In 2010, the dream came true. Her first novel, Emerald, was published by Wild Wolf Publishing. The sequel to Emerald, The Heirs of Eldon, followed the next year.

If you belong to Kindle Unlimited or if you have a spare $0.99 cents laying around, this is a sure read for you. Believe me when I tell you I’m not a series person at all. But… with them all bundled into 1 like this, I’m much more give it a try. If you like SVU or similar, this series for you. It takes place in San Francisco, has a very diverse group of people working in this precinct. You get to see how they bond on and off duty. My favorite of coarse, is Pikles and Tater!
This is a MUST READ, and buy one for your family and friends!
I gave a rating of 5 as being honest I thoroughly enjoyed this set of books. I could not think about doing anything until I read them all. The writer must be one clever lady to keep misspell bound as she did. I will definitely follow co-author thank you
I imagine some readers actually enjoy these books. I'm glad.
I am not one of those readers.
From a writing craft perspective, these are not five-star stories. There was apparently little basic research into such important areas as law and police training. And then, they are overly wordy, meaning actions are described to death, many little things we don't need to know, which always reads like padding. I don't want to read styrofoam! And then there are the characters. Payten's the MC, but she is not well written. Marko is better. Every victim and suspect was better. ...Who does that?
I managed to read the first story. the prequel novella Murder in the Painted Lady. It suffers from the 'too much description, though starting each chapter with a recorded message to the dead woman was smart. One chapter has a dramatic ending thought that that was ?? because it had nothing to do with what preceded it. And then, in the penultimate chapter, MC puts on six-inch heels, and moves like it's nothing when that's not her usual shoe. I'm sorry, no one does that and doesn't suffer for it, particularly during an altercation. In which the author missed a MAJOR way to add tension to a fight. Good agency, bad edit fail. Points for keeping me interested enough to finish it, but it could have been so much better.
I started the first novel, and just couldn't with all the excess verbiage. I didn't return for some time. But I tried again today. When I got to Payten's scenes, again, not as well done, trite, annoying. I skipped ahead a book... Same old. Fine. Last story. If there's no improvement in the first Payten scene, I'm out.
There was emphatically no improvement. And so I warn you; if you love police procedurals, this will annoy you. If you want a strong female lead, ditto. A good POC lead? Ditto. It could be instructive if you're learning how to edit, I suppose.
Now is the time to pick up the entire Peyton Brooks’ Mysteries box set! Eight incredible listens all centered around Peyton Brooks as a detective with the San Francisco Police Department. Each book not only deals with a specific mystery, but also builds on the great cast of characters. Honestly I can’t even chose my favorite... they are all great.
M.L. Hamilton is one of my favorite authors. She writes in such a way, that I’m kept guessing as to what is coming next. While keeping the mysteries moving forward, she also gives us details about each character’s personal life. Before I knew it, I was hooked.
The narrator can make or break an audiobook, and Kelley Hazen definitely makes them. Her ability to voice both male and female characters of various ethnicities and backgrounds makes the stories come to life. She also keeps the characters consistent throughout the entire series.
I highly recommend this series!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
It’s hard to review 10 books at once, but I’ll give it a try. Each book has a storyline that probably will be solved. But some books leave you hanging until the next book. All the storylines are different in many ways. Some more personal, some are serial killers, and some are cold cases. All of them are very interesting..
There is as much about each and every character and the interaction they have with each other as there are mysteries to be solved. The author does a good job of making sure we know the character and actions of each and every person.
The manner in which this author rights is unusual as far as I’m concerned. Instead of ending a chapter, she breaks the thought line with Asterix. And a new paragraph. At times it’s confusing. I’m not sure if she’s changing the thought line or heading in a new direction. It’s not my favorite way of writing. I have to think twice about which direction she’s heading.
But I must admit, even though I don’t like her style, I am enjoying each and every book and I’m sure you will too.
It is so rewarding to see this series available in its entirety. This 8 story set includes the stunningly successful MURDER IN THE PAINTED LADY - a prequel to the originally published 7 novels, with a murder that centers around the dog-eat-dog real estate industry of northern CA. If you love Peyton and her crew at San Francisco homicide division, you will love seeing their relationships grow in this complete set. M.L. pulls all her mysteries from the headlines of the day. Her characters are fresh. Her dialogue is scintillating. There are characters and story lines for all ages. And as always they are set in the crown jewel that is the City - San Francisco. One of our most avid listeners recently used the Peyton Brooks' Mysteries as a travel guide for her most recent trip to this most fair US destination. Another uses Abe's cocktail concoctions as a Bar Guide!
