Come away, O human child...

No matter the job, no matter the client, Tarot-reading magical artifacts hunter Sara Wilde has only one hard-and-fast rule: protect the children. But the newest strain of technoceutical drugs--specifically designed to alter psychic children's DNA--has thrown the arcane black market into a frenzy. As mistress of the House of Swords, Sara pits the power of her worldwide criminal syndicate against insidious enemies and even more treacherous allies to combat the threat, but it's not enough. To destroy these drugs at their source, she must break her cardinal vow and put a child at risk.

Guided by a boy altered by technoceuticals, Sara races to derail the modernization of an ancient ritual devoted to a malevolent god. Except the children aren't her only responsibility any longer. The Magician of the Arcana Council and her own House demand her focus as the war on magic erupts violently in several hot spots around the globe.

Sara's pretty sure things can't get more complicated, until she discovers who is leading one of the other four fabled mortal Houses of Magic...a discovery that brings her face-to-face with the mother she's never known.

Family skeletons just won't stop dancing when you're a Wilde Child.

*My Thoughts*

The seventh installment in author Jenn Stark's Immortal Vegas series Wilde Child, finds Sara Wilde traveling to Iceland to look for an artifact known as Gods Nails, Barcelona where a terrorist attack pushes a group of Revenants into the open, Tokyo where she meets Annika Soo's Sensei, and Mexico City where she finds herself up against a new and dangerous God who Sara has a connection to, and the possibility that an old adversary has returned. Let's not forget that this series is centered in Las Vegas, so there are some scenes there as well.

4.5 Stars... An adrenaline rush from the very start and never lets up... From God's Nails, to the Fountain of Youth, to machinations amongst the Houses and Council, to Revenants, and last but certainly not least the answer as to Sara's maternal parentage and the secrets it reveals... An adventure spanning the globe from Iceland to Las Vegas to Mexico, Jenn Stark takes her readers on a vast journey of epic proportions and supernatural mysticism... A truly spectacular an highly entertaining read from start to finish filled with both humor and heart and a bit of kick ass heroine thrown in for good measure... I am absolutely addicted to this series:)

Wilde Child is a tempestuous affair! The series has reached a multi-dimensional level of narrative. The arcane cards have come together, mapping out a world full of complexities and unknowns, revealing a vast portrayal of the Immortal Vegas world. Stark delves deeper into Sara's past and powers in this latest installment. The adventures to find answers and help save the children grow more dangerous. Sara continues to grow, as a woman and the mistress of the House of Swords plus her powers manifest to new levels. Her travels to Mexico unearth one of the greatest mysteries of the series to date. Once again, Stark unveils the buried and tortured paths of her villains, indulging readers to immerse with the series. The Magician never disappoints as he is never far from Sara. He becomes even more otherworldly and down right sexy. I yearn for more of Sara and the Magician, intertwined horizontally. I want more of it all. I will be on the edge of my seat until the next release.

Sara Wilde has been progressing quite well in her role as head of the House of Swords. So when the mysterious Gamon reenters the picture targeting a select group of Connecteds and then the technoceutical market is in an uproar over a new drug, Sara knows it’s no coincidence. In order to avoid more deaths, namely the deaths of more children, Sara will be forced to break one of her cardinal rules by relying on a child to lead her into the path of danger.

Forever Wilde, in my opinion, was a big game changer in the series. While Wilde Child didn’t feel to me as “epic” as its predecessor, it definitely doesn’t hold back on the revelations or moving the story arc forward exponentially.

Sara felt more mature in this book. She’s settling into her job as Head of a House and the understanding that she can’t be frivolous with her life by running head-first into trouble. Though trouble will seem to find her wherever she goes, Sara at least makes the effort to work with her team. This includes taking her general Ma-Singh’s advice by learning to hone her natural Connected abilities.

Here enters my favorite new character, who I hope we’ll see more of in books to come, Sensei Chichiro. Chichiro immediately represents an alternative to The Magician. She’s less mysterious with the information she imparts upon Sara. Her presence immediately made me think she could be a more calming influence upon Sara’s abilities, and as of now she seems to want to help Sara for Sara’s sake as opposed to some ulterior motive. I think it’s important for Sara to get out from under the thumb of the Council and Wilde Child sees her heading in that direction, the first steps being when Sara visits Sensei Chichiro.

