Josie meets Jonathon her future boss and lover at a fundraiser. After living on the streets for most of her teenage years, Josie has developed a basic mistrust of people particularly men and prefers her own company. Private Investigator Jonathon slowly gains her trust and her love breaking through her reticence at forming close relationships. Several years later Leo enters their lives. He employs them in an elaborate scam to expose his business associate Phillip who has fraudulently ripped him off. After conducting background checks on Jonathon and Josie, Leo discovers Josie officially doesn't exist and Jonathon has a shady past. He was convicted of manslaughter as a sixteen year old. Intrigued, Leo pushes ahead with the sting despite the mystery surrounding Josie. Cynical Leo is surprised by his contradictory feelings toward her. With a catastrophic love triangle brewing, their worlds are almost destroyed when the sting to expose Phillip goes horribly wrong. The ensuing violence is brutal; Leo feels responsible for the disaster.
Compelled to try and save Jonathon's life and keep Josie from a complete physical and mental breakdown, Leo finds himself conflicted. With Jonathon out of the picture, Josie could be his. The resultant fall out messes with all three minds. Loyalty and trust, love and lust, weave a complicated panorama engulfing all of them. Friends become an important backdrop in their struggle to patch up their fragmented lives. Some will make choices against their apparent nature. No one is left unscathed.
A Complicated Trio of Love Stories All in One Novel
This novel is a stormy ride, taking us into the stormy hearts of three complicated lovers. We are swept up by their desires, their regrets, their passions and their agonies. The characters are very real in the way their contradictory feelings and needs are expressed. They are, therefore, very human and easy to identify with and care about. As the reader, it was hard for me to know how I wished things would end...and the end was, in fact, a satisfying surprise.
I found most of this book a pleasure to read. Maybe it could be tightened up a bit . Especially in the center part when Jo was so emotionally wrought. It tended to get overdone then. It picked up a bit as we drew to a conclusion but I would have liked a bit more romance between Josie and Jonathon. To me it would have added to the passion for one another and it would have made Josie's decision more difficult. Sex doesn't always equate with love.
I received this story from the author with a request for a fair review- and I must say I didn't know what to expect when I first started reading it but it actually pulled me in right away. The heart of the story is a young girl who comes from an abusive past and the two men who love her. She's damaged and each of the men who love her - adore her. It is an interesting tale, well - written but a third into the story there were parts about the heroine and her main guy that began to drag and annoy-- there were also formatting and spelling errors -- I almost considered not finishing it but before I gave up- it picked up and from that point on & became a page turner. I could not put it down and I am glad I stuck with it-it was a good read.
