I was a trained printer in the mid-80's and between then and now have only relied on what I learnt then. Now I want to create relevant and engaging material for the internet. This book is not only a fantastic refresher on classic principles, it concisely incorporates fresh and accumulated practical knowledge from the last 30 (or so) years. A period of rapid accumulation of knowledge of how to present visual information clearly. I can't believe what the author has managed to achieve in one book. I will probably get this in print form to have beside my PC as a reference. A+++
I'm working in marketing for 10+ years, now I finally understand why I didn't like some designs or felt something wrong that I can't put my finger on it! By reading this book I really understand the core design concepts in very easy way. The book is well structured and easy to read and follow. And most of examples are form marketing and business perspective not for gfx design itself. The big four concept is gold CRAP
This is an great book for a beginner. It's easy to understand, step by step, and she also gives you links for free downloads as you go. That's great, because, whether you're wanting to do it as a career, or just as a hobby, it gives you a chance to see whether you want to spend money on expensive software, or even need to. If you know anything about computers, you'll pick it up easily.
This is a great introduction to the core principles of graphic design, with some very simple but effective design examples for each of the principles. I wish it was a bit more in-depth and had fewer advertisements for the author's other book titles, but I enjoyed this quick hour and a half read.
The book used the easy way to show the most important elements of graphic design and It’s more practical, not a book talking about theories or history etc.
I recently switched degrees from marketing to digital design and I’ve felt really lost. This book covers a lot of things I’d have learned at college if I had studied graphic design and has definitely helped my knowledge.
