Fireblood Dragon #2

Fire in His Kiss

Rate this book
Bloodlust and insanity rule my existence. As a fierce drakoni warrior, this strange new world I find myself in eats at my mind until there is nothing left. There is no light or clarity...until she arrives. I save her life, plucking her from the sky.

From that point on, she is mine.

But the human I have chosen for my mate - Sasha - is fragile and wounded. She does not trust me and fears my presence. I will not give up, though. I will do anything to give her my fires and bond us both in body and spirit. How can I convince her that I want nothing more than her happiness if she will not let me touch her?

How does a dragon woo a human?

After I finished the first book in this series, I was afraid that some things were going to be repeated in this one because it is essentially the same premise: dragon needs mate, dragon finds mate, dragon has to get mate to trust him, then dragon and mate fall in love.

But no, it surprised me!

The author finds a way to make this book feel like a brand new book, which it essentially is, but a lot series have books that feel like repetitions of previous books and that can get tiresome when you're trying to follow a giant story.

I also have to congratulate the author on creating another heroine that I like.

Sasha is sassy yet hesitant. She has her limits because of her past struggles and they are understandable and don't seem forced.

Great character development and continuity.

Also, there's a "bad arm" in this book...

Jesus Christ.

The heroine has a "bad arm" that will eventually feel like its own character at some point. And I just found it amusing how many times her arm was brought up and somehow it never annoyed me lol.

Anyway,

I cannot wait for the audio of the third book to come out so I can continue this series!!

Going on my "favorites" again!

Thanks, author!

Squee!! More dragons!

I think I am the minority here, but the first book I read by Ruby Dixon has been the “Fire in His Blood”. And I was NOT impressed. I had many issues with this book, which I explained in the review of that book.

After reading the “Fire in His Blood”, I started the “Ice Planet Barbarian” series. And I was very impressed!
I loved the wicked humor of the author, the devotion of the male characters to their mates, the amazing well-described well-explained world building. I am a huge fan of Sci-Fi romance and this series ticks all my boxes. So, I knew that the author is capable of great things!

After reading the “Fire in His Kiss”, the second book in the Fireblood series, I can happily admit that now we are getting somewhere. Many nice, correct things are happening in this book:

1. The two main characters are very interesting. Sasha has been suffering all her life. She used to sell herself in order to survive at this post-apocalyptic world where food is rare; her arm is broken by her last lover who was getting off by hitting her and making her suffer; and she absolutely loathes sex because it was never enjoyable for her. It is not easy to explain all these facts to the persistent dragon who has snatched her in the air and he is determined to mate her. When she actually manages to explain all the facts to him, he becomes the most patient, devoted dragon you can find in the entire planet.
2. The plot thickens. There are of course lots of smutty erotic scenes between Sasha and her dragon, Dakh, but we now actually learn more about the BEFORE. We get some hints about the previous life of drakoni before they fall from the sky.
3. There is interaction with the other main characters. Although the focus is on Dakh and Sasha, there is also present the other couple Kael and Claudia and her sister Amy. And we are introduced to a new appealing female character, Emma, who will have her book next. Her dragoni is waiting for her ;)
4. New villains besides the crazy red female dragons and the stupid humans. There is Azar and his gang. And the Salorians. I am sure there are plenty of those around.

Overall I enjoyed the book. I think this world has a lot of potential and it can be nicely expanded.

I am looking forward to book 3...

Which one did I find better, between the first book and this second installment? Honestly, I don’t know. It’s hard to tell because I personally didn’t much enjoy both. Let’s just say, the first book was more like a frustrating read whereas this one bored me to tears.

Well, to be fair, this book actually got off to a good start at the beginning. I enjoyed it just fine and it really had me anticipating how Dakh and Sasha would learn to communicate with each other. But after the 20% mark, the story started dragging a bit and it got even worse as I read further into it.

When I was halfway through the book, my level of boredom with all the nonsense and filler I found on almost every page I turned had reached its peak. There was not enough substance to keep me entertained and I got bored with everything. I didn’t give a damn what Sasha ate, where she took a bath, how she enjoyed her books, how she spent her time with Emma, nor did any of the sex scenes between Dakh and her. Seriously, they did me nothing! In my opinion, they just add length to the book without contributing anything useful to the overall story.

