Flash continues to trot along in the Land of Meh.
It has an interesting enough storyline to keep me coming back (when it's convenient), but not enough to get me overly excited for the next installment.

In this volume, we finally get to meet REVERSE FLASH, who is undeniably one of the biggest villains in the Flashverse.
Flashverse...God, I'm so clever!
First things first, we've got ourselves a new Reverse Flash! Exciting, no?
No.
He's Iris' brother, Daniel, and his backstory is a bit...shaky. To say the least.
Remember back when Flash's entire Rogue's gallery decided to team up and wreak destruction a few volumes back?
No, probably not, since it's just me and three other people reading this title...
Ok. So, for everyone who's not been keeping up...they did. Apparently, sometime during their team-up, Daniel (and a lot of other people) got sucked into the mirror world. The Rogues robbed them.
Yep. They even had the prerequisite giant burlap bag to hold their ill-gotten gains.
But Daniel (fresh from prison) wasn't going down without a fight! He drove a truck into some big important-looking glowing thing inside mirror world.
Or at least that's what I think happened.
Something blew up, he survived, ended up in the desert, and had half a monorail fused to his skin.
Go with it...
Ta-da! New Reverse Flash!
Also, like most DC villains, he was a petty criminal before becoming a SUPERVILLAIN, so he's got street cred...

Alrighty, lots of stuff happens in this one, but the main plot line centers around someone killing off everyone connected to the Speed Force. And it's up to Flash to track 'em down, because...
Well, it's his freakin' title, that's why!

Reverse plunked along at nice pace, and kept me flipping the (digital) pages, so I don't want this review to sound like I thought it was a big steaming pile of poo. It's not.
I probably would have rated it higher if the some of the characters had seemed more believable, though.
First up, the Around the World in 80 Seconds scene with Kid Flash.
There's an issue with Bart Allen that turned into nothing more than a ridiculous chase scene. It added little to nothing to the overall story, and I'm assuming it was put in there because they've both got Road Runner powers. Anyway, Barry wanted to ask him a few questions about the murders, and the Kid ran.
Why did he run from Flash, you ask?
'Cause he's a belligerent teenager, of course!
Sure. Why not?
Iris' treatment of her brother was another thing that made me make a frowny-face.
Quick backstory time:
Iris and Daniel had an asshole for a father. He was an abusive drunk. When Daniel was 11(ish) his dad hit him, and he gave the old man a shove. The bastard fell down the steps, Daniel ran off, and his dad couldn't walk anymore. ------>Fast Forward Several Years
Daniel is out of jail (failed robbery attempt stopped by Flash), and wants to reconnect with Iris (the only person he loves), but she blows him off because he refuses to forgive their father. This is just before he gets his Reverse Flash powers.
Seriously?! Why the hell is she so pissed at Daniel? He took the brunt of the abuse for years, snapped, and ran off to live on the streets. And she wants him to forgive their nasty-ass father before she'll let him back into her life?
?????
I could understand if she told him she had forgiven their father, and someday hoped (for his sake) that he could do the same. But to just cut him out unless he made nice with his abuser?
Me no understand.
Other than the above mentioned weirdness (and the fact that I want Patty outta the picture), this was a readable story with nice artwork.

Recommended for fans of Flash only.

This one was such a great read!

We finally see what the Reverse-flash has been upto and when he goes after the victims who were trapped in speed force in early volumes, we find Barry as he fights this menace off and we discover the origins of him and who he is and his connections to Iris and what his plans are to go back in time and do what and we see his plans come to fruition and how Barry stops him and the consequences of that and the whole story is a roller coaster-ride and an emotional one for sure, its just epic the way its done and the whole emotional arc of it is just brilliant and the art just makes you love the whole volume, its so good here, Manapaul's best easily.

And then a fun story set in zero year with Barry visiting Gotham and tracking down some guy who is giving out Icarus and how it ties into the plot and how Iris is also there and them meeting and the start of an on again-off again romance and its fun, its a fun short story showing the darkness of Gotham but how Barry defeats even that, fun ride for sure.

