Revelation: Mature Look

Rate this book
This book is a rewrite of an earlier one I wrote in 1988, where I interpreted Revelation from a historical perspective, relating the prophecies to the Judean nation when Christ first appeared on the Earth. Not many think that Revelation actually predicted the downfall of the Judea because the Jewish leaders refused to recognize the Messiah when he finally arrived. Yet we all know Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed in A.D. 70 by Titus, and Judea was no longer a sovereign nation for hundreds of years before the modern era. The nation actually was totally destroyed by Severus in A.D. 135, and the Romans deported the indigenous population and replaced them with gentiles. Even as recently as 1856, only 10.500 Jews resided in all of Palestine. I think I did an effective job quoting historical documents describing the downfall of Judea.

Now, thirty-one years after my first book, I think I have a plausible idea of how the end of time might work out for us when Christ returns. So I rewrote my earlier book and added a futurist interpretation showing how the predictions in Revelation will apply to the Gentile nations when Christ does return at the end of the world.

When I wrote this book, I realized that Lucifer plays a much more important role in what has happened to the human race all through history than most people think, so I reorganized my current book to outline his role in human affairs from the beginning. I picked up on the many apparitions of the mother of Christ warning the human race not to continue defying her son anymore; otherwise he will have to chastise the world for its refusal to pay attention to him. I think this makes for exciting reading, if you are interested in adventure stories. But I think it’s much more serious than an adventure. The Jewish leaders did not pay attention to Christ when he came the first time and we all know what happened to the Jewish nation. I don’t think any of us would want to experience the downfall of our own nations.

I had Diane Donovan of Midwest Book Reviews in California read my book. Here are some of her comments: “As basic Christian concepts of the past are today refuted worldwide, Williams makes some important points about Biblical teachings and their foundations. [He does not argue that] the Bible is literally true in every statement in the Bible because statements are easily twisted by people arguing against the Bible. Instead, [he is] convinced that the Catholic Church is the one founded by Jesus Christ, and he sent the Holy Spirit to preserve his church from error. Christ never told his apostles to write about his teaching: he told them to preach. Preaching by word of mouth would have reached the common person of that time because very few people in the first century knew how to read and write."

“These statements, as set forth in his Introduction, clarify Williams' underlying beliefs, focus, and contentions, setting the stage for the interpretation of end times which follows. Discussions tackle the role of Lucifer in not just the end times but everyday events, providing a step-by-step interpretation that takes passages from Revelations (such as 'Rev. 6: 11-17 Great Day of Wrath has Come.') and interprets them with an eye to explaining not just the message, but its delivery, impact, and choices in presentation.

“Whereas other Biblical analyses of Revelations focus on interpreting Biblical content almost as a stand-alone separate from choices in description and delivery, Revelation: Mature Look continues the dialogue to explain symbolism, divine nature, preludes to Christ's ministry, and comparisons between real-world events and visions as provided in Revelations.”

“In each chapter, Williams demonstrates an attention to not just spiritual messages and interpretations, but how they were and are delivered to and perceived by Christians past and present. His personal dilemmas in working out God's message and how the world responds to it are another strong feature of an interpretation which goes beyond individual belief to probe the history, psychology, and spiritual base of mankind and its relationship to God, Christ, and Biblical messages as a whole.”

“The result will prove especially satisfying to Christian thinkers and scholars seeking a multifaceted blend of historical and spiritual inspection and the author's own admonitions and cautions based on the lasting impact of the lessons and predictions in Revelations: [Williams says:] "You probably don't realize it, but the Catholic Church now emphasizes Divine Mercy. If Jesus Christ is going to return soon for the final judgement, you should take advantage of his generous offer. Just throw yourself onto God's Divine Mercy and choose submission to Christ, and Christ will do the rest and take you into his heavenly kingdom just like he took the good thief when he said: today you will be with me in paradise."

I am eighty-seven years old and am retired. I worked fifty years for a heavy equipment manufacturer making extruders for the animal feeds industry, mechanical screw presses and solvent extractors for the oilseed industries and dewatering equipment for the synthetic rubber industry. Our machines were sold all over the world.

