Mindless Trilogy #1

Sleep, Think, Die

Rate this book
Picture this: you’re sitting in a bar minding your own business, having a quiet drink or two, when trouble steps in off the street. A shambling wreck stumbles over the threshold, bloodied clothes torn, muttering incoherently. Just another idiot who doesn’t know when enough is too much. You raise your glass, take another slug. It’s okay, security can handle it.

But then over by the juke box a woman screams, a man swears loudly. You look up to see the barman drop the pint he’s pouring and back off, pale and shivering. Maybe you should turn around and take a closer look…

Then the world goes crazy. Before you know it, you’re shoulder to shoulder with security, fighting a wave of undead. Someone throws you a cue – a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘killer pool.’ When it’s over, there’s only four of you left; you, two hard men and the terrified girl you find hiding beneath the corpse of her boyfriend.

So begins the story of a new kind of world; where the dead are far more ambulant than they should be, and the living must walk amongst them, fighting to survive.

Really enjoyed this story and the characters. I'm a big fan of the genre and like the author's handling of the inevitable gory scenes. There are simple descriptions without going overboard. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

This book was more exciting and more fun to read than I thought it would be. I don't read tooo many zombie types books but the ones I do read are ok. This one was better than ok. I enjoyed the names of the characters some unique ones! I think this book had a great idea about zombies too they had "Thinkers" in this book that was a new twist for me. Great book a few small error in editing but not bad at all! * I received this book from the author---this is my honest review*

Another great book by S P Oldham and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have watched many a Zombie movie, but I cannot recall that I have ever read a Zombie story before. If all Zombie books are as good as 'Sleep, Think, Die', then I will be wanting to read more. I am not going to spoil one's enjoyment by writing about the story, but I do recommend this book.

I would like to thank the author for sending me a free copy and this was my honest review.

Sleep,Think, Die by S P Oldham

Genre: Horror

About the book: The dead are beginning to overrun the living. They walk side by side. Is the world over? Can things be saved?

Review: I’ve read a few of the author’s other works but they were shorter. However, I think I enjoyed this one more because it was longer while at the same time still being to the point without all the unnecessary filler. I would definitely recommend this to those who like supernatural.

Nice to see a UK author (vocabulary gives you away S.P.) having a go at the genre.
Believable and likeable characters keep you interested.
The plot is a little linear, but still thoroughly enjoyable.
The book might have benefited from being professionally edited, or proof read, but I know how that can eat into an Indie author's income.
All in all, worth a read for all zombie fans.
Now I need to find time to read book two.

I thought this book was really good, it started off slightly different to some of the zombie books I’ve read, but I find it interesting how different authors tell the same kind of story in such a different way. This is definitely worth a read for anyone interested in zom poc stories. I can’t wait to see how the characters develop, looking forward t9 reading next instalment.

I was given this book in exchange for a honest review.....so here it goes.

This is an absolute brilliant book. I loved it~from the beginning it kept me on the edge of my seat. Don’t take anything for granted in this storyline~nothing or should I say no one is as they seem.

I hope there is a sequel~as there is room for that to happen.

Give this book a try~you won’t be disappointed!

What a book

I found S.P. Oldham through a fb group. I am so glad I did. The story starts with an adrenalin rush and pretty much ends with one. I can't wait to read the next one!

In a genre that is overflowing with books, it's often hard to find one that is unique. In "Sleep, Think, Die", I think that I have found the beginning of a unique entry.

At the start of the book, Carson is fighting for his life against an atypical zombie, one that appears to be able to think. He is rescued by a strange quartet made up of two former bouncers, a common man and a young woman who appears to be afraid of her own shadow.

Carson has dubbed these more intelligent zombies "Thinkers", which seems to be an appropriate moniker since they appear to reason, hunt, and think about their next move.

There is plenty of action and gore, but not so much that it becomes a total gross-out. The premise of how this particular zompoc might have started is fairly unique (at least IMHO) and added a lot to the story. The characters became more fully developed as the story progressed and I found myself shedding a few tears along the way as some of them lost their battle against the zombies.

I look forward to continuing this series and think that it will become one of my favorites.

Well written and easy to read

I read a lot of zombie and post-apocalyptic fiction and they can very easily become either extremely gruesome or too detail heavy. However, this new book by SP Oldham is very well written and sits nicely in the middle of the road making this a very enjoyable and easy read. I would find myself looking forward to jumping back into the action with the characters and wondering what would happen next which is always a sign of a great book. Set in the UK so is a bit more relatable for us UK readers. A unique twist on the zombie genre with intelligent zombies that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I'm really looking forward to the sequel. Well done to the author!