Reverse Flash is a bad guy, in the Flash Rogues Gallery, but this version of Reverse Flash is actually more of a tragic story.

You know, it seems obvious to me that Flash just isn't on Geoff Johns' list of important New 52 characters. I mean he's got a competent writer, but the storylines are shit.

So people who got stuck in the Speed Force with Barry all got some powers...and now someone kills them all off, until only Iris is left...Barry sees a slowed down video that shows his reverse symbol, and goes after Kid Flash...cue some stupid running together and making stupid conversation scenes as they burn across the world, and Bart shows what a moron he is here...saved by the Teen Titans again.

So oops, not him, well he thinks it is the rich guy who helped him save the city but turns out to have different aims...nope.

Of course, it's DANIEL WEST! Iris' brother, who Flash caught in issue one and sent to prison for bank robbery. Daniel, who was out of prison just long enough to make it back for the Gorilla invasion (what? ya I try to forget that too...) and saved by the Rogues...of course no, they rob everyone, and Daniel don't like that, so he acts like a dummy, and gets blowed up real good like with all the Speed Force stuff and a monorail car...

Instead of dying, why no, it bonds to him and he discovers he can go back in time! But it is hard on him...
Then we see he killed all the others, and used them like batteries, to go back in time...

What does he go back to do? Rob a bank? Kill Flash? Ace his SATs? Escape prison? No, actually he goes back to murder his and Iris' abusive father...who we see beat both of them and was a real asshole. We also see that Iris was one of those dumb "oh he only hit me because he was drinking, it's not his fault!" type of victims who makes excuses. Instead, Daniel/Reverse Flash (how clever indeed) wants to kill him so his sister, who he loves, will never have to be hit again...yes it will mean Daniel escapes it too, but we see that he loves her more.

Flash stops him and gives him a lecture about not changing the past, and learning from it, stopping him by taking the Speed Force energy from him? In fact, the writer even has Flash say "I have no idea how that worked, I couldn't explain it again if I tried" WOW. What a cop-out and lazy writing.

So back in the present, Daniel is back to normal-ish, but I'm sure he'll return. He goes to prison, and we see flashbacks of how Iris was to him as they grew up, and she's kinda a self-absorbed cunt...no time for her little brother...maybe he should have just been like her and embraced the punches?

Anyhow, I was really bothered that Iris doesn't forgive him or buy his story at all, and pretty much says that her brother is dead to her, and died when he was a kid. WOW, that's harsh...he turned into a supervillain and killer because he wanted to save you from getting beat up your whole childhood by your father...hmmm ya, I agree, what a horrible younger brother that is...

So if this is who Iris West is in the New 52, I'm glad Barry is with Penny.

Then we get a stupid tacked on story about Iris and Barry's meet cute in Gotham right before Zero Year (because how much more can we advertise Batman???) Barry is helping out, riding alongside Harvey Bullock and his partner...there's some shenanigans, Barry saves Iris, Iris saves Barry, and Bullock has to do something dark. Then Barry gets all goody goody on Bullock about how that wasn't right, and Bullock puts him in his place and pretty much tells him to fuck off and grow up a little. It made me love Bullock just that little bit more.

So here's the thing; I want to like this. I do, the art is a bit childish, but it's not bad. It is consistent, which isn't something you can say for a lot of books...but the plots are stupid, and Barry comes across as very naive and a little too black and white. I mean I guess he's a cop by choice, so that tells us something...but I wish he'd show some more personality? He's just too much wet blanket for me...

I just hope we see Wally West soon, and that Daniel West isn't the character they used instead...ugh.

So this might not be a 2, it might be 2.5-3, but I couldn't get over the feeling of really not liking Iris after her treatment of her brother, and I feel like they're just in a holding pattern waiting to push Patty out of the picture.