This leads into the fact that Wilde Child doesn’t have the heat and the tension between Sara and The Magician that we’ve come to expect from previous books, and I for one, liked the departure. I want to see Sara come into her own, on her own terms, and not as dictated by The Magician, for all that I ship them like crazy. I think the only way to do this is to show Sara finding other means of learning her powers. Even though I say there’s not as much heat and tension, there’s a more familiarity around their interactions and I enjoyed the more comfortable repartee they show one another. It can be likened to more of a partnership, working together on equal footing, than one person having all the power on their side. Which is apt because Sara’s power have grown exponentially since the beginning of the series, and I’m guessing The Magician knows he can no longer hold her inexperience over her.

Wilde Child delves further into Sara’s own mysterious past, and with this comes the revelation of where Sara comes from. The repercussions of this discovery will more than likely be something explored in the next book and I can’t wait to see where it all leads.

This is an urban fantasy about a woman who is trying to protect the gifted magic children of the world from organ traffickers. They can make drugs out of their heart that will alter regular joe people to the magically enhanced. There is some violence; guns, swords, magic and the heroine gets hurt a LOT. But don't let that put a damper on the story because she can heal at an accelerated rate. That's not all! She's in love with the Magician of the Arcane Council but won't acknowledge it out loud. She's also an artifact thief. She steals the artifacts before the bad people get them to create more mayhem. Can it get any better?

I love this series. Absolutely LOVE it. Author Stark makes this world come alive and I feel like I'm one of Sara's trusted few that are sitting right next to her and trying my best to protect her and help her save the Connected children of the world. Don't worry if you don't like romance as the main story line because the story of Sara/Magician is not a huge focus. It's more of a "Oh, by the way...". Like I said, Sara is dedicated to trying to eradicate the black market for children. I could go into all sorts of detail, but it'd be better to read the story.

I would suggest that the series be read in order. It builds the world and the circumstances around how Sara gets to where she is in her life. IMO, that's very important part of the series. She is on a journey that is simply not as easy as saving children - not that it easy by any means. A LOT of characters are recurring so that makes the ride more fun because I got to watch them evolve right along with Sara. Once a person is encompassed in Sara's world, they'd better hold on for a Wilde ride.

The story is a ride that only Sara Wilde can ride. No one else can do what she does and that's because of who she is. I especially like Sara because she's not Superman. She doesn't have all of her power figured out and she doesn't know what will happen next. Everything is totally off script for her and her friends. She takes risks, she pays for them dearly, but the risks are worth it to her.

I am unashamedly biased towards loving this series, and eagerly await for every addition. Wilde Child is no exception - I inhaled it rapidly, and now can't wait to find out what happens next!

I LOVED the new characters in this book - and the development of relationships with the existing characters. There were a few "I did NOT see that coming" moments, and lots of other moments of "Of COURSE - that makes so much sense". AND we finally meet Sara's mother.

The whole book had a slower feel to me. That’s not to say that it wasn’t exciting or action-packed or interesting, it was just a feeling I got whilst reading it. Frankly, with what’s coming down the line I don’t think it’s a bad thing! It certainly gave us some extra depth and breadth to this wonderful series!

So much to say, yet with so many spoilers it would ruin it for you all. Suffice to say: buy it, buy it, BUY IT!!!

Whole Lot of The Crazies

This whole book was nuts. I wanted to smack Sara a few times. She isn't always so well served by that stubbornness of hers.

I am loving her inner circle, though.

And now we know who Sara's mother is and that Gamon is a huge fan. The Hermit has a ton of explaining to do.

