Carolee is a passionate writer whose life revolves around creating a world she can revert to when life gets in the way.

She always knew she would be a writer. Her teachers and the school librarian noticed her knack for story telling from an early age. With their encouragement, she continued to allow her imagination to come to life.

She spent most of her adult life dreaming of writing her own novels while working a 9 to 5 job. With determination, she quit her job and now concentrates on writing full time.

Writing is her passion and without it she feels incomplete. Carolee writes from her heart, from her soul.

In addition to writing, there are absolutely four things she cannot live without; chocolate, good ice-cream, cheesecake, and coffee.

This book was almost a negative for me. I did not care for the characters. I especially did not like Christine. Her character was a little too arrogant and snobbish for me. Gael was a better. He gave as good as her got. The entire story was a chess game and that is what saved it. I loved the twist and how everything came together.

Didn't see that coming

This has quite the twist! Totally unexpected and very surprising! Gael & Christine are exactly NOT who they purport themselves to be... and it's absolutely mind blowing. I really enjoyed this read & the twist was everything!

I liked this story. It was a very easy read. It was interesting, fast-paced, and entertaining. Each character is easily identified by their own specific personality and they are all likable. The writing is good, and there are a few surprises here and there. It's a nice romance, and the best part is, I didn't find it to be formulaic, which made me like it more. The biggest negative was, though well-written, there were a few differences because of language issues. spelling errors, and minor word errors. It definitely needed to be edited more closely. I understand a couple mistakes, but there were way more than that.

The ending was a complete surprise; I didn't see that coming. I did have to reread the beginning again though, to see if the story line still made sense to me. There are parts I questioned after reading the end, but all in all, it was an entertaining story. I feel most readers who are into romantic novels will enjoy "Check Mate". I also really like the author's choice of the title. It's a perfect fit.