Flash, you need to make shit interesting, because even if there's no actual problem, you're BORING, and I don't feel like going out of my way to read you anymore.

This was not my favorite in the series. I feel like they had finally gotten a good story going, then dropped it and brought in Reverse Flash just like that. It felt chopped up to me. The best part was when Kid Flash was running so fast that gravity could not hold him down and he floated up in the air needing to be saved by Barry. That was amazing.

This was about going back in time and I thought it was kinda dumb. The Reverse Flash was trying to go back in time and kill his father. I didn't like the Reverse Flash - he didn't even look human. The art was kinetic and energized, but I wasn't into the story. I hope the next issue will go somewhere forward.

I am enjoying this run.

The main story about the Speed Force and "evil Flash" is sort of interesting. Some of the side stories are lackluster.

REVERSE FLASH isn't classic ZOOM. That's the first thing you need to know.

Daniel West, brother to Iris, is "Reverse" Flash. This is the darkest book and character in the Flash series so far and I frankly love it. It makes for a nice change of pace and chance for Barry to further develop. Credit is due to Manapul (and Buccellato) for inventing a well written, soon to be canonized new Flash villain who is ruthless, single-minded, yet sympathetic in his origin.

Reverse Flash is tragic. He serves as both antithesis and foil to Flash, contrasting and mirroring Barry's principles and childhood tragedy. He also serves as a philosophical lesson, futilely wanting to "move backward" but making things worse because you can't change the past, you just have to "move forward" and run toward your fears.

With Reverse Flash dominating, several minor plots run concurrently to give the reader some breathing room. Kid Flash appears from the future. Barry and Patty move in together. And Dr. Darwin Elias goes full mad scientist. This shorter and more (quite literally) explosive volume provides a welcome tonal shift in one of the best series New 52 has to offer. With continued phenomenal illustrations from Manapul and colors from Buccellato. Check it out.

Francis Manapul introduces us to The Flash's first speedster villain, and it's none other than Reverse Flash. His design is quite unique and definitely has a story of its own, but is it anything that is worth raving about? Not so much. The identity and background story of this Reverse Flash is revealed in this volume and it essentially ties up loose ends (sub-plots) that were left hanging in the previous volumes. Everything is cleaned up properly, but not as cleverly as you'd hope for one of The Flash's greatest villains.

Kid Flash's introduction was interesting, but it didn't lead to anything but more questions that were pretty much unrelated to the story. The clash between Patty and Iris continues as they are both love interests for Barry Allen, but ultimately, everyone knows where this is going to lead. Dr. Elias appears again in this volume and plays an important role in the grand scheme of things, but in the end, Reverse Flash's hunt for anyone that has been around the Speed Force is what drives this murder-mystery story.

There's an extra Zero Year story that is essentially part of the Zero Year event that took place in the DC Universe, but it wasn't anything special and it definitely didn't fit into the main story. I guess you could call it an add-on that looks into Barry Allen's desire to be a superhero and his connection (relationship-wise) with Iris West.

This was not good. I enjoyed the bit with Kid Flash, but honestly, that was all I enjoyed about this volume. The new Reverse Flash has a horrible backstory and furthermore, the character design is just awful! His powers, what he is capable of, how he got them, is so poorly defined... There seem to be no rules of engagement for this new version of Flash's arch-nemesis. He just does whatever is needed to advance the plot.

This is also likely the worst time-travelling Flash story ever written. Neither the writer nor the artist new what to do to get Flash back to the future, and it was painfully obvious that they painted themselves into a corner. They literally have him running through three panels of colours and give us a "wow, how'd I do that?" to bring Flash back to the present.

Even the Zero Year issue was painful to read with its forced coincidences and predictable plot along with some really sub-par off-model artwork.

Not sure what happened with this volume, but it was not good. A real disappointment after the first three volumes.

At the start of this volume I saw Flash running towards that 4 star.

A Interesting villain killing people? Yes

Kid Flash? YES.