I wound up as Director of Research and Development and traveled to many countries starting up and troubleshooting our equipment in customer plants. In my line of work, I wrote many journal articles and contributed chapters to several technical books, like Bailey’s Industrial Oils and Fats. I am married, have four children and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. I also posted many book reviews of popular books on The Internet.

In my youth, after I had finished high school, I joined the Air Force in 1950, and was given a small pocket-sized New Testament and, having little else to do; I wound up being fascinated by the imagery in Revelation. I never lost that fascination. I also came across Immanuel Velikovsky’s Worlds in Collision in the airbase library. I think that book launched me into a lifelong curiosity to find out if any of what he wrote is actually true. I read all of Velikovsky’s books and many books by other scientists, including those critical of Velikovsky, like Carl Sagan.

When I got out of the Air Force, I went to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science. Later, during my mature years, I had a conversion experience and wound up trying to work out the contradictions between my scientific aspirations and my newly rediscovered Christian roots. It was a long journey for me, and I eventually wrote several books about my experiences.

I am honored to be one of the Goodreads Authors. I hope you find my books interesting.

This is a book about the end times and what the Bible tells us, WILL come.
I realize it's a matter of what a person believes or doesn't believe, what they perceive or don't perceive, but sometimes it really, "Is what it is."
I have many opinions on this book and I'm not certain that's what you as the reader after me, would want to hear, so I'll leave that part alone if possible. However I do agree somewhat with this author on his very intense findings in the Bible and other History.

There are many scripture references and footnotes to back up what the author is speaking on, at one particular time or another. So his reader is not left in the dark.

This is a good reference book, if you are wanting to understand the book of Revelation in the Bible. Great for anyone who hungers to know Truth, and not opinion. It gives an understanding of what's happening today in our world.

There is a little bit of politics sprinkled in, but nothing to bring you to a place where you want to gouge out your own eyes. (Sorry, that's my humor coming out.) It's very well written and has it's place in the book, so it fit nicely.

I think this is more of an adult or young adult's read, children would not be able to comprehend the content of this book.

I grew up reading and studying the book of Revelation, so I think I understand where this author wants to take it's reader. He has a desire to admonish people to recall what this country was founded on, but also remember that there's more beyond this world, Encourage others to study again, what God's desire is for this dispensation or time. This is what I gleaned from the author's words. I could appreciate that part very much.

Again, this is a very full reference book and quite well written and makes you really think. It's not an easy read, because you do want to read it with an open mind and a curiosity to actually seek out, if what the author is saying, is Truth or just an opinion. For the most part, I found it to be a pretty sound book, full of facts. Not so sure about a certain section on the History part, and I am not Catholic, so I wasn't sure about some of the beliefs that the author spoke of, in a certain section of the book when referencing their beliefs, but it didn't take away from the book at all.

Great book! Hope you take the opportunity to not just read this book, but study it out, by reaching for your Bible and seeking out those scriptures that he uses as reference, to see if these things be so. This is a scriptual thing to do. You never want to take another man/woman's opinion, just because they say so, but because God says so. And THAT, is just Wisdom. Which, is what is lacking in today's society, and yes, that is my opinion. Oops, it did leak out a bit.

"Revelation: Mature Look" is a well-written discussion of the book of Revelation, and how it may apply to both the past and the present. The first half of the book provides a detailed, interesting historical account of the Jewish people and early Christian church. The author simultaneously takes the reader chronologically through historical events and through the symbols depicted in Revelation, explaining how he thinks the visions relate to historical events and why. Although I'm not sure I agree with his conclusions, they are thought-provoking and well thought out. The author also does a great job of separating his opinions from historical fact, to prevent confusion and provide a solid historical narrative even for readers who may not be interested in an interpretation of Revelation. Although I am familiar with the Jewish history presented in the Bible, this discussion deals with Jewish history after Christ, which I previously knew nothing about. I definitely enjoyed reading about the various battles between the Roman Empire, Christian Church, and various sects of traditional Judaism, leading to the dispersal of the Jewish people from Israel. The second half of the book deals with modern times, and the author's interpretation of Revelation as a futuristic prediction. This section can be a little repetitive, as some of the information if presented twice, but is overall still well-written and interesting. The author discusses several modern day visions and that are acknowledged by the Catholic Church, and discusses their significance when taken in context with Revelation. He continues to keep facts and opinion separate, offering a look into some of the moderns statements of the church that I was not familiar with. He also takes time to comment on what he considers some of the failings of modern society, and where we should go from here. Although again, I don't necessarily agree with all of his conclusions, his point of view is very interesting and worth hearing.