At this point, I thought “Gosh, there’s an awfully long way to go! How can I endure this?” Thankfully, somewhere around the beginning of the last quarter of the book, something interesting happened. I felt like the actual story just began from here. This unexpected turn of events totally piqued my curiosity though it wasn’t as mind-blowing as I expected. At least, it partially made up for the dull parts I already mentioned.

As much as the story bored me to no end, there were a couple of things that worked for me.

1. Dakh. He is such a sweetheart. I loved the scene . That was so cute!

2. Emma. She is a strong woman. I admired her for her courage and bravery to live on her own and to be independent. I’m definitely looking forward to reading her book!

3. I liked the scene . Sorry to sound very bloodthirsty, but hell, if I wasn't pleased with that. He deserved what he did.

4. The surprising twist near the end. It was absolutely the highlight of this book.

However, there were a few things in this story that seriously didn’t work for me.

1. This book was overly long. I think it should have been shortened to perhaps half its length.

2. The story moved painfully slowly.

3. Sasha. I didn't like her in the second half of the book. Not that I much enjoyed her character in the first half. She went from being a simply weak woman to an annoying, intolerable one. I hate it when the author forces the heroine who has previously seemed smart and rational to do something out of her character or something massively idiotic just for the sake of the plot. It never really sits well with me.

4. I hated their first time mating. Sasha didn’t enjoy it. Her mind was elsewhere while they were having sex. She even prayed that it would end very soon. What?! Hell to the NO! It wasn’t romantic at all!

Overall, this book wasn't totally terrible, yet it wasn't good, at least for me, either. I’m very keen to read the next installment in this series nevertheless.

So this may just be the first Ruby Dixon book I put in the ever growing DNF pile.

In my opinion- this book is utter trash. But the is my viewpoint and I'm sure that if others read this they will have an entirely different viewpoint. Below are spoilers and my take away from this disaster of a book.

Better than book 1, but not up to the greatness that is the Ice Planet Barbarians. Maybe book 3 will get it right.

Sasha, Claudia (book 1)'s friend, was grabbed mid fall out of the air in the last book by Dahk, another dragon. He takes her to a crumbled skyscraper nest to mate. Haha, yeah, doesn't work out. The human ladies aren't into crumbling skyscrapers without food, water, or bathrooms. Luckily, they move locations to a Sprawlmart kind of store that has everything.

The female mc starts off battered from being beaten by her former John, since she's an occasional prostitute in this apocalyptic world. She's scared of everything, especially the dragon that keeps carting her around and doesn't speak English. She spends most of the book being mopey about her stint as a prostitute and more upset that she's been taken by a dragon man that just wants to make her happy. If only I had her dragon problems. She also annoyed me with all her talk of dragons being the enemy, that was so repetitive. Despite this, still liked her better than Claudia.

Dahk is messed up in the head because something about Earth's atmosphere is like bad LSD to dragons' minds. Being with Sasha helps calm down all the crazy and he's cute in how inept he is at trying to win her over. He even goes spying on humans to figure out human courtship rituals. I loved his attempt at a picnic in the pouring rain, not noticing how off it is. He tries so hard to do everything possible to make Sasha happy.

This book dragged on a bit. It wasn't the most active book, but I liked it much better than book 1. It definitely improved when the twist and new characters joined in. I'm excited to see what happens with the new plot twist. Another new character, Emma. She's going to be good for the next book.

All in all, better than the first book and I'm looking forward to book 3.

Such a crazy couple!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😟😍😉

The heroine: Sasha - Sasha was escaping the city with Claudia and Kael (Claudia’s dragon mate) when Sasha falls at a terrible time. Claudia has a choice to try to save Sasha or her sister Amy. Claudia chooses her sister and Sasha is left to fend for herself with a broken arm and broken ribs against a dragon.

The Hero(s): Dakh - A crazed dragon who finds Sasha hurt and alone. He likens his madness to evil ravens flying around in his mind tempting him to kill and destroy. When he sees Sasha as his mate, he starts to think clearly for the first time in ages.

The Story: Dakh takes Sasha to his nest which is the top floor of a high rise near her former home. They can’t communicate so they learn to be together without being able to say more than each others names.

I have now read 4 books in this series and am liking it a lot, though there are things I am over after the first few books. First is the fact that they can’t communicate until they are mated. It is fine, but I wish the females would know this ahead of time so that they can give it up a bit sooner in order to be able to talk to the guys.