Then you find out the reasoning of the Reverse Flash.

And everything just feels like it falls apart. Once a interesting villain really comes down to a selfish guy who wants something to change from the past and in doing so sacrifices all the good he could have in the present. The problem with this is it takes away the "scary" factor he had up until this point. He came off as whiny and boring.

Which sucked because the first half of this was firing on all cylinders.

Also the zero year tie in sucked too, as do most of the stories I've read in the New 52 that tie in to that.

So yeah, the art is still great, first half is fun, but the second half is boring/meh. So here we go again. Another 2.5-3 out of 5.

The Flash tracks down a killer who is targeting a small group of his friends who were trapped inside the Speed Force, including Iris West. Uncovering clues takes him from one false lead to another, finally landing him in the same place as the culprit: the New 52 version of the Reverse-Flash. This time around, the identity of the Reverse-Flash is Daniel West, Iris's brother, who plans to collect Speed Force energy from his victims so that he can go back in time and kill his abusive father.

The art in this series has so far been great, and this volume is no different. My issues here have to do with Patty Spivot (Barry Allen's girlfriend, who still doesn't fit and seems to be an obvious obstacle between Barry and Iris) and the identity of the Reverse-Flash which is interesting in theory, but it was hard buying Daniel as a murderer based on his and Iris's backgrounds and his behavior as "normal" Daniel. I'm also not sure I liked the somehow less personal nature of the Reverse-Flash this time around, making him more connected to Iris than Barry, but this is just my comparison to what I see as a superior version of RF (Eobard Thawne).

(4.5 stars)Really enjoying this series, the artwork alone is fantastic. Manapul is writing a nice balance of action and story and coupled with the art makes this near perfect. Reverse flash is killing speedsters left and right and Barry needs to find out who he is and what he wants. Kid flash also makes an appearance and it is pretty fun to watch the exchange between him and Barry. Manapul is also doing a pretty damn good job with the series, spacing out stories and villains in even pace. bring on volume 5.

Flash is still one of the most beautiful and kinetics books on the market. Well, it was. I guess thus ends Manapul's run. He does a great job bring the title full circle to some of his original ideas from the first few issues. The main storyline here deals with the Reverse-Flash and recent murders of Barry Allen's friends. The identity of R.F. is interesting here and something I didn't expect. There is also a bonus Barry Allen tale as a detective before he becomes the Flash which has sub-par art, but it's a fun little story. Sad to see this run end.

I loved the introduction of the new Reverse-Flash. They really set-up Daniel's history over the last 24+ issues, and I'm glad to see that we could get a young Wally soon. I love Iris so much, and while Barry's current girlfriend isn't bad or anything, I really hope we get to see their relationship flourish more.

I'm glad we've moved on from Grodd, and to be honest, the slowest part of this hole arch was the villain's month stuff. Good stuff, and I'm so very excited to see what will come next.

Rating would've been higher because for the most part, I loved the story and the art. But I thought that Daniel West, Iris' criminal/crazy ex-abuse victim little brother as the Reverse Flash was LAME! SERIOUSLY???!!!

Also, Iris has a couple weird, passive-aggressively jealous moments with Patty, regarding Barry. It just rubbed me the wrong way. Time to see what's next I guess. Really hope it's better than mediocre in the next volume.

This series is finally on the uptick; I have been pretty disappointed with the New 52 reboot of this this far. We finally had a good villain, and his backstory was pretty good also. Iris West circled the background of this volume a little more, getting closer to Barry (physically, if not emotionally or romantically). His relationship with Patty is going strong - she knows about The Flash and they live together! So at least no lying or weird excuses when he isn't around.

Reviewed First at Brunner's Bookshelf

The Flash has had some amazing story lines and even better characters who have wielded the Speed Force. Jay Garrick, Bart Allen, Wally West, and of course Barry Allen. When the New 52 started I had given up my comic book obsession because I have had to manage my money a bit more wisely. As anyone who reads my blog would know I am slowly catching up on all that I missed. The Flash is one of the series I haven't kept up on, partially because I like other super heroes more, but also because I had heard some less than favorable reviews of the series.

