Renowned Miami detective Anna Dedrick returns to her rural birthplace with hopes of leaving behind the vices of the big city. That dream shatters when the town’s pride--an African-American child prodigy--goes missing. As the only woman equipped for the job, Anna takes the case but soon discovers the town suspecting her estranged brother… and herself.
Fast paced read. Suspenseful, keeps you interested and you want to keep on reading. One thing I really liked...no foul language as it usually is in police novels.
Kidnapped by J.S. Donovan A private investigator from Miami comes back to her hometown to put up her office. She starts remembering all the great memories of her childhood, especially with her brother and father. She was not planning on having a case to work on as soon as she arrived, but the day after she arrives, she receives a call of a missing 11 year old pianist. She gives the case all her time, only to find out she and her brother are the main suspects for the fact that her brother had some criminal records. She tries her best to clear their name. She starts having flashbacks of a tragic event in her childhood and ties it to the case. She fights to collect all the evidence to near death, and finally finds the most evident suspect. Her and the police department think that they have caught the right person but find out that the kidnapper is still on the loose.
Kidnapped is a great book for any reader who enjoys a good thriller. The style in the authors writing gives a good description for the reader. Creating multiple events to keep the reader hooked, and leaving a lot of holes in the text for the reader to think about all the possible outcomes of what could happen next. “ She could hear his boots stomping on the gravel behind her. Anna pressed harder. The rain pelted her face and splashed. Her clothes weighed her down and the wind worked against her. The man’s boots splashed through the mud puddle. Anna closed her eyes and spit rain water out of her mouth. Run, she told herself. Run! Run! Run!”(pg 256/online). Creating these types of scenes this book could guaranty entertainment by making the reader feel anxious and creates a lot of suspense.
Rating of this novel would be a 4 out of 5. It kept me reading but always made me read back to figure out what was being explained and what was occurring in the story. I believe that this novel is for anyone who enjoys to be left with a question and have the need to keep reading. When transitioning between chapters the reader was always left hanging, making the reader want to read more. I would also recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys mystery and police investigation.
This book has you on the edge of your seat. It seemed like every time it seemed like she was getting close the master mind would slip through her finger like oil. I am so glad she was able to face her abuser in more ways than one. Poor Keisha and then her niece. So much extensive therapy is going to be needed for everyone all around. I felt for her brother. Just because he didn't fall in the realm of normal. It was wrong that they tormented him like that. That woman...loosely referring to her on that point, who says that he raped her when I know the only reason why she said that mess is because she got caught. I wish someone would have exposed her dirty little secret but that may or may not happen. It is what it is at that point. The Sheriff is such a frustrating stupid man. Every single time he tries to cut her out of the loop sge finds a vital piece and damn near dies. He is so freaking preoccupied with getting his five minutes of fame for the capture of the Butcher that he doesn't pay attention to the clues right on front of her face. Then he has the nerve to get righteous and indignet. I am so glad that Keisha is still alive. For an instance I was seriously worried about it. I thought the ending fight was befitting. Although I was kind of sad that they were not able to find the remainder of the missing girls' bodies to put other families at ease. I am also really estastic that her father made it and did not pass. I would have been horrible sad but would have understood since the state of his mind was not always there with his diagnosis. He was making progress with his memory journal. Warmed my heart. I thought things would go fartger with the FBI guy. I am sure that will be a budding romance somewhere down the line.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I've seen some of the other reviews complaining about the lack of resolution and that there's still a girl missing. While this is true, I could live with that. I was confident she'd be found and would eventually recover from her ordeal to some extent.
What did bother me had much more to do with Anna's brother, Evan. I don't want to spoil the story so it's difficult to go into detail here, but I did have an issue with how easily he forgives Anna for thinking the worst of him. Also, we never find out what the deal is with him and his father. That bugged me.
And the actual motive for the crime(s) I just found totally unbelievable and more than a little creepy.
Having said all of that, I enjoyed the originality of the story which I thought was well written
I did not like how this book ended, There was no ending! A child is still missing! You have to read the next book in the series to get an ending. What a rip off! I am not spending money on the next book and then find out I need to buy another. Books should have a beginning, middle and an ending!!!!!!
This Book is so good that I couldn't put it down. I am looking to reading another book by this author now. I think you will enjoy the book as much as I did.
What an ending! Suspenseful, thrilling, this book makes you want to just keep reading in anticipation of what is going to take place next. Good job by the author.
Very interesting story of a pedophile and victim whose lives intersect many years later when a new victim is taken and the original victim tries to rescue the child while dealing with her own issues from the past.
This was so good and kept you guessing the whole way through, or me anyway. I would have liked to know what happened to the main little person for sure.
Written in a very familiar fashion. At times it held my attention but not for long . It could have been more descriptive of the characters . Did not fully develop them
I enjoyed the story and action that was depicted however you start a new story without ending one? It's almost as if there was no organization or planning on how to close each story. You left me unsatisfied and with questions.
Just went you think you figured out who might of for the kidnapping, it takes a while new twist.. Or is the kidnapper who you thought in the first place..
