Metropolis #2

Working It

Rate this book
After his boyfriend dumps him, Hayden is in need of a place to live. Thanks to his buddies, he has a great lead to room with a guy named Cody in Metropolis, the hottest condominium in town. But things get a little uncomfortable when Hayden shows up for the interview and discovers he and Cody share an awkward up close and personal experience from their past.

Cody doesn't have a problem living with Hayden. He's had his share of help when he was down and out, and he wants to do the same for this guy. It's not long until Cody realizes how great it is having someone around. Sometimes, they watch movies together...and other times, they help get each other off--one of the perks of living with a guy who's as laid back about sex as he is. They hit off so well Cody even decides to act as wingman for Hayden while he gets used to hitting the town again.

Before they know it, they're spending more time with each other than with anyone else. But Hayden just got out of a relationship and should be spending his nights having fun and working it around town, not jumping into something serious again. Cody's always just gone with the flow, believing if it's meant to happen, it will. But life doesn't always work that way, and if they don't fight for what's right in front of them, Hayden and Cody might be over before they have the chance to even get started.

Can't believe I finished this one!!! And after so long. 3 months to be exact.
I've started this book right after finishing the previous one. Well, 3 months ago. At the time I just couldn't connect to the characters or the story. At all. So I've put it on hold. After days and days of reading only a few pages per day and rolling my eyes, I've decided to take a break. After a very busy summer today I got back to this one and I just can't believe I was able to finish it. Somehow I was expecting to give up. But the last 30% of the book convinced me to keep reading.

It's too sugary sweet, pretty light and with only a little drama, but overall this book was OK. I'm glad I can add it to my reading challenge. I hate not finishing books, so this one wasn't that bad. It's not my favorite from these authors and it isn't my favorite book in this series. I enjoyed the first book much more.
I can't wait to read the next one, hoping I'll love it much more.

Another entertaining entry to this series, this was easy romance reading.

The same theme continues as MC Hayden is trying to move on from an asshat ex-boyfriend, and really just wants to find his place in the world and to finally have a bit of fun with his freedom. When Hayden becomes the roommate of carefree laid back Cody who lives at the Metropolis, things look promising as Cody offers to help Hayden get his jollies off by being his wingman. These two become fast friends and their single life antics might bother some , but be reassured when they profess their feelings for each other, their wandering eye is no longer looking.

What’s nice about this series is that the MC’s have a little self discovery to do about themselves, while at the same time finding in the other a person to trust and open up to. Intermix that with a look at gay single life which can be quite fun and sexy at times, along with the drama of all of them living in the same building complex makes for an entertaining read as this group of friends grows in number and in strength.

Again this might not appeal to purists/monogamists, but overall it’s still a relatively angst free read with plenty of good feels and sexy times!

Enjoyed it, but didn't feel the spark the first book had.

Like the last book, I really enjoyed the characters. They really make these books. They're all so different in their personalities and bring something different to their group of friends that it makes you theoretically happy to hang out with them. Especially Derek. That boy makes me laugh so hard with his antics and with the stuff that he says. I can't wait to read his book.

Hayden had some insecurities after his breakup. It got a little annoying there for a bit when he kept letting the things his ex said or did interfere with him moving on. Cory was good for him. He's pretty laid back about sex and basically everything. Guys like him who make a joke about everything usually have some lingering hurts of there own hidden under those quick retorts of humor. The problem I had with him was he was too laid back and not serious enough for me. He was when it mattered I suppose, but he never got deep enough for me. I really loved his relationship with, Doc. You really got to see his more "real" side when it came to his feelings for Doc, who took him in at 15 when his parents kicked him out and he was on the streets.

I loved the way Cory appreciated everything and looked at brighter side of everything. I loved how he encouraged Hayden and made him feel comfortable in his skin once again. They had a really good relationship and some serious chemistry and burned up the sheets with their sexy times.

Good, but I still enjoyed the first book more.

Happy reading dolls! xx

So, I lied. I didn't put it on hold; it wouldn't let me.

Anyhoo, things that didn't bother me in the first book bothered me in this one.

-The tropiness
-The sex jokes
-The douche ex-boyfriend

This time around I was looking for something a bit different, but this story having many of the same components as the first one made this one feel flat to me. Which made me sad- I hate rating authors I love low, but I have, to be honest. I still have mad love for Riley Hart and Devon McCormack, and I will always look out for their books.

Sadly, we can't love 'em all.