As you know I'm a blogger and I try my hardest to keep up on the people's blogs that I follow. Some of them review comics and I have seen some reviews that have just torn apart this series. When I saw this offered on NetGalley I jumped at the chance to request it, and was granted an ARC of this book. Thank you to DC Comics for giving me this chance. Starting at volume 4 did leave a few questions about what all I had missed, but for the most part this was the beginning of a whole new story line. A new killer is out there targeting those who have touch the speed force. Barry Allen, being new to his powers, is doing his best to figure out what is going on.

Since the New 52 is a reboot it is still very early in the Flash's story so we get to see his meeting with Kid Flash and the Teen titans for the first time. I like the cross over characters. It is always fun to see who pops up in the different series from time to time. We also get an origin story of the Reverse Flash. The art work in this was pretty good and I wish I would have thought to take some screen shots of it to show you. The writing was also pretty good but I miss Geoff Johns writing the Flash. As much as I enjoyed this I couldn't help but compare this with story lines like Flash Rebirth, Born to Run, and The Secrets of Barry Allen. I guess I was expecting more out of this book to be honest. I really enjoyed this book and it seems better than what I have heard about the first few volumes.

I do really want to go back and read the first three volumes if only to form my own opinion about them. This book has made me really interested to see where Barry Allen is going to go next. For that reason and the fact that the art work was really good I give this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. I will happily round up to 4 when it comes to reviewing this on other sites that don't allow half stars.

So, what we get in this story is the Flash looking for the killer of the people who have been with Barry in the Speed Force. He thinks the culprit is Kid Flash, because of the Flash logo he has seen in the video footage he had found at the crime scene. However, he later comes face to face with the real killer-the Reverse Flash.
I can't say I liked this one. The only highlight of the whole story is the Flash meeting Kid Flash. I also liked the fact Barry is not the sweet, kind, innocent hero he tries to be. He actually beats the hell out of Reverse and threatens Dr. Elias (whom I hope to see more in the future).
I'm completely disappointed with Reverse Flash story. He isn't scary enough to be the opposite of Flash. He's just an ordinary guy who got powers and is trying to use it for personal gain. Reverse Flash being Iris' brother is just meh. There's an explanation why the Reverse is Reverse to Flash and... I don't know what to think of it. The Flash moves time forward, and the Reverse puts time in reverse. Basically, every time Barry runs, he's dragging time forward, while the Reverse uses Speed Force to travel back in time
And what's up with part 25?! I just don't get it...

Reverse Flash! Finally!
I was quite happy to see Gorilla Grodd on the last volume, but you can't really beat Reverse Flash. I mean, he's like THE Flash villain.
It was a good story overall, you find out why Daniel West wants to go back in time....

Let's just stop here for a moment:

I know this is the New 52 and all that stuff, but Reverse Flash is Iris' brother? But but but I wanted Zoom! This just makes things more awkward. But Manapul can do no wrong and I respect that.

Let's continue:

....and we find out a bit more about Iris and Daniel's childhood. Which is actually quite interesting. And even though I expected a bit more from the Flash vs Zoom scenes (sorry, Daniel West...), it was an ok arch.

This volume comes with the Flash Zero Year issue (which I bought as a single issue, so no surprise there), a great story from Barry's years previous to Flash and his first kiss with Iris. Both of them are helping the GCPD while Batsy is somewhere fighting Enigma. Definitely worth a read!

Wow, this volume goes out of its way to make you hate Iris West - possibly so Patty looks better? I don't know if that was truly the reason, but the revelation that Reverse Flash is Iris' brother Daniel, and the subsequent delving into their past shows the West siblings tormented by an abusive father - and yet when Daniel is released from prison Iris hounds him about making up with their dad. It turns out that after snapping one night, Daniel pushed their father down the stairs and he ended up in a wheelchair. And rather than taking her brother's side (because let's not forget, these are ABUSED children, and yes, I know, some children can still feel controlled by their abusers), Iris blames Daniel for fucking up their lives.

