The billionaire founder of an Internet empire is dead. No one can explain what killed him. Another tech industry titan is missing. No one can explain how he disappeared. The FBI assigns David and Martin Yerxa to investigate. But father and son are outside their comfort zone among the Internet CEOs, tech journalists, and intelligentsia of Northern California. Together, David and Martin must unravel the mystery of one man's death and another's disappearance while battling the larger forces that seem to be working against them. Ghosts in the Machine is a tense, thought-provoking thriller that will leave you guessing until the final shocking pages.
I'm originally from Birmingham, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. These days I live in Philadelphia with my wife and son.
I work full time as a freelance magazine writer and editor, but my nights and weekends are devoted to David and Martin Yerxa and the other characters you'll find in my thrillers. I hope you enjoy the time you spend with them as much as I have.
Read this book in a few hours - it was too good to put down! This is the first book I've read by this author so I hope I didn't ruin it by not going in order. I'll get the other two right away.
An FBI agent and his semi retired father from Washington are sent to California to head an investigation into the kidnapping and strange death of a Silicon Valley CEO of an Internet search company. The are resented by the local office head but with orders from HQ , she has to accommodate them. Several more deaths of heads of similar companies or the venture capitalist behind them and few clues make for hard times for the agents and then NSA steps in and pushes them aside. They become suspicious when the local head seems to be blocking their efforts and NSA intervention but they continue to forge ahead, keeping some information to themselves and eventually discover there is reason for their trouble in high places........ Liked it and it was readable.
An interesting murder mystery in which a father and son fbi team are sent from the US east coast to California to investigate the torture murders of two technology company executives. It turns out that the killer is punishing such top executives for their part in manipulating internet searches to return selected/biased results. pure fiction of course - no huge search engine company today would purposely slant search results. A very interesting, easy to read and enjoyable story.
I don't have much to add to what others have been saying about this terrific book. I read the first two in the series before this one and now have read them all--in order and back to back. I can't wait for the next installment. Ed Markham is a serious talent who's writing has been compared favorably to David Baldacci--a sentiment I share. Do not miss reading his books.
This third in a series is another knockout for Ed Markham. The Agents Yerxa are together again on a case that takes them to the left coast, and embroils them in something neither of them understand. Definitely a great follow up to the previous two cases, and a must read.
This moves quickly and continues a good series. Markham doesn't overplay character development across the series but everything fits together well. What's left is a plot with intrigue. Easy and entertaining read.
Yikes! Very well written and scary as hell! The reality this delves into is enough to make you want to turn EVERYTHING off - go completely off the grid. Good work by Markham because this one won't leave you guessing, it'll leave you shaking!
I enjoyed the suspense. It was cleverly set. There was apparent research and detail description of the process and language of the environment these detectives worked.
This book, read first although 3rd of series, is great read. There is no waffle or wasted scenes. It has a message but does not labor it. Realistic characters and good plot. Ready for lots more.
Having read all of the earlier series, the epilogues were the best parts. This novels ending left too much out resulting in lack of satisfaction. The enjoyable, believable, detailed body of the novel disappeared at the end. The style change did not add anything to the story..
Read this book in a couple of evenings. There's a good dynamic between all of the characters. Very enjoyable, I may go and read the others in the series now.