Boo. I love these two authors, but I'm not feeling this one. I'm not connecting with the story. I'm going to shelve it for now and read something else and come back to it at a later date.

I've spent the past few days contemplating my rating for this one, and although I had some personal niggles relating to the characters promiscuous attitudes towards sex, I've decided that those are my own personal hang-ups, and a book that so easily entertained me from start to finish, providing low angst drama, hot sexy times, and sweet lovey-dovey moments, deserves some positive recognition from my end.

Hayden and Cody are the focus couple in this one, having both been introduced (but never having met until now) as Gary and Travis' best friends, respectively, in Faking It.

Hayden's fresh out of a three year relationship with a douche-nozzle and he needs a new place to live, pronto. Enter, life-loving tattoo artist Cody. Having personally experienced what it's like to fall on hard times and be fortunate enough to have some generous stranger open their home to him, Cody decides to give back and take Hayden on as a roommate. The two hit it off immediately, quickly forming an effortless friendship and satisfying home routine that brings them closer every day. And if they occasionally engage in some meaningless sexual escapades together, well, no one can blame the two young, hot, single men from having fun when the opportunity presents itself (over and over and over again).

Needless to say, the whole no-strings attached, friends-with-benefits situation only lasts so long with the guys, who, refreshingly, own up to their developing feelings as they occurred. There was no denial here, which was so great and such a change of pace for this kind of story. Instead, as soon as Cody recognises his growing crush on Hayden he basically just says as much and the two share an honest conversation, admitting to wanting to see where things would take them without placing any unrealistic demands on each other so soon in their new friendship/relationship. I enjoyed this aspect of the story greatly, although I could have done without all the insistence, by Cody, that Hayden keep dating around to see what else is out there after having so soon gotten out of a long-term relationship. Thankfully, that nonsense is short-lived and neither is with any other characters from the moment they first acknowledge their growing feelings.

Overall, this was a fun and sexy addition to the Metropolis series and I CAN NOT WAIT to read about sassy, greedy bottom Derek, to see how he finds his forever love.

Eh, this wasn't all that bad, however, it wasn't great either. It was a nice read about Hayden ‘boo’ (what's his last name?) (30? Soon to be 30?) and Cody ‘C’ Dean (what's his last name?) (28) becoming close friends and realizing that the chemistry they have is pretty rare. I love books about strong friendships turning into more, so it was a alright read. Overall, I had expected more - like a little action or something - but it is what it is, and I need to find something else to read now. God I hate trying to find new books to read :/
“You have such a sexy ass, Cody. It’s been killing me not to take it. We’ve been playing with fire, you and me.”
“Let’s go up in flames,”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Series (Standalone?), Book Two.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Hayden ‘boo’.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Unsure.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - No.

I love the writing partnership of Riley Hart and Devon McCormack. Their writing styles mesh perfectly, mixing humour, sexy times and sweet love stories.
This is the second book in the Metropolis series and even though it can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading them in order. Knowing all the characters back stories makes for a better read and a full understanding of the relationships and their history as friends.
Cody and Hayden's chemistry is off the charts and their journey to a HEA will keep you riveted until the final page.
Working It is a light, funny, sweet and sexy story. A fun read that will leave you highly satisfied and with a smile on your face.

Soooo much better than the first one in the series! I loved these two.
They were perfect for each other... this weird mix of super sweet and dirty that made me sigh... I liked how they talked their minds and didn't spend half the book with internal conflicts that were only in their minds.

And the sex was hawt... there is a threesome with a hungry little sailor as the meat of that sandwich that got me fanning myself. And did I mention Cody's Prince Albert???

Great secondary characters as well. I really liked Dom and Hayden's mom. The Metropolis family keeps on growing and I cannot wait for crazy twink Derek's turn.

While I liked all the other books in the series, this one isn't working for me. I've had trouble liking Hayden from the moment he got introduced in the first book. I feel like he has no real personality. He can be shy, he can be dominant, he can be a doormat, he can be forceful. He was just so all over the place.

Well, one miss in this series isn't so bad.

I have mixed feelings about this book, I read it way faster than the first one so that gives it more points but at the same time this one had a lot of little things that bothered me.

It pains me so much to not enjoy these books because the first Hart/McCormack colab was so good, I loved that book but I'm just not connecting with this new series.

I really liked this one!

I don't know. I guess because I really like low angst, fluffy stories. I thought this was better than Faking It. It's not over the top, in your face and has less unnecessary scenes.