It's hard not to empathise with Daniel, who tried to fight back, and certainly shows a whole new side to Iris as she chooses to forgive her abuser and blame her fellow victim. Get bent, Iris West.

The new Reverse Flash is nothing like the original Reverse Flash. Having said that, let me just clarify that further by stating that this version of the Reverse Flash is ingenuine and has its own separate existence in the DC Universe. The idea of its inception followed by its origin story and who else to take on the mantle but a character that has major links with a primary character is a stroke of pure genius.

Having been formed in the Mirror World, the novel Reverse Flash is a mixture of impulsive insanity and tremendous drive which only contributed in making the tale an enticing read.

The Flash is one of the major characters and so is the Reverse Flash. It is a temporary take of the new 52 on the iconic character but it was a promising one.

Moreover, the tale keeps one on the edge as Barry faces a doosy to make up his mind and synchronize his activities and at the same time ward off this major havoc.

I have a problem with this volume of New 52 Flash. The problem is that they try to reinvent Flash's greatest villain, Reverse-Flash. His identity is a secret in the story - I won't spoil it. The problem is that the original Silver Age Reverse-Flash is probably one of the greatest villains / costume ever created - so great that the current Flash CW TV show is using that one instead of this New 52 take.

The new Reverse-Flash has a new costume (which I don't like) and new powers (which are kind of cool). I think he's a pretty good Flash villain, I just wish they hadn't named him "Reverse-Flash". They should have given him a new super-villain name and then it would all be good.

I predict that given the success of the new Flash TV show, this version of Reverse Flash will go away and the old classic one will return in the next year or so.

Though I loved this compendium, I can't help but feel saddened that we won't be seeing any more eye-popping Francis Manapul Flash layouts any time soon. He and Buccellato have done some tremendous work with the New 52 Flash just in time to catch the wave of the character's rising popularity due to the CW television series. I hope their successors are half as talented!
(Oh, yeah, the identity and backstory of the Reverse Flash is major spoiler territory, so I won't get into it, but suffice to say you'll be either deeply satisfied or pulling your hair out in clumps when the reveal arrives).

Really think I'm not going to read Flash again. This book makes me sick of the comics' version of Barry Alan. Unlike the show version who is morally upright but empathetic, this version can be downright self-righteous.

He is right in many of the situations he is in, but even then, the empathy is absent. On top of this we have Iris, who is someone who I would not want to meet in real life. She is selfish and callous to the suffering of another close to her.

If this is how Barry has always been in the comics, I'll take tv!Barry or Wally West.

The theme is that the main character (flash) is trying stop the killer speedster.
flash as a second job as a investigator and got but on the case of a murder. He looks at a body and sees that that there are scratches and burn marks also signs of electrocution. Then he thinks of the satellite someone was installing. later he finds out that the so called satellite is a cameras. He finds a way to activate the camera to find out that he ways pushed by a speedster with a revers flash symbol.

As I've stated all along F.M. draws better than he writes. Thankfully he draws the majority of this work, which is why I liked it more than past volumes. Story was so-so, nothing ground breaking or brilliant, but drawn nicely and inspired with experimental, eye moving panels like Neal Adams used to draw Batman and X-Men.

The Flash: Zıt Flash kitabı Goril Savaşı'ndan daha kısa ve daha özdü. Bu bakımdan dolayı kitaba nasıl başlayıp nasıl bitirdiğimi bilmiyorum. Ama her sayfayı çevirdiğimde yüreğim ağzıma geldi. Özellikle kavga sahnelerinde resmen gözümü kapatarak okudum. Ama Flash yine Flash'lığını yaptı hiç merak etmeyin.
