This is my first Amelita Rae book. It was dark, disturbing and surprisingly sweet.

Not really much to say. As always, miss Rae's work is fantastic. I do love the characters building in this story especially the part where Jessy is a spirited one instead of being a docile, gullible one. And I like the way how Torben took care of his little wife. But it's a bloody cliffhanger .. urghhhhhhhhh 🙄🙄🙄
I really can't wait for next book. The plot and the story is truly fantastic.

These pandemic days, fluff is not enticing me. What does attract me and hold my interest are darker reads.
This short little number fit the bill! A prison town has no women. Instead, smaller men are taken as wives by those miners who can afford them. A new inmate finds himself being fought over by a number of men—they want him for a wife. He doesn’t go too easily!
Non-con, feminization, humiliation, water-sport, public rape, violence, cannibalism (off page)...
Also: snuggles and submission!

I read the reviews and I knew it was going to have a cliffie.
It was published in 2017, I'm not sure the next book is coming. I guess I thought it was going to be a bit of a HFN type cliffie, not a WTF how will he survive what is going to happen OMG no type cliffie.
But more importantly, who were the big liars that insisted I put this on my Somnophilia Kink book list, which is why I picked it up in the first place, and good somno would have made up for the abrupt fall off a ledge cliffie?!?

I need part two NOW. If I would've known this ended on a cliffhanger, I would have waited in till part two was out. Overall I really like this book. There were some dark parts that I usually don't like reading about. But I really like the characters they seem very sweet and sincere. I can't wait to read more.

I actually really liked this one! It was a great start to a new series.
We were introduced to the characters and world in detail (for Rae) and even got a bit of relationship development between the two MCs! I was surprised by how much personality Jesse (the small one) actually had. Usually they're just small and pretty, but he had some spunk (haha) to him!
Now of course because this is Ameilta Rae (and it's why I love her) we still have scorching hot, dirty sex between the most beautiful, small, delicate boy and a giant of a man with a dick the size of an arm.
But unlike some of her other books that I couldn't quite handle there weren't any serious size discrepancies and gross stretching of orifices. It was most rimming, which I am totally ok with ;-)
Looking forward to the next one! Oh but this does end on a mini cliffy.

Think we coulda gone with less tell and more show, one less sex scene for more character development.
This is a sad (understatement) tale, and poor Jesse goes through the ringer.
This definitely needed more editing. At one point Jesse is called "Akihito"? Uh, what?
It was obvious Toran had been secretly collecting the gems for years. Akihito threaded his fingers through the stones in awe.
I also really would have appreciated a more clear break between which character POV it was. Sometimes it would just shift mid scene.
Just wanted more, and I do think that could have been accomplished even with being so short. And then the "ending"...! I'll just pretend that this ended before that cliffy.
On page rape almost turned into gang-bang.

I finished this 4 days ago, and I can barely remember my opinion on it so I'm confident to say: yep, that's a book you will forget after a night's sleep!
SOOO I expected more than this and was disappointed. That cliffhanger at the last sentence? yeah, not so cool. I believe the book could have managed without it, especially considering it was published eight years ago.

No matter the book, nor if I "like"it, the number of star I give, etc. Some authors can make you look for more, even when you aren't interested in some points of their stories.
The stories that Amelita Rae write are like that, I enjoy to read even when the topic isn't my cup of tea. It's not about rainbows and sugar, I feel uncomfortable and enthralled by the story, she make me think about disturbing facts. But even when I don't like what I read/think, I like to read it.
That said, I enjoyed this one, be ready to be distraught, and enjoy yourself. :D

Delightful, but what's new, right?
Amelita has to be one of my favorites... I don't know how she does it, but no matter the genre or the kinks I just keep coming back for more. I don't think she's written a single thing I've disliked, THIS included. When I got to the last page I cried out in pain... BECAUSE I WANT MORE AHHGH!! Believe when it says part 1, know that you're going to love it, devour it in a single sitting, and then come out with only the regret of wanting (selfishly) more. More of yet another fantasic Amelita world (the mental image of Bull demolishing coal will definitely make it hard to sleep) and sexy, spitfire protags. I can't wait for part 2 ;o;

I wish I had done my research before reading this book. Don’t get me wrong it’s an intense, dark, compelling read. And I would normally recommend and give something like this 5 stars but... the book ends on a complete cliff hanger and when I then go to look up info for part two it’s to find out it’s been over two years since the release of part one and there have been no updates for part 2. So no, don’t read this because it’s an unfinished work and that’s just annoying. You will get no answers nor closure nor ending. So just wait for part two (if it ever comes) and then read both parts.