This book, “Revelation: Mature Look” by Maurice Williams really had my interest. This is a historical biblical read that was both entertaining and educational and is a rewritten version of Maurice’s earlier interpretation of Revelation. I can definitely appreciate the scholarly research and deep thought that went into the compilation of the various points of references found in Revelation. The author does a great job of keeping a neutral standpoint, but does state that readers may have disagreements -which was true for me. There was an abundance of “historical” evidence produced, however the Bible is certainly a book that is up for interpretation. He discusses some of the views many different groups including of the Protestants, Seven Day Adventists, Jehovah Witnesses, Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Church of Scientology, Church of Lucifer as well as other streams of religious thoughts. Lucifer was a senior angel who was cast out of Heaven because he and God had a major difference of opinion and he took about one-third of the angels with him. The author describes that Lucifer is the chief devil because of his more highly gifted angelic nature and because he is the source of rebellion against God. He says that humans suffer because evil is operating in their lives and they could defeat evil if they could counteract all influence of Lucifer, but they cannot. I agree with the author and I too think God originally created Lucifer to be the morning light, to illumine the minds of lesser created angles and humans. Jesus is the new Morning Star replacing Lucifer because Jesus accepted the Father's will for him. Maurice also takes time to comment on what he considers some of the failings of modern society, and where we should go from here. All in all this book captivated my attention, was filled with lots of scripture references and footnotes, and it truly is a book intended for everyone, no matter your religion.

Title: REVELATION: MATURE LOOK by Maurice A. Williams

You may be wondering why the article “A” is missing from the title of this amazing work. I believe the author is telling readers upfront he is expressing his own view of what the bible really says about the future of the world and how our role as humans triangulates with God, heaven and/or, hell. The expression “Heaven only knows” perfectly illustrates this as an area of mystery and consternation for most Christians and those of other faiths. In an extremely well documented and footnoted tome the author walks the reader through the early history of Christianity, Paganism, Judaism and how the Roman Empire played a role in the destruction as well as the development of what we know today as modern religions.

What is surprising is that Mr. Williams believes, and documents why, about half of the things predicted in Revelation have already occurred - In ancient times. For example his depiction of the four winds and two of the three woes occurred about 40 years after John the Baptist predicted them. He believes that Revelation is more relevant to first and second-century Judea than it in any way relates to twenty-first century religions. As you know, God told Adam and Eve to populate the Earth and subdue it and their progeny should rule over all living creatures. But, Lucifer interfered and still exists. This fallen angel, a.k.a. the devil, will continue to tempt man against God. Mr. Williams provides a convincing portraiture of the devil as well as the early Roman emperors. Interestingly, he doesn’t mention Plutarch (A.D. 47-120).

Are we simply highly evolved animals set upon the earth by something (?) or should we embrace God who gave us the right of choice? After all, without choice, the only thing left is control. This is a very interesting and enjoyable read especially if you have wondered about the things discussed in the last book of the Bible. Enjoy.

Insightful commentary on Revelation

Revelation: Mature Look by Maurice A. Williams is a Biblical commentary on the book of Revelation. The author, Williams, had written a commentary on Revelation about 30 years prior to this, however this one has his updated views and musings. He writes from a Roman Catholic perspective, with a combination of preterist and futurist views, with the preterist views being more dominant.

Williams tries to be as historically accurate as he can in his writing. He admits where the archaeological evidence is weak with where they are some conflicts in that record. He attempts to resolve some of those conflicts in a way I found rather straight-forward, concise, easy to understand, and rang true to me. He doesn’t just throw 5 arguments at the reader and hopes one sticks, I felt like he picked his argument and stuck with it, and I liked that better than other commentaries where they just drown the reader in too much information.

