Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’ is the ninth book in Hope Callaghan’s Cruise Ship Christian Cozy Mysteries Series and is a wonderful, clean cozy mystery that doesn’t contain any gratuitous sex, violence, or foul language. The story line is well thought out and the characters are relatable. There’s an interesting mystery, humor, and a touch of sweet romance. The book flows at a steady pace and there are enough twists, turns, and suspects to hold the reader’s interest. This installment even gives the reader a peek into the inner workings of a cruise ship. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Rumors have been spreading quickly on Siren of the Seas cruise ship and Andy Walker, Cruise Director, is holding meetings with ship’s crew and staff in an effort to ease everyone’s mind. Andy lets everyone know that while there is a small change in their schedule, there were no mechanical or financial problems, and that Majestic Cruise Lines wasn’t being bought out by a competitor. He informed them that no new passengers would be boarding when the ship docked on Saturday and that while they are docked in their home port of Miami for the next week, the crew, staff, and contractors would be deep cleaning, renovating, and installing new guest activities. Millie was excited … a week in Miami would mean she could shop for her wedding dress! Millie was concerned when she saw a police car and ambulance parked in front of the dock where Siren of the Seas berthed. Millie’s worried about her friend, Brody Rourke, because the ambulance was for him. Brody says he heard noises that concerned him and when he went to investigate, he saw someone lying on the floor. He was hit from behind and when another crewmember found him, he was alone but there was a small pool of blood on the floor that didn’t belong to him. Millie learns about more incidents involving Brody and threats against him so even though she’s busy with her list of assignments, she’s keeping her eyes on Brody. She ends up visiting portions of the ship where she has never ventured before and meets some interesting people who Annette Delacroix and she bribe with food.