I'm actually skeptical about Hayden and Cody at first. My first thought was: what they have in common? I also thought that they met conveniently. But it worked for me. I think after the first book, I appreciated the easiness of Hayden and Cody as characters and together.

I also liked the secondary characters in this. Hayden's mom and Doc (even their hookups and acquaintances like Finn, Sebastian and Tiny) were great additions. I liked reading about the other characters from Book 1 as well.

There's not much I dislike in this. Well if I have to nitpick: I wished Cody reached out to his family? Or that it wasn't like the MCs being together all the time?

I really enjoyed this one. I heard Book 3 is great, so here I come...

My least favorite of the series so far but it is still a good read and a must read if you are enjoying the series!

Hayden and Cody fall in deep like and then love. They both have interesting backstories which I don't want to spoil for you.

Cody is really well defined as person.

Hayden has a lot of traits like backing, loving math, and having a bad break up but a lot of this seems surface level and he never feels as developed as a character.

I wanted him to be way more nerdy than he is or at least that to come out more.

The circle of friends aspect remains great. There are some sexual escapades that might make you google to see that is possible but overall it is a sweet romance.

“The world’s not always a pretty place, but sometimes you find what you’re looking for in the midst of all the shit.”

In between all the advanced reading copies I get, I like to take some time and just read what I want. That's exactly what I did with Working It and it felt so freeing. I love that feeling. It's not everyday you feel it.

Hayden and Cody become roommates when Hayden brakes up with his boyfriend and needs a place to stay. They quickly form a friendship and things escalate from there. Their chemistry is great, I loved the bond that they had and their banter was absolutely one of a kind. One of the best things about reading M/M is that they're not afraid to hold back. They say what's on their mind and are not that sensitive most of the time.

His eyes widen in shock, and yeah, I feel it too. The little buzz of connection, zapping between us.

The secondary characters were really well written. They were just as developed as the MC and I say this a lot but that really does make all the difference in a story. Well written story line with matured characters.

Working It is a lot about going for your dreams, sticking to it and finding a family through your friends. It was a cute, smiley, good feeling book that I think a lot of people who like M/M will enjoy! I'll leave you with this quote:

“Sometimes you gotta fight for what you want, and not just let things go and see what happens.”

Like the first installment in the series, I really enjoyed this book.

It wasn't as emotional as the first but I still enjoyed reading about the progression of Cody and Hayden's friendship into something more.Cody was just something special. I believe everyone needs a Cody (i.e. someone who will care for you regardless of what life throws). It didn't hurt that he was hot as hell and knew how to work it in the bedroom as well. *wink wink*

Hayden was okay I guess. I just didn't get his hang ups with his ex which irked me to no end.. Though he got better as the story progressed, that was one niggle that stayed with me .

The niggle wasn't enough to sour the book for me though.I liked the writing , the secondary characters and the pacing of the book. It all came together pretty well.

I really really hope the next book is about Derek!!! He deserves an HEA.

I liked this a lot better than the first one.

When Hayden's boyfriend breaks up with him and kicks him out, he knows he can't stay with his mother indefinitely, so Gary from book one, hooks him up with Travis' best friend and neighbor.

They are attracted from the start (they'd once tried a threesome with the ex which didn't work out), but Cody doesn't want to be a rebound and ruin any potential of a true friendship or future relationship. So, they give each other handies and the occasional bj, to release stress, all the while Cody is pushing him to date and have fun.

Hayden quickly tires of this and realized he'd rather spend time with his roommate than out at the club looking for tricks. They agree to date (while still seeing other people), but that too doesn't last long.

There is a brief separation when Hayden moves to Chicago for a job, but the moment Cody needs him, he comes running back, and they find a way to make things work.

I just really enjoyed watching them go from roommates with benefits to best friends and lovers. They were a good couple who generally supported and wanted the best for each other.

This story was a pleasure to read. Light romance, with super well-developed characters - MCs and returning secondaries from the first story.

I loved Cody and his "adoptive" father, Doc. And Hayden and his mom. And then Travis, Gary and Derek. There was really nothing about this story I didn't love.

Cody and Hayden deserved a beautiful romance and I loved how the authors put it together.

Onward to book three. I can't wait to see Derek get his chance at happiness.

O kurczaki!