Williams also tries to help the reader see the big picture of where Satan may fall into a handful of very important stories to some of the meta-narrative / overarching themes found in the Bible. He presents these views in a plausible manner, rather than being whimsical and outlandish. I felt he made a compelling case.
Williams has a clean and neat ordering to his book. The chapters are clearly laid out, and easy to manage. So say if you were only curious about certain sections of Revelation, it’s easier to jump around at your leisure.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to read more on Revelation. As a Protestant I don’t share the authors Catholic leanings, but I got a lot out of his book and think anyone wanting to learn more about Revelation will to.

Passion and biblical knowledge abound in this book by Maurice A. Williams. First off, be prepared for some pretty strong beliefs and bible-based opinions in this book. Williams essential takes this religious text as fact, although he has questions about the modern day interpretation of some biblical stories. Although I can’t say that I agreed with most or any of what Williams was writing I found this material to be fascinating from a historical and anthropological perspective.
Williams’ own convictions and high self-praise actually made this read all the more enjoyable. There was something about his intense convictions that had me so interested. In this book, Williams takes the reader through the Book of Revelations and picks it apart with finite detail and focus. He takes both an historical and futuristic perspective which is a unique viewpoint and one I’ve never encountered. This is absolutely a fresh look at an old text. I am so impressed with his abundance of knowledge on this subject as well as his determination in disseminating his message. He took the time to re-write an older version at the age of 84! That takes serious commitment!
I recommend this book to anyone who can read it with an open mind and can appreciate it as a well-organized, researched piece of religious literature. You don’t have to agree in order to appreciate a new perspective and new ideas. One of my favorite lines in the book is ” Whatever you think is true really is true for you, but your truth might differ from what someone else might think is true.” I absolutely love this outlook and I agree completely. What are facts? What are truths? A lot of what we consider to be both of those things are just a matter of perspective. This book is definitely food for thought.

Let me just say I am not a huge fan of religion. However I grew up baptist in a southern household so I know the religion all too well. The author basically breaks down the bible in a simple easy to grasp narrative. However, due to the book just explaining or interpreting the bible it really isn’t much of an interesting read. To me anyway, I am pretty open when it comes to a lot a things but it was just hard for me to stay interested since I have outgrown religion. It wasnt what I quite expected, but the content is true to the title. I feel that someone walking in the faith would find it very helpful, as I know the bible is often difficult to interpret as written.

The author did address that readers may have disagreements and was dead on in that perspective. There was “historical” evidence produced but I am unsure about the validity of that information for various reasons. When it comes to events in the bible it is very much up for interpretation. I do not want to rain on anyones parade but taking the bible literally instead of metaphysically causes for a lot of room to create situations, scenarios, and limitations that trap the mind in its own asylum. Not trying to be harsh at all, but I just cant read this without in the back of my mind knowing that the bible that we presently know of is missing a so much information and is a condensed dumbed down version. To some this is real life history and they believe the events happened in real time. For me however it is allegory.

Overall kudos to the author for delivering this book. It was well written and presented information as it pertains to the subject.

84 years young Maurice A. Williams presents us with a rewrite of a book, “Revelations: Mature Look” previously published in 1988. A study of the Old Testament, specifically Revelations, Williams presents his hypothesis of history and the end times that are, in his opinion, most certainly near.
A biblical reference, a treatise no less of many years of study and reflection on the part of Mr. Williams. He maintains he is a preterist, meaning he believes that the prophecies in the Bible about the End Times have already been fulfilled. As well, he believes that the Book of Revelations was actually a warning to the Judean people that God would reject them all if they did not embrace the Messiah (Jesus) when he presented himself as the true Son of God. He believes that the Catholic Church is the one true religion as the Magisterium, the teaching authority of the Roman Catholic Church, especially as exercised by bishops or the Pope-have kept the word consistent over centuries. He discussed the end of the world as we know it and how Lucifer, and his wickedness, has embedded his personal rejection of God into the rejection of the Messiah in popular culture and that as humans, we are currently conducting ourselves outside of God’s Grace.
An amazing study of history and the bible, sprinkled with the author’s opinions and insights which are just enough to keep you interested. No stranger to conflict, Mr. Williams presents his version of the previous end of the world and how he envisions the world of today will end as we, while not falling from grace, chose to not accept God’s grace in our lives.

