A young girl/woman Claire is immeresed in an intertwined world between here and now and a fantasy then and there.

Norse Gods.

Prophecy.

Fate.

Destiny.

Betrayals.

Claire is a Chosen One with a role of becoming a semi God and reversing the curse cast thousands of years ago....immortals are not what they seem, they are souls in search of smth solid and are driven by every notion known for mortals...seemingly we are all alike...in a constant battle between good & evil, whether from the outside for a greater cause or within ourselves.

This was an interesting idea poured into the words creating this extraordinary fantastical journey...

But I struggled with some parts of realization of the storyline, sometimes seeming abrupt and inconsistent in presentation, even though the story flew relatively fast, there were parts that dragged, hence distracting me from being more involved in the story.

And as the story unravels, the main characters' constant interaction in battle and on going hateful interchanging banter spurs not so favorable emotions, especially cause you get lost in trying to understand the main male character's stand, inspite the fact of him being a villain (or better yet a disillusional and delusional crusader)

But in a fantasy genre, the action sequences are ones that count the most and this author does a fine job in presenting the mystical world of ancient warriors, myths and legends....

(I received e-copy of this book. Thanks to author Kristal McKerrington.)

This story is about Vikings, Norse gods and other immortals. The story revolve around main character of the book, Carla, 16 yr old, living normal mortal life in Shetland Islands. She is troubled with her occasional dreams about Norse Gods and immortal warriors. Life is normal until she is forced to become immortal. Grated powers that are equal to Gods, that can decide fates of other immortals. Story is about surviving in the world of immortals and finding out the purpose for which she made immortal.

Talking about characters- Antagonist was really nice, unexpected, interesting. Carla's trainers were amazing, I liked Daryl. Bond between Carla and Amy was nicely described. Carla- I don't know, she was Okay! I found her weak because she was not ready to face the situation, to trust her powers, and gaining control over it. Her struggle in surviving immortal world and her love for mortal life was very deeply described but it was irritating at some point.

I feel, this book is slow and serious, full of betrayal and survival. It requires lot of patience. There is lot of unrevealed secrets till the end of the book which kept me going. Dreams of Carla makes story really confusing. Legends in the book were interesting and satisfying in answering questions you have regarding story. I liked that part of the book most, but it took too long to reach there.

Ending was sad and unexpected. Overall, Okay!!

Thank you Kristal McKerrington for the opportunity to read your book. This was a good read. I thought it was a good story. Also, I thought the main character were okay. I did not love her, but I did not hate her as well. I thought Mark was a dislikable character. The ending was sad and unexpected. I will be reading the rest of the series to see what happens next. I can't wait to see what Kristal McKerrington has in store next. Overall, an okay read.

Starting this book I was really intrigued and couldn't wait to dive into the Norse mythology I believed would be prevalent in the plot. However,as the story progressed I became more and more disappointed and bored with the plotline. Not only was there minimal development on its Norse background but I also personally didn't like how the author portrayed the Norse gods. Our main character,Carla, also seemed inconsistent and almost unlikable at times. I enjoyed her relationship with Amy and how relatable they were with their love of books and other fandoms but ultimately was uninvested in her story. The plot was slow and the dialogue felt clunky at times and I don't see myself reading the next book in the series.

I just can't. It isn't worth it.
First DNF this year.
Great.

The description of this book suggest that it is going to be about Norse mythology and Vikings. That made me pretty interested in the story. But then I read for over 100 pages and the only thing that related to the description were occasional dreams of the main character about Thor. That wasn't develop in this 100 pages and I just got bored of waiting for the interesting part to come.
Instead of going for the whole norse mythology thing happening at the beginning of the story, the author decided to focus on the poorly created romance between the main character Carla and some random guy Mark. I didn't even got to know Carla and she's already full in love with Mark.
This book is full of cliche motives like two shy girl who meet two handsome and popular guys and because of them they start to open up... No! I'm so done with this type of protagonist. I couldn't stand any of the characters (mainly because their whole life was about romance).
Didn't like it and I won't continue it.

I loved this book, the mixture of modern with the Norse Gods. It was very well written and easy to follow. Loads of twists and turns. This is an amazing book which has been cleverly written. A definite 5 star read. Can't wait for the next one.

I would like to thank Kristal McKerrington for providing an advance reader copy of book 1 in the Immortal Warriors series, co-written with Joe E. Legend.

Sixteen-year-old Carla wants to see the world, yet the prospect of leaving the backwater Shetland Islands for the University of Glasgow – where she will be the outsider with the strange accent – causes her no small amount of trepidation. With her best friend Amy – no boys, boys are trouble – she escapes into the fantasy worlds created by her favorite authors. Lately – since a new boy who stares at her arrived at school – she’s been having strange, vivid dreams. Armored warriors that wear familiar faces – one of them her own. A Norse God demanding she remember…something. A dark-haired man who loves – loved – her.

As her dreams grow more real, the boy at school seems to transform from a skinny geek into the hottie all the girls trip over themselves for. But the boy, Mark, seems to have eyes only for Carla. But there are still strange things about him. A cut on his hand heals almost instantly. His fencing skills are epic. And Carla glimpses hints of carefully hidden, violent strength. The light in his eyes calls to her – and frightens her at the same time.

Her dreams become more intense. In them, she possesses dangerous powers she struggles to control. And she is being hunted. Are these dreams a sign she is going mad…or a link to an alternate world, meaning she ignores their warnings at her own peril? Is Mark simply a strange boy she’s better off leaving behind for her new life in Glasgow, or a dangerous being who’s stalked her across time and space? As her dreams begin to cross paths with reality, there’s only one way to find out. Resist her dreams, or trust herself to embrace an immortal destiny written by Norse gods and goddesses.

“Carla” is a suspenseful, thoroughly engrossing read that pulls the reader along with tantalizing threads of magic, dreams, and unanswered questions, that irresistibly weave themselves into a tidal wave of emotion, magic, betrayal, sacrifice, and the eternal battle between good and evil. It’s hard to imagine future books in this series being any more epic than this one, but I can’t wait to find out!

I received this book as an arc from the author and while I’m not big on YA it was a really fun read, I really like Thor’s character and the dialogue was very good. My favorite was “who says hells dull” that’s my favorite line, I need that in a shirt. The ending was very unexpected, that betrayal I did not see coming. It was very good. If you like high fantasy and Gods this book is right up your alley
