This is the first in a series of manga adaptations by Jay of the television series Sherlock, and this volume is a kind of faithful representation of the very first episode of the series. I love Sherlock (though I like the American series Elementary maybe just as much for rather different reasons), and it was nice to see an episode I like reproduced. I laughed aloud in a few different places. It made me immediately want to re-see the episode, and did then see it. Yes, I liked the tv version better. A nit: In the manga version, Watson and Lestrade, both blond-haired, look too similar; I didn't like that.

I don't think it adds anything to the experience of the original story by Stephen Moffatt and Mark Gatiss except maybe to slow it down a bit. To those of you that know the series, Sherlock speaks (and thus thinks) very fast, and while this is impressive, on a certain level, from the perspective of acting, it is hard to follow his line of thinking at times. It's almost as if the performance of this manic character is more the point than the details of the mystery's plot itself. The manga allows you to take your time figuring out how the mystery enfolds and is solved. But other than that, it doesn't add anything new. I still liked it, though, it's fun.

Thanks to Rod Brown for calling my attention to this series.

My video review: https://youtu.be/UNswm5fBIaI

The manga adaptation for the first episode of BBC's Sherlock, is brilliant. It captures everything so well that it almost feels like you are re-watching the episode. This is both good and bad. I was amazed at how accurate the content was, but at the same time I would have liked a little more creative freedom; something different instead of just the same thing I've watched on TV over 5 times.

The art style is amazing, I would never have imagined Benadryl Cabbagepatch fitting in so well with manga. I would highly recommend this to any fan of Sherlock wanting their fix, if not just for the artwork alone.

So my birthday came round this week and unexpectedly my boyfriend got me this as one of my presents! I absolutely love the BBC version of Sherlock and to read this in manga form was awesome. Plus it's my first ever owned manga! XD

It genuinely made me laugh some of Sherlock's faces that were pulled and I love it when a book/manga can do that. Overall a brilliant story with awesome characters displayed in a form of art I love.

I actually started reading this a long time ago but kinda left it on my bookstand after 1/4. Not because its bad but because its the bbc series but in manga form. Everythibg is the same: scenes, lines etc.

This isnt a bad thing the sherlock holmes books is what go me into reading as a teen and i lived the bbc adaption of the books. This was fun and cute and i loved it.

I felt more gay tension in this manga than in the series though. Maybe it was the blishing on sherlock that made it more romantic. In a way the bbc series didnt.

If you are a sherlock fan i would highly recomend it.

Sherlock: also know as my favorite TV show ever.

It's complex and fascinating and fun and absolutely amazing. And this is basically a manga version of the show. Cut out the amazing soundtrack and those super cool transitions and you basically get this manga.

Seriously, there's pretty much no difference.

Just add a few lines of John's inner monologue here and there and you get this. I mean, if you're a Sherlock enthusiast like I am, then you can check out this book, but if you haven't seen the show yet, get on that. Or you could just use this as a cliff notes version, I guess.

The BBC Sherlock TV series is one of my favourites. So, when I bumped into these manga adaptations I couldn't help myself. I had to read them all!
They're so cute and they are well executed. The illustrations are quite beautiful and I appreciated them a lot!

Found this in a japanese bookstore shortly before the english release was announced. I didn't even know there was a Sherlock manga adaption for the BBC series *.*
Sherlock is one of my favorie shows, and this manga tries very hard to stay true to the source material. Conversations, character design, props and gags are largely the same as in the show, which is great! I mean, look at the cover. Benedict Cumberbatch is totally visible in the manga art, and the artist deserves a lot of credit for that.
However, I wish the artist had been given just a tiny little bit more freedom, to better express the character dynamics and plot developments in the manga format.
Sherlock the manga Vol. 1 reads like a stop motion version of the series, and the series that used to be fast, dynamic and fresh on the small screen suddenly became static, a mere remake.
I'm a huge fan of manga adaptions and I love revisiting the series (be it in a re-watch or a re-read of the episode!) but in a direct comparison with the source work, the manga falls a little flat.

4 stars // read January 2022

My first manga- I didn’t realize at first that the pages were supposed to be read from right to left, oops.

I’ve never actually watched BBC’s Sherlock, so I can’t tell you how this compares. However, as a general Sherlock Holmes fan I really enjoyed the way this was adapted into a more modern setting while still retaining that essential “feel” that all the good Holmes stories have.

The art style is beautiful. I love the detail and how all the panels are laid out. Also, it’s worth mentioning that real-life Benedict C. ain’t nothing compared to his manga counterpart. XD

Content advisory:
Violence: Mild/Medium. A dead person is shown; someone is shot; mentions of suicide and taking poison. Someone writes a word in blood. Overall, though, nothing is detailed and there is very little blood.
Language: Infrequent, mild swearing (d***.)
Other: Unfortunately, there are a fair amount of LGBT+ references. A (divorced) lesbian couple is mentioned. Multiple people assume that John and Sherlock are in a relationship, and Sherlock explicitly tells John that he’s married to his work and so he isn’t interested. LGBT+ relationships are viewed in a positive light.

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** EDITED: Karena jenuh, akhirnya aku memutuskan untuk membaca ulang komik ini.

Sama aja dong? @_@ Tapi sepertinya ada indikasi kalau Sherlock mengonsumsi obat-obatan tertentu? Entahlah. Agak ambigu. Apa mungkin semacam obat penenang, ya?

Watson sendiri karakternya sangat menarik. Nggak sekedar sidekick.

Tapi kenapa dia langsung mati? Padahal kukira ga kena jantung. Infeksi kah? Kehabisan darah kah? Atau memang itu spot yang mematikan?

Aku tunggu terjemahan volume-volume berikutnya.

Really enjoyed reading this even though I'm not a big fan of Manga art - I'd have preferred a Graphic Novel with more realistic looking features. But I didn't dislike the art this time.

When I finished this I did kind of wonder, even though I liked it, what the point was. It's so close to the TV show in most regards except medium that it doesn't offer a new perspective or anything like that. If you don't like the show but do like Sherlock Holmes in general, this probably wouldn't be a good fit.

This was a pretty good graphic novel manga based on the first episode of Stephen Moffat's Sherlock series. If you like the TV show Sherlock, definitely check this graphic novel out. It is available at your local library and wherever books are sold.