What a delightful series of novels! Have never read anything by this authoress previously but she has completely won me over with her books about Peyton Brooks and her life as a police officer with a thoroughly delightful gay ME as a bestie, a true hottie tottie as a partner and love interest. These novels exude intelligence, common sense and will hold you reading far into the night. Trust me on this one as am bleary eyed this week, unable to stop between novels. Find myself reading half the night. My little Yorkie, Snookie, gets up thinking it’s time to play in the middle of the night when he hears my outbursts of laughter at the quite enjoyable repartee that goes on between the lovable and charismatic characters. Trust me! Read this series!
0 - 7 Volume Set I am reading I won from Goodreads Giveaway on Amazon Kindle. Payton, Marco, Pickles, Tater, Abe, Jake, Cho, Maria, and all the other members of this precinct are just wonderful! What a crew! So THRILLED I won these books and have been introduced to everyone! I have not read such fun, serious, dangerous, real cops in a long time! Along with John Grisham, David Baldacci, Robert B. Parker, Mary Higgins Clark, and so many more. This author rate right up there with them! Please don't miss reading about Peyton!!! I have already purchased The Peyton Brooks, FBI Box Set: Volume One: Books 1-5 and know I will enjoy those as much as these 8 books! This author so knows how to bring the personal into the professional lives, smooth reading, smooth writing! LOVE M.L. Hamilton
I listened to this via audible. 64 hours of story.
I have to admit only towards the end of the book did I become a little bored and desperate to finish it. It became a little slow.
However each story held emotion, action and fun. When the serial killer came into play it was so easy to know who it was, well to me it was. I kept shouting and telling them who it was. That’s why I believe it became a little long winded as it took a long time for them to figure it out.
I defiantly recommend this book. Wanted a little more ooomf when it came to bedroom parties (sexy time) but other than that it was well worth the listen
There were several times through this series that I couldn’t wait to give my review. This may sound weird, but there were times I wanted to keep reading a story but stopped so they wouldn’t come to an end too soon. I loved this series and was so happy to know there will be another Peyton adventure. Ms. Hamilton is a wonderful writer. I cried at times, laughed so much and it was all because it was like the whole group became real. I don’t even know how to describe how fun it was to read this series. If you enjoy crime mysteries along with stories of wonderful friendships you will love reading all Peyton’s adventures. Thank you Ms. Hamilton!
The Peyton Brooks' Mysteries Box Set was a great read by M.L. Hamilton. This book is all eight of the Peyton Brooks’ Mysteries in a single box set. This box set consists of; Murder in the Painted Lady, Murder on Potrero Hill, Murder in the Tenderloin, Murder on Russian Hill, Murder on Alcatraz, Murder in Chinatown, Murder in the Presidio, and Murder on Treasure Island. This series follows the career of San Francisco Homicide Detective Peyton Brooks and her partner Marco D’Angelo as they fight crime in the City by the Bay. I absolutely loved reading these books and cant wait to read more by the author.
It took me until the second book to become attached to the characters of this series. The main character was not very likeable in book one, but she does grow on you. It is not a very realistic depiction of life in law enforcement, but it is entertaining. The author is very good at making the locations a character in the story. I spent several years in the bay area so I could easily visualize the locations as described in the stories. I will continue with the series because I am invested now. If you get frustrated by ridiculous situations and a main character stumbling into a successful life and career, this may not be for you.
The first of the books is Murder In The Painted Lady. A Painted Lady is a house in San Francisco being sold for 7 millions. The man offered cash! They find a body in the garage. Peyton Brooks and her partner Marco are working together. I’m afraid all five books will be about how they sort of flirt with each other with all other person male or female brought in the story adding to the non-tension. Interesting murders but the ‘love’ interest is a bit too much. On to the second book and the. I might give up.
