise. I really whought they were going to bond even more after what they went through in book 1.
The story took a relly interesting twist. Almost al the time i was wondering who the real vilan is and is Marry going to give in because of the covens behaviour. I like how her character evolves and begins to overcome the fear of using magick freely. After breaking almost every rule made by here witch sisters, she really takes a risk to go after and save her brother. Not every sister is going to do this :)

I can't wait to strart reading the third one so I can finaly see what will happen.

With more involvement from the coven, which Merry’s grandmother is head of, Merry continues to try to learn their rules and the ‘right’ way to do magic. She doesn’t always like their methods, but Merry tries so hard to learn and help them, even when she’s judged and dismissed, hurt at how they treat her when she occasionally messes up a spell she’s in the middle of learning.
There’s more involvement from Leo, Merry’s brother, with him grieving and coming to terms with what happened. I was glad to see him more as well as more of his sibling relationship with Merry, seeing how it all feels from his non-magical side of things and how at times it must be so frustrating for him to be in a world of magic and only able to help in ways that don’t involve it.
For most of the book I wanted to hug Merry and Leo and help them through their grief, but they both deal with it in their own ways and as for the ending, I seriously hope there’s more. It can’t end like that and leave me not knowing, I need more!
As for second book syndrome? Nope, none of it. The story is thought out and interesting, starting off a little slow but soon picking up. I had the book finished in no time and already I’m having withdrawals.
Did I like the book? Yes.
Did I love it? Also a yes.
Would I recommend it? Yes! If you’ve read the first one, The Witch’s Kiss, and were left wanting more like I was, read it.

The Witches Tears is an incredible story of witches, age old curses, and forbidden love. The Witch’s Kiss sets a very high standard, and the sequel totally knocks it out of the park, with heart break, fights, and it’s considerably darker than the first book, which makes it all the more awesome.
Merry is still a very unusual witch, having to deal with the events of the first book, and is struggling with the rules and work of being part of a coven, but still the other witches do not take her seriously. But when a mysterious stranger walks into their lives, and offers help and friendship, can he be trusted? Learn more in this dark but epic book!
My favourite character is (still!) Leo, Merry’s brother, because he has to put up with Merry through everything, and even when times get rough, he looks out for Merry. However, I also loved Finn, as he was, to put it simply, awesome. My favourite part is the ending, as it was just brilliant, however, it was quite expected.
The third person perspective was clever as it aided the story telling brilliantly. It also helped give a big overview of the characters, but I personally would’ve loved to see a first person perspective from Merry, Leo, or even Ronan or Finn as I feel like that could’ve been more exciting and instill a more personal connection to the characters.
Katherine and Elizabeth Corr are fabulous at making fantasy situations still relatable for the reader. Everything made sense, and the ending was again brilliant, but a bit scarier! It leaves the book on a massive cliff-hanger, which will get resolved (hopefully!) for the next book, which I hope comes out soon!!
I would recommend this book to any lovers of the Hush Hush series or the Fallen series. I hope you enjoyed this just as much as I did, and I am SUPER excited about the next book!!!!!

Sometimes you wake up and are like: "No, I don't feel like reading the book I had planned, I want to read another book!" and that's exactly what happened to me yesterday. I woke up and wanted to read this book and who am I to not listen to my gut feeling? Exactly! And so yesterday evening, after the prologue of the Vuelta was done, I picked this book up and started reading.
This book reads just as fast and easily as the first book. The writing style is really nice and flowing and the book does never give too much information. It skips days without a problem, especially when nothing interesting is happening, and therefore the story moves along quite nicely. On top of that it once again contains so many wonderful fairytale elements! I really love all those nods and winks.
But, the book did lack something that the first book had. The first book was magical, truly magical. It was like reading a fairytale. This book didn't have that atmosphere and I was a little disappointed by that. I was really hoping for another fairytale-like mystery story and that's not what this book was. But, I have great hopes that this book was building up towards the third book and that the third book will be just as epic as the first.
Because the ending of the book, of this story, was clearly the beginning of another one, of a more interesting one. It was as if this entire book was nothing but a built up towards that epic conclusion. It was as if this book was nothing but the bridge between the first and the last book, a book that had to be written and a story that had to be told to get to the more interesting part.
And I can't wait to read it!

When I read the first book I really loved it but there was times where it was slightly disappointing, but I was still excited to read the next one.
Oh my word! I love love loved it! Leo is my favourite character, I love reading from his pov on things. I liked watching Leo and Merrys relationship be like every other sibling relationship, where they have their fights, they make up, have ups and downs and to be there for each other makes me happy. It was nice to see Leo finding someone and falling for him and making him happy after loosing Dan. The coven, I have no love for them, to me they toss Merry aside because they can't control her and think she's dangerous is bullshit. Having them not try and make her into something she's not is amazing, it feels better and natural when a coven doesn't have this one person they make out to be the all and mighty powerful one.

