I've already seen similar theme of 365 bible stories whenever I check the children's book section in the bookstore. The huge difference is that this version by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut is much better compared to those I've seen before. Some of the differences I can cite are: each story is printed per page, the font is bigger that's why it is readable, and that the illustrations drawn by Alessia Girasole are full page. Therefore, this book is much appealing and pleasant to read than the current available versions in the market.

Thank you to the publisher for providing the ARC of this book.

This is a great book to read to children! I appreciated that there are lesser-known stories included, and I feel like reading one or two stories each day will give children a deeper knowledge of the entirety of the Bible. The illustrations are simple and colorful, perfect for younger children. Each page is a summary of a story in the Bible, and while they are portrayed in an age-appropriate manner, I wish that the quotes from what the people said were not put into a modern day narrative, but the actual words spoken from the King James version of the Bible. I think it is important for children to get used to the language of the Bible for when they begin to read it on their own. Overall this is a valuable resource for developing a love of the scriptures in children. There is even a ribbon bookmark attached to hold your place!

A wonderful hardback storybook that covers the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Children age three and up will love to have these one page nightly stories read to them. A new one each night for a year. Every page has a beautiful color illustration perfect to interest a child in learning more about that night's story.
You will also find a red ribbon attached to hold your place until the next night. This is a wonderful way to introduce a young child to the Bible and learn of God's great love and care for His creation and man made in His image.
This would make a perfect gift for parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles to purchase for Christmas, birthday, Easter or "just because".

I enjoy Bible story books and I am always interested in new ones that come out. Most of the time the pictures are vibrant and welcoming and pulls you into the story and this one is no exception as it is done in a very simple cartoon like animated images.

This Bible storybook is unique in that it is divided up into 365 stories that can be read throughout the year. They are only a page long and do not take long at all to read if it was read before bedtime or for a newer reader to get through the text on their own. It also is not so long that a child would lose interest, more likely they will want to continue on to the next one. I also like that this particular storybook includes some lesser known Bible stories in them, something I have not necessarily seen in other ones.

All in all, this is a nice addition to the Bible storybooks and would make a lovely gift.

I became interested in reviewing this book when I saw a preview of it online. 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories (inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut's Story of the Bible) illustrated by Alessia Girasole is geared towards children ages 3 and up and, from what I saw in the preview text online, it looked like it might be a pretty good resource to have for teaching kids.

Upon first examining the book I was very pleased to see that they didn't seem to be trying to cut out the more gruesome and sad parts of the Bible. Some of it struck me as sadly amusing, mainly because of the illustrations. To give an example, one of the 'stories' gives the account of the 'scoffing' nobleman who didn't believe Elisha when he said that food would be sold at extremely low prices the following day (there was a severe famine in the land).

The nobleman died the following day from being trampled by people rushing toward the food. This is illustrated (bloodlessly) in the picture accompanying the story. It amused me because the pictures in the book are rather 'cutsey' looking cartoons and are geared more for very young children and here is this illustration of a man being trampled by a bunch of people! It also struck me funny because the back of this book describes it as being a way to make "bedtime reading a delightful learning and faith-building experience for both you and your kids."

One of those 'delightful' stories happens to be one that ends with that ends in this way: "He was knocked to the ground by the crowd and crushed to death." Sweet dreams kids! Just kidding. It's good for kids to learn the truth, and it will probably be a good discussion starter about belief in what God says, assuming that you want a discussion started at bedtime. Or you could just read the next two stories after that. I say two because if you are reading on, in order to end on a happier note, you won't want to end on the next story either as it ends with a man being smothered! An illustration is provided for that one as well though it only shows the man ABOUT to be smothered, not in the process of being smothered (if that's any comfort!).

Sadly, though, there were several exceptions to their accurate accounts of events in the Bible. I'll give three examples:

1. The sections that give the account of Gideon's life end with the statement, "There were, at different times, fifteen judges over Israel. But of them all, Gideon had the most wisdom, courage, and faith." Where did they get that from? Do they even remember what happened later in Gideon's life? Gideon requested that people give him gold, "And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel played the harlot after it there; and it became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house. "(Jdg 8:27) That doesn't give the impression that Gideon was even close to being the best judge of Israel.

