Lucas embarks on a cross-country journey for what's supposed to be a simple vaccine delivery mission, but which quickly devolves into a battle to survive when he and his team become embroiled in a conspiracy so large it will change the fate of America.
Cannot express just how much I have been enjoying this clever and imaginative apocalyptic series. Currently, there are 8 books published in the 'Day After Never' series, however, (and unfortunately) Book #6 is the last one available at this time on audible. Onto episode #6....
I always enjoy the ride for each of the Day After Never books, but I especially enjoyed this one because Lucas leaves behind Sierra (a female character I just can't learn to like) and takes instead the more senior woman, Ruby—whom I so enjoy seeing in the stories—as part of his group when they embark upon a mission of mercy with the vaccine. The usual action and adventure I've come to expect from Mr. Blake and lots of survival against all odds that I count on. You'll want to go ahead and purchase Perdition (book 6) since Insurrection leaves you with a bit of a cliffhanger and picks up again in the next book. Saddle up!
It’s not that I thought this was bad. It’s well written as usual. The story has gotten too repetitive, though, and I just found myself bored while reading it.
This is where I say bye to other Lucas. Maybe I’ll come back in the future. But probably not.
Lucas and a team from Shangri La head out to Washington state to deliver vaccine to a like-minded group for reproduction and distribution. As with everything in this post-apocalyptic world the journey is fraught with danger. There are those that would have the vaccine to give only to a chosen few. The New World Order has their fingers in every pie.
Blake’s fifth novel in The Day After Never series, Insurrection, takes us away from the main group at Shangri La and presents us with new characters and new challenges. Lucas remains every vigilant and uncovers more nefarious plans than he had anticipated.
A very gritty tale that is beginning to bring bigger pieces of the puzzle to light. I look forward to the next installment.
Spoiler Alert: Sierra has Lucas wrapped around her fingers. As a former Texas Ranger. It surprises me that he goes out on a limb for her all the time. Which, is detrimental to his health. On another note, the Illuminati and the Chinese are up to some nefarious stuff. Doesn’t surprise me in post apocalyptic times that China is a cesspool from the the nuclear and chemical plants. Take head western seaboard. This could happen to you!
All in all I love this life like series as it shows what lowlifes we can be and is a reminder we are but a major disaster away from being primitive. Good series and moving on to the next book!
The storyline is getting pretty gory and violent. If I didn’t get invested in the main characters in the first two books I probably wouldn’t be reading anymore of the series. The whole Illuminati storyline is getting a little crazy but if you are into that sort of thing you’ll enjoy these books. I do like the characters and their background storylines. They are the reason I’ve kept on reading.
Lucas takes off on a vaccine delivery trip to Oregon with Ruby and four others. It's a dangerous journey across the country, and when the survivors arrive in Oregon they find that their enemy is there, hidden amongst the survivors. There are also new players on the field, the Chinese are arriving, and new dynamics, as the village of Astoria, Oregon keeps outsiders out of the city itself, creating a slum full of discontent victims and marauders on their gates. It's an exciting fast paced chapter in what is to my mind Blake's best series. It's a post apocalyptic western, with gritty situations, likeable leads, ample villains, and a dangerous landscape. Highly recommended. A satisfying new beginning for Lucas after the (relative) disappointment of Episode 4 of the series.
Enjoyed the story. Would like to see some consistency around how Lucas keeps on having enough rounds available to him. Cartridges weigh a bit and the way he shoots, he must have a small trailer dragging behind him. By this stage of the apocalypse, they must be starting to run out. Just saying.
This story is so on point. Having lived off grid in Montana and then returning to civilization to see how little people care for each other and how no one in a city seems to have a clue about how to live self sufficient this story could be the real reality we are looking at if something happens to end the world as we know it.
While trying to help people in Astoria with a vaccin for the new disease Lucas soon finds himself entangled in a conspiracy that might end up having all the towns people killed. Great read in this series, looking forward to read more
This book was better than the third. Lucas is in for a wild ride in this action packed thriller. I found this book very entertaining and fasted paced. I very much enjoyed it. It was a nice pick up from the previous book
Great read. I love reading apocalyptic fiction. Keeping in mind it's fiction right up to the point it isn't. Lol But I can't wait to see what happens with Lucas in the next one. Great Job
This is a long series, and I don’t know if I will make it through all of them. I am going to start the next one and see if it grabs me better than this one did. If not I will stop on this series and read something else.
Nothing turned out as planned and Lucas and Ruby have to run for their lives from a new threat bearing down on them for the Pacific! Got to get the next book in the series to see what happens next!
In a Post Apocalypse series I desire a strong, capable MC, interesting supporting cast, a well developed storyline and action, action, action! A little romance doesn't hurt. This series checks all the boxes. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Each book builds on the last and the tension grows. It bets a little hard to read about all the killing, but I think it's probably realistic considering the situation.
It's getting a bit out there, but i can't give it up now. I have to find it what happens. I'm enjoying the story and I'm a sucker for everything post apocalyptic.
This book deals with distributing the vaccine and the resulting consequences of a town run by a council of differing agendas. Throw into that mix a disgruntled tent city outside the town walls a mole planted by the illuminati and some chinese, working inside the town to remove any chance of defending itself and you have a story full of twists and turns to keep you reading until the last page.