I only finished this book the other day, and I have to say I was really happy with this addition to the series. After the first book, I was really wondering how Merry's story was going to evolve and how she would recover from the repercussions of some of the scenarios that took place. I was really happy to find that Merry struggled with had happened before. Not to say that I enjoyed her suffering but I liked that it was realistic, that she had to take time to recover from the past events like a person in real life would. I very much feel that when I'm reading fiction sometimes, the lead characters always manage to get over a loss or a traumatic event at a convenient rate.
Another aspect of this book that really loved, was a factor that was key in the initial book; that Leo and Merry's close sibling relationship was still the main one. I find it very refreshing to have a young adult book that doesn't necessarily focus on the romantic relationships in the story, and instead has the two siblings as the lead characters and their relationship with each other being the driving point.
I adored the addition of the new characters in this book, Finn and Ronan were both great. I loved that they brought out sides in Merry and Leo that we didn't necessarily see in the first story, and that allowed the lead characters to develop in their own ways.
Another aspect I really liked about this sequel is that due to the plot, it allowed us to see more of Merry's humour, there was so much quips that made me giggle, one of favourites was -
"Sorry. Must have missed the issue of Celebrity Wizard with your face on the cover."
I just loved seeing the sassiness, the attitude.
And to finish this review, I have to say, I really thought I had the story figured out, and to a point I did, and then it full front smacked me in the face and I was so happy with the surprises in store. Im not going to say much else, because I really feel like you should read it and just discover it everything on your own. So, I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I did.

4...Wow...I guess, in this case the sequel was better! And the epilogue's cliff hanger has me wanting to jump into the next segment in this series...I feel like the introduction of new characters really help this book along, BUT it still had so annoyingly drawn out parts...Worth the read...And a great many questions unanswered!

I was able to borrow the second book in this trilogy from my local library having found it very difficult to locate any copies in local bookstores. The story was engaging and the writing very readable - a very interesting series and I look forward to reading the finale to learn the fate of Merry, Leo, Jack and Finn.

This was a great sequel to The Witch's Kiss. I was a bit worried at the start as it took me awhile to get into but it soon picked up.
In this book, Merry's Gran is kidnapped and the majority of the book is spent trying to find her. The coven decides that Merry can't help so Merry does some investigative work by herself. We are introduced to some new characters in this book Finn who is a wizard and is trying to help his brother who is under some sort of spell. We also meet Ronan who Leo falls for.
One thing that I really liked in the first book was the relationship between Leo and Merry. I really enjoy reading about a good sibling relationship. In this book, their relationship was not the same as in the first book as they were constantly arguing which I didn't like.
The last part of the book was full of action and there was so much that happened. I had guessed who the bad guy was but I didn't know what was going to happen at the end. I can't believe the massive cliffhanger that this book is left on and I can't wait to read the last book I just wish I didn't have to wait a whole year.

The Witch's Tears is the sequel and this book focuses on Merry learning and failing still how to manage her magic and finally get it to work right for her.
We also see the arrival of some new male characters, Leo's new love interest, Ronan, whom steps in to stop Simon beating up Leo after he's come out as gay. Then we meet Finn whom ends up trapped in a protective spell cast on Merry and Leo's Grans home after she has disappeared mysteriously and so the main aim of the book is to find their Gran and stop the evil at work quite literally.
We soon learn of enchantment extractors whom steal wizard and witch magic have also killed Flo, Merry's friend so just whom has Merry and Leo's Gran and what are their plans?
The Witch's Tears being set only three months apart, shows how love and loss can be healed and then another form of the same issue can arise. Grief is big in the book and I expect more to come in the next book but I'm not going to spoil anymore of the plot in The Witch's Tears.

I was really excited to read this book as I thoroughly enjoyed the first one! I liked the magic but wasn't too happy with the brother-sister relationship that was shown in this book. There was a lot of action towards the end which felt like it wasn't enough, but the huge cliffhanger at the end left me wanting more..!

The Witch’s Tears is an amazing sequel to the Witch’s kiss which leaves you wanting more!
It introduces some new characters that have not only have an interesting roles in the story but also give the story more depth.
Also, the plot itself, in my opinion, was better constructed; more things were going on and it felt more as a whole story.
It has great twists and turns but not too many, just enough to fully enjoy the story and...

I hated the characters (sorry) but I loved the story and I HAVE to read the next instalment so it sounds like a successful book to me. (I don't feel the need to read book one but this one ends on a real cliffhanger). Recommended for younger readers, who probably won't be turned off by teenage tantrums from nosy, aggressive girls and don't mind unimaginative, bossy adults who screw everything up, but WILL enjoy a good witchy yarn.

I thought I'd picked up a fantasy trilogy but it didn't seem like it with this book. While well-written, I feel like this installment didn't really add much to the overall story and maybe The Witch's Kiss is better as a standalone. However, seeing as I've already got book 3 I will see the series through.

solid follow up to The Witches Kiss, it felt much slower than the first book much more winding with a lot of teenage sulking. hopefully the 3rd book ramps up the danger and the tension.