2. When speaking of the account of David and Bathsheba, this book says that when David saw her "He loved her and wanted her to be his wife" and so he had her husband Uriah killed. No… David committed adultery with Bathsheba before having her husband killed and he apparently had no intention of taking Bathsheba for his own wife until he had learned that she was pregnant and couldn't set things up to make it seem as though Uriah was the father. That's when he had Uriah killed. The people who put this together didn't have to go into great detail of course, but they didn't have to resort to giving inaccurate Biblical history.

3. The same with the account of Saul in the cave. This book says that he rested in the gave while David and his men were hiding in there (it even has a picture of Saul wrapped in a blanket sleeping in the cave), and that David cut a corner of Saul's robe while he was sleeping. But, that of course was not what Saul was doing. They could have said that he was "using the bathroom" or "relieving himself" and let parents do the explaining. Or they could have just said that he was in a cave. But say that the Scriptures say something that they did not say!

One more thing, and this is somewhat minor, the words used in the book could have been dumbed down a bit more, down to the level of a little kid's intellect. Instead of saying, "He remained there", they could have said, "He stayed there." Or Instead of "He wept", they could have said "He cried" and so on. Not only would it make it easier for little kids to understand but it would make it more consistent with other parts of the book where they actually did change it to more modern vernacular. They used statements like, "It was stinky", "Come on" and "You're phonies!". So why do that with only some of the text and yet leave others that are easily changed to something simpler?

The pictures are interesting and kids like looking at them (a couple of my little brothers seem to like them), they generally fit well with the stories. though not all of them are accurate. I'm pretty sure that Aaron should be illustrated as being older than Moses, not younger (Moses has grey hair and Aaron has brown hair in this book). I mainly wish that they had chosen not to depict Christ in the illustrations, or at least not to show His face. That would be more respectful. Instead they make Him look like a European man with long hair.

Overall, though, the people who put this book together seem to have done a pretty good job in many of the 'stories' they recount, sticking closely to the text of the Bible in their summaries. My little brother enjoyed listening to some of it and talking about the pictures. Just be ready to read it with scrutiny, and with verbal criticism and explanation to make sure that your kids are getting accurate information.

Let’s talk for a minute. I was sorta excited when I was notified that Barbour Publishing reached out to me via NetGalley to review this book. At the time I didn’t even give a moments thought to reading an illustrated children’s book via my Kindle app. Until… Goobie broke the tablet. Without a tablet that left me with two reading options. My phone, which while convenient is small and my computer which is very inconvenient but has a large screen. Obviously, the quantity of reading I do the phone was the only option. Truth be told, I spend more time swiping pages than reading since I’m like old and blind, but it works. Until children’s books with illustrations come along. The Minions of Mischief aren’t allowed to play on my phone so reading with them on it was a challenge. I couldn’t hand them the book with a ‘have at it’ so to speak.

Let’s talk illustrations first. With the phone issue and some constant issues with NetGalley formatting the pictures came out chopped up and awkward. Off to Amazon we went to actually see some of the pictures from the book. The ones I were able to view were whimsical yet realistic. Perfect for a young child to an older middle grade child as well. In the words of MooMoo they weren’t ‘babyish’. Based on the pictures that I viewed I liked that they dominated the page. For an emerging reader the smaller print may be overwhelmed by the pictures and a distraction but I still liked it that way.

Let’s talk story. Now I should make you very aware that the copy of this book I received from NetGalley is not the full book but a sample, so I can only speak to the handful of stories I had access to for this review. I liked that the stories seem to progress through the Bible chronologically. I like that they take the Biblical truth for each story and provide the reference book and verses so that they can be gone back to in a parent’s preferred version. They are concise for younger children but share the clear message of the Bible passage for older readers.