The other thing is the fact that the males walk around naked all the time. It does make sense in a way since any clothes they wear would be destroyed when they shift and the fact that they are always warm since they are dragons. However, I just can’t get on the nudist wagon. It is too weird for me.

The narration was great again, Noelle Bridges and Jeremy York both do a terrific job. I liked the storyline about Sasha not caring for intimacy after being abused and mistreated. It was a bit funny how Dakh kept trying to figure Sasha out and romance her since the Drakoni mating revolves around the female fighting the male to show her interest.

’He gestures that I should wait, and races off. A moment later, he brings me…a bush. Not just any bush, but a bush with the roots dripping mud everywhere. He thrusts it out to me, a proud look on his face.
Am I supposed to take it? “Um, thank you?” I try to pick it up with my good arm, but it’s a little unwieldy and the leaves keep pricking against my skin. After a moment of wrestling with it, I just set it down and wipe my now-muddy hands on my dress. “I don’t know what’s going on, Dakh. I really don’t. I—”
I go silent because in the next moment, he’s holding a dead bird out to me. A dead, roasted bird, feathers and all. I look at it with horror, and he frowns at me, tilting his head as if he’s confused as to why I’m upset. He rips the head off the bird—I think it’s a dove—and offers it to me.’

I’m dying!!! Dakh trying to be woo her is too funny.

And his sense of humour?

Her smell makes my eyes water, Dakh tells me in a grumpy voice. She does not need to worry that another will snatch her as a mate. He would have to have no nose in order for that to happen.
Hush, I tell him, suppressing my laughter. You stole me and I smelled bad.
No, you smelled strong. Not bad. There is a difference. She smells foul.

And he calls her ’My infant!’ , this is too much!

I only give it 3 stars because it made me laugh and I really liked Dakh, other than that, it didn’t impress me.

I feel a bit hesitant to start the next one, but I’ll still give it a go.

This series needs more "story" I guess. Too much sex, not enough substance. And I'm missing that humor that I loved so much in Ice Planet Barbarians... I find myself skimming so I don't think I'll be continuing with the series :(

ZERO SPOILER REVIEW AHEAD.

I was hesitating to read this at first but then I realised that we were going to read Dakh, the UNsettled and UNtamed male dragon.
And melikes unsettled Romeos - it adds sizzles to the plot.

So, imagine my excitement when I dove into this bad boy.
Not to mention, I read it ahead of my buddy readers, which rarely happens.

Boy, oh boy.

This glowy feeling continued on until they (consum)mated.
Their sexy times - Oooo BOY.

Even Sacha's moronic behaviour didn't dampen these blush-inducing moments.

But then halfway in, their sexy times and daily minutiae were the only thing in those pages I was turning.
The story became repetitively ugly and dragged out

So, (I thought) maybe a change of position will help?

No, didn't help at all and still nothing happened to perk up my attention.

Shame, shame, SHAME.

Started really REALLY good and then bam - total disappointment.
I was so convinced that this will turn to a massive fail.
Well, it won't be the first time to be honest.

But then Kate mentioned that there was a great twist at the end.
So, read on, I did.
70% in, I still couldn't see what Kate was on about.

WTH?!

The journal entries that Sacha did, helped me kept going...and bubbles.

And then, something happened. Something wonderful happened.

This was it. The one that Kate said about.

*

*

*

*

That twist at the ending was so unexpectedly good that I want this book all to myself and not for everyone to read it.

But that's not how it works.

The twist though?
You have to read to find out.

As for me, I was happy.

I forgot to review this book. Because it's forgettable for the most part.

Sasha was annoying. The sex was boring and repetitive. Dakh was sweet most of the time but I couldn't on board his ship because he

The last quarter of the book made up for a lot of what was lacking at the start of this story, but overall this was another miss for me. A lot of it felt forced and the drama was manufactured so stupidly I was constantly rolling my eyes.

Oh and there were some things that should have been picked up by beta readers/editor - for example when Dakh gets an animal for Sasha and Emma to BBQ, first it's a deer, then on the next page its a cow. Is it a deer, or a cow? Or a dow? A ceer? Whatever, shit like this pisses me off.

I know I've been super down about this but I am keen for book three. I love you Ruby Dixon. Please don't fuck the next one up.

Oh and also, I would be really keen to hear about the lady dragons. I want a story from their perspective. I wonder what it's like in their head and why they are so mad and attack everything. IDEAS FOR YOU MS. DIXON.