This was a no angst, fairly fluffy read. Even though Hayden and Cody both have had difficult pasts, their outlooks on life are pretty sunny. During the whole book, they spend time going with the flow and not taking things too seriously.
I found their interactions with each other refreshing. Both of them are pretty open and honest with their expectations and needs. Cody is such a supportive person, anyone would be happy to have him in their corner. Most of the book is spent with Hayden and Cody developing a friendship with benefits. As Hayden gets his footing after leaving a long term relationship and Cody realizes that having someone to share his space and time with is a pleasant change, their friendship with benefits starts to develop feelings as well.
These two guys are pretty different. Cody is an artist (of the tattoo variety) and has never been in a relationship of any kind. He seems to have one friend, Travis. Hayden has just exited a 3 year relationship and is a math wiz, though he has recently rekindled his friendship with Gary and Derek, they are a strong set. Their differences balance out and they mesh so well. I am glad they found each other.
The only issue I had was the recurrence of Lance. He was a dickhead and I could have used less of him.
The love for their friends and family is apparent and visible. Their support network is solid.
I loved Doc and Cody's relationship with him.
Oy, and the heat factor, whew! Plus piercings. That is always a score. There is a scene with Finn that I have never read in a book before. Wow. This may be my first M/M/M scene, so maybe this is the norm? Someone let me know! (no worries, there is no cheating and the threesome scene is done well).
I can't wait to read Derek's book. His story is one I would like to know. Did we meet his match at the end of this story? Maybe. Hopefully. We only glimpsed the guy, but he had tattoos so I want to know more.

Smoking hot return to Metropolis

Hot, hot, hot, this book is explosive. In Working It Devon and Riley take the reader back to their skyscraper of ridiculously hot men with a beautifully paced story of friends with benefits turning into something much stronger.

I loved book one but this one is even better as I found Hayden and Cody's relationship a bit less stressy and a lot more of a gentle slide into romance - with the added benefit of some incendiary sexy times. There's a lot of humour in this one too, the guys laugh a lot together and there's not as much angsty or dramatic moments.

Hayden was a nicely constructed character, I liked that he wasn't sure where his life was going and how he was trying to find a new one after breaking up with his ex.
Cody also could have been a one note character, fixated on his pained upbringing, but instead the authors made him an optimistic and encouraging friend to Hayden.

I loved reading their relationship grow slowly as they figured out that the friends with benefits option of their relationship wasn't enough anymore. Oh and the scene with Finn, make sure you've got a) a fan and b) a towel to hand when reading that one. Methinks that sailor boy needs his own story. It's not easy to write something generally considered "porny" without making it porn but in the hands of these two authors it felt perfectly placed and constructed within the narrative.

The epilogue was all ends up sweet as well. Now we wait for Derek's story and I'm intrigued as to see how Devon and Riley handle him and stop him from becoming too full on annoying.

Oh, and that cover, where can I get one please?! That's pretty much my dream guy.

It was ok. Truth is I expected a story about a shy, geeky guy and I got one for two horny all the time, not shy at all guys. I probably sound like Hayden's asshole ex, but I had an image in my mind for Hayden based on the first book, and he turned out to be someone completely different here and I don't deal well with surprises. Also, all this 'winking' got me mad; Cody must have finished every single conversation in this book with a wink!

As I was listening to the audiobook, it hit me.

The guys' friendship seemed so familiar to me, and as I was listening to Derek make yet another sex joke it hit me. He's Samantha. This is Sex and the City with workouts instead of brunch and way fewer shoes. They just sit around and dish about their careers and their love/sex lives.

Take that how you will.

I didn't like this one as much as the others. I did like the lack of angst, but man were they gooey. Gooey, sticky, "You're amazing", "No, you're amazing" "Your dick's amazing." "No, your dick's amazing." Christ. We get it. You're both amazing and have fabulously big dicks. Get on with it.

I also didn't like this audiobook as much. It was still well done, but the narrator doesn't give any of the guys in the series a prominent southern accent, and for whatever reason, that really stood out to me in this book. The books take place in Atlanta, and both these guys were born and raised in Georgia. There should be some accents happening, here, and instead Cody sounds a little like a surfer and Hayden I can't place, so probably midwesternish. I have some family from Georgia, and I actually really enjoy the accent. It's not a heavy southern drawl, and I would have liked to hear it for some of the guys. Bummer.

Even though I didn't like it as much as the others, it was still a solid book, so I'm not mad at it. It just suffers by the comparison to the other two books in the series, which worked better for me for whatever reason.

This book is Cody and Hayden's story, and they were so sweet together! And hot, can't forget that, too!