Let’s talk title. I feel like this is not so much a bedtime book as more a children’s companion Bible so to speak. There are many (many!) Children’s Bibles out there. There aren’t a lot for the emergent reader into middle grade reader however. This feels more like something on that vein than a bedtime storybook. I felt like this book has the potential to serve as a Children’s Bible for an audience that is lacking true Biblical exposure. Many of the Children’s Bibles the older two Minions feel are too young for them.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut is a beautifully illustrated collection of bible stories from the Old and New Testaments for children of all ages. Starting with the story of creation Jesse Lyman Hurlbut takes us on a journey through a biblical timeline that children not only hear, but see through the tender illustrations that are provided for the reader. A perfect book for children too young for an adult or teenage bible, but in need of learning as much as they can about God and the roots of their faith. Both children and adults together can enjoy these stories and there is one for every day of the year. What a beautiful way of starting or ending your child’s day.

I enjoyed 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories as it relayed Old and New Testament knowledge, but in a way children can grasp, break down and remember. Each story leads to the next in a timeframe that stays true to its biblical period. At times I felt like I was reading a bible just for children instead of bible stories and the illustrations that the book provided were sweet and beautifully done. The beauty of 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories is your children can journey every day for a year, learn about their faith and be the better for it.

If your children are unfamiliar with the bible or bible stories 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories is the perfect way to introduce them to God and their faith. If your children are familiar with bible stories then 365 Classic Bedtime Stories can expound their knowledge and the tender illustrations make those stories come to life. Let 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories make your Christmas shopping list for your children or grandchildren. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for the season (or any occasion) and an excellent way to start your loved ones New Year.

I want to thank Barbour Publishing, Inc via NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut for a fair and honest review.

Beautiful Illustrations accompany these quick short reads. Starting at the time of creation to the ministry of Christ and his ministry and crucifixion. They are short enough to hold the interest of the youngest reader but written to be enjoyed by younger teens as well. Share the stories found throughout the Bible that you grew up on with your younger readers.

MY THOUGHTS
What I liked about this Bible story book is that the print was larger than others I have seen. That makes it easier for those little ones to read or for parents and grandparents to read to them. I also liked the colorful large illustrations that went with each story. These lovely illustrations help the little ones understand the story. The stories are from both the Old Testament and the New Testament so the children get a wide variety of Bible stories. Children need a good foundation to start their lives and Bible stories can start to root their faith in God. I liked that there is a story for each day. It makes it so you don't have to stop reading a story and continue the next evening. Little ones have a short attention span and with the stories being able to be read one a night, you have a story for each day of the year. It doesn't have to be at bedtime. It could be anytime. Children love to learn new things. They love being read to to and reading themselves. What also is nice is that you don't have to be a young child, you can be young at heart. It's for children and adults alike. A fun, interesting way to learn about the Bible. This is the perfect time of year to get this book for anyone as a Christmas gift or for any occasion. It can be put by the bedside and at sleepy time, a lovely story to fall asleep to.

I would recommend this book to anyone. A great way to start that faith and learn about the Bible.

365 Classic Bedtime
Bible Stories
Inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut's Story of the Bible
Illustrations by Alessia Girasole

Looking for a new Bible bedtime devotional for the upcoming year? One that you can share with your little reader? Well, this one might be what you are looking for. The stories start with Creation and continue through Revelation. Each page is one day and is a summarization of a Bible passage. The Bible passage from which each story is taken is referenced before the story is related.

The illustrations are throughout and should capture children's attention. My only complaint with the illustrations is the lack of skin pigmentations. This area of the world was a major trade route so there should have been more racial diversity.

There is an index at the back broken down into Old Testament and New Testament so that one can search for a person, place, or thing based on the Testament.

The book is hardcover with what appears to be a stitched binding. There is a red ribbon place marker attached to the spine so that one's place can be easily marked through the year. This book is aimed more towards younger children, I'm thinking 3 - 8 years of age. This is a time to share with your children so be sure to read the Bible references with your children to add more depth to the story beyond this short summarization.

365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories: Inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut's Story of the Bible with Illustrations by Alessia Girasole is described as recommended for kids ages 3 and up, but in my opinion the language is much better suited for older kids at least 5 years old. The pictures are cute but the writing isn't really even a 'story', just an overly-simplified explanation of the Biblical passage it comes from, and some not very Biblically-accurate at that. I found several of the stories not really something you would want your children pondering as they fall asleep, such as the man being trampled to death or the one being smothered in his sleep. Nightmares, anyone? As a parent who was begged night after night to 'read just one more, Mommy', I don't feel as if these very short 'stories' will be enough to satisfy a young child. I did think the thicker paper pages, the hardcover backing, and the silky red bookmark ribbon were good aspects of the actual book, I just hesitate to recommend this as a 'bedtime' Bible story book. I think it would be better used as a teaching devotional type book when read in addition to the Bible references for each page.