Another fast-paced instalment in the Immortal Vegas series that sees Sara levelling up yet again (but then so are her antagonists). I'm really enjoying this series and will definitely read it to the end, although I'm not sure if I'll go on with the one that follows it or take a break for a while.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A series still addictive but with small flaws ...
A little more mythological stuff in this book like I like (Iceland, Mexico ...) and Sara finally accepts her role at the head of the House of Swords =)
We finally meet her mother (and OMG OMG !!!)
I was a little more skeptical about the God Nails ... Neither Sara nor her allies seem to have too many scruples to use them when they influence people's minds and typically this is the kind of artefacts ultra dangerous with big consequences ...
I still like this series but for me, the main plot drags too long and moreover the originality of this series is the Concil and we see them less and less ...
I wish I could have rated in half stars, for I would give this latest Jenn Stark a 4.5, reserving 5 for only the very best.
On the other hand, this latest edition of the Sara Wilde series zoomed by faster than that House of Swords jet. I pre-ordered the book, watched as it dropped into the Kindle shortly after midnight on the 17th, and deliberately put off reading it while I finished up a somewhat inferior novel. And it still burned through only a few hours.
If you've gotten this far in the series you know the characters are alive and fun, the locales are crisp and solid, the escapes novel yet still hairs-breadth and the words are full of magic. This novel, which pits Sara against the deadly arch-rival Gamon, is among the best. And for weapons she has only her loyal Tarot and a couple of sticks. It's hardly enough, because Gamon will steal her heart - the very first chance she gets.
Who's the mama?
Maternal instincts run through this latest instalment like words through a stick of rock. It's showing an up close and personal side of Sara and her willingness to risk all to protect the innocent.
If this is the first Jenn Stark you have a good of I strongly recommend you hold fire, goto book 1. They're wonderful if read in order. A decent read if picked up out of it, but there's so much you're going to miss.
I love this series for many reasons and this adventure seems to be an Empire Strikes backline of book. You'll love the up close personal reveal of Sara's parentage or you'll wish for more of the magician/Wilde romance. I
Personally I adored it, though I'm going straight to book 8 and hoping for both more Friedman and the Arcane council.
Sara races into a probable trap to find the antidote to the drugs that were given to the rescued children, and to the heinous drug being let loose on the public with dire side effects. A new relic, The Gods Nails, have immense power over connecteds and has chosen Sara as the wielder of choice. A visit to a reclusive connected unlocks a striking ability. And then there's Mommy dearest. Not. The magician cannot see ahead what is in store for Sara, now mistress of the House of Swords, and what's ahead is a horror movie of epic proportions. This book was a thriller ride. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.
Great... But...
I love the book but honestly, I feel like the house of swords was a secondary story that I want to be over but just won't end. I love the arcade council and the magician and feel like the story is getting more complicated and drifting away from that. Honestly, it feels like each new installment is over too quickly and ends before it answers any of the questions it raised.
Love Sara but I want more of the characters to have some downtime.
Awesome well written book! Sara's life is undergoing some major changes. Her family is expanding and she is experiencing many personal discoveries! Her personal life is still swinging with Armaeus, how far will it go? A lot of thought provoking stuff is occurring and will continue as we learn about the different houses. I am looking forward to the next book! Writing a review is difficult because you do not want to give too much information and spoil your reading this excellent book!
Things have definitely hit peak in this outing for Sara and co. More especially because we find out who her mum is (we already know who her dad is!) and frankly we probs saw this coming way back in Book 2. Gamon is still the Big Bad in this book and there's lots of betrayal and treachery and I'm still confused by why she continues to work with/for the Council when it's obvious they do not have her best interests at heart. Ah well....
Cool twist at the end!
I prefer scifi/ fantasy stories with grit and horror to at least balance the humor and romance...dark humor a plus. These books do that with a decent plot. The ending here was satisfying for me and I'd been thinking about it for a few books. I'd like to learn more about the characters, their origins and friendships, and explore Sara's powers more...maybe add a few more characters. So happy I can say...on to the next book now...because its already out!
A little confusing
There was so much going on in this book that made it a bit hard to follow. More about Sarah being the leader of her House and less about her personal relationships. Disappointing there wasn't more interaction with Armaeus and the rest. Still plenty of action and revelation.
As always, it's a real treat to have a new book about Sara and her companions (and the Magician).
This was a little bit different though, in a very good way.
Sara is really growing into her power(s).
Looking forward to her next adventures
Thank You Ms Stark
Continued adventure!
The main character in The Wilde books is complicated for sure. But there is something about her that you can’t help but admire. Her sense of right & wrong & wanting to protect the innocent.
The flow of this book had a few issues. It started strong but ebbed a little in the middle before ending perfectly. I’ve already one-clicked the next book!