Murder on Protero Hill was a good story, a good plot. But please get rid of Hunk and the girl policewoman
This is a great series of short mysteries that feature a feisty, dynamic young woman detective and the interesting characters that surround her. The stories are fast paced and the dialogue is snappy. They each make a nice read but the evolution of the relationships is what I really enjoyed. I found it best to pace myself and read them over a span of time to avoid overload and to build anticipation of where things were going. I was also happy to see that they are later stories to come in this series. I won a copy of this box set in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
I listened to this set thru Audible. I enjoyed this box set immensely. I have also completed the next set of the Peyton Brooks story. I love the characters. The books are a mixture of the cases that are being investigated and the lives of the characters in the book. Some reviews that I have read don't really care for how much personal drama is in the books.....but, I feel that makes them very well-rounded. I am about to start on the third set of books & I can't give enough of them. I hope you enjoy the books as much as I have.
This book box set features all eight stories Murder in the Painted Lady, Murder on Potrero Hill, Murder in the Tenderloin, Murder on Russian Hill, Murder on Alcatraz, Murder in Chinatown, Murder in Presidio and Murder on Treasure Island featuring San Francisco detective Peyton Brooks and her partner Marco D’Angelo. We watch as she and her partner progress through time.
This one of the best set of books I have ever read! Payton and all the other characters were masterly developed through all 7 stories. All were very diverse personalities but melded into a fantastic team start to finish. Can't wait to read Payton's adventures with the FBI and I hope all her friends will still be integral parts of every story line!
Loved this set of books. Loved the way all the characters were brought out in all the books so that they felt like they were my friends as well. Hated the series to end. Thank you for not inserting to much swearing! Loved all the characters especially Abe and Jake, the others were great too.. Payton and Marco were wonderful but I knew Marco was in love with Payton when he asked for a new partner in the first few chapters.
Good character development, likable and varied personalities. Not only the main 2 but also all supporting actors were well rounded and I appreciate that this author chose to develop all characters and not just stop at the main ones and disregard the rest as some authors do. Storyline was captivating and kept pulling you in. Even after 2000 pages, ending was unexpected but kept your interest throughout the book. Definitely worth the read
I've just spent the last three days (almost round the clock) reading this 7 book set. The characters in these books have worked their way into my heart, and I feel a little strange in saying that I will actually miss them.
M. L. Hamilton is a talented writer. I won't give anything away, but if you want a real treat, introduce yourself to Peyton and Marco and the rest of the gang.
Wow what a great series. I so enjoyed this books. It had every thing you want in a mystery series. I enjoyed all the caritures in the books (excerpt the bad guys). What a great bunch of caritures. I've just download the Peyton Brooks FBI series and i am ready to enjoy more of Peyton Brooks books.
Ok, this has to be one of three best series of there! The adventure, the action, the mysteries, and the on the edge drama all makes for an award winning story. I don't know how many times I thought I know who "done it" I was wrong, until the Preacher spotted him. All of this and a happy ending. This is truly Great Writing.
This was my first time reading books written by M. L. Hamilton, and I can’t wait for more. Through these seven books, the characters become family and the reader hates to say goodbye after finishing the last one. The plots are interesting and filled with intriguing twists that provide hours of reading enjoyment.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this box series. it has been fast moving, interesting & each book is different, but they have all flowed together. Also, it is great to read books that don't rely on the graffic bedroom scenes to sell them. Thank you.
These books was awesome, kept you on the edge of your seat with each book. Love the connection with the group. But I must say, I actually saw this series on TV, I just cannot for the life of me remember which TV series this was. Overall, this was a fantastic read. Definitely looking forward to the FBI series. Great writing.
The first book in he series introduced me to the characters. Then they became real in my mind. I was captivated by them and the narrative. Highly entertaining read. Sending the end of a story , I would read on missing my bedtime, or having to pay my kindle down reluctantly to attend to the daily events of the day.
These books just complete engulfed me. I couldn't stop reading them. And, let's just get this out in the open. I am madly in love with Marco. I would have NO problem with the series switching more to Marco than Petyon. He takes my breath away.
Oh, and the mysteries/crimes are pretty wicked, too :)
Read like a script for a basic American police procedural tv show. Not bad if that was what you were looking for, but could not hold my interest. I made it through two of the books, reading the first two chapters, solving the crime, and reading the last chapter to confirm my suspicions, before I gave up entirely.
This book from start to finished kept me enthralled. The different colourful characters that were introduced made it all bel. The suspense of where it would end and the love they all shared for each other I could not put it down. Hope there are going to be more shortly about their FBI journey.
I read the review. Seemed like an interesting series. I really enjoyed reading this series of books. The way each book followed the previous one was awesome. I highly recommend this series to everyone who enjoys reading mysteries who keep you on the edge of your seat.