“These warnings and chastisements are easily misunderstood. It would be much more clear to state them as warnings that if we do not, of our own free wills, avoid sin, especially sins of injustice toward each other, like murder, rape, robbery, bigotry, and violence, we will wind up experiencing the consequences of sins committed by others.”

In Revelation: Mature Look Maurice Williams takes us through the book of Revelation in the Christian Bible. There are more than a few things that Mr. Williams reveals that I found profound and unique to his book alone. Most historical documentation I have studied for years has John the youngest disciple as the author of the book of Revelation, yet Mr. Williams argues that it is John the Baptist. Which I found surprising at first yet he has a clear argument to the fact it is entirely possible for him to have written it while in the dessert preaching or is the prison in Harrods castle. I also found how he points out unlike others that Revelation is not just about the end of times but also speaks of the beginning of beginnings even before the garden of Eden to the war in heaven and the fall of Lucifer and the one-third of angels that followed him. Most people don't see those things tied into the whole of the story yet he explains Revelation not in book order but chronological which helps gets more through an understanding of the book. I really did enjoy what he had to say and the evidence he presented for his facts and I will be recommending this book to others who want to learn and understand the book of revelation.

“Revelation: Mature Look” by Maurice A. Williams is a rewrite of his original book written in 1988. The first note to be made is that this books content is very much rooted in a non-secular Christian belief system. It’s an interpretation of the Book of Revelation and what the author believes the aforementioned biblical text can represent to it’s followers. While my personal beliefs may not be congruent with the author’s it’s obvious anyone who does subscribe to this faith at a level similar to the author’s will have much to appreciate. That being said readers of the same faith but with differing conclusions or even those who aren’t as persuaded by Christian teachings or religious inclinations in general will still find the content intriguing, if nothing else for the in-depth historical analysis. It’s nothing short of impressive how he compares scripture with biblical history to inform his opinions. There are numerous instances where he refers to everything from effective use of military tactics to political upheavals identified to the specific year and season in order to explain his interpretation of god’s will. The bible often relies on metaphor and allegory as literary devices; as a result deriving meaning can be a less than clear process. The author provides a clear vision of the meaning he’s found in Revelation and does it with an unmistakable passion demonstrated by a tenacious attention to detail. Whether his conclusions are correct or not, I can’t say, but it’s always enjoyable to entertain the notions of someone who takes the time to carefully develop them.

“Other’s want to know the truth, but in a world where everything is contradicted by someone, they want to be careful in what they accept as fact,” (Williams). This is a quote that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. As someone who studies the Bible both in University as well as in private, this quote rang so true. Maurice Williams takes the reader on a walk throughout Biblical history in such a way as to make the reader feel as though they are right there in the garden of Eden or right beside Israel just before it fell. The main prophecies in the book of revelation are worked through as well and with intellectual breakdowns of the meaning of each prophecy. For anyone who has read the book of Revelation, one thing that can be agreed on is that this book is not the easiest to understand for those who are not used to doing in-depth Exegesis that is typically only taught in a University setting. Maurice Williams takes the barrier away for the lay person attempting to understand what is coming in the future and explains it like a well versed Professor. The chapter that included Our Lady of Fatima bringing warnings about things contained in Revelation was by far my favorite part of the book. The writer is very talented! My one critique is for the author and not the book. “I think,” is said a lot and typically followed by a wealth of wonderful information. It sounds like the author is second guessing his intellect, which I believe he definitely does not need to do.

While reading through Revelation: Mature Look one cannot help but be struck by the sincerity and devotion of the author to the cause of Christ. He has obviously spent his life focusing on the mysteries of Christianity and offers some solid interpretations for the reader’s consideration.

The book is a balanced narrative addressing the events described in the Book of Revelation. The author begins with a preterist view as a possible explanation for the events. He then segues through pivotal supernatural appearances of the Virgin Mary to possible futuristic explanations.

What I most appreciated about this book was it’s very neutral and kind voice on what is, for many, a touchy subject. The author stays very factual, humble, and often shares his own convictions with self-effacing certainty.