Middle of the road again

You know what I like best about this book? It's not fluff.
There is an actual gosh darn story and Ehd-ness is just bonus really.

Were I in a proper state of mind I'd leave a review but I just wanna get to the next book pronto, almost like a fix. I'm so addicted!

Sasha got on my nerves in the beginning, not saying she got better but you kinda get used to her. Dakh was so Ehd and in love and a dragon, yeah, he just checked all the right boxes, I just wanted to smother him all tight like. xD

This was a subpar edition to the series. Quite a lot of boring and inane scenes in the superstore (aka walmart). The heroine was way too into "shopping" for me. All of the details of her stash had me fast forwarding ahead. Nothing actually happened until the end of the book!

I thought the hero was clueless, but sweet and tried to connect to her - even going so far as to ask for help. The picnic was adorable!

The heroine had a horrible existence, which she dwelled on a lot, but then suddenly the big "O" fixed everything.

Liked catching up with Claudia and Kael. Although her sister is annoying and depressing.

You know what I don't read enough of? Dragons. Good job Ruby Dixon has saved the day and started a post apocalyptic PNR dragon series to keep my quota of dragons up. Although these aren't your usual dragons, they came through a rip in the sky and tore the world apart and now the remaining humans live in fear of an attack. However, what the surviving humans don't know is that all the dragons that came through the rip are insane and driven by bloodlust. The only thing that seems to bring them back to sanity if finding their mate who manages to reach past the madness and calm their mind.

This is exactly what happens when Dakh finds Sasha. Dakh can feel the madness fall away when he looks at his mate. However, she isn't acting like a normal female dragon, showing displays of aggression so that he can dominate her. Instead she seems afraid of him, he is determined to show Sasha that she can trust him not only with her body, but her heart as well. Sasha has been through a lot since dragons came into the world. Forced to sell her body to a violent man who enjoyed her pain more than sex, so that she could eat, she's understandably weary of the huge golden dragon, even, or maybe especially when he shifts to his human shape.

Sasha and Dakh, so far they are my favourite couple in this series. Sasha has already survived a lot and it really tore at the heart to hear some of the things she had to endure in this post apocalyptic world. So, when Dakh came along I was dying for her to grab this chance of happiness and safety. I really enjoyed reading as she began to trust and open up to him as Dakh made some clumsy (and sometimes terrifying) shows of affection. Dakh, was completely clueless about how to treat a human female but it was adorable and heart warming to watch him try.

As well as the romance we also get hints, through Dakh's scrambled memories, about the world the dragons came from and I can't wait to learn more. The action also amps up in Fire in His Kiss as a bad guy is revealed, one that seems to have come through the rip in the sky with the dragons.

A great book in the series, although there is some action in this one, it is the really sweet romance that captured me. This book also finished at a really interesting point (don't worry no cliffhangers) and I can't wait to dive into the next book to what happens next.

So I didn't love this as much as the first one... particularly because the middle really seemed to drag. I was really considering DNF'ing this one at one point. I know this story is longer than the first one but I found the plot was not substantial enough for the length the story was. The middle part of the book really dragged on IMO.

I was contemplating 2 stars but the story started to pick up and it got good again! We got some action, and the relationship was getting solidified. Also I started to love Dakh's personality and the couples interactions. So despite the rough start to the story I really got into it towards the end.

I will say I am very intrigued by Emma's story! And this new development with the dragon race sounds really interesting. Looking forward to the next book!

DNFed at 40%.

Apart from being boring, it's utterly flat: writing, characters, the real thin plot.
It's of course my uninformed opinion, and it is an opinion, not a fact, but I think this author really can't write that well. (Where of course I'm talking about talent, not the actual phrasing and or grammar.) If I think about the heroine there was nothing that made her alive, least of all coming out of the pages. She should be desperate, terrified, but you only see written words, never feel her. Never really feel her shame. You don't get her reasoning either.

At 5$ I found it way too expensive for what it offered.

This book takes off when Sasha fell from the Dragon’s back in book 1, after she escapes the refugee she previously lived in.

This book is very light fare. This whole series, to be honest. I wanted to know more about the dragons and their story since we met Ashtar in Ice Home and I’m really happy to learn a little more about them with every book and I think there will be a lot more lore to explore in the future books.

Dakh is much more playful than Kael, I think he was fun, but it took a while before the two characters were able to communicate and it felt a little dragging in the beginning. I liked Sasha much more than Claudia, even though she probably still won’t be my favorite. I liked how resourceful she was and how she tried to go with every situation and make the best of it.

