Emotional Intelligence: Why It Is More Important Than IQ and How You Can Improve Yours

Rate this book
Most people are slaves - or at least servants - to their emotions, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the emotions are always big and overpowering. Even people who show no emotion are not necessarily in charge of that part of themselves. Being able to identify and control emotions, and understanding the emotions of others, are all signs of an emotionally-intelligent person.

In the last few decades, emotional intelligence has come to be recognized as being just as important as someone’s IQ when it comes to predicting success in a career and in relationships. Someone with high EQ (“emotional-intelligence quotient”) is more likely to be healthy and happy than someone who is puzzled by their own emotions and those of others. This book will go over why this is, and give you a concrete action plan for increasing your EQ and reaping the rewards of emotional intelligence in business, relationships, and in virtually every aspect of life! Using specific tips, you can learn how to significantly and permanently increase your emotional intelligence. There’s a dark side to EQ however that you need to be aware of, and that will also will be explored in this book so you can reap the rewards of a high EQ without suffering from the pitfalls.

Emotions are like horses. When they are wild, they are dangerous and can lead you right off a cliff. When they are tamed however, they can carry you to great things and satisfaction in life. Social and work situations will be easier to navigate, your relationships will be closer and less confusing, and your state of mind will be more peaceful. The goal of this book is to give you insight into how the emotional brain works and how to grip the reins. When you are the leader and not the follower of your emotions, you’ll be amazed at the changes in your life.

Poorly written. Not edited or properly formatted. A decent overview of tooics related to EQ, but I could only recommend thus to someone with a very low EQ. Persons who have experience with managing and studying emotions should instead look to better books on mindfulness, relationships, and emotion.

I had to stop at page 28. I appreciate that the author made the attempt, but I find this book so poorly written, improperly sourced and therfore frustrating to read. I picked this up thinking I would get clinically and psychologically sound information, but...I was too unable to continue because of how poorly I feel it is written.

Perhaps, the best part of the book was the cover.
Repetitive, not very deep, and full of typographical errors.

Repetitive and it doesn't specifically advise you on how to hone in on your emotions just rather, "it takes practice." The author failed to explain how "practice". I think I learned more about emotional connection in the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