I certainly appreciated the scholarly research and deep thought that went into the compilation of the various points of references found in Revelation. Not being Catholic, it was also enlightening to learn more about some of the more supernatural events that have influenced the Church and it’s actions.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to explore a spiritual understanding of both past and present events that they may not have yet encountered. It is an engrossing read, and certainly gives one pause for thought on more than one occasion!!

A total rewrite of an earlier book, this book attempts to interpret parts of the Book Of Revelation from the Bible, both from a historical and a futurist perspective.

Lucifer was a senior angel who was cast out of Heaven, because he and God had a major difference of opinion. He took about one-third of the angels with him. Many of the events and descriptions in Revelation can be interpreted to apply to the Romans, who ruled the area. They also fought a number of battles with the Judeans, before they flattened Jerusalem in the 2nd century A.D.

Moving to the present, the author has very little good to say about present-day humanity, especially America. He talks about evolution, abortion and the general removal of God and religion from the public square. The sightings of Mary at places like Lourdes and Fatima are an attempt to encourage humanity to return to the right path, the path to God.

Those who consider religion an important part of daily life will enjoy this book. For history buffs, in general, this book might take a while to get going, but it reaches the point of being worth the reader's time. The author is in his 80's, but he doesn't lack for passion or strong opinions.

“Revelation: Mature Look” by Maurice Williams is sure to be a big hit among avid Bible readers, from the truly religious to those who read the book from an anthropological perspective. The author basically discusses this portion of the Bible while providing really excellent notes and cross-references that make its study-whatever your beliefs- much more straightforward. The ideas posed in the book are great for self-reflection and personal application as well as for group discussions. Whether you find the prospect of the end of days terrifying or terrific, Williams equips you with all the information available in the chapter without resorting to apocalyptic hysteria. Maurice Williams does an excellent job in explaining end times based on Scripture and the study of what God has revealed but he isn’t pretentious in his analysis and doesn’t pretend to have all of the answers. Overall, this book is a thought provoking read on the end of times. As someone who is just beginning to investigate what I believe is going to happen in the final days, I appreciated the biblical citations. This is a MUST READ book for theologians and lay people of faith alike.

I give “Revelation: Mature Look” five out of five stars.

If you are interested in a totally wild interpretation of what the Biblical Apocalypse means, this is your book. The author's wild description of events is spellbinding. According to Maurice A. Williams, the Apocalypse has already happened in Arab countries. He traces the Arab people through their trials and tribulations over the centuries and uses a scholarly approach to explain why he thinks this is the truth. His reinterpretation of the Book of Revelations is his basis for the book and the background for the story is World War I and a fictional soldier, who sounds a lot like T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) to present his theories. Actually, this book is a rewrite of a previous one. This one, he claims, is a better version. I haven't read the older version of his book, but he knows a lot about Biblical history.

This book will take you from the beginning of time, to the proposed end of times. It is about the Book of Revelation. This book is very detailed and the author has done his extensive research. He is very knowledgeable. I learned a few things in this book which I am grateful for. It certainly opened my eyes to some new things and also to things I have already seen coming. I think everyone should read this book.

I received this book free, from Goodreads for a honest opinion.

“Revelation: Mature Look” by Maurice Williams is a historical biblical read that was both entertaining and educational.
I enjoyed the fact that Maurice left his personal feelings out of the book and tried to stick to facts and religious beliefs.

The book is written specifically about the book of Revelations and the authors opinion about the role Lucifer plays.
This is a rewrite on an earlier book written by the author and this time around he has added a bit of creativity that made the book stand out. It seems to have a bit more of a supernatural aspect to it, and the beliefs that supernatural activity has guided us.

There’s no shortage of historical facts or Christian beliefs and one doesn’t have to be a true believer to enjoy the book. Even as a non-Catholic it made for a spiritual enlightening and entertaining read. I fully believe that Lucifer or the devil has guided our lives and our decisions, good versus evil and this book seems to back up my feelings.

The author put a lot of thought into creating and updating this book and my biggest word of caution would be that until you get further along in the book it does seem a bit redundant. The more you read, the better you understand his perspective and begin to see where it all rounds out well.

I would recommend this to anyone who is a history buff and definitely to anyone that is curious about religion or maybe seeking some clarification on the Book of Revelation.