I am very impressed with this beautiful hardcover book that was inspired by Jessie Lyman Hurlbut's Story of the Bible. There are 365 Bible stories listed chronologically according to their order in the Holy Bible and each page features one Bible story with the Bible scripture referenced. I also appreciate that there is an index that lists the names and subjects mentioned in these stories and they are shown as either Old or New Testament entries. The illustrations by Alessia Girasole are visually appealing and the text has been written so that both young and middle readers will find them entertaining and easy to read. This book is suitable for children of all ages and my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter loves looking at the colorful pictures as I read the stories to her. I recommend 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories as the perfect book to introduce young people to God's Word!

I have been privileged to be chosen to read and review “365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories”, inspired by Jesse Lyman Huribut’s Story of the Bible, and illustrated by Allessia Girasole. Since I have a five-year-old granddaughter, I jumped at the chance to read this book.

I found this to be a wonderfully and insightfully written book for children. I feel that it introduces the young person to the bible and its stories. Keeping the stories short and to the point is especially good for children, and a good end of day reading for them. The illustrations are very colorful and seem to be pointed toward the type of pictures that would interest children.

I will be giving this book to my granddaughter to enjoy for the next 365 days.

This is an attractive devotional storybook for introducing young children to the Scriptures. Each page has a simple retelling of a Bible passage (notated), and a colorful illustration. Several stories are carried over into a second day. One unusual and helpful part of this book is a topical index, which enables readers to quickly find a particular person or subject. And there are quite a few topics you don't find in most Bible story books - Amaziah's idolatry, or the cities of refuge, to name a few. There are several places where I would have chosen a different, more accurate word. For example, when Daniel requests a different diet it says: "Please don't make me dishonor MYSELF," when he clearly sought GOD'S honor. Or the title of several pages about Jesus healing on the Sabbath - does He "IGNORE" or (more correctly) FULFILL the Sabbath? But overall, this is a high-quality book and would make a great gift for children three to ten years old. 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories

Delightfully illustrated, this new addition to the world of Bible bedtime stories, is sure to please both parent and child. Inspired by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut’s Story of the Bible, this bedtime story book begins with Genesis 1:1-19 to Revelation 21:1-22:21, revealing the story of Creation to the New Jerusalem.

Each story is short and written in a simple style that children ages 3 and through early school age will enjoy; although, I must admit to being so pleased with the book, that I shared it with my husband who also enjoyed reading through it. It even has a ribbon bookmark, just like a “real” Bible!

I recommend 365 Classic Bedtime Stories for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, Sunday school teachers; pretty much anyone who enjoys reading stories with children.

365 Classic Bedtime Bible stories reflect all of the book Genesis. From the Garden to Joseph, you and your child will become familiar with these important foundation stories of the bible. Stories that should lead you to the savior Jesus Christ, but disappointingly they did not.

There were some insights that I appreciated but I felt they did not go in depth of the significance of God's plan of redemption. For example Joseph was 30 years old when he came into power, the same age of Jesus when he started his ministry. It is these type of insights that can lead young readers to know Jesus and God's great love. I felt that this missed the mark of opportunity.

If you just want bible stories, this will be ok but if you want something that your children can get their heart wrapped around, I am sorry to say that this does not.

A Special Thank you to Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

This is a solid introduction for children three and older to the stories and the story flow of the Bible. For those who are unfamiliar with the Bible, this collection would be a good introduction.

For a book billed as “Classic Bible Bedtime Stories,” I’d be concerned reading some of these stories to my three-year-old at bedtime.

For example, I’m not too sure about reading about Cain murdering his brother Abel as a bedtime story. And some parts of Joseph’s epic story may be too much at bedtime. At times the story is just the right length for toddlers. But, most of the time, the stories tend to be a little bit longer than most Bible story books for toddlers. A plus is that the illustrations are so good, it may hold the toddler’s attention when the story may go too long.