I enjoyed this book. I read it in one sitting today, and I'm going to read the next book because I'm curious where the story will go. This wasn't your typical zombie story. I won't give away how it was different, but just be prepared that it's not your normal zombie experience. I liked the characters for the most part, although I don't know that I felt connected to any of them. I think because it focused more on the group and not a main protagonist it left me feeling like they were less relatable. Nonetheless, it was well-written, and while there were quite a few grammatical errors in the copy that I read, they weren't common enough to make reading difficult. I think if you like most zombie books, you'll enjoy this one.

Interesting read and for a longer story it goes by quickly. I am not really a zombie fan, but the author has taken your normal tale of the undead and added a twist. When Zombies invade it seems the living being smarter would have the advantage, but what if that wasn't quite the scenario. What if the undead still carried a bit of intelligence in those brains thought empty? People, like Lavender, Bumper, Gasher and Carson are going to find out.The author has written an action packed story but this novel is more than that. This novel will make you wonder what would you do and maybe be a help when those zombies enter your world.

Book One

Ii bought the trilogy because I hate the thought of starting a series and then being somewhere in my travels that I can't download the 2nd or 3rd book when I want to read it.
Book one was an interesting take on the cause of the Zombies roaming the woods. Good enough to make me go ahead and read book 2. Hoping that it doesn't let me down and become a Harlequin Zombie Romantic piece.
Wait for that review and we shall tell you if I will read Book 3 or if I wasted my money

A zombie apocalypse adventure

Zombie apocalypse adventure. An interesting cast of characters who fight to survive their way through a zombie apocalypse. Follow through as a encounter zombies if you bad humans and unfortunately a few zombies who actually can still think with some ingenuity.
By the way just in case you’re wondering these are not slow stumbling zombies but they actually chase you. So beware.

I like it! There is always something new to explore in this genre. This book gives us more to think about and fear. Here is a group of survivors and names to think about. I won’t give the names away, but travel mates that are varied and interesting. There are secrets galore, action, and gore. You gotta read this. And continue…

One of the best zombie books I’ve read. Set in a believable world where zombies are created from an experiment to create a longer life serum. Intelligent people become Thinkers, the others become run of the mill undead. A group of people come together to try to survive.

Pretty good zombie book. There were quite a few errors which drove me a little crazy. Might be because I got a file from author. This was a little different from your average zombie book. There were smart zombies, called Thinkers. I liked the main character Carson, I even ended up liking Lavender.

A rather good book that is different from other zombie stories.

Well written and easy to follow. There had to be a solid reason that started the outbreak and this one was different from most others. I would recommend this book to my friends.

Impressive opener!

I thoroughly enjoyed this start to Sue’s trilogy. The characters she introduces us to are caught up in events they have yet to figure out. And the journey to the answers is harrowing! I heartily recommend adding Sleep, Think, Die to your library !

Sleep, Think, Die felt like a different zombie book than I usually read. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was that was different, but it definitely had a different feel to it. In some ways, it felt a little darker, I would say. I can’t actually think of anything bad to say about this book as it kept my attention, provided realistic levels of gore, had unique elements, and plenty of action. Pretty much everything I need it a good zombie book aside from humor.

In some zombie books, the reader is given just a small sense of hope while reading. Like maybe things will work out for these characters. But in Sleep, Think, Die, I don’t think I had that feeling. One of the very first things that happens is that you see some of the zombies evolving. And we all know zombies that evolve is never a good thing. It makes them better hunters, and that’s the last thing you want when you are their prey. The idea of zombies who can think is pretty terrifying if you ask me.

This book has tons of action. Which, if you think about it, makes sense. I doubt there would be much downtime during the zombie apocalypse. I enjoyed the level of gore as well. Some authors either go way overboard to making it seem like they’re just trying to gross you out or don’t do enough. Neither of those seems realistic if this story were actually non-fiction, so I think the author did a good job of finding that realistic balance while not overdoing it.

For a good portion of the book, the reader is left wondering what is up with the group of people the main character has joined up with. I couldn’t quite figure out if they were good or bad. I thought the name situation was a good idea. I liked that I wasn’t able to figure it out because that gave me something else to think about as I was reading.

Another thing I liked was that at some point, we find out what kick started this whole mess. Very few zombie books give that info, and while I can appreciate keeping the reader guessing, after a while it starts to feel like the author just didn’t know or hadn’t come up with something that would work which felt unique enough.

Overall, I really liked this book and look forward to reading the next in the series. I’m really interested in seeing what else this author has to offer.