I usually don't read fantasy type novels, but this author always gets my attention. I was looking for a good short read and this was a pretty good one. My biggest complaint is that it ends in a cliffhanger and there is no Book 2 in sight. Boo!
This wasn't as good as other books I've read by the author, but I certainly liked having the compassionate side shown for the alpha hero in the book. He honestly surprised me with his gruffness that turned into him just wanting a 'wife.' Jesse was interesting. He was timid and the stereotypical twink, but also incredibly naive. I mean I get he was scared (I would be too), but he didn't use common sense a lot and that annoyed me since it could have saved him some heartache and hurt. But in the end, he realizes what's best for him and they seem to have a pretty healthy start to a relationship before the book ends abruptly.
Note: There is a pretty brutal scene at the beginning of the book and I wasn't expecting that, so it can be a trigger for some. It was quite heartbreaking.

This was pretty good. I actually have nothing really to critique here. Part of me is looking at this book as if it were 2017 and I'll living my best life on AO3 but honestly it stands on its own as a solid read.
The story is straightforward, we've seen it before, but also inventive. I have to admit, Amelita Rae is really good at having fully realized concepts in her books. Her ability to take arguably well-loved plotlines from fanfiction and his thumb is pretty impressive.
The writing is good and well edited, the storyline was well thought out, and the smut was pretty great. I'm not going to say it was hot because while it was hot for the most part there was one scene here that I did not love and have to skim. I do wish these characters came with a little more depth to them, I think I would have added to a story nicely and made it stand out a little more (she likes to recycle characters, I'm not sorry for pointing it out). 4 stars as I am genuinely bummed we will never see book 2. Now do you see why I hate cliffhangers?

I read this book so freaking fast LOL
I was intrigued from the beginning I'm not really into reading super grungy scenes with someone being abused, but this was manageable. And to be honest the abusive scene happened for a sad truthful reason. Although it was awful, Toran's reasoning wasn't like.... wrong? And I hate saying that but anyWAY
I LOVE TORAN. What a well spoken gentleman when he wants to be! And to be hoenst I'm a sucker for feminization so I can't even be mad about the little warning about that because it's right up my alley and I was diving in eagerly ready for hte cross dressing and feminization dirty words all of that. But now I am desperately wanting more. The ending leaves with such a cliffhanger just as I was beginning to feel comfortable and eager for Toran and Jesse's relationship to thrive. So AMELITA HURRY AND UPDATE US PLEASE!

3 stars. Well, that was intense. A very dark and gritty read and I honestly wasn't sure how the author was going to turn it around and make it work in the end. I should've never doubted the talent of Amelita Rae because she did it. The progression of how everything played out and the subtle growth and character development of both Jesse and Toran were well done. The smut at the end is kinky and dirty and so hot and they didn't even go all the way! Just filthy foreplay and dirty talk and I couldn't be happier. This book does end on a cliffhanger and I have no idea when the sequel is supposed to be coming out if ever so that's unfortunate because I would love to get a conclusion to their story.

I loved this book, but sadly I read it before realizing that there hasn't been an update for book 2 since like 6 years? It's really sad, not only for the unfinished book, but because, as it seems from my research that Amelita Rae hasn't been active AT ALL. It's like she just disappeared from the public, stopped publishing books & being totally inactive on her Facebook.
I really hope that someday we will get the second book, but I won't get my hopes too high.

I'm not prudish, honestly I read some kinky ish on the regular, but some of the descriptions during the sex scenes were really off putting to me. Nothing as bad as say, The Flesh Cartel (that book hit my limit, I couldn't even finish it), though. I actually liked the plot though, even though plot wasn't really the aim here, and I'd read the next book.

2.5 With this book what you see is what you get. In this short book there was definitely a moment or two that soured my stomach briefly. This is part one of a lager story that I don't know will ever be published or finished. The conclusion of this book does leave you hanging. I believe if I ever get to read part two I would rate them as a set.