Gorgeous book and illustrations!

I handed this book over to my daughter, to read to my 2 granddaughters. So, this review reflects how they feel about it.
My granddaughters are ages 4 and 6. They really like the stories. According to my daughter, it's just like reading the regular Bible and it doesn't dumb it down. She says that it's perfect for the ages of her girls. These girls, all 3, are book lovers, so you can take their word for it. I flipped through the book before handing it over and I just love the vivid pictures and the fact that each day is a simple passage from the Bible....365 days reading through the entire Bible.

This is a wonderful book. It is top quality and very well done. This will be for a gift to my great-granddaughter for her mama and daddy to read to her. She already loves books and she is only 2 1/2. A whole year's supply of favorite Bible stories that can last for several years. I believe it could become a favorite for young children to want to hear over and over again.
The illustrations and pictures are excellent, just right for a little one to like seeing.
Some of the stories are about: Moses, Jonah, Hannah, Joseph, Esther, David, Mary and lots more!
This is a great book to have!

A Delightful Bedtime Bible Stories Book For Family
This could be just the book you are looking to get for the family bedtime reading. The Story begins with Genesis and goes through Revelation. The illustrations are beautifully done and are on every page of the book. There is an index in the book if you wish to locate a particular Bible character, place or happening. The writer does an excellent job of telling the story from God’s word. Not too much on a page but enough to get the story told. I know just exactly which family I want to give this book to for Christmas. I highly recommend it.

This book is one that every family should have on their bookshelf! It shares 365 stories from the Bible, each colorfully illustrated. The stories are not excerpts from the Bible, they are explaining certain passages in layman's terms, so it is easier for children (and adults!) to understand. I think it is wonderful that there are so many stories in this book! Plus they each only take up part of a page, so they don't take a long time to read, and kids won't lose interest as easily. I also love the sturdy hardcover and the ribbon bookmark in the binding that lets you keep your place for the next time.

First of all this is a beautifully bound book – hardcover with thick and smooth pages. Sharp color and very well illustrated! Even comes with a red ribbon to keep your place as you read. Each page has a Bible passage listed on it and then the story after it. What I loved was the stories are in chronological order as they are in the Bible – beginning in Genesis and ending with Revelation. Perfect bite-sized retelling of the verses listed. This is wonderful for daily devotions for younger kids! In the back is an Index with key words or phrases to look up the corresponding page if you want a specific subject. This would be the perfect gift for any youngster or family!

This charming illustrated book will delight children and adults. It consists of short Bible stories that begin with the story of creation and ends with our eternity with God.
Each story will build your childs faith as you share these special stories. The colorful pictures help keep your child engaged with the story.
The book is recommended for ages 3 and up.
I really love how appealing this book is, it could be used in Sunday school class, or before naptime or any other reading time. This would make a great gift.

This is a collection of 365 short stories from a storybook Bible, and it is a great resource for young readers. The text is Biblically accurate, a fact that is often overlooked by books of this type. The illustrations are somewhat cartoonish, but they are appropriate for young children. My daughters are 8 and 5 and they both enjoyed the stories and illustrations. This book would be a great birthday or Christmas present, or a gift for baptism, for children or grandchildren to engage them in the Bible at a young age.

I received this as a free ARC from Shiloh Kidz, Barbour Publishing, Inc. on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Well-written stories that, as far as I could tell (in the sample) stayed close to the regular version. Many children's stories edit out pieces, or oversimplify aspects, and these seemed to be perfectly balanced between clearer, more straightforward language without losing the underlying sense and meaning.

I don't tend to post reviews on samples, because they may not be representative of the whole book, but there were a decent number included and it's unlikely the rest are wildly different.

I enjoyed getting to review this lovely Bible Story book, based on Hurlbut's Story of the Bible. Each story is short and simple, perfect for reading to a busy toddler. I can see my 2-year-old loving this book! The pictures are also simple and colorful, although I don't like the cartoonish aspects of them very well. They aren't nearly as offensive to me as many I've seen, however. The pages are very attractive, with the story being printed on the picture.