An honorable mention has to get Claudia’s bad arm. It was mentioned a LOT.

I’m super excited to read Emma’s story next, after everything that went down at the end of this book.

Ruby Dixon and fire don't mix well

I didn't like the first book and the second is a DNF.

Maybe I wasn't in the mood for a sexually traumatized heroine, but I don't think that's all.

Tate did this, Tate did that. Instead of having sympathy for her, it annoyed me that everything the hero did was compared to the ex. It also made her seem like an idiot for going back to the same dude for food and things. Why couldn't she choose a less violent guy as her provider? As far as I understood, any man would do.

Her impassivity is frustrating.

The hero sounded and acted a bit like himbo even though it makes sense for a shifter dragon from another dimension to not know anything about this one. Still, her mimicking drinking water seems pretty universal.

There's also the fact we don't know when she last showered and she rubs her privates with her hand and shoves it up the hero's nose to calm him and he licks it off.

😨😨😨😨🤧🤧🤧😷😷

Nope. I'm out.

I’ve always enjoyed Ruby Dixon’s books. They are guilty pleasure reads and always help me get out of a reading slump. I loved the beginning of this new dragon series, however, this one took me a bit to read. Somewhere after the beginning of this book, I was losing interest. Thankfully, after it the 55% mark, it picked back up.

It’s really interesting to see little snippets of the drakoni race, and even more so towards the end. We meet another character, Emma, in Fire in his Kiss, and I’m excited that she will be in the next book. Especially after that ending! No spoilers here!

I loved Dahk. He is a sweetheart and extremely patient. He’d do anything for Sasha, even if it means going out of his comfort zone. Sasha…I didn’t care much for. Not for quite a bit of the book. The whole thing with Tate annoyed me. Again, don’t want to give away spoilers…but…yeah. Then the whole situation with Claudia. I think she overacted.

Despite the things that didn’t quite do it for me, this was overall, a good read. I can’t wait for the next!

Саша (Човек) и Дакх (Драконѝ)

"Огънят в целувката му" в Читанка

2ра книга от поредицата Fireblood...

description

-Second book, lot more dragon lore. Ms. Dixon has quickly become my go-to author for a crackilicious read. Her Ice Planet Barbarians (aka Planet Blue Balls for those of us who love those fuzzy aliens) brought me to the Dixon fold and the Fireblood series has kept my attention. It’s got some high (and low) lights, like any good series (and haircolor), so let’s dive in.

-The sitch, more or less. Ms. Dixon has come up with a dragon shifter romance series that has its own post-apocalyptic spin on how dragons have come to inhabit the earth. There’s this thing called the Rift that tore a literal hole in the sky and dragons streamed in, batshit crazy and ready to kill everything in sight. Not exactly warm and fuzzy but I am digging how she’s expanding that mythology bit by bit and giving some depth to this overarching storyline.

-Kind of works as a standalone. You could read Dakh and Sasha’s story on its own, but reading the first book gives context to certain plot points that you don’t quite get from a recap at the beginning.

-Dakh and Sasha really grew on me. Dakh starts off super batshit crazy last book, and Sasha’s been through some really dark stuff trying to survive in Fort Dallas, one of many human forts erected when the dragons came and started destroying everything in their path. Sasha was a woman alone and had to trade parts of herself to survive. I didn’t judge her, and unfortunately, the fact that she blamed herself for the abuse she suffered is a common reaction from rape survivors. It’s sad when we, as women, have it so ingrained to take on that kind of guilt. It definitely affected their romance, and I understood the need to build it up on her end. Dakh was sweet and caring, and the things he did to woo her was great.

-Dragged a bit too much. My main issue with the story was pacing. I enjoyed the first part of the book, but the middle dragged on too long. It was like treading water until it could get to the final 20%, then we got alot of new information on the ‘verse and the drakoni’s history that made it fly by. I just wished that the editing had been a bit tighter to get to that point faster. I love me some tender love scenes, but there was a bit too much repetitive inner monologues and sometimes dialogue that wasn’t necessary to tell this story.

I enjoyed this story, even if I felt the middle was a bit repetitive. The additional information on the drakoni and the setup for the next book definitely has me intrigued and I know I will download it immediately. Ms. Dixon is my cracky read dealer, and I can’t quit her. If you like dragon shifters, give this a shot.