I don't think this book had quite the spark that the first one had, I don't know if I just didn't buy into their relationship as much as I did with Travis and Gary, but it was still fun reading about them. Cody and Hayden also had a particularly hot threesome with Finn, too. I also really enjoyed the sense of family in this story, that it's what you make it, not necessarily what family you are born into.

Can't wait to start Derek's story!

4/5 for sexy Clark Kent and his hot as hell free spirited roomie.

Going into this book, I knew that Hayden was likely to be one of the MC's for either this book or the next book in the series, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Cody's name in that blurb. And I was insanely excited that his job involved tattooing (since that is one of my favorite things). Despite what he showed on the outside, Cody was also a really mushy and soft marshmallow. There were parts of himself that he actively worked to keep hidden, even from the people closest to him, but he had no problems with showing them to Hayden.

What started as a no-strings attached sexy and fun exchange of mutual orgasms quickly sprouted feelings and carried both of these boys into uncharted territory. Hayden was afraid to get his heart broken again and Cody just wasn't looking for all of the commitment that came with a full-blown relationship, but he also knew he'd never run from it. Cody was the kind of guy that just sort of let things happen when they were going to happen and he'd deal with it or learn how to deal with it when it came. I really liked that about him.

And the relationship between these two was fast and intense. Compared to Travis and Gary, these two work fast. Cody was no-bullshit about his feelings and just told Hayden how he felt the minute he felt it. And I think that's really what Hayden needed. Cody made him laugh and smile but he was also straight with him when he needed to be serious, which made it easier for Hayden to trust that Cody wasn't going to hurt him. This book gave me a lot of feelings.

The only thing that drove me INSANE about this book was the language used to describe Cody's job. Cody's a tattoo artist, and for some reason he kept throwing around words like "tattoo gun" and "tat." This was extremely irritating because as someone who is pretty heavily tattooed and frequents tattoo shops, I know that tattoo artists don't use these terms. Like, not at all. It's actually a pretty quick way to spot someone who has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. And just a little bit of research or searching out a beta reader who has some experience would have been enough to point out those mistakes. Unfortunately, Hart and McCormack didn't do that. Word to the wise: never ever EVER call a tattoo machine a gun. Don't do it. Just. Don't. Do. It.

My pet peeves aside, though, this was actually a pretty good book. Even though I wanted to cringe every single time Cody or Doc said "tat," these two were incredibly hot together and I loved the romance that they shared. The lack of research I mentioned above is the only reason this is a 4 star instead of a 5 star review. This whole series comes recommended from me, but you should read them in order otherwise you'll probably be seriously confused.

This might be the most salacious book I have ever read *fans-self* *dies from blushing* but it was a d*mn good story. All the steamy, dreamy stuff aside, the plot had me feeling all the feels. I was really intrigued by Cody after we meet him in Faking It so I was really excited to hear his story. Hayden was kind of a wild card character for me but after learning more about him, these two are just perfect for each other.

Hayden and Lance break up, thank the Lord because Lance is a piece of garbage that needs to be disposed of. Hayden finds himself a roommate and so much more in Cody. They have an awkward past encounter but more than that, they have undeniable chemistry. Seriously, as these two dance around each other for the first half of the book, the sexual tension is tangible. But more so than that, is they form a friendship first. They learn about each other and slowly, blindly begin falling for each other. *cue the swoon* They have so many tender moments and slowly begin to share their secrets with each other.

Each characters background was rough and watching them open up tore apart my heart. And there was honestly a moment where I had to read through the feels because it hit me hard but these two just make so much sense together and like the first book, the relationship is realistically paced. It is just so flawless how they tumble from roomies, to play buddies, to lovers. A seamless flow that carries into the plot and makes for a truly captivating read.

My heart goes out to sweet, little Derek as he has to watch both of his best friends fall in love but sit out from the sidelines, I am kind of looking forward to seeing what kind of man will be able to tame him. Gary and Travis are back, being all sorts of sweet and sexy and this book really solidifies that this rag-tag team is more than friends, they are family. A family that I will gladly join! *whispers please adopt me*

Working It was book 2 in the Metropolis series. While I enjoyed book 1, I thought book 2 was even better. Hayden and Cody were great together, I loved their honesty and their chemistry was hot. Yes this one has the jackass ex boyfriend like book 1 but I didn't care it was still a fun read that had me smiling for most of the story. I can't wait for Derek's book. He is so naughty I look forward to the guy who will tame him.
